Used Cars In My Area

If you are in the market for a new or newer vehicle then you have so many options available. No matter if you favor domestic or imported models of vehicles, there is a vast amount of resources to obtain information about vehicles and where you can purchase them. For some consumers, purchasing a brand new vehicle is strictly out of the question either due to financial restraints or even their location; so inevitably, used cars are the next best thing to purchasing a newer vehicle.

There can be many advantages to purchasing a used car over a brand new vehicle. You will have to do your research in order to obtain the very best deal around when you are in the market for a newer vehicle. Benefits such as the manufacturer’s or purchasing an extended warranty, as well as additional options that are not included in the base models can help you make your final decision when browsing for a newer vehicle.

One of the most common choices that a consumer makes when searching for a used vehicle is examining the 3-year lease end models at the local dealership in their area. Having a 3-year lease gives the consumer a chance to see if they wish to purchase the vehicle permanently and if they don’t, they can return it to the dealership to try a newer model or something entirely different. Typically these lease buy-back vehicles have been used as either fleet vehicles, for rental cars or even for someone who has decided not to purchase their brand new vehicle after their lease has terminated.

When you are deciding on a used car, be sure to take a look at the extended warranty options that are available to you. Most used vehicles will not have much time left on their original manufacturer’s warranty and you may wish to purchase an extended warranty for your own security. For many used cars you will have an individualized warranty that guarantees your purchase from any large defects in the near future, but when looking for long-term security, obtaining an extended warranty may be your best bet.

If you find that time is against you and it is hard for you to travel from dealership to individual sellers, you can utilize the Internet as your largest resource for seeking out the used vehicle that you need. Being able to browse many websites such as local dealerships or even Ebay for your newer vehicle can help cut down the time you would spend running around in search of the vehicle you want.

Ebay has been dealing with online vehicle sales for quite some time now, and with fantastic success. Although just as anything you would purchase online, making a large vehicle purchase should be carefully considered. You can obtain information about vehicles both in your area as well as outside your local residence during your search. Depending on how you wish to proceed with the sale, for some, finding a vehicle close to home is the better choice in order to have a mechanical inspection conducted and all the necessary paperwork completed. No matter how you search for and purchase your vehicle, whether you use the Internet or just your local newspaper, be sure to check out all the available options for the best used car for you. Find a “used car in my area” here.

Looking for The Cheapest Car Insurance

Liability car insurance is required by law, but there are other reasons to carry a policy. Most lenders require full coverage insurance if you are buying a car. Plus, it protects you in the event of an accident even if you are not at fault. However, car insurance often is expensive and can take a chunk out of the budget, especially if you have more than one driver or multiple cars.

Time-consuming and Challenging

Looking for the cheapest car insurance can be a challenge for the busy person. It requires them to input their information over and over on various company websites or call insurance providers to get quotes. In the end, many people get frustrated and settle for the first reasonable quote they receive. Unfortunately, they may be missing out on a good deal because they didn’t have the time to spend on research.

With our site, you don’t have to take up your valuable time shopping for prices on insurance coverage. Just use our site to do the comparison for you. You enjoy the benefit of inputting your information one time and receiving multiple quotes that are relevant to your needs. With this method, you end up saving time and money.

Accurate Information for Accurate Rates

The key to getting the cheapest car insurance possible is to put as much information as you know to get more accurate quotes. For instance, including your zip code allows us to search for quotes based on where you live, which can have an impact on the prices you receive. By providing as much information as possible, you can view the results in the comparison chart and know where you save the most money.

When you use our comparison site, you end up with rates that are a true comparison. The coverage is the same or similar for each of the companies, which helps you to recognize where you are truly getting the best deal. This allows you to select affordable coverage instead of limiting yourself to the least expensive policy you can find on your own. When looking for the cheapest auto insurance, you can make sure that your policy limits are what you want them to be, giving you peace of mind while staying within budget.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Name Here from I got this phone as a last resort. That’s exactly what it should be. Storage is awful; LG has limited the SD card capabilities to only allow file transfers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Dj in WI from ok phone for the price Have had it for a month now, and when I first got it and turned it on it was very annoying with it voice commands. It has far to many apps loaded on it that I will never use, or are useless to most people. Put on the basics and let US add what WE want. The battery dies way to fast and I hardly use it. I clean it up often, but that doesnt seem to help. Screen touch is good, but a screen saver seems to have effected this. I am still learning things with this phone, and wish I could get the Google search box off my home screen and get it to go to a 2nd screen I can swipe to. I also dont care for the keyboards, neither of them has a true back button like my actual keyboard on my old phone, but I am dealing with it. It just very annoying to take extra steps just to back space w/o deleting. So its a decent phone for beginners or those who cant afford something more.

It’s a good phone on the outside but until I can figure it out if I even do, it’s got a one star from me :/

Conceptual Glass Artist John Kiley To Create New Work As Part of Toledo Museum of Art’s GAPP Residency

Shattered glass may seem like the opposite of what a renowned contemporary glassblower would work towards, but for American artist John Kiley, smashing and reconstructing glass is exactly the point in his recent series of work called “Fractographs.” Beginning with optical crystal blocks, Kiley shatters the glass once with a sledgehammer and then carefully pieces [ ]

Marijuana and Addiction

Marijuana (also known as Weed or Pot) is the most frequently abused (mostly) illegal drug in the US, and makes up 17% of admissions to treatment programs [1].

Treatment is often sought because the long-term use of marijuana can lead to addiction, and individuals looking to quit have to deal with challenging withdrawal symptoms that can keep them from stopping their marijuana abuse.

Statistics show that about 7 percent, or roughly 1 in 14 teens, report using marijuana in the past month. [3]

Is marijuana addictive?

Abuse of any substance – including marijuana – is when the user begins seeking the substance compulsively and continues use though there have been harmful effects to their lives, including problems with family, school, work or the legal system. Research has shown that about 9% of all marijuana users [2] become addicted and that those who start early and who are daily users are more susceptible to marijuana addiction.

What happens when you try to quit smoking pot and you’re addicted?

Pot smokers who are classified as marijuana abusers frequently report that they have withdrawal symptoms that include sleeplessness, no appetite, anxiety, cravings to use, and irritability. While any of these can make quitting difficult, the combination of several symptoms can make it difficult to stay on the road to recovery. This is where SMART Recovery can help.

How do I stop smoking marijuana?

SMART provides our members with tools and skills that they can use to help them recover from marijuana addiction as well as alcohol, or other drugs or negative behaviors. SMART Recovery, which can be used as a support group alternative to Marijuana Anonymous (MA), uses a 4-Point Program , with each element designed to help you overcome your problems with abusing marijuana:

Building Maintaining Motivation – Helps you identify and keep up with your reasons to quit. Why do you want to quit smoking pot – what will keep you focused on that goal?

Coping with Urges – Dealing with urges and cravings is part of recovery. SMART has tools designed to help our members cope with urges to use or smoke pot that can help you maintain abstinence.

Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors – We frequently turn to using drugs to either escape from or avoid solving our problems. SMART’s members learn problem-solving tools to help them manage challenges along the way.

Lifestyle Balance – When you are addicted to, or abuse a drug like marijuana, your life frequently falls out of balance – you may find yourself opting to smoke pot rather than go to work or school. You may find that things you used to enjoy aren’t fun anymore. SMART Recovery helps members build skills to help balance both short and long-term goals, pleasures and needs that were once out of balance due to drug abuse.

Where do I go from here?

Getting started with SMART Recovery is easy! If you would like to get started right away, you can join our online support group where you can read, share and learn from our worldwide community of members at any time of the day or night. You can also find a local SMART Recovery meeting. or, if we don’t have any meetings in your area yet, you can join us at one of our online meetings.

If you’d like to have printed material to refer to, you can purchase the SMART Recovery Handbook.

Smart House Catches Burglars

WATCH Monitor Home From Your Cell Phone

For years the smart home has seemed like one of the ultimate dreams of how technology could enhance our lives — responding to, and even anticipating, every whim for entertainment, comfort, and safety. The road to the automated home, however, has been difficult — fraught with exorbitant prices, difficult installations, and incompatible and unreliable products.

Even so, more companies are now looking to get into the business. Among them are Verizon Wireless, which has begun to offer home automation installations; security giant ADT via its Pulse offering; and Vivint (formerly APX Alarm) an up-and-coming ADT competitor, which installed its security and automation offering in my home and provided up to a year of service for me to test it.

Vivint’s system is controlled in two main ways. The first is a touch panel installed near the front door that provides weather at-a-glance and is useful for arming and disarming the system upon entry. Arming can be done in either “home” or “away” mode, with the former turning off motion sensors. The second way is via a well-designed website and group of smartphone apps (no iPad app yet) from a company called Alarm.com that makes it easy to configure users and passwords, as well as operate nearly every aspect of the system remotely, which is one of the best features of the system.

Vivint offers an impressive array of sensors based on the Z-Wave wireless home automation standard. These include motion detection, glass breakage detection, water detection, carbon monoxide and fire detection, and opening and closing of doors. If you’ve heard about alarms being set off by pets activating motion alarms, that problem seems to have been addressed by updates that only detect movement by much heavier beings. The system is even theoretically open to other Z-Wave components that can perform more high-tech wizardry, such as opening drapes; however, casual attempts at controlling components via home automation software yielded only partial success.

While most of these sensors are barely noticeable, other parts of the Vivint system make your walls and ceilings look like they’ve sprung plastic goiters. The Vivint system logs everything, and allows you to have a complete record of every time someone opens a window a door.

Speaking of doors, another key component is the door lock, which allows you to open the door with either a traditional key or a keypad. It was really liberating to leave the house without taking those jangling keys, and to be able to unlock a door from across the country remotely to let in the house sitter.

Next up are the thermostats, which have simple monochrome touch screens for switching between heating and cooling. Vivint claims that between the discount on homeowners’ insurance, and the better energy savings achieved via programmable thermostats, the Vivint system can pay for itself. While I didn’t make that calculation, it was pretty cool — so to speak — to be able to turn on air conditioning remotely on the way home via the Alarm.com app. On occasion, though, the app did not receive feedback on the status of the thermostat, even when it successfully sent a command to turn the air on.

This raises another point about home automation via Vivint, which is that everything is done through a cellular connection, even if you are at home. It would be nice to have a way to control the system via Wi-Fi, too.

Along with temperature control, another key aspect of home control is lighting –particularly the ability to control dimming at various times. Vivint supports various lamp and appliance modules today for timed control of lamps, but the real win comes with control of in-wall switches that the company is planning to support. Alas, these proved to be Vivint’s Waterloo: Despite multiple visits, Vivint could not get the lights hooked up to the system, although it is likely to improve as the company gains experience with more installations.

Vivint also offers two different kinds of cameras that can help keep tabs on things while you’re away, or record video in case you want to turn back the clock a bit and check for any home disruptions. One of its models offers remote panning and tilting capabilities to survey a large room, but it does not yet offer outdoor cameras for nighttime surveillance.

Living in a home with any security system involves a bit of learning and lifestyle adjustment — and there was the inevitable false alarm that Vivint’s operators took in stride. The key thing about adding control of things like door locks, cameras, and thermostats is that they take what is normally a passive benefit — like security — and makes it something that can be actively used in daily life. It’s certainly not a need that everyone has, but it’s a much more affordable option than having a custom installer outfit one’s home.

The dream of complete, seamless control of a home remains down the road, but those looking for a modern security system can at least unlock their front door remotely before they get home.

Top 6 Big-Screen Smartphones: The Best of the Biggest

Remember when cellphone makers were fighting tooth and nail trying to make the smallest phones on the planet? Well, those times are long gone, my friend. Comically small Derek Zoolander-esque handsets are so 2001.

Today, we’re all about the finger-stretching, pocket-punishing, big-screen devices that straddle the line between smartphone and tablet. And, boy, are there a lot of them.

Screenshot from Zoolander

Your tiny phone is unwanted.

With so many huge smartphones — or what we’ll begrudgingly refer to as phablets — on the market, it can be quite a chore trying to figure out which one you should call your own. That’s where we come in.

Here are the six best gigantic phones, and what each is best at:

1. Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 features an enormous 5.7-inch Super AMOLED (active matrix of organic light-emitting diodes) display that’s as beautiful as it is huge. But the Note 4, which runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, is more than just a pretty face. That’s because Samsung made sure that the handset’s screen is as functional as it is big.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

With features like Multi Window mode, which lets you interact with two onscreen apps at once, and a new Pop-up View that allows you to open as many apps as you want in resizable windows, the Note 4 is a multitasking monster. And let’s not forget the phablet’s excellent S Pen stylus, which lets you write on the Note 4 just like a notepad.

Oh, and with a 16-megapixel camera and optical image stabilization, the Note 4 captures some seriously impressive photos.

With so much going for it, it’s easy to see why Samsung’s Note 4 is one of the best big-screen phones you can buy.

2. Apple iPhone 6 Plus
Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus is the company’s first attempt at a giant smartphone, and, true to form, it’s a winner. Packing a massive 5.5-inch Retina HD display, the iPhone 6 Plus is a full 2 inches larger than the very first iPhone that debuted in 2007.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus

To compensate for its significant footprint, Apple equipped the iOS 8-powered 6 Plus with a special Reachability feature that pulls the top of the screen down to within reach of your thumb whenever you double-tap the home button.

What’s more, a new landscape view takes advantage of the phone’s larger display by letting you view apps like Mail, Calendar, and Stocks (not to mention the home screen) in a horizontal landscape orientation rather than the traditional portrait view.

The 6 Plus is also the first, and only, iPhone to get an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, so your photos will look great even if you take them while you’re moving.

3. Nokia Lumia 1520
What’s this? A Windows Phone on a “best of” list? You better believe it. The first big-screen Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 1520, is also among the best Microsoft handsets money can buy.

Nokia Lumia 1520

With its 6-inch display, the 1520 bumps right up against the line between phone and tablet. But the Lumia 1520 is more than a big-boned behemoth. It also offers impressive performance and a slick interface.

There’s also a whopping 20-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and the Nokia Camera app, which lets you control everything from the camera’s ISO to its shutter speed settings. Oh, and it’s available in an eyeball-searing bright green.

The downside? Well, because it runs on Windows Phone 8, the Lumia 1520 doesn’t have access to the same apps as Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus or its Android-based competitors. App issues aside, though, this is one wicked smartphone.

4. LG G3
LG’s G3 is one of the rare smartphones that sports an enormous display yet won’t be mistaken for the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. In fact, despite its 5.5-inch display, the G3 is only slightly larger than Samsung’s 5-inch Galaxy S5. That’s some impressive space saving.

Like the Galaxy Note 4, the Android KitKat-powered LG G3 also offers multitasking by letting you open two onscreen apps at once, as well as multiple resizable windows apps. And as with many of the other contenders on this list, the G3’s 13-megapixel camera comes with optical image stabilization.

The G3, however, takes some flak for its Rear Key button, which sees the power and volume buttons move from the side of the handset, like a traditional phone, to the back panel. Once you get acclimated to its odd design, though, the G3 is a certified winner.

5. OnePlus One
The OnePlus One is the odd man out in this roundup, as it’s easily the least well known of the group. But that doesn’t mean you should overlook this 5.5-inch handset. That’s because you can buy this bad boy off-contract for just $300. That’s more than $300 less than your average smartphone.

But don’t think that just because the OnePlus One is inexpensive, that it’s cheap. On the contrary, this smartphone easily rivals its biggest competitors thanks to its gorgeous display, excellent sound, and slim design. Oh, yeah — it’s also incredibly fast and offers an impressive battery life.

The One is also the only phone in this group to run on the highly modified and customizable CyanogenMod for Android.

The problem? Well, it’s the only smartphone on this list with a camera that doesn’t offer optical image stabilization. And it’s rather hard to get your hands on one. At the moment, you have to sign up for an invite to be able to purchase the handset. But if you’re willing to wait, the One should prove well worth it.

6. Google Nexus 6
Before its unveiling, Google’s Motorola-made Nexus 6 was known by the folks in nerd circles by its codename, “Shamu.” Well, it turns out that there was good reason for the moniker, because with a 6-inch display, this Google phone easily dwarfs all of its predecessors.

Beyond its ginormous screen size, the Nexus 6 also gets a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization. But the Nexus 6 gets special recognition for being the first smartphone in the world to come preloaded with Google’s new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

And as a Google phone, the Nexus 6 is also guaranteed to get the latest Android updates as soon as they’re available, rather than having to wait months for your handset manufacturer to provide a modified version of the operating system.

If you’re looking for a big-screen smartphone with a pure Android experience, the Nexus 6 is the handset to get.

The best of the biggest?
Each of these big-screen behemoths is a winner in its own right, but there can be only one true king of the giant phone category, and that is Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4.

With its beautiful display, excellent multitasking capabilities, long battery life, top-notch camera, and included stylus, the Note 4 easily offers the most bang for your buck.

In other words, if you want the best big-screen phone, get the Galaxy Note 4.

5 smart reasons for buying a used car

1 of 7

If your goal is saving money, buying a used car rather than a new one can save you big bucks in several ways.

“I am a big fan of buying used,” says Philip Reed, Edmunds.com senior consumer advice editor. “I think it’s an extremely important way for a family on a budget to save money.”

Jack Nerad, Kelley Blue Book’s executive market analyst, is another cheerleader of buying used. “Used cars are a great value ,” he says. “Cars today are really good and really last a long time. They have longer useful lives than in the ’50s and ’60s when I was growing up.”

While paying a lower purchase price for the same car model used rather than new is the obvious reason to buy a used car, there are others as well.

Even so, Reed cautions that all used cars aren’t created equal. A consumer must do his homework before deciding if a used car is in good or bad shape. With that caveat, here are five of the best reasons to buy a used car .

10 smart moves for buying a used car

By: Margarette Burnette, November 27th 2015

Buying a used car can be a great deal — if you play it smart.

Most three- or four-year-old cars and trucks are very reliable, because automakers have done a lot to improve the safety and durability of every model.

Used vehicles cost a lot less, too, with an average financed amount of $17,900, almost $10,000 less than the amount for a typical new auto.

Buying used also means you avoid the depreciation hit new-car owners get in the first year, so a used car can hold onto its value longer, says Ronald Montoya, consumer advice editor for auto research company Edmunds .

But buying used can be an expensive and tragic game of “rush-in” roulette if you’re too hasty.

You don’t want to overpay or get a car or truck that’s been abused, crashed or dunked in a flood, then dried out and shipped off to be sold to the gullible.

Let our 10 smart moves increase the chances your “new” used vehicle will be a great purchase:

Smart move 1. Check the reliability of the models you’re considering.

Two good sources of information are Consumer Reports magazine’s April auto issue, available in the library or through the Consumer Reports website, and J.D. Power and Associates. a research company that polls buyers about their cars and trucks.

Think twice before buying a model that has a history of significantly more problems than average, especially if major mechanical components such as the engine or transmission are prone to breakdowns.

Smart move 2. Shop around for the best loan.

Many banks and credit unions offer better deals on used-car loans than you’ll find if you try to finance through a dealership.

The typical 36-month used-car loan costs just under 5%, according to our weekly surveys of major lenders, but you could probably do better than 4.9% or 4.8% if you shop around.

Start your search by checking our database of the best auto loan rates from scores of lenders.

Then use our auto loan calculator to find out what the monthly payments would be.

Smart move 3. If saving money is your priority, buy from an individual rather than a new-car dealer.

When you’ve found a vehicle you like, use Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book to see how much it’s worth.

Their calculators will ask for a lot of information about the car or truck, from the make and model to its mileage and optional equipment. In the end, you’ll be given three values. The lowest is what the car would be worth as a trade-in; the others are the prices when sold by an individual or by a new-car dealer.

The private-party price is always lower than the dealer price, because there’s more risk. You won’t get a warranty (unless some of the original factory warranty remains and can be transferred), and some naughty people sell cosmetically reconditioned wrecks to bargain hunters just like you.

Smart move 4. If reliability is most important, buy a certified used vehicle.

Certified preowned (CPO) vehicles sold at new-car dealerships are supposed to undergo rigorous inspections and testing before being resold.

They typically have fewer miles and cosmetic problems and come with some type of warranty, though such agreements can vary considerably.

The only downside: Expect to pay more for a certified auto.

“It will raise the purchase price by an average of $1,000 more than a non-CPO vehicle at the dealership,” Montoya says.

Smart move 5. Avoid dealers with a poor reputation.

If you’ve decided to do business with a dealership, check with the Better Business Bureau and your state’s attorney general to see if previous customers have filed an unusual volume of complaints.

Ask friends and family whether they know anyone who has had a good — or bad — experience with that dealership.

Shy away from independent used-car lots.

They sell the mechanically suspect, high-mileage, worn-out cars and trucks that new-car dealers don’t want.

And they do that without offering any warranty whatsoever. You’re on your own, even if something goes wrong just a few miles down the road.

Smart move 6. Make safety a priority.

Favor cars and trucks that offer such lifesaving features as antilock brakes, side-curtain air bags and electronic stability control, which automatically tries to correct for a skid.

Also, check out how well the vehicle did in crash tests. The most demanding tests available to the public are done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration .

You can search for ratings by make, model and year. The best performers receive the IIHS Top Safety Pick award or NHTSA 5-Star Safety Rating.

Think twice before buying a model that scored poorly on two or more tests.

Dealers that sell and service the brand of vehicle you’re considering can use the vehicle identification number (VIN) to determine whether your car or truck has ever been recalled for a safety defect and whether the repairs were made.

This isn’t a deal breaker. Automakers must fix safety problems for free, no matter who owns the vehicle or how long ago the recall was issued. But you should know what repairs are needed and be prepared to get them done before you buy.

Smart move 7. Check the vehicle’s history.

Services such as Experian’s AutoCheck or Carfax aren’t perfect.

But for about $40, you can use the vehicle identification number to see in which state the vehicle was purchased, whether it has been registered in other states and if there is a history of accidents or title issues.

“A worst-case scenario is if the car was totaled or flood-damaged and someone tried to patch or cover it up and sell it to you,” says Lauren Fix, author of Lauren Fix’s Guide to Loving Your Car .

If you are buying from a dealer, insist the dealer provide you with such a report for free and carefully compare the VIN on the vehicle with that on the report to make sure they are the same.

Smart move 8. Check for a warranty.

The Federal Trade Commission requires dealers to place a “Buyer’s Guide” on the vehicle that tells whether the vehicle has a warranty and what that warranty covers.

If there’s no warranty, the “Buyer’s Guide” must be marked “as is.” That means you take your chances.

Get any promises in writing. Verbal promises don’t carry any weight in a dispute. Pull out paper and pencil anytime a salesperson says, “We’ll fix anything that goes wrong.”

Some newer vehicles may have part of the original manufacturer’s warranty in effect. Just remember, parts of that warranty could be voided if the previous owner didn’t do all of the proper maintenance, so pay attention to the next recommendation.

Smart move 9. Ask the private owner or dealer for service records.

“If a private owner doesn’t have records, that could be a sign the person didn’t take care of the auto the way they should have,” Fix says. Skip the car.

For dealers, ask whether the original owner bought the vehicle at the dealership. Then ask whether the owner had it serviced at the dealership. If the answer is yes, ask for the service records.

If the dealer is unwilling to provide service records, go elsewhere.

Smart move 10. Insist on taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for an examination.

This is something any reputable seller should allow. If the seller refuses, walk away.

Make sure the mechanic examining the vehicle is familiar with the brand and has some kind of certification of expertise from a group such as the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

This checkup could cost $100 to $200 (get the price first), but that’s cheap compared with the cost of finding serious problems later.

10 smart moves for buying a used car

The only downside: Expect to pay more for a certified auto.

“It will raise the purchase price by an average of $1,000 more than a non-CPO vehicle at the dealership,” Montoya says.
