LONDON (ShareCast) – (ShareCast News) – European stocks rose, with autos and basic resources lending support on what is likely to remain a fairly quiet session as US markets will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. At midday, the benchmark Stoxx Europe 600 index was up 0.8%, Germany’s DAX was 1.4% higher and France’s CAC 40 was up 1%.

The Stoxx 600 autos and parts index – to which the DAX is heavily exposed – was 2.8% firmer.

“We are seeing a massive short-squeeze at the moment, the DAX has broken several important resistance levels and closed an important gap, all of this is generating buy signals and forcing shorts to cover their position,” said Markus Huber, senior analyst at Peregrine & Black .

“Below average trading volume today due to Thanksgiving in the US is exacerbating the move and finally many consider car makers who are leading the charge in the DAX today, like BMW (Swiss: BMW.SW – news ) and Daimler (Xetra: 710000 – news ) still as cheap and undervalued, consequently anybody who wants to make sure they are involved in any potential year-end rally in December prefer these stocks as they offer not only good value but also limited risk for now.” Meanwhile, the sub-index for basic resources rallied 1.2% as base metals recovered.

Sentiment was also being underpinned by reports on Wednesday that Eurozone central bank officials were considering options such as staggering charges on banks hoarding cash or buying more debt ahead of the next European Central Bank meeting.

On the corporate front, German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies (Other OTC: IFNNY – news ) rocketed after it said net profit in the quarter ended September rose 80%.

Daily Mail & General Trust bounced back from heavy falls in the previous session on the back of gloomy guidance. The stock was helped along by a rating upgrade from Societe Generale (Swiss: 519928.SW – news ) and news that it will net £29m from the sale of its online discount business, Wowcher .

Severn Trent (Other OTC: STRNY – news ) was also on the front foot after the water utility posted a 2.6% rise in first half profit.

Supermarket chain Tesco (Xetra: 852647 – news ) was higher after saying it has paid $12m to settle one of two class action lawsuits brought by disgruntled US investors who sued over the overstatement of the grocer’s 2014 first-half profits.

On the downside. Remy Cointreau (Swiss: RCO.SW – news ) slumped after the French spirits company reported a 7% drop in first half like-for-like operating profit.

BHP Billiton (NYSE: BBL – news ) was under pressure after it rejected claims from the United Nations that waste from the tailings burst at the Samarco mine in Brazil was toxic.

  • Matching-numbers with Northern California ownership history
  • Rust-free, restored example with renewed components from marque specialists
  • Striking original color combination and desirable specification

  • Offered at $95,000 USD

Porsche has applied the exercise of evolution to its sports cars for as long as they ve existed. From the beginning their automobiles have appreciated incremental improvements with every new variant. Their 911 range provides one of the greatest examples of this pattern, and by the 1969 model year their rear-engined platform was receiving its first of many major generational improvements.

Criticized for its rear-engined handling characteristics, an effort was made to help alleviate some of its tail-happy tendencies. Some of the improvements included, among other things, lengthening the wheelbase by 2.4 inches and helping balance the tail-heavy weight distribution by placing an additional battery up front.

The 1969 Porsche 911 E offered for sale here is a brightly colored variety of one of these important 911s. This car comes from a Sports Car Digest reader and official member of the famous hot rod 911 community, R-Gruppe. Unlike many of the hot rod 911s you now see, though, this 911 retains many of its crucial, original details like engine, transaxle and bodywork. Continue reading

Honda. The name is attached to such a wide variety of products that it s really easier to ask what aren’t they associated with, than what they are. As a powerhouse in the motorcycle and power equipment world, they happen to be more than just a player in the aviation and marine industry. Oh yeah, and you might recognize a few cars they’ve made, too.

The “Genesis” for Honda automobiles was its T360, a tiny truck built only for their home market of Japan. Later that same year in 1963, the public would have the chance to get their hands on Honda’s first production car, the exciting and high revving S500 roadster. With 4-wheel independent suspension, four carburetors, a chain-driven driveline and a 9,500 rpm rev limit, the S500 was a lot like nothing.

Honda’s first sports car was eventually offered with larger displacement in coupe and roadster form, and represents some of the innovative thinking from Soichiro Honda. The direction that Mr. Honda was interested in taking after this point involved air-cooled power plants, as he would later display with their air-cooled, RA302 Formula 1 car in 1968. With the use of air/oil-cooled engines already popular with European automakers at the time, it seemed like a logical move simple engineering using fewer parts, smaller packaging and an emphasis on weight savings.

The first and only mass-produced cars to benefit from Soichiro Honda’s air-cooled philosophy was the new range of “Kei” cars. Designed to fit within the home-market tax legislation, the initial N360 model fit neatly within required 360 cubic centimeters of engine displacement and did not exceed the maximum length of ten feet. To call the N360 a success would be a major understatement, as it would go onto become the best-selling Kei car of Japan, and would enjoy success abroad, with a N600 model produced to satisfy a market the demanded higher top speeds. While not the commercial success that the later Civic was, the N600 represents Honda s humble beginnings in what is now their biggest market. Continue reading

Federated Auto Parts 400 Travel Package

One of the most important races on the NASCAR schedule is the Federated Auto Parts 400 (formerly Chevy Rock and Roll 400) at Richmond International Raceway. As you might expect with a name like that, this is the final race before the Chase for the Sprint Cup and the last chance for drivers to earn points and become part of that select group of 12 drivers. Whether you want to call it a Federated Auto Parts 400 travel package or a Chevy Rock and Roll 400 travel package, SportsTravel.com is ready to send you to Richmond to see all the action.

The roots of this race go all the way back to 1958, when it was known as the Richmond 200. Speedy Thompson took that first running with a not-so-speedy average speed of 57 mph and he earned a whopping 800 for his efforts. Of course things have changed since then and this year s winner will get about 250,000 and the average speed will be well over 100 mph on the ¾ mile short track.

Our One Last Race to Make the Chase travel packages include race tickets, hotel accommodations in downtown Richmond, roundtrip transportation to the track and the option of adding Nationwide Series race tickets. Even though Richmond has a seating capacity of nearly 100,000, it was quite common for Federated Auto Parts 400 tickets to sell out so it would be no surprise at all to see that happen now that fans will be asking for One Last Race to Make the Chase tickets. But if you get one of our NASCAR travel packages, then you ll never have to worry about finding race tickets on your own.

If you want to see the other race at Richmond International Raceway, the Richmond 400 (also known as the Crown Royal 400 or Crown Royal Presents The Your Name Here 400), then we have a package for you. In fact, we have packages for every NASCAR race, including the biggest one of them all, the Daytona 500 .
