I find it too repetitive to be honest.

I have tried to like Dora the Explorer, as I am all for educational shows. For example Tots TV, Sesame Street and Rosie and Jim were educational and all three of them I loved as a kid because they were also a lot of fun. As an 18 year old girl, I kept in consideration that this was a kids show, but sorry I don t like it. The first problem and my major problem with Dora the Explorer is that it is too repetitive. The scripting, the music, the story lines. they felt the same in every episode. Another problem is that I for one don t find it educational, there was an episode when Dora I think counted to ten in Spanish. Kids will definitely find that educational, but for someone who studied Spanish for two years, I couldn t help rolling my eyes at something I already knew. Then the story lines are unoriginal for the most part, the music is forgettable(to me that is though I do appreciate that they were keeping it simple for kids to remember, but I personally felt they went overboard with the simplicity), the characters are thin, the writing is shallow and for me the voice acting was unexceptional. On a plus, the animation was nice to look at, simple but colourful and bright. Overall, sorry but I don t like it, kids will love it but being older it doesn t appeal to me. 1/10 for the animation. Uncovering the man, uncovering the truth.

On January 28th 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke up 73 seconds after the twenty-fifth Space Shuttle launch, killing all seven of its crew members. The disaster was, at the time, the most catastrophic loss in NASA history and is still remembered as one of the most disastrous and heartbreaking days in human space exploration. Following the tragedy a Commission was set up to get to the bottom of the disaster and uncover the cause of shuttle failure. On the Commission was perhaps the most famous of the twentieth century, Richard Feynman.

The Challenger (formerly titled Feynman and the Challenger) is a made for TV movie which first aired on the BBC on March 18th 2013. The film focuses on the role Richard Feynman (William Hurt) played in the Commission and the lengths that he went to; to prove what was really behind the Shuttle s failure that January morning. The film intersperses real footage, including that of the actual event with dramatisations of Feynman s quest for answers which are taken from Feynman s autobiographical book What Do You Care What Other People Think? The movie is well researched and generally very well made and features a terrific central performance and compelling story.

I was born just under a month after the Challenger disaster but it was a part of my childhood. My parents had a huge poster on the stairs of one of the houses I grew up in of the crew and the Shuttle which used to intrigue and haunt me. As I got older I became very interested in Space exploration and in my twenties threw off the horrors of High School Physics lessons to become interested in physics. I am to physics what a football fan is to football. I m fascinated by it and get engrossed in small details but put me on the field and I d lose the ball faster than the speed of light. I am an enthusiastic amateur. All of the above is a very long and drawn out way of saying that the plot of The Challenger is of great interest to me. Its principle character Richard Feynman is a man who I have some but not much knowledge of and most of my knowledge comes from the odd popular science book, YouTube clips and occasional popular science lecture delivered by the likes of Prof. Brian Cox, Simon Singh and Ben Goldacre as well as the comedy of Robin Ince. I was fascinated then to learn more.

The film introduced me to a Feynman I wasn t expecting to meet. The Feynman I ve seen footage of was controlled and firm and had a distinguishable but refined Queens accent. William Hurt s Feynman is much more Californian . His accent is slightly different and his portrayal is more agitated and messy. I don t mean any of this in a bad way though and think it matches the state that the man was in both mentally and physically. Although slightly dishevelled, Hurt has more than a passing resemblance to the scientist he is portraying. What is obvious from the film is that the budget doesn t match that of an average theatrical film. There are corners cut in various places which sometimes detracts slightly from the movie as a whole but luckily the story is strong enough that it rarely gets in the way.

The plot is deeply fascinating and encompasses physics, ethics, finance and politics. All four combine in a tense and agitated melting pot which forms the Commission and it soon becomes apparent that Feynman is coming at the case from a different angle to the majority of the Commissioners. Early on he is frustrated by a lack of pace in the meetings and then he is stifled by the rigours step by step process. Feynman takes it upon himself to dig around and visits various NASA facilities in which he is viewed with suspicion by scientists and technicians scared to be held accountable. This sets up more conflict in the Commission and Feynman finds himself short of allies. He does however find a friend in Air force General Kutyna (Bruce Greenwood) who, like the audience by now, is sympathetic to the Physicist s cause. What follows is a slow unravelling of the facts which without Feynman may never have come to light.

The film treads a thin line between telling the truth and attacking the likes of NASA and Solid Rocket manufacturer Morton Thiokol much as Feynman did himself. Although my limited knowledge gave me some insight into the disaster and subsequent findings I was fascinated to be taken on the journey towards the discovery and felt that the film blended this with Feynman s health issues very well. It was clear from the outset that this was about Challenger first and his health second, something which again mirrors Feynman himself. Even the title of the movie can refer to the craft and the man. Occasionally I found myself questioning cover-ups and discoveries which seemed a little too dramatic and possibly exaggerated but my knowledge doesn t extend far enough to know what was real and what was invented. It is my belief and hope though that the vast majority of what I saw on screen was real. The actual footage certainly was and despite having seen it numerous times, it s still heartbreakingly sad.

Overall The Challenger manages to get to the heart of the disaster and uncovers a man who deserves to be better known than he is. William Hurt is superb and the plot is fascinating in every detail. I had a few problems with realism and dramatic licence and the budget caused some issues but overall I d recommend the movie to anyone with a passing interest in NASA, the disaster, Richard Feynman or just good detective thrillers. Like most good true stories it made me want to learn more for myself which on its own proves the movie was a success.

Top 10 Guidelines for Homepage Usability

Summary: A company s homepage is its face to the world and the starting point for most user visits. Improving your homepage multiplies the entire website s business value, so following key guidelines for homepage usability is well worth the investment.

Homepages are the most valuable real estate in the world. Each year, companies and individuals funnel millions of dollars through a space that’s not even a square foot in size. For good reason. A homepage’s impact on a company’s bottom line is far greater than simple measures of e-commerce revenues: The homepage is your company’s face to the world. Increasingly, potential customers will look at your company’s online presence before doing business with you — regardless of whether they plan to close the actual sale online. (Update: our studies of B2B usability found that this is the predominant behavior of business users.)

The homepage is the most important page on most websites. and gets more page views than any other page. Of course, users don’t always enter a website from the homepage. A website is like a house in which every window is also a door: People can follow links from search engines and other websites that reach deep inside your site. However, one of the first things these users do after arriving at a new site is go to the homepage. Deep linking is very useful, but it doesn’t give users the site overview a homepage offers — if the homepage design follows strong usability guidelines, that is.

Following are ten things you can do to increase the usability of your homepage and thus enhance your website’s business value.

Make the Site’s Purpose Clear: Explain Who You Are and What You Do

1. Include a one-sentence tagline

Start the page with a tagline that summarizes what the site or company does, especially if you’re new or less than famous. Even well-known companies presumably hope to attract new customers and should tell first-time visitors about the site’s purpose. It is especially important to have a good tagline if your company’s general marketing slogan is bland and fails to tell users what they’ll gain from visiting the site.

2. Write a window title with good visibility in search engines and bookmark lists

Begin the TITLE tag with the company name, followed by a brief description of the site. Don’t start with words like “The” or “Welcome to” unless you want to be alphabetized under “T” or “W.”

3. Group all corporate information in one distinct area

Finding out about the company is rarely a user’s first task, but sometimes people do need details about who you are. Good corporate information is especially important if the site hopes to support recruiting, investor relations. or PR. but it can also serve to increase a new or lesser-known company’s credibility. An “About company-name ” section is the best way to link users to more in-depth information than can be presented on the homepage. (See also my report on usability guidelines for the design of “about us” areas of corporate websites .)

Help Users Find What They Need

4. Emphasize the site’s top high-priority tasks

Your homepage should offer users clear starting points for the main 1–4 tasks they’ll undertake when visiting your site.

5. Include a search input box

Search is an important part of any big website. When users want to search, they typically scan the homepage looking for “the little box where I can type,” so your search should be a box. [Make your search box at least 25 characters wide,] so it can accommodate multiple words without obscuring parts of the user’s query.

(Update: Based on more recent findings, my recommendation is now to make the search box 27 characters wide. This and other new guidelines are covered in our course on Top Web UX Design Guidelines at the annual UX Conference .)

Reveal Site Content

6. Show examples of real site content

Don’t just describe what lies beneath the homepage. Specifics beat abstractions. and you have good stuff. Show some of your best or most recent content.

7. Begin link names with the most important keyword

Users scan down the page, trying to find the area that will serve their current goal. Links are the action items on a homepage, and when you start each link with a relevant word. you make it easier for scanning eyes to differentiate it from other links on the page. A common violation of this guideline is to start all links with the company name, which adds little value and impairs users’ ability to find what they need quickly.

8. Offer easy access to recent homepage features

Users will often remember articles, products, or promotions that were featured prominently on the homepage, but they won’t know how to find them once you move the features inside the site. To help users locate key items, keep a short list of recent features on the homepage, and supplement it with a link to a permanent archive of all other homepage features.

Use Visual Design to Enhance, not Define, Interaction Design

9. Don’t over-format critical content, such as navigation areas

You might think that important homepage items require elaborate illustrations, boxes, and colors. However, users often dismiss graphics as ads and focus on the parts of the homepage that look more likely to be useful.

10. Use meaningful graphics

Don’t just decorate the page with stock art. Images are powerful communicators when they show items of interest to users, but they will backfire if they seem frivolous or irrelevant. For example, it’s almost always best to show photos of real people actually connected to the topic. rather than pictures of models.

Password Breaking in Access

MS Access uses the underlying Jet Database Engine. Using Access Password, you can reveal passwords for any Jet databases, not only Access databases.

Note that the security model in MS Access is quite complex (although it is insecure). There are two different password types: user passwords and database passwords. Read this article for more information on Access password types. Note that database passwords were introduced in Access 95. MS Access v2.0 does not support database passwords. In MS Access 2007, the security model has been redesigned; database security has been improved, and user passwords have been removed at all. You can find more information on password types in MS Access in this article .

Database passwords for old Access databases (2003 and earlier) can be recovered instantly. To recover Access 2007 passwords, you have to use the universal password recovery methods. such as Brute Force Attack and Dictionary Attack. This may take a long time if the password is long and complex. Fortunately, we offer a unique Guaranteed Access 2007 Password Recovery Service. You can recover any password-protected Access 2007 database within 48 hours – regardless of the password length (databases created with earlier versions of Access can be recovered instantly). You can find further information on Guaranteed Access 2007 Password Recovery Service here. In Access 2010 password protection has been redesigned once again. Now Access 2010 uses the same password protection scheme as do other Office applications, such as Word, Excel or OneNote. This password protection scheme is very hard to break; Access 2010 password recovery is an extremely challenging task. Find more information here .

User passwords are stored in a so-called system database (.mda (old Access 2.0) or .mdw (modern versions) file).

IMPORTANT NOTE: the system database is required to crack a user password. If the system database is lost, there is no way to recover user passwords. If your system database is lost, please contact us for further information). To recover a database password, select the database itself (.mdb or .mde file). To recover user passwords, select the system database (.mda or .mdw file).

Access Password can automatically find the currently registered system database. Note that it is very important to use the correct system database. Often password problems with Access databases are caused by using an improper system database.

Note: We recover lost or forgotten passwords to Access password-protected files, but if your file is corrupted or damaged you can use use special data recovery tools. more information .

Broken databases If a database is broken, Access may erroneously ask for a password. There is no chance to recover such database with any password recovery tool. Access databases often get broken due to a horrible bug made by Microsoft in Office XP. This bug is confirmed (and fixed in the later releases) by Microsoft, more information can be found here. There is a well-known auto-replace feature in MS Word, for example, Word replaces a (c) sequence with a single copyright character. In all databases broken because of this bug, the reverse replacement was performed. The 0a9h byte is replaced with a (c) sequence (ASCII 0a9h is a copyright symbol), 0aeh – (r) and so forth. As a result Access databases are broken and there is a little chance to convert them back. If you open a broken database with a HEX editor you’ll see, for instance, the ‘(c)’ text at offset 21h while the 0a9h byte must be there. Access Password can detect a broken database and raise a warning that the database is broken rather than password-protected. We can try to recover your broken database manually but please note that it is a rather expensive service. Email us for a price quote. In your letter, please specify the size of your database.

Blonde Ice (1948 )

fantastic ice cool blonde central performance

Much as I love the film noir genre, a lot of so called noir do turn out to be little more than B movie filler. Every now and again though one turns up to surprise you. This is nothing incredible but is very watchable indeed with a fantastic ice cool blonde central performance from Leslie Brooks. She seems to have had a decent career but I don t recall her taking the lead in anything else I ve seen – gangster s moll more like. Based on the book by Whitman Chambers ( Once Too Often , although interestingly, Manhandled on my own copy, which is a bit misleading because this lady doesn t get manhandled by anyone). The film lacks those deep dark shadows and night time location shooting, it even lacks any real baddies, unless you count the aspiring politician, but it does have a femme fatale. And what a performance Leslie Brooks gives as the most convincing ruthless ice maiden who does all the killing herself. Bit slow to start and seems to be slipping into screwball territory at one point but once on track this smokes.

Access Management

When you use your account’s root credentials, you can access all the resources in your AWS account. In contrast, when you create IAM users, IAM groups, or IAM roles, you must explicitly give permissions to these entities so that users can access your AWS resources.

This section describes permissions. which are rights that you grant to a user, group, or role that define what tasks users are allowed to perform in your AWS account. To define permissions, you use policies. which are documents in JSON format.

To learn more, we recommend you read the following sections:

Overview of AWS IAM Permissions — This section discusses types of permissions, how to grant them, and how to manage permissions.

Overview of IAM Policies — This section discusses how to specify what actions are allowed, which resources to allow the actions on, and what the effect will be when the user requests access to the resources.

Working with Policies — This section describes how to create and manage policies by using the AWS Management Console, the AWS CLI, and the IAM API.

Using Policy Validator — This section describes how to use the Policy Validator when you have policies that do not comply with the AWS policy grammar.

AWS IAM Policy Reference — This section describes the elements, variables, and evaluation logic used in policies.

Example Policies for Administering IAM Resources — This section lists policies that let users perform tasks specific to IAM, like administer users, groups, and credentials.

Example Policies for Administering AWS Resources — This section lists policies that let users perform tasks with other AWS services, like Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, and DynamoDB.

Managing Active Directory with Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010

Introduction

It’s hard to find a Windows environment that doesn’t rely heavily on Active Directory these days. Indeed, since the inception of AD in the late 90s and early 2000s it has become the de-facto directory of choice and the ‘single source of truth’ for logon credentials, username schemas, mailboxes and many other identity-related facets of an organization. Many organizations simply synchronize data from their HR system directly into Active Directory and populate a few fields of information, but how does this data get managed inside the directory? Provisioning and de-provisioning become a big issue, as is synchronization of credentials and automating workflows in other tools that rely on the directory. Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 simplifies a lot of these tasks while helping enterprises clean up their Active Directory environment as well. In this article, we’ll walk through some of the features and capabilities of FIM to help you decide if it’s right for your company.

What is FIM and what is it good at?

When evaluating Identity and Access tools, it can be difficult to decide how much to bite off and what an organization really needs from a requirements perspective. Large vendors offer very comprehensive suites of tools that are costly and often require a lot of specialized services to implement and fine tune. For many enterprises, a simple set of requirements emerge when looking at:

  • Data Synchronization. The FIM Synchronization service includes the meta-directory, the provisioning engine, and the management agents (MAs) (See Figure 1). It allows for synchronization between the FIM database and other identity sources in an organization.
  • Self-service password reset – Allowing users to reset their own password to avoid tying up helpdesk resources.
  • Provisioning and de-provisioning accounts in the directory.

FIM fulfills these requirements and has a relatively low cost of admission compared to other products on the market, especially for organizations that are Microsoft shoppers and have Microsoft skillsets within their IT team.

Figure 1: Management Agent creation / provisioning options (Source: technet.com)

Identity and Password Synchronization

Synchronizing Identities (particularly usernames and passwords) across multiple systems can be a quick win for an identity and access solution. Giving a user a single set of credentials to remember and manage makes it easier for them to get their work done, provides for faster provisioning and onboarding when users are accessing new systems and services, and allows for more efficient credential management in an enterprise environment.

FIM offers what is called a state-based system for identity synchronization. It infers changes in the identity store with previously stored data and decides whether there’s been a modification or not. FIM uses Management Agents (MAs) to synchronize with other systems like Siebel, People Soft, etc. Imports from these systems are done on a ‘delta’ basis, importing only what’s changed from the primary source. This allows for business rules to be enforced persistently across the entire environment. For example, synchronization of objects can be done on a regular schedule (every 24 hours) and policy can be enforced across the environment uniformly for things like minimum password length, password expiration, etc.

Synchronizing multiple data sources through FIM allows for an important view into the environment from an audit and compliance perspective as well. Being able to perform a cursory audit on other systems, but diving deep on credential security and configuration in a single system like Active Directory through the FIM meta-verse, saves a lot of time and energy from an internal and external review perspective. Also, the ability to add and remove Management Agents provides for future growth as you expand FIM out beyond simple Active Directory and your HR application synchronization. If the default FIM interface and options don’t provide enough “detail”, there is a scripting component that allows for development of custom Management Agents and a fairly active partner community that develops these as well. Synchronization of identity with FIM is something you can start small with and grow as you need to.

Self-service password reset

With many organizations citing password reset as the #1 request to the helpdesk, the ability to move to a self-service option is very attractive. Providing users a set of questions and process (See Figure 2) to perform their own password reset could save tens of thousands of dollars in time and resources over the course of a year. Indeed, many companies justify the cost of an identity and access solution based on the potential cost savings from this module.

Figure 2: FIM Self-Service Password Reset registration screen (source: blogs.technet.com)

In FIM, there are two components to the self-service password reset module: the FIM Password Reset Portal and the FIM Password Reset client, which gets installed locally on managed machines. A current drawback with the solution today is that it’s required to be installed on a domain-joined client. In future versions of FIM, Microsoft has hinted that this module will be expanded to work on non-domain joined clients as well.

To use the password management tool, users must first register with the system and enter a number of data points. A set of security questions is created by the administrator that the user must provide valid answers to. These questions can be defined by the administrator and the user has the ability to select which they’d like to answer. Examples include “What City were you born in?” or “What was your first pet’s name?” This flexibility reduces the likelihood that the user can be easily spoofed and the customization of questions allows the administrator to keep a ‘hands-off’ approach to the reset process as much as possible.

From a user interface perspective, the Self Service Password Reset module in FIM integrates into the Windows logon screen, providing for a very seamless experience for the end user. This is a huge plus when training end users on the process to change or reset their password.

Provisioning and De-Provisioning Accounts

FIM can be used as the authoritative provisioning and de-provisioning tool for Active Directory. This is great from an Active Directory cleanup perspective as users can be assigned groups for things like job role or physical site and as they move from one location to another. With FIM, the provisioning process can be triggered through a workflow embedded in a tool like SharePoint or even in Outlook for group management. Business rules can be enforced to automatically remove access to certain resources or remove objects out of groups as users transfer roles within the company (ex: moving from an HR organizational role to an IT organizational role).

A big issue in provisioning accounts is the lack of a consistent and easy to use process for an accounts administrator to add, remove or modify accounts. The Active Directory Users and Groups tool is not the most intuitive user interface and mistakes can easily be made. FIM provides a step by step blueprint to provision a new employee and a drop-down for a job or role, eliminates much of the human error factor (See Figure 3). Again, this is very helpful from an audit and compliance perspective as well.

Figure 3: Customized FIM portal administration screen. (Source: blogs.msdn.com)

Summary

Forefront Identity Manager is a relatively low cost solution for Identity and Access management. It is not as complex as some other products on the market, but an easy integration with Active Directory and a tight coexistence with the Microsoft ecosystem, large or small. The user experience for self-service password reset is tough to compete with. Synchronizing objects in the meta-verse is an easily automated process and is extensible to a number of different systems. Learn more about FIM here and see if it makes sense to deploy in your environment.

Storyline

In 2044, solar storms have killed 99.7 % of the world’s population and only 21 million people survive. The ROC Corporation has designed and built robots called Automata Pilgrim 7000 to help to rebuild the world. These robots have two security protocols; they can neither harm humans nor alter themselves or other robots. When police officer Sean Wallace shoots a robot and claims that it was altering itself, ROC insurance agent Jacq Vaucan is placed in charge of the investigation. Soon he believes that there is a “clocksmith” illegally modifying the robots. Jacq wants to live in the coast and asks his boss and friend Robert Bold to transfer him with his pregnant wife Rachel Vaucan to the coast. Robert offers the possibility if Jacq resolves the case. Jacq and Wallace go to a brothel where the modified robot Cleo attends and Wallace shoots its leg, expecting that the owner will lead them to the clocksmith. They meet Duprè but she is not the clocksmith that is modifying the robots. Soon. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

I really enjoyed this film. I didn t know anything about it before viewing and was pleasantly surprised. I found the plot interesting and the whole film had a fresh and classy feel to it. The locations it was filmed in gave it a very unique look and the directing was perfect in my opinion. Antonio Banderas gave one of the best performances i ve seen recently in a sci-fi film and i hope he does more movies in this genre.

In parts it reminded me of a cross between Blade Runner and District 9, but with an identity of it s own. It didn t feel like a rip off movie and i would watch it again.

Give it a try, i think you ll enjoy it.

How to find which personalization settings someone made using the “personalization” link in the system links

Let me first start with the following question: Why in God’s name would someone be interested in this kind of information in the first place? Well –let me tell you that whenever you encounter a certain “bug” in your system (especially the type where you have an issue for a specific user –that is using the same SAP CRM business role –has the same authorizations, and you are trying to figure out what is going on – you are struggling to find a solution – you are looking for the needle in the haystack) than at this point the information below “might ” be very relevant for you.

Just to cut to the chase – at my current customer we have noticed multiple times that certain functionalities in SAP CRM were not behaving in the same way as they were supposed to – e.g. email behavior in the ERMS context, but also other things. If you notice that out of 50 users 48 do not have an issue with this functionality – and the only different but obvious thing you notice immediately is that this user is not using the same Skin, than I can tell you – God has its mysterious ways – but so does SAP. For me – a skin is a skin – and should Not have any influence whatsoever on a business process, but apparently this can happen.

For your information. at this particular customer we have created only 1 custom made specific skin. As all end-users are expected and supposed to use that skin. we clearly only perform unit and integration testing on our development and acceptance system, using that same skin. (but you know end-users I guess …they always play with new tools)

1. Finding that personalization table

As we noticed once again some user was stubborn, and decided to change skins, we now wanted to actually “find” back who was using the Customer Skin or not. so we needed to find out in which table this information was stored.

On a regular basis I have some sort of game/competition where a colleague and I try to solve an issue or in this case find an answer the quickest. As my colleague Rob has more experience in debugging (he has developed in the past) he usually starts his “quest” using the debug style ….

As a functional consultant I use other approaches (although it usually includes some debugging…as a last resort –as my colleague would obviously beat me on that particular topic).

  1. I looked at the technical details of the view that allows Skin Personalization. Using the F2 button, I quickly found out the component/view information: CRM_BSP_PERS/Layout
  2. I next quickly checked the class of this view using the BSP component workbench (BSP_WD_CMPWB): CL_CRM_BSP__LAYOUT_IMPL
  3. I next moved on to SAP OSS notes (my biggest source in finding relevant technical information). Looking at notes relevant to Skin changes/issues, I then would quickly check if I could find a relevant class/function module/method that I can check via SE24/SE37/SE80/…. By looking at the code of such a method or function module I was hoping to find the relevant table. Well – I found 2 useful classes/methods –but still had troubles finding the relevant table.
  4. Now my time was ticking away–and I tried an ST01 or ST05 table trace (SQL).

In the output of this trace there were quite some tables, so I quickly tried to scan them via transaction code SE11/S16. Suddenly I heard my colleague say – hey Davy – I found the table. When he mentioned the name I got a bit frustrated, as 2 minutes earlier I actually already had a brief look at that particular table, but thought it was not the relevant one…if you look at how you need to look up the skin details by user –than you’ll probably understand why I overlooked it in my haste.

We found out a lot of personalization objects of a user are stored in table SPERS_OBJ. Below some of the things you can find in this table are displayed.

Go to the table SPERS_OBJ using transaction code SE11 or SE16 and display the data browser:

Use CRM_THTMLB_PERS_SKIN as PERS_KEY and enter the user ID as OBJECT_ID:

Executing this results in getting the value of the skin personalization for this user in the field FIELDVALUE (in this case default):

In table SPERS_OBJ we can now see that the value has changed (HIGH CONTRAST in this example:

Text Size settings/personalization:

In table SPERS_OBJ, use CRM_THTMLB_PERS_FSIZ as PERS_KEY to find the text size for a specific user:

The first performance setting can be found using CRM_THTMLB_PERS_NOEF as PERS_KEY in table SPERS_OBJ:

The second performance setting can be found using CRM_CONFIG_MODE_ENABLED as PERS_KEY in table SPERS_OBJ:

Recent Items settings/personalization:

In the navigation bar you can find a section ‘Recent Items’ that can be personalized in certain business roles (e.g. SALESPRO):

Choose ‘Recent Items’ in the dropdown list:

In the screen that appears you can choose to display the recent items and the number of entries that need to appear:

The chosen options are all stored in table SPERS_OBJ. Use PERS_KEY CRM_PERS_RECENT_OBJECTS. Per profile you’ll find three values that return in the field FIELDNAME:

  • HIDDEN: The opposite of the value of the checkbox that indicates whether the recent items should be displayed or not
  • MAX_NUM: The number of entries that are displayed as recent items
  • PROFILE: The profile the personalization of recent items is valid for (e.g. SALESPRO)

2. Hide skins

As a second topic of this article, I will show you how to hide certain skins. For our earlier problem, this seems the best way to avoid any future problems due to using a different skin.

Let’s assume I want to disable the skin “Serenity”.

First of all, find out the name of the skin you want to hide from the personalization settings. Do this by using following path in transaction code SPRO :

The table in which you can define which skins should be “disabled” is

Maintain table CRMC_THTMLB_SKNE in transaction code SM30 :

Choose new entries and add the skins you want to hide/deactivate:

Using the input help, I now can see the list of available skins:

As I want to ‘disable’ SERENITY for this example, I select it.

Now I log-off and on again, I check the result in the CRM WEBUI.
Great – Serenity is no longer visible in the list – as you can see in below screenshot.

Cheers and talk to you soon
