Ohio quadruplet brothers accepted at Ivy League universities

Quadruplet brothers in Ohio have all been accepted at some of the nation’s top universities, including each of them to both Yale and Harvard.

The Wade brothers of the northern Cincinnati suburb of Liberty Township say they have been notified in recent days of acceptances from a number of notable schools. Lakota East High School principal Suzanna Davis tells the Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News that the four seniors epitomize academic focus but are well-rounded, “great young men” with individual personalities.

Aaron, Nick, Nigel and Zachary haven’t made their decisions, though Aaron likes Stanford University and his three brothers are leaning toward Yale. Financial aid offers likely will play an important role.

The youths said they are grateful to their parents and to the Lakota schools and their teachers.

“It’s really something we couldn’t have done on our own without all the support we have had through our lives,” Nick said. “It has been awesome.”

Their mother, Kim Wade, is a junior high school principal in the Lakota district, and their father, Darrin Wade, works at General Electric Co.

“We feel like getting into these schools show who the people around us are,” Nigel said.

Zachary added that they have always gotten encouragement that “the sky’s the limit” with their hard work.

“We were never told that we couldn’t get somewhere,” Zachary said.

The Washington Post reports that Harvard doesn’t comment on admission statuses and that Yale said by policy, it doesn’t discuss admitted students.

Bachelor of Multimedia Design ( BMultMedDes )

Why study the Bachelor of Multimedia Design?

The Bachelor of Multimedia Design is a studio-based program providing students with the knowledge and skills to become the designers, architects and implementers of highly sophisticated multimedia projects. Whether it is building a corporate presence on the web or designing new formats for interactive television, multimedia design is central to creatively engaging an audience.

The major focus of the program is on the integration of theory and technology and their practical application in design projects. Areas include animation, graphic design, sound production, 3D modelling, internet authoring, game design and interactive media design. An important feature of the program is its focus on teamwork and team projects undertaken in a studio environment. You can also gain credit for industrial certification courses licensed by major commercial software developers.

During the program students build a portfolio of many different projects and often undertake projects with industry based clients. In particular, final year students have the opportunity for advanced study and research projects with significant industry partners through UQ participation in the Australasian Cooperative Research Centre for Interaction Design (ACID) which is investigating new forms of human interaction with emerging technologies.

Graduates are in demand within the education, arts and commercial industries, which want to engage audiences, and demand for this level of expertise is increasing worldwide.

Solar Energy – Renewable and Alternative Energy – Penn State Extension #renewable #energy #universities

Solar Energy

Traditionally, the sun has provided energy for practically all living creatures on earth, through the process of photosynthesis, in which plants absorb solar radiation and convert it into stored energy for growth and development. Scientists and engineers today seek to utilize solar radiation directly by converting it into useful heat or electricity.

Two main types of solar energy systems are in use today: photovoltaics, and thermal systems. There is a great deal of opportunity for using these systems in the state of Pennsylvania, and ongoing work at Penn State is seeking to improve the available technology and increase the utilization of solar energy systems in the keystone state.

Solar photovoltaics

Photovoltaic systems convert solar radiation to electricity via a variety of methods. The most common approach is to use silicon panels, which generate an electrical current when light shines upon it. Penn State University is involved in several projects to demonstrate and encourage the use of solar energy at appropriate locations within Pennsylvania. Solar photovoltaics are especially valuable for remote rural applications where it would be prohibitively expensive to supply electricity from a utility line.

Solar thermal systems

Solar Thermal Systems seek to store heat from the sun that can be used for a variety of purposes. Many different approaches can be employed here, including active systems, such as solar hot water heaters, and passive systems, in which careful engineering design results in a building that automatically stores and utilizes solar energy. Greenhouses are a prime candidate for passive solar design, in which they collect solar energy on sunny days in winter and utilize it to keep the house warm at night.

The main advantages of solar energy are that it is clean, able to operate independently or in conjunction with traditional energy sources, and is remarkably renewable. The main disadvantages are that it is currently more expensive than traditional energy, and the availability of solar radiation varies from day to day, and from season to season. In fact, some parts of Pennsylvania are among the cloudiest spots in the United States. In spite of this, there is still opportunity for using solar energy effectively in Pennsylvania.
