INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOWS

Toronto Auto Show

A s an offically endorsed international auto show since 2004, the Candian International Auto Show has a lot to live up to when comparing it to the larger North American counterparts (Detroit, New York, Chicago, and LA). Held annually in Toronto, Ontario at the Rogers Centre and Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Canadian automobile exhibition is a more intimate event with just under three hundred thousand visitors in 2007. With over a thousand vehicles on display and many automakers introducing new models to the Canadian market at this show, the Toronto auto show is a popular event which draws both national and international visitors every year.

The 2008 exhibition will be held from February 15 through to February 24 and will feature current models, concept cars, classic cars, sport compacts and everything in between to bring an integrated and comprehensive automotive experience for all who attend this excitiing event.

With many international auto manufacturers represented at this show, the diversity in products and nameplates is as interesting as any other international auto exhibition. Car andmotor enthusiasts hoping to get up and personal with the luxury brands like Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maybach and Rolls Royce will not be disappointed. The show will also appeal to those with more modest tastes that are looking for candidates for their next daily driver purchase, with makes like Toyota, Honda, Ford, and others having displays at the Canadian International Auto show.

Perhaps not the spectacle of the other shows on teh international auto exhibition circuit the Canadian international auto show held every year in Toronto will satisfy most car aficionados.

Corvette Z06

The Corvette has been many things since it hit the market in 1953 – boulevard cruiser, V-8 phallic symbol, teenage fantasy, etc. Never mind all that. The seventh-generation Corvette (known as the C7) is brilliant, and Z06 is its |ultimate iteration. The ZO6 uses the same hydro-formed aluminum chassis as the standard C7, but adds bigger brakes, track-worthy suspension, and a low-profile supercharger that pushed the V-8 up to 650 horsepower. The Z06 competes with Porsches and Ferraris for a fraction of the price.

Acura NSX

This is the production version of the NSX show car, which first surfaced in 2012. The NSX resurrects a legendary sports car brand, but with a modern twist. Like the first NSX, which debuted in 1990, the new car has its engine in the middle. But that’s where the resemblance ends: beneath the 2015 car’s curvaceous skin is a high-tech hybrid power train that includes an internal combustion V-6 and three electric motors.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

The affordable, mid-engine sports car has been an oxymoron for some time now. The Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Huracan may be beautiful, but they cost as much as a decent house. Ditto for the McLaren 12C and P1. Even the Porsche Cayman and Lotus Evora can run to more than $100,000. But now there’s the Alfa 4C – it starts at $61,995. The 4C brings the traditional benefits of the mid-engine layout (optimized weight distribution and quick-turning response) in a compact, high-tech package. The chassis features a carbon central tub with bolt-on aluminum sub-frames. It’s an Italian exotic, but in a less expensive package.

The Saint Louis Auto Show opens Thursday and runs through Sunday at America’s Center and Edward Jones Dome, showcasing hundreds of new cars, trucks, SUVs, crossovers and even exotics.

But that’s only the start for car buffs.

Not only will the show spotlight virtually every 2014 model from more than 20 manufacturers, it also will provide a look at some classics and a glimpse into the near automotive future with a dozen or so 2015 models on display.

2015 Production Models

Among the 2015s not yet in showrooms, but at the show, will be:

• GM’s full-size SUVs: Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL

• Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup

• Chrysler 200 midsize sedan

• Ford Mustang and F-150, the latter an all-new version of America’s best-selling vehicle

• Heavy duty pickups from Chevrolet, Ford and GMC

The Horseless Carriage Club of Missouri spotlights “The Golden Glory Years” of the American automobile industry with four decades of classics, from an Auburn Cabriolet and Packard Sport Phaeton, both from 1934, to a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham. In between will be a ’41 Packard, an extremely rare ’51 Frazer four-door convertible and a ’66 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Separate from the HCCM display will be a 1905 Fiat, said to be valued at $2.5 million.

Returning to St. Louis for the 2014 auto show is the Million Dollar Mile, which highlights some of the most exclusive cars in the world. Among them will be a Lamborghini, a Maserati and a Rolls-Royce.

Chrysler and Toyota will offer visitors a chance to sample a variety of 2014 models, including the Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee diesel, Fiat 500L, Dodge Durango, Ram 1500 and Toyota Avalon, Corolla, 4Runner, Highlander, RAV4 and Tundra.

In addition to new cars, the show will provide “drifting” demonstrations with champion driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. motorcycle stunt riding with EightUp, a Kids Zone for youngsters, the electric-car Eco City, a chance to meet and greet hockey legend Brett Hull and more.

The Convention Center hosts a week of displays and events

PhillyVoice Staff

Car fanatics, start your engines: the Philadelphia Auto Show drives into the Pennsylvania Convention Center Saturday, Jan. 31, through Sunday, Feb. 8. More than 700 vehicles will be on display in 700,000 square feet of space just waiting for you to ooh  and ahh.

The show is perfect for attendees who are in the market for a new car. Manufacturers will host displays full of knowledgeable people to give you info about your top picks. Better yet, the PAS is a non-selling show, so the “product specialists” won’t be too pushy.

The best part about the show, of course, is getting to sit in tons of cars. You can pretend you’re a cast member from one of the seven “The Fast and the Furious” movies all day long. Personally, I attend every year just to sit in the latest Volkswagen Beetle and pretend I can afford it.

The show’s lineup includes 2016 pre-production models from Fiat, Lincoln, Mazda and Buick, along with plenty of Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari and Maserati exotics. Classic cars from the ’20s and ’50s also will be on display.

Over the course of the week, Jeep, Toyota and Kia will offer “Ride Drive” opportunities for select vehicles. At the show’s Face-Off display, you can vote for your favorite car – import versus domestic – and enter to win prize packs that include NASCAR and IndyCar tickets. You’ll also be able to check out custom vehicles owned by Philadelphia Eagles like Chris Polk, Najee Goode and Jeremy Maclin.

The show will have plenty of food and drink vendors on hand, but with a hand stamp, you can head out to Reading Terminal Market for your midday meal, too. If you’re worried about crowding, head to the show on Super Bowl Sunday when the rest of the world is gearing up for the big game.

Philly Auto Show: 5 can’t miss things to see at the show

Get your engines started because this year’s Philadelphia Auto Show — at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia — has some fun, quirky finds. Usually people go looking to spot their next new car, but there are other things to see here. Promise.

First, one car has been getting a lot of attention. Built by high school students and their teachers, make sure you don’t walk past this sporty blue gem. At the Workshop School in Philadelphia, students and teachers designed and built a car that runs on bio-diesel fuel.

The bio-diesel fuel came from leftover fryer oil from Federal Donuts. So basically, the car runs on Federal Donuts fryer oil. Really. It does.

“The students at the school have been making hybrid and electric vehicles for a long time,” said Simon Hauger, the school’s principal.

But the goal of this car was to make it “fast, cool-looking and earth-friendly.”

And this car is definitely all of those things. And running on fryer oil — vegetable oil — is environmentally friendly, “it burns cleaner” than regular diesel fuel, Hauger said, it “removes the product from the waste stream,” and it’s a “much better engine lubricant.”

“There are tons of upsides,” he said.

Second, make sure you take a ride at Came Jeep. This reporter hopped into a 2016 black Wrangler Rubicon with driver T.J. and off we went.

Just make sure you put on your seatbelt. It’s definitely a bumpy ride. You go over bumpy “logs,” steep inclines and more. And be prepared to lean over. The Wranger rode over a steep hill and didn’t tip over. But it sure feels like it will.

It’s a lot of fun. And it doesn’t cost anything to take a ride.

Third. take a walk over to the exotic cars. Ever wanted to see a Maserati or Lamborghini up close. I know, these are definitely out-of-reach dream cars that everyone drools over. It’s a lot of to dream, though.

There’s a huge section of exotic cars, so take your time and browse.

Fourth, check out the Corvette Z06 pre-production car that product specialist Sean Bennett said “gives a foreign performance for a domestic price.”

“It’s in a league of it’s own. It’s an argument-ending car,” he added.

But don’t go running to purchase this car yet. It starts at $78,000. That’s still nothing to sneeze at.

Finally, check out the classic cars section.

There’s the 1929 DuPont Le Mans Speedster, the 1970 Plymouth Superbird and the 1954 Austin-Healy. People love looking at classic cars, and there are tons to see here.

You can’t sit in these cars, but you can get pretty close.

Philadelphia Auto Show tickets are $13 for adults, $6 for seniors and children, children 6 and under are free. The show runs from Jan. 31 through Feb. 8. For more information, visit www.phillyautoshow.com .

Philadelphia Auto Show gets in gear with Black Tie Tailgate

Friday, January 30, 2015

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) —

Dressed to the nines, people filed into the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the 2015 Philadelphia Auto Show Black Tie Tailgate.

Friday night it was all about the kids. Proceeds from the tailgate benefit the neonatology division at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

This year’s tailgate has raised more than $425,000.

“This is mostly research money. We’re hiring research people, we’re doing pulmonary research and airway research and neurology research,” said Dr. William Fox, CHOP Neonatology.

Glamour, glitz, fast cars, food and dancing – kicked off the nine day event where people can roam 700,000 square feet filled with automobiles from 40 manufacturers here in Philadelphia.

6abc is a proud sponsor of the event.

“The economic impact of this show on the region is over $40 million. Every year it grows,” said John McNichol, CEO of Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Whatever your pleasure from the exotic to the conventional.

“Pretty much all the new models,” said Jenna Manzione.

You can touch and even sit inside.

“I love it. It’s really cool,” said Lori Nolan.

“They use this as a spring board to go out and buy a car. It’s a really great way to come down and see cars – there’s no hassles, there’s no salesmen on top of you,” said McNichol.

Consumers use the auto show to look for new trends. Expect this year’s choices to reflect low gas prices.
