Why Not Try Another Company First?

  • We often get cases from other recovery companies after they failed to recover the data. (In many cases, we get the data, but the chance of a successful recovery decreases significantly after the first attempt.)
  • Other companies put a time limit on your case of only a few hours; they do not invest more than the allocated amount of time before they call it unsuccessful.
  • In many cases time is critical. Valuable time is wasted when a less professional company attempts a recovery.
  • The first attempt at a recovery has the highest chance of being successful.

Should You Use Windows Server Backup? #windows #server #backup, #windows #server, #backup #and #recovery, #windows #client, #windows #server #2008, #systems #management

Should You Use Windows Server Backup?

Executive Summary: Windows Server Backup, the Windows Server 2008 replacement for the built-in Windows NTBackup backup and restore utility, has some differences that IT administrators might find annoying. Learn how you can work with Windows Server Backup s limitations and whether you might need a more full-featured backup and restore solution for your Windows servers.

We ve often been reminded by Microsoft that NTBackup included with Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 wasn t intended as a full-featured, enterprise-level backup solution. Nevertheless, many of us would use it that way in a pinch. Since Windows Server 2008 s release, however, we can t get away with using Windows new built-in backup tool for large-scale, enterprise backups as easily we could with NTBackup. That s because Windows Server Backup, the Server 2008 replacement for NTBackup, functions much differently from NTBackup. I ll take you through some of the annoying differences between NTBackup and Windows Server Backup, tell you how you can sometimes work around those annoyances, and explain why you might need to consider a more fully featured backup solution.

Annoyance #1

Windows Server Backup Isn t Installed By Default. Unlike NTBackup, which was installed by default on Windows 2003 and Windows 2000, Windows Server Backup isn t installed by default on Server 2008. To use Windows Server Backup, you need to use the Add Features wizard, which lets you install Windows Server Backup, and the wbadmin.exe command-line utility, which you use to back up Server Core computers.

The lack of default backup software can be very annoying in certain circumstances. Say you ve been called in to look at a server that s behaving erratically, only to find that it has never been backed up and that you can t install any new software. I like to back up a server before I do more invasive mucking about, and not having backup software installed by default can make investigating a server problem more of a challenge. I ve found that companies especially small businesses often don t consider backups until problems occur.

The only way to avoid the problem of getting caught without Server 2008 s backup software installed is to install the Windows Server Backup and wbadmin.exe features when you deploy Server 2008. Unfortunately, you re still likely to get called to look at servers that have never been backed up and probably don t have Windows Server Backup installed. It s a pity there s no warning on Server 2008 that asks you to regularly back up the server in the same way that it nags you about configuring automatic updates. With such a warning, only the most recalcitrant administrators would fail to ensure that their data was safely backed up.

Annoyance #2

No Tape Drive Support . One of the most surprising facts about Windows Server Backup is that it doesn t support tape drives. You didn t misread that: Windows Server Backup and the wbadmin.exe command-line utility can t be used to write backups to tape. There s at least one perfectly good reason why that s the case: Tape drives are going the way of the floppy disk. Not only can today s hard drives store insane amounts of data, they re also significantly faster than tapes during the backup and restoration process. However, most IT shops have an existing backup tape infrastructure, and good tape drives never came cheap. Going to Server 2008 might mean that expensive tape drive starts collecting dust.

If you re migrating from a previous version of Windows to Server 2008, you might have to decide to ditch the legacy hardware and purchase some removable hard drives or perhaps go with another vendor s backup solution. You ll also need to devise a plan for recovering data stored on tapes once you fully migrate to Server 2008. Although Windows Server Backup doesn t let you import backups made with NTBackup, and you can t use NTBackup to restore backups made with Windows Server Backup, Microsoft provides a restore-only version of NTBackup at This version of NTBackup can read from tape drives, but can t write to them. You can extract your existing backup data from the tapes, but you won t be able to use the tapes anymore after that. To use the Server 2008 restore-only version of NTBackup with a tape drive, you need the correct Server 2008 driver for that tape drive. Because Windows Server Backup doesn t support tape drives, some tape drive manufacturers are reluctant to support Server 2008.

Annoyance #3

A Dedicated Disk Is Required for Scheduled Backups. Windows Server Backup requires a dedicated disk (not just a partition) to store scheduled backups. When you run your first backup to the new disk, the disk is repartitioned and formatted. You won t be able to use it for anything other than storing backup data, and you can t view it in Windows Explorer. You can have Windows Server Backup write data to an internal hard drive or to a USB 2.0 or IEEE 1394 compatible disk. Microsoft recommends that your disk be roughly two and a half times larger than the amount of data you d write in a full backup, and the smallest amount you can back up is an entire volume. The default Windows Server Backup settings involve a full backup followed by incremental backups. Windows Server Backup manages data so that the oldest backup is automatically removed when the disk begins to run out of space. The idea behind this approach is that you can set up and schedule your backup, then forget about it until it s time to perform a restore.

This method is pretty good for a bare-bones backup solution, but if you re used to the configurability of NTBackup, it can be a bit annoying. You can perform a one-off backup to a network location or optical media, but you can t schedule backups to these locations. Clever administrators might write a script called by a scheduled task that uses wbadmin.exe to write a backup, but you won t be informed if the target location has enough space for the backup to finish successfully. Going outside the parameters of what you can accomplish with scheduled backups is one of those you can do it, but you probably shouldn t make a habit of it things that systems administrators are always being warned about.

Requiring a dedicated disk also makes the practice of rotating backups to offsite locations more challenging. Many organizations take one set of backups offsite each week, enabling data recovery in the event that the building burns to the ground, is flooded, or is hit by a meteor. Windows Server Backup works on the philosophy that the backup volume is tethered to the server and will probably not be rotated offsite. If disaster recovery is a concern, you need to look at a more full-featured solution.

Annoyance #4

The Volume Is the Minimum Backup Selection . Unlike NTBackup, which lets you select individual files and folders to back up, the smallest item that you can back up using Windows Server Backup is an entire volume. This limitation exists because Windows Server Backup uses a full disk image rather than just writing files and folders to a location and compressing them into a binary blob. You can still restore individual files and folders, however.

One thing that surprises many admins is that Windows Server Backup can t perform a system-state only backup. It s possible to perform a system-state only backup using the wbadmin.exe command start systemstatebackup, but some admins aren t comfortable using the command-line environment to complete what should be a relatively straightforward task.

Why Use Windows Server Backup?

Windows Server Backup works best if you remember that it isn t designed to be an enterprise-level backup solution. Many administrators find this limitation annoying because that s essentially how they ve been using NTBackup for much of the past decade. If you take it for what it is the WordPad of backup programs you ll find that what it actually does do, it does quite well. If you use Windows Server Backup to schedule a regular backup to a removable disk or an internal hard disk, it s very simple to perform a complete restore of the entire Windows OS. You wouldn t use Windows Server Backup to back up your Exchange Server or SQL Server systems, but you probably didn t use NTBackup to do so, either.

Tummy Tuck Surgery (Abdominoplasty): Procedure, Preparation, and Recovery #tummy #tuck, #abdominoplasty, #liposuction, #muscles, #abdomen, #incision, #anesthesia, #plastic #surgery, #cosmetic #surgery, #recovery, #consultation, #surgeon, #insurance #

Tummy Tuck

Are sit-ups not giving you the taut tummy you want? If you’ve got too much flab or excess skin in your abdomen that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. you may be considering a “tummy tuck ,” which doctors call “abdominoplasty.”

This surgery flattens the abdomen by removing extra fat and skin, and tightening muscles in your abdominal wall.

It’s not the same as liposuction. although you may choose to get liposuction along with a tummy tuck.

This is a major surgery, so if you’re considering it, you should know the facts before you decide whether to go forward.

Who Are the Best Candidates For a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is suitable for men and women who are in good health.

Women who have had several pregnancies may find the procedure useful for tightening their abdominal muscles and reducing skin.

A tummy tuck is also an option for men or women who were once obese and still have excess fat deposits or loose skin around the belly.

Who Should Not Consider a Tummy Tuck?

If you’re a woman who plans to get pregnant. then you may want to postpone a tummy tuck until you’re done having children. During surgery, your vertical muscles are tightened, and future pregnancies can separate those muscles.

Are you planning to lose a lot of weight. Then a tummy tuck also is not for you. A tummy tuck should be a last resort after you’ve tried everything else. It should not be used as an alternative to weight loss .

You should also consider the appearance of scars after a tummy tuck. You can talk about scar placement and length with the doctor before the surgery.

How to Prepare for Tummy Tuck Surgery

The first step is to choose a surgeon and see him or her for a consultation. At that meeting, you’ll talk about your goals and the following options:

  • Complete abdominoplasty. The surgeon will cut your abdomen from hipbone to hipbone and then contour the skin, tissue, and muscle as needed. The surgery will involve moving your belly button, and you may need drainage tubes under your skin for a few days.
  • Partial or mini abdominoplasty. Mini-abdominoplasties are often done on people whose fat deposits are located below the navel. During this procedure, the surgeon most likely will not move your belly button, and the procedure may only take up to two hours, depending on your case.

If you smoke, your doctor will ask that you quit smoking from at least two weeks before the surgery until two weeks after the surgery. It is not enough to just cut down on smoking. You must stop completely since smoking makes complications more likely and slows healing.

Don’t try a drastic diet before the surgery. Eat well-balanced, complete meals. A healthy diet may help you heal better.

Tell your doctor about everything you take, including prescription drugs. herbal medicines. and other supplements. Your surgeon may instruct you to stop taking certain medications for a time before and after the surgery.

Before getting the surgery, get your home ready. You’ll need:

  • Ice packs
  • Loose, comfortable clothing that can be put on and off very easily
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Hand-held shower head and bathroom chair

You’ll also need someone to drive you home after the tummy tuck. If you live alone, you’ll want someone to stay with you for at least the first night. Make a plan for that.

How a Tummy Tuck Is Done

This surgery can take anywhere from one to five hours. You may need to stay overnight in the hospital, depending on your case.

You will get general anesthesia, which will put you to “sleep ” during the operation.

Possible Complications

You will have pain and swelling in the days following surgery. Your doctor will prescribe pain medicine and tell you how to best handle the pain. You may be sore for several weeks or months.

You may also experience numbness, bruising, and tiredness during that time.

As with any surgery, there are risks. Though they’re rare, complications can include infection, bleeding under the skin flap, or blood clots. You may be more likely to have complications if you have poor circulation, diabetes. or heart. lung. or liver disease.

You may experience insufficient healing, which can cause more significant scarring or loss of skin. If you do heal poorly, you may require a second surgery.

A tummy tuck leaves scars. Though they may fade slightly, they will never completely disappear. Your surgeon may recommend certain creams or ointments to use after you’ve completely healed to help with scars.

Taking Care of Yourself After Surgery

Whether you’re having a partial or complete tummy tuck, the area that’s operated on will be stitched and bandaged. It’s very important to follow all your surgeon’s instructions on how to care for the bandage in the days following surgery. The bandage used will be a firm, elastic band that promotes proper healing. Your surgeon will also instruct you on how to best position yourself while sitting or lying down to help ease pain.

You will have to severely limit strenuous activity for at least six weeks. You may need to take up to one month off work after the surgery to ensure proper recovery. Your doctor will advise you on what you need to do or not do.

Returning to Daily Life

Generally, most people love how they look after this procedure. That can take time, though. You may not feel like your normal self for months after the surgery.

Diet and exercise can help you maintain the results.

Does Insurance Cover a Tummy Tuck?

Insurance companies generally do not cover cosmetic surgery that’s done without a medical reason. Yours might if you have a hernia that will be corrected through the procedure.

Before you decide whether to get a tummy tuck, contact your insurance company so you’re clear on what’s covered and what’s not. If you think you can make a case that you need the procedure for medical reasons, your surgeon may be able to help you by writing a letter to your insurer.

Your One-Stop Resource For Liver Health – Liver Supplements #liver #damage #recovery

About Your Liver

You rely on your liver for over 500 essential functions. Below are just a few of the more important functions that this vital organ performs:

Aids Your Digestive System

Your liver processes everything you eat and breathe. It produces and regulates the flow of bile, which enables you to digest and absorb fats and vitamins, as well as enzymes, hormones, immune factors, and cholesterol. Almost everything you ingest, from the air you breathe and the food you eat to the lotions you put on our skin, is processed by your liver.

  • Produces Useful Substances

Your liver manufactures a variety of important proteins, enzymes, hormones and immune factors that you need in order to survive.

  • Cleanses and Detoxifies

It cleans your blood and removes toxins as well as a wide assortment of items that are harmful to your body.

  • Stores and Replenishes

Acts as storage center, storing important substances such as iron, vitamins, minerals and glycogen until they are needed. When you blood sugar levels drop and your body requires energy quickly, your liver converts the stored glycogen into glucose and releases it into your blood, so it can flow to where it is needed most.

  • With such important roles to play, it is absolutely critical to keep your liver healthy and functioning at maximum capacity. Even if you’re healthy, there are still ways that you can improve your liver function so you can live a longer, happier, and healthier life.

Using the mouse: Right-click the cell and select the number or parity from the shortcut menu. If the block table is too large, you better use the keyboard to enter the digits.
Corrections: R-Studio will indicate if some digits are not correct by marking the cell with the red color Navigate to the required cell and enter the correct value. Use the Delete key to clear a cell.
Clear the table: Right-click the table and select Clear all on the shortcut menu.

As soon as R-Studio detects a valid file system, a new Partition 1 object will appear on the Drive pane. We may process this partition as a real object.

Let s enumerate the files on that partition. Just double-click it and see the folders/files structure on the virtual RAID 5.

We can check that we constructed the RAID 5 correctly. Just double-click a graphic file, and R-Studio will show its preview.

You may also create your own RAID configurations using a description file for RAID configurations. See R-Studio on-line help: Syntax of a Description File for RAID Configurations for details.

Comcast Adds Disaster Recovery Options With ColoHouse

Partnership With Company s Miami Data Center to Help Provide Redundant, Reliable Power and Critical Backup to Customers During Hurricane Season

SUNRISE, FL (Marketwire Jul 19, 2011) Comcast Business Services Florida East Coast Region is launching a partnership with ColoHouse to provide customers with additional options for reliable, redundant power and data center services. The partnership with Colohouse s major Miami data center helps provide customers with the continuation of Internet and telecommunications connectivity in the event of power loss. This service is extremely important in South Florida due to the need for disaster recovery and business continuity during the hurricane season.

During the hurricane season, the daily operations and profitability of many businesses in South Florida can be greatly affected by severe weather, said Comcast s Vice President of Business Services for the Florida East Coast Region, Steven Schmitz. This partnership with ColoHouse provides Comcast business customers additional power options to help protect their network-based operations during a major storm.

ColoHouse s Data Center is a 24,000 square foot facility located outside FEMA s 500 year flood zone and is able to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. It s a carrier neutral operation that is utilized by many major global carriers.

The partnership will allow customers to connect with Comcast facilities at the ColoHouse Miami Data Center to establish backup services in case of a power loss for any reason. This service extends disaster recovery services to any sized business.

This is another example of how Comcast is revolutionizing business services in Miami by providing services that used to be obtainable only by larger companies, said Schmitz.

Whether it s redundant power and cooling systems, modern equipment or special hurricane-rated facilities, we can offer new innovations and reliability to help ensure disaster recovery and business continuity, said Richard E. Duman, Vice President of Sales Engineering for ColoHouse. Marijuana and Addiction

Marijuana (also known as Weed or Pot) is the most frequently abused (mostly) illegal drug in the US, and makes up 17% of admissions to treatment programs [1].

Treatment is often sought because the long-term use of marijuana can lead to addiction, and individuals looking to quit have to deal with challenging withdrawal symptoms that can keep them from stopping their marijuana abuse.

Statistics show that about 7 percent, or roughly 1 in 14 teens, report using marijuana in the past month. [3]

    Is marijuana addictive?

Abuse of any substance – including marijuana – is when the user begins seeking the substance compulsively and continues use though there have been harmful effects to their lives, including problems with family, school, work or the legal system. Research has shown that about 9% of all marijuana users [2] become addicted and that those who start early and who are daily users are more susceptible to marijuana addiction.

What happens when you try to quit smoking pot and you’re addicted?

Pot smokers who are classified as marijuana abusers frequently report that they have withdrawal symptoms that include sleeplessness, no appetite, anxiety, cravings to use, and irritability. While any of these can make quitting difficult, the combination of several symptoms can make it difficult to stay on the road to recovery. This is where SMART Recovery can help.

How do I stop smoking marijuana?

SMART provides our members with tools and skills that they can use to help them recover from marijuana addiction as well as alcohol, or other drugs or negative behaviors. SMART Recovery, which can be used as a support group alternative to Marijuana Anonymous (MA), uses a 4-Point Program , with each element designed to help you overcome your problems with abusing marijuana:

Building Maintaining Motivation – Helps you identify and keep up with your reasons to quit. Why do you want to quit smoking pot – what will keep you focused on that goal?

Coping with Urges – Dealing with urges and cravings is part of recovery. SMART has tools designed to help our members cope with urges to use or smoke pot that can help you maintain abstinence.

Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors – We frequently turn to using drugs to either escape from or avoid solving our problems. SMART’s members learn problem-solving tools to help them manage challenges along the way.

Lifestyle Balance – When you are addicted to, or abuse a drug like marijuana, your life frequently falls out of balance – you may find yourself opting to smoke pot rather than go to work or school. You may find that things you used to enjoy aren’t fun anymore. SMART Recovery helps members build skills to help balance both short and long-term goals, pleasures and needs that were once out of balance due to drug abuse.
