PaaS Providers List: Comparison And Guide

Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a cloud model designed for software developers that streamlines the development process by shifting specific aspects of systems management to the service provider. PaaS is used to develop web and mobile applications using components that are pre-configured and maintained by the service provider, including programming languages, application servers and databases.

When evaluating and choosing a PaaS provider, you should take into consideration the programming languages and server side technologies the vendor offers along with the data storage options. Support for developer tools and applications integration is also very important as you need to consider how your application in the PaaS will integrate with other applications. Finally, consider the costs of running your applications in a PaaS and evaluate how the pricing model of the vendor you choose works.

We help you get started by summarizing these key considerations of several PaaS providers. Although this is not a comprehensive list, the vendors represent a sample of the different types of PaaS offerings that are available today. As you’ll notice, some providers are blurring the lines between Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and PaaS while others offer more specific platforms. And many offer a free trial so you can see if the platform is right for your development needs.

Engine Yard is designed for web application developers using Ruby on Rails, PHP and Node.js who want to take advantage of cloud computing without the operations management responsibility. Engine Yard provides a set of services on top of Amazon AWS. In fact, Engine Yard runs its platform in the Amazon cloud, so the value of the PaaS rests more with orchestration and management than with providing software components. Engine Yard takes care of key operations tasks such as performing backups, managing snapshots, managing clusters, administering databases and load balancing.

Dedicated instances with no multi-tenancy at the virtual machine level. More control over your virtual machine instances than other PaaS providers. Integration with both public and private Git repositories.

Supported languages are limited to Ruby, JRuby, REE, Rubiniu, Node.js, and PHP.

Based on a “pay as you go” model with standard and premium support options. Prices range from $0.05/hour per instance to $2.19/hour per instance, depending on your configuration.

Red Hat OpenShift is based on open source applications and offers a wide variety of languages, databases and components. The PaaS is highly customizable and offered in three forms: OpenShift Online (a cloud-based hosting service), OpenShift Enterprise (a private PaaS that runs in your data center) and OpenShift Origin (the open source application hosting platform). OpenShift automates system administration tasks such as virtual server provisioning, configuration and scaling and supports git repositories for code management.

A large number of component options spanning the application stack from front end to backend services. Developers can interface with OpenShift through a web console, the command line or through an integrated development environment.

Works well with Git, but non-Git deployments might require additional steps.

OpenShift Online pricing is based on the number and types of components (called gears) you deploy. Gear prices range from $0.02/hour to $0.10/hour, depending on the size: 512MB (small), 1GB (medium), or 2GB (large). The Silver support plan is $20/month plus usage costs.

A limited number of resources are available as a trial; 3 small gears and 1GB of storage per gear are free.

Google App Engine is designed for distributed web applications and developers using Java, Python, PHP and Go. The Java environment supports other languages that make use of the JRE and there is a SDK for each of the four main supported languages as well as a plugin for Eclipse. The PaaS offers managed infrastructure and runtime environments that are guaranteed to scale, but only if the applications fit the restrictions of Google App Engine. The Datastore, a transactional, schema-less data store based on key-value pairs, handles the complex management of data that’s accessible to multiple machine instances.

Google App Engine uses a sandbox model which isolates processes thereby reducing the risk that a rogue process on a physical server will disrupt operations of other processes on that server.

Programming languages are limited to Java, Python, Go and PHP.

Based on usage. $0.08/hour per on-demand instance or $0.05/hour for a reserved instance. The Datastore is billed at $0.18/GB per month; bandwidth costs $0.12/GB. Other service costs may apply.

The first 28 instance hours, 1GB of storage and 1GB of inbound/outbound traffic per application are free each day.

Heroku supports Ruby, Python, Java, Scala, Cloture and Node.js. The platform provides abstract computing environments called dynos, which are virtualized Unix-style containers that run processes in isolated environments. Dynos are broadly typed as either web dynos (respond to HTTP requests) or worker dynos (respond to task requests in a queue). Heroku works best with applications that fit well into the Twelve Factor App methodology. Third party applications, called addons, are also available as services within the Heroku platform.

One of the early Pass providers, Heroku is ideal for quick deployments and fits a wide range of distributed applications.

Cost of addons vary and estimating costs can be challenging as the number of addons increase and loads vary across application components.

Based on the number and size of dynos deployed ($0.05/hour – $0.10/hour), the size of the Postgres database and addons used.

What Can You Do With a Music Degree? 70+ Careers Salaries Revealed

What can you do with a masters in public administration

The opportunities for a musician to succeed are so much larger than meets the eye.

It is true that orchestral/ensemble/solo performance as well as teaching are the two most popular careers in music.

While these career paths can be exceptionally rewarding to those who are passionate about the vocations of teaching and performing, the reality is that there are many, many more options that are available to those who have a music degree.

In fact, whether you can believe it or not, there are over 70+ exceptional and yes, lucrative careers you can pursue with a music degree.

That’s right over 70(!) careers are available to those with a music degree. I bet you never knew that.

It’s true that some of these careers might require functional knowledge outside of the core requirements of your music degree and possibly even require a specialized degree. For example, if you want to get a job as a grant writer for a music organization, working as an intern at a non-profit arts organization could provide you with the necessary skills for learning how to write grants. Also, taking a grant-writing class at your university could assist tremendously.

So let’s get into it. Here are 70+ careers, listed alphabetically, that are available for musicians who have successfully graduated with a music degree.

The Careers Salaries, Listed Alphabetically

A R Administrator

Provides high-level personal and administrative support to an A R (Artists Repertoire) Representative.

A R Representative

Scouts talent for record labels to sign to recording contracts.

Accompanist

  • Salary: Varies tremendously based on a number of factors. Many chamber music groups make money in academic residencies, performing various gigs and weddings, merchandising their brand, selling cds, etc.

    Denver free public auto auctions

Denver free public auto auctions is the place to pick up your dream car from amongst the used car auction sale of cheap cars. Vehicles at this auction are sourced from various other government auctions and you can get a select choice of cars here which would be your neighbor s envy. Some of the latest models are available at really cheap prices among the repo cars which have been sourced from various other repo auctions. Take your pick of the best and get a real bargain deal and make a killer profit here.

    Benefits of repo vehicles

Repo vehicles have been confiscated from owners who have not paid their dues on the loans they have availed of for buying their car. Once this happens the law steps in and seizes the vehicle and puts it up for sale on behalf of the bank or any other financial institution from where the owner has procured the loan. This is doe so that at least part of the existing loan can be salvaged for the bank by selling the vehicle. As the legal department of the country does not have the time or the necessary infrastructure to conduct sales of vehicles and even other goods which belonged to the defaulter, they hand this responsibility over to various gov auctions and local auctions to handle.

Another important reason for doing this is that there is more exposure to the public through live auctions and there are better prospects of selling the vehicles off faster. The same holds good for online auctions too, as many more people view auctions on the internet and the chances of making a good sale are better here.

Why are vehicles cheap at auctions?

There are thousands of vehicles being seized and confiscated by the law everyday and storing and maintaining them is a problem which the government faces. In order to ensure the quick sales of these vehicles they are disposed of at cheap rates at the various auctions so that the government can save on the cost of maintenance and storage of such vehicles. As the government and the financial organizations are not really interested in making a profit on the sales but just want to recover as much of the loan money as possible the prices of these vehicles is not high but kept at less than the retail market value of the cars.

Get the history of the vehicle you have selected

You can get to know the history of the car you have short listed by going through auto check or any other similar services which will give you all the details of the car till date. You can find out if the car has been in any major mishap or has met with a bad crash and been through major repairs. You can even find out what the mileage was when it was sold from one owner to the other. Of course this is not required for repo vehicles as they are usually one owner cars, but for other salvaged cars it is better to get the history and fid out for yourself what the vehicle has been through.

PUBLIC AUTO AUCTION TIP 1- Understanding the basics .

Before buying a car at a public auto auction, it is useful to know about the public auto auction in a nutshell. A public auto auction is actually a business. The auction company is in the business of selling cars for people. They make their money by charging the seller a fee to sell the car for them and also charging the buyer a fee after making the bid.

Although this is similar to consignment, it technically is not consignment. Why? The main difference between true consignment and a public auto auction is that with true consignment, the seller sets his price and therefore knows how much money he will be getting. On the other hand, people who sell cars through public auto auctions cannot set their prices.

Where do cars come from? Despite the misleading ads, most cars that end up in public auto auctions are NOT government seizures and repos. Instead, most cars come from charitable organizations that are selling cars that were donated to them, and from businesses that need to get rid of company cars that barely run. Many cars also come from governmental agencies such as the welfare department or police department who want to sell the cars at public auto auctions because they barely run. Please note that these cars are NOT government seizures; they are cars that government agencies use for transportation, just like any business that uses company cars!

After the sellers register cars through the public auto auction, the auction conducts an auction and sells the cars to bidders. The bidders are YOU! When you pay for your car, the auction takes an auction fee from you (usually 10-15% of bidding price) and also takes a percentage from the seller. Then the auction sends the seller a check!

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when going to a public auto auction is to not know exactly what cars are worth. Why? Obviously, by not knowing how much a certain car is worth, you will be more likely to bid too high. Ironically, many people who bid at public auto auctions bid higher than what they could have bought a car for in classified bargain ads.

Before even thinking about bidding on a car at a public auto auction, do your homework. First, know what a car is worth wholesale. You can do this by buying a Kelly Blue Book, or even accessing various online sources such as the Kelly Blue Book Trade-In values homepage or Edmunds . By knowing what a certain car sells for at wholesale, you will know not to bid too much above that price.

Don’t forget that whatever wholesale figure you come up with doesn’t factor in the mileage! You might be thinking a certain bid is a good price at an auction without taking into consideration the high mileage, which is a guaranteed way to get burned.

Also know what a certain car sells for at retail. You can get the retail price from Kelly Blue Book, but Kelly Blue Book retail prices are intentionally over-inflated in favor of dealers who are the main subscribers to Blue Books! Therefore, the best thing to do is to actually buy a bargain classified, such as an Auto Trader and bring it to the public auction with you. Look at similar cars and come up with an average figure in your head as to what a certain car can sell for.

By knowing the wholesale price and the retail price, you will be armed with the knowledge which will hopefully prevent you from bidding too high at the auction and getting burned on a lemon.

In case you’re wondering, YES you have to do such research on ALL the cars you will potentially be bidding on. That means if you did your research on Honda Civics, but you didn’t do research on Nissan Sentras, you deserve to get burned if you get excited and bid on a Nissan Sentra at the auto auction.

PUBLIC AUTO AUCTION TIP 3- Know a little about cars .

It always humors me when people bid on cars at public auto auctions without having even looked under the hood! There is absolutely no excuse for bidding on a car without inspecting it for one simple reason. 95% of cars at public auto auctions are JUNK! That’s right. People don’t sell cars through public auto auctions because they run well. Most people sell cars through public auto auctions because they want to get rid of a problem car. Here are some basics on inspecting cars at public auto auctions:

    CHECK THE OIL:

If it looks black like tar, the engine is probably good but the owner had a bad history of maintaining the car. If the oil is a clear tan, the oil is normal. If the oil is milky brown, the head gasket is blown. (public auto auctions are notorious for selling cars with blown engines)

    ALWAYS START THE CAR:

Make sure the car starts without hesitation. There is nothing worse than being stranded at an auto auction.

    CHECK THE TRANSMISSION:

If automatic transmission, make sure it shifts from drive to reverse and visa versa smoothly without delay. If manual, it should go into all gears without grinding, and the clutch should engage about 3/4 of the pedal height up. Some public auction employees go nuts when they see you do this. Just ignore them.

    CHECK THE IDLE:

If the idle speed is high and doesn’t go down, don’t bid on it. If the idle speed is normal, make sure it idles smoothly. Many cars at auto auctions will not pass smog.

    CHECK FOR SMOKING:

If there is excessive exhaust smoke, it’s a sign of a bad engine. This is common sense at an auto auction.

CHECK FOR OLD TAGS OR OUT OF STATE PLATES:

Old registration more than a year back can be very expensive. This is very easy to overlook at an auto auction.

    CHECK THE OBVIOUS:

This includes all the little things that aren’t major, but can still cost you money and headaches. For example, check the brakes, a/c if the car has air, check for body damage, make sure all doors open and close easily and make sure all the lights and blinkers work.

I’ve covered all the major things to look for when inspecting a car at a public auto auction, but above all else. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE OR YOU WILL GET BURNED! If you have a bad feeling on a car, simply do not bid on it.

If you are not one of the first few people to purchase a car at a public auto auction, expect to wait in very long lines. The first long line is usually when you are at the public auto auction early in the morning inspecting cars. Most auctions make you wait in line in order to obtain keys to start the cars.

The second long line you have to wait in is the line to pay for the car after you bid on it and win the bid. This line is the most frustrating line to be in. After you bid on the car and win the bid, all you’re thinking about is getting to your car and driving it home. The last thing you want to do is wait in a long auto auction line with a fat wad of money in your pocket.

PUBLIC AUTO AUCTION TIP 5- Expect to get your ears blasted out .

One of the most annoying things about a public auto auction is the ridiculous volume level of the speakers, which are turned up louder than jet engines. Be smart and bring some ear plugs or you’ll be sorry in a few years when you have to say Huh? every time somebody says something to you.

PUBLIC AUTO AUCTION TIP 6- Arrive early .

Arriving early ensures 2 important things. First, that you will get a parking spot and; second, that you will have plenty of time before the auction starts to inspect the cars that you will be bidding on. Remember the golden rule: NEVER bid on a car that you haven’t inspected or you deserve to get burned!

PUBLIC AUTO AUCTION TIP 7- Buying and selling tips and tricks.

Have you thought about buying a car at an auction in order to re-sell it to make a profit? If you have, you’re not alone. Nearly half of public auto auction bidders are thinking the same thing!

There are 3 problems with buying cars at public auto auctions to try to make money. First, inexperienced bidders drive the prices up to ridiculous prices, which cuts into your profit. Second, the auction charges an equally ridiculous fee. Third, the auction takes your personal information so the state can keep track of who the buyer of the car is. Unfortunately, all states have limits on how many cars you can transfer in and out of your name per year.

PUBLIC AUTO AUCTION TIP 8 – For the serious buyers and sellers .

If you like the idea of buying a car and re-selling it to make money, but want to take it a bit more serious where the big money is at, consider getting a state dealer license. It’s easier than most people think and having a state license entitles you to benefits that only licensed dealers receive, such as attending exclusive private auctions for dealers only, where all cars do actually sell for below wholesale. A dealer license also gives you access to many new-car dealerships, where you put in closed bids for their trade-ins that they wholesale. There are many other benefits to having a dealer license. If you are thinking about getting a dealer license, there is an excellent source. Just follow the link below!

Car Buying New Cars Used Cars Auctions Leasing Loans

    Car Auction Hammer

The best car auctions are dealer-only auctions operated by firms such as Manheim and Adesa. These auto auction companies operate wholesale vehicle auctions in major metropolitan areas across the United States and Canada.

At dealer auctions, car dealers purchase a large percentage of the cars that they sell on their used-car lots. The profits they make on these cars are often far greater than their profits on new car sales. A dealer may buy a late model automobile at auction and mark it up 50 or even 100 percent! New-car markups, on the other hand, are often 5 to 10 percent over the manufacturer invoice price.

At these efficiently run, dealer-only auctions, cosmetic and mechanical condition reports are provided for most auctioned vehicles. Dealers expect these vehicle condition reports to provide accurate, detailed, unvarnished information. They rely on these reports and the integrity of the dealer-only auction firms to make sound car buying decisions.

Unfortunately, access to a wholesale dealers’ auction is only available to licensed car dealers. Auto auctions that are open to the public may be labeled Public, Government, Insurance, or Charity auctions. Purchasing a vehicle at these auctions involves a greater degree of risk. They are often patronized by people who know cars well or have access to a low cost repair facility. At most public car auctions, attendees can walk around the vehicles, open their doors, note their odometer mileages, and open their hoods, trunks, and tailgates. In most cases, potential buyers are not permitted to drive the cars or even start their engines.

Full payment is normally required immediately after a successful bid. Vehicles are sold “as is”, sales are final, and no warranty is provided. If you insist on purchasing a car at such an auction, be sure you have the expertise to identify signs of water damage, accident damage, or poor maintenance. Ideally, bring along a trained auto mechanic or auto body expert who can spot such problems.

Use the directory menu above to find dealer-only and public auto auctions in each state of the United States and the District of Columbia.

Religious education teaching that ‘Christianity is superior’

The government is being accused of breaching the Bill of Rights Act with religious instruction in schools.

The Secular Education Network has filed a case with the Human Rights Review Tribunal. saying the Education Act allows religious favoritism in state schools, which it says is prohibited under the Bill of Rights.

Its spokesman, David Hines, a retired journalist and lay preacher, said Section 78 of the Education Act allowed a school to hold religious instruction for up to an hour a week or 20 hours a year.

But he believed all religions should be taught in an academic way – the Christian religion should not be given preferential treatment – and the impact could be damaging for other people.

“It’s a spit in the face for every other religion, it is saying that Christianity is superior,” he complained.

“It is telling the Jews that the Bible is a Christian book when the Jews have substantially the same book but put a different interpretation on it.

“It is a put down for atheists because it says you have got to believe in God to live a good life.”

David Hines has gathered 26 witnesses for his case, including 13 parents who said their children were mistreated.

One of them is Tanya Jacob, who had to pull her children out of their school in Christchurch.

“We knew there were going to be these bible classes so we thought we would just opt out,” she said.

“Over time we found that our kids were being put back in (to the class) and we found they were being told they were going to Hell.

“They were also being badgered for not believing in God.”

Joining the case along with Mrs Jacob were leaders from five religions saying their beliefs were misrepresented.

Another witness was Paul Morris, Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University.

He examined three religious instruction courses used in schools and found defects in all of them.

“They present Christianity from an evangelical perspective,” he said.

“The teachers’ guides include prayer sessions, thanking God for the Bible, thanking God for the miracles, they do not address students who come from different faith worlds.”

The Christian Education Council issued a statement defending its position.

The council, whose expressly stated aim was to equip and inspire children through values-based Christian religious education, said more than 600 schools throughout New Zealand invited in its religious instructors each week.

It said it was the largest provider of religious instruction in the country, and was passionate about its continuation in New Zealand’s state schools.

However, Mr Hines argued that the religious instruction being done by this group was not, strictly speaking, legal.

He said the Bill of Rights Act prohibited state institutions from favouring one religion over another, but the Education Act allowed exactly that.

“Those two laws are in conflict with each other,” he said.

“And we are asking the tribunal to make a ruling that the laws are inconsistent, and send a report to parliament saying they should consider changing the law.”

Mrs Jacob said she pulled her children out of school for religious instruction that should not have existed, she said.

“It’s got nothing to do with normal education,” she said.

“If you want your children to be brought up in a faith, then you take them to church or the temple or a mosque.

“That is not for school time. All our kids should be able to go to school without being made to believe in things or be harassed for not believing in things.”

The attorney general was not commenting on the upcoming hearing, nor was the Ministry of Justice, except to confirm that a case has been filed.

No date for a hearing has been set but the battle lines have been drawn, with senior lawyers, including a QC, hired for representation.

Credit report anatomy: How to read, understand reports

Sample credit report shows examples of common features

    By Fred O. Williams

You can get a free credit report. But do you know how to read and understand it? This interactive guide will help. First we’ll look at how to acquire your report, then how to read and understand it once you get it.

One free report every 12 months
Everyone is entitled by law to look at their credit report from each of the three credit bureaus once every 12 months free of charge, or you can buy a credit report from each of the three bureaus if you want to view your report more often.

The three large U.S. credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian and TransUnion — were required by a 2003 federal law to set up AnnualCreditReport.com as a central online resource for report requests. You can also request your reports by calling 877-322-8228 or by downloading a request form and mailing it to:

    Annual Credit Report Request Service
    P.O. Box 105281
    Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

Upon visiting AnnualCreditReport.com, users are directed to a form page and asked to provide personal identifying information, including name and address, Social Security number and date of birth.

After submitting your basic information, you go to a page allowing you to select reports from the three large credit bureaus by checking boxes next to the Equifax, Experian and TransUnion logos. You can select one or all of the credit bureaus. Instructions discuss whether you should review all three reports immediately, or whether you should spread the requests over a period of time.

The next step is designed to verify your identity. A page of questions appears about your creditors, loan terms or other details on the credit report that you’re expected to know. You need to select the correct answers get access to the credit report. The AnnualCredit.Report.com site is integrated with the websites of the credit bureaus, making the transition from one to the other seamless. After requesting one report, you may return to the main site to repeat the process with another credit bureau.

Many consumers have a difficult time understanding their credit reports and piecing the three reports together, so here are examples and explanations of the most common elements that appear in each of the three free credit bureau reports. Roll over the information icon () for explanations.

Personal information is identifying information about the credit report requestor. Experian and TransUnion include this information at the beginning of your credit report, while Equifax puts it at the end of its report.

A report number is generated by the three credit reporting agencies as a reference for consumers to use if they should need to contact the issuing bureau. Note this number when you need to contact Equifax, Experian or TransUnion online, by phone or by mail.

    Report date: April 4, 2015

During the AnnualCreditReport.com signup process, you can choose to have the report display your entire Social Security number or — to protect your identity — just the last four digits.

    Date of birth: 04/1965
    Telephone number(s): 917-555-1212

Check to make sure your address information is accurate.

    PREVIOUS ADDRESSES:

Only some employers will report your employment information to one or all of the credit bureaus. Don’t panic if all your employment information is not recorded on this report. You can contact the individual credit bureaus to correct misreported employment data.

Adverse accounts, or potentially negative items, are credit accounts you have opened and have been reported as either unpaid or paid after a due date during one or more months throughout the history of the credit line. Even if you are current on your payments for a credit account, it still may be included in this section of your credit report — if you had ever missed or were late on a payment. All three bureaus allow you to dispute the information in this section if you can prove an error. Adverse accounts should fall off your credit report after 7 years, but you need to be sure that they do by checking your credit reports often and reporting overheld accounts.

Portland, Oregon Public Used Car Auction allows the average person to bid next to dealers

Portland, OR (PRWEB) June 04, 2013

JJ Kane today announced its public used car and truck auction in Portland, Oregon on June 13th where over 180 used cars, trucks, SUV s, vans and pickups will be sold. Buyers do not have to be dealers to bid as this auction is open to the public with live bidding starting at 9 a.m. Thur. June 13. Bidders can inspect auction vehicles on Wed. June 12, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and also at 7a.m. on auction day, June 13. The auction is on-site in Portland, OR where the majority of equipment is located. Buyers can bid on all equipment in person at the auction site, or online, as many vehicles are located in several other states including Washington, California, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona. Vehicles are added to the auction daily, and people looking for used cars, trucks and other vehicles are encouraged to sign up for weekly email updates to stay informed of newly added equipment.

J.J. Kane is well-known for used bucket truck and utility equipment auctions. However, their auctions also feature a large number of used cars, vans, light-duty trucks, and SUV s. JJ Kane auctions are absolute, meaning that everything sells to the highest bidder, regardless of price. There are no minimums or reserves at an absolute auction, and owners are not allowed to bid on equipment they have consigned to the auction. Selling price is determined by the bidders participating in the auction, and no one else. Anyone can register and connect directly with buyers and sellers through this auction company, helping both parties to exchange equipment at a fair price.

JJ Kane provides the services that are important to buyers and sellers in the way that is most convenient for them. Sellers benefit from a convenient and cost-effective way to sell equipment for competitive market value. Buyers can kick the tires and inspect items personally, or if they prefer, they can make purchases online without the time and expense incurred with traveling to an auction,” says Joe Kane, founder of J.J. Kane Auctioneers.

    About J.J. Kane

J.J. Kane Auctioneers was founded more than 20 years ago by Joe Kane with a philosophy to provide the best vehicle to take care of the customer and is based on a foundation of family, strong values and relationships. If you successfully bid on a vehicle, your deposit will go toward the purchase price and you will be required to pay the balance in form of cash or cashier check by 5 p.m. on the day of the auction. If this is your first time attending an auto auction in Ohio, you should review our beginners guide.

Tuesday afternoon you will find an updated run list of the vehicles that will be up for sale. If you are wondering what an average car sells for at an auction, you can view our public market report. To gain quicker access to our lot on auction day, you may pre-register.

Choosing the Best Public Cloud Provider

Your options: Amazon (AWS), Azure, Google (GCP), IBM Cloud and Rackspace.

    Confused? You’re not alone.

    Not Created Equal

The five major cloud players each offer very specific features on their native public cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings or what you automatically get as a customer.

But none of them do everything, warned Amir Naftali, CTO and co-founder of FortyCloud. a cloud security company with offices in Mansfield, Mass. and Hod HaSharon, Israel.

“It s a shared services model, remember?” he added. “The cloud provider supplies the physical infrastructure, and the user supplies the application and security.”

FortyCloud provides Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)-based solutions that enable companies to secure all network and access aspects of their public cloud IaaS deployments. In other words, it adds a layer of protection on top of virtual infrastructures from public cloud providers.

So how well do the leading providers secure your cloud? To find out, Naftali compared the following features:

    • Shared Cloud Network. public IaaS environment where different cloud customers share the same cloud service subnet. In this model, each cloud server (VM) usually has a public IP address (permanent or temporary) as well as service IP address for the internal cloud service network
    • Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Network. the IaaS provider supports an isolation of customers cloud deployments, so that a customer can have a private subnet unreachable from other customers cloud servers or from the public Internet
    • Firewall. collection of policies and rules to control the traffic allowed to and from a group of cloud servers or static IP Addresses
    • Identity-based access management. firewall rules based on user identity, allowing access of specific users to specific set of compute resources
    • Secure extension. ability to securely connect enterprise sites to the cloud deployment (usually a virtual private network) via static IPSec connections
    • Secure remote access to individual server. ability to access an individual machine (VM) using a secure protocol (like SSH or RDP); this type of remote access is usually based on credentials specific to a single user and a single server
    • Remote VPN access. the ability of the organization s employees to securely connect on demand to the cloud deployment remotely using VPN clients, including central authentication of the employees identity before gaining access to the cloud deployment

    Here’s what he found.

“It’s basically a starting point for customers who want to see what’s out there,” he told CMSWire. “What we want to do is get potential customers to ask questions, and examine what native functionalities the various providers offer.”

    Getting Buzzed

Alon Maimoni, Chief Marketing Officer at FortyCloud, said the chart is a way to help “clear the fog” around cloud deployments.

“Cloud has become such a big buzzword,” he said, noting that many cloud newbies assume they will get all the necessary features and security protocols right out of the box. “We’re trying to present a clear picture so customers can make a more informed choice.”

As Naftali added, more companies are aware of the benefits of using the cloud. Now they want to better plan their migration. “The question now is how do I move to the cloud in the safest way?” he said.

The right cloud provider depends on many factors, including cost, experience and capabilities, he added.

Once you select your provider, it’s prudent to select additional security tools to harden your cloud environment to the level you require. Many cloud providers offer a marketplace of security solution partners, he added. These let you find the security tools you need at the price you want to pay.

    Security Clearance

Security clearances are an increasingly important requirement for federal government employees, employees of government contractors, military personnel and even private sector employees. Security clearance guidelines and standards over the past 10 years have changed, and the number of individuals who require access to sensitive or classified information has significantly increased. In addition, the federal government has required employees who already have security clearances to upgrade their security clearance levels. The process of obtaining, retaining and upgrading a security clearance over the last several years has become more complex due to the security concerns of the United States Government. Our firm serves as security clearance lawyers for individuals encountering difficulties or questions in the security clearance process. We belong to the Security Clearance Lawyers Association.

    Security Clearance Application Process

All employees whose positions require access to sensitive information or restricted areas are required to complete an application form known as the Standard Form 86 Questionnaire for National Security Positions (SF-86) or Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP ). Providing information in the SF-86 or e-QIP is voluntary; however, completing the form truthfully is critical to the process of successfully obtaining a security clearance. Once a security clearance application is completed, it is generally submitted to the Defense Security Service (DSS), the individual federal agency s security clearance review office, or the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for a review and determination.

    Public Trust/Suitability Investigations

Federal employment positions often include important duties that do not require a security clearance but are sensitive in nature. For instance, included in public trust positions are certain types of federal police officers, comptrollers, and public safety and health workers. These positions are referred to as public trust positions. They are subject to background investigations, which include a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) review, and potential personal interview and reference checks.

Our law firm also represents and advises individuals in the related area of suitability and public trust positions, which derive from an individual s completion of the SF-85 (Questionnaire for Non-Sensitive Positions) and SF-85P (Questionnaire for Public Trust Positions).

    Security Clearance Investigations

The U.S. Government conducts background investigations and reinvestigations of individuals under consideration for a security clearance or for the retention of their security clearance in national security positions. Applying for a security clearance requires an employee to undergo a comprehensive background investigation into all aspects of his or her personal and professional history. The investigation includes interviewing the applicant, checking state and federal criminal databases, and interviewing other persons. An employee’s full cooperation with all aspects of the investigation is a requirement in order for him or her to obtain a security clearance.

If a federal employee or government contractor employee’s initial application is denied, or his or her existing security clearance is revoked or suspended, he or she will be issued a Statement of Reasons (SOR) or will be provided a notice which outlines the reasons why the security clearance was not granted or continued. When the Defense Security Service (DSS), the individual s federal agency security office, or the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) denies an employee’s security clearance, there are procedures or provisions that allow the employee or government contractor employee to appeal the decision, such as a hearing (often referred to as a personal appearance) before the employing agency or the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals (DOHA) to adjudicate his or her security clearance matter.

Federal employees have the right to appear in person before an administrative judge in a hearing (or other clearance adjudicator) and respond to the allegations in the SOR. Following such a hearing or personal appearance, the administrative judge or adjudicator will issue a recommended decision to the federal agency s personnel security appeals board (PSAB), which will issue the final determination on the federal employee s security clearance. Government contractor employees in DoD cases have the right to a hearing before a DOHA judge. In cases involving DoD government contractors, the administrative judge will issue the initial ruling as to whether the security clearance is granted. A contractor then has a right to appeal an adverse decision to the DOHA Appeal Board.

    Intelligence Agency Security Clearance Holders

Our firm represents security clearance holders and applicants before federal intelligence agencies, governed by Intelligence Community Directive 703 and Intelligence Community Policy Guidance 704.2 such as the National Security Agency (NSA), Central Intelligency Agency (CIA), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and others.

Berry Berry, PLLC are security clearance attorneys that handle federal employee and federal contractor security clearance and public trust matters throughout the United States.

Our experienced attorneys have assisted numerous federal government employees, military personnel, and government contractors in all stages of the security clearance process by providing legal advice or representation. In addition, our attorneys are familiar with the significant differences between individuals seeking security clearances for use as federal employees and individuals seeking security clearances for use as federal government contractors (i.e. industrial security clearances under Executive Order 10865 and Department of Defense Directive 5220.6).

Our attorneys can advise employees on areas of the SF-86, e-Qip or other related security clearance documentation that require additional care and attention. Our attorneys can also provide advice or guidance in the application, interview and polygraph processes for any security clearance levels such as the following:

    • Confidential, Secret or Top Secret
    • Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
    • Special Access Programs (SAP)

If a security clearance is denied, our experienced attorneys can represent the employee through the appeal process before the DOHA, the DSS or the federal agency processing the clearance. It is important that an employee takes the appeal process very seriously as the inability to obtain, maintain or upgrade a security clearance at the appellate stages can mean the loss of his or her position.

Please contact Berry Berry, PLLC to schedule a consultation with a security clearance attorney if you are submitting an initial security clearance application (SF-86), undergoing a background investigation, or having your security clearance denied or revoked.

Weekly public auto auctions are now being held in Philadelphia by Capital Auto Auction. Full details are available online at http://www.capitalautoauction.com.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 03, 2013

There is no secret in the Tri States Area that the twice weekly Capital Auto Auction sales are the best source for great deals on used cars at any Philadelphia auto auction. Hundreds of used cars of all types are sold at Philadelphia car auctions in two live/drive auctions and online Philadelphia car auctions each week at incredibly lows prices, including scores that are claimed through bidding for under $1,000.

Capital Auto Auction’s Philadelphia operation is one of four operated by the leading vehicle auction company. Other auction sites are in Washington, D.C.. Rhode Island, and Boston/New England. Auction attendees snap up used vehicles at exceptionally low prices in the highly competitive bidding for hundreds of used cars, including vehicles donated to major charities, former FBI fleet cars, dealer trade-ins, bank repossessions, and private party consignment sales.

Anxious bidders scour Capital Auto Auction’s web site, capitalautoauction.com, each week to peruse the descriptions of the hundreds of cars up for bid each Wednesday and Saturday and twice weekly online. The Philly car auctions are led by independent professional auctioneers who lead the spirited and highly competitive bidding by smart buyers, who know where to buy all types of used cars at the lowest prices in the Philadelphia/Tri-States region. All live/drive auctions are held at Capital Auto Auction’s Philadelphia facility, easily identified by the company’s giant sign at 5135 Bleigh Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19136, off Route 95 at Cottman Avenue. Live/drive auctions begin at 5:00 PM on Wednesdays and 11:00 each Saturday, with real-time online used car auctions starting at 4:00 PM on Saturdays.

Capital Auto Auction’s weekly inventory of cars for sale is much like a weekly treasure hunt: there is such a huge turnover in the used car inventory that it is impossible to predict what will be available each new week. Capital Auto Auction posts updated listings for each auction regularly, and there is no predicting what vehicles will appear on any week’s new, diverse supply of hundreds of cars for sale at the Philadelphia car auctions. Each week’s listings feature a variety of vehicles up for family car auction, mini van auction, SUV auction, truck auction, and sports car auction. The sales list also frequently includes boats, recreational vehicles, and motorcycles.

The selection of vehicles to be sold at each week’s Wednesday and Saturday live/drive auctions in Philadelphia are listed on Capital Auto Auction’s website, capitalautoauction.com, along with all available details and descriptions, as well as photos of the vehicles. Photographs of cars that are being sold in each week’s real-time Internet auction are also presented on the website.

Many of the used cars auctioned have been donated to a number of charities, who turn to Capital Auto Auction to handle the sales of these vehicles, with proceeds collected for organizations such as Goodwill, Cars for Breast Cancer, Volunteers of America, the Salvation Army, Charitable Auto Resources, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Cars for Causes, Cars Helping Veterans, the National Kidney Association, Homestretch, Cars Helping Pets, Purple Heart Car Donation Program, Kars 4 Kids, Cars to Help Kids, and Melwood Growing Together.

The Philadelphia vehicle auctions draw hopeful buyers from throughout the surrounding area, including buyers who have turned to Capital Auto Auction’s Philadelphia events because of their reputation for offering a far greater pool of used cars than New York car auctions and New Jersey car auctions.

In addition to being a great source for used car shoppers, Capital Auto Auction’s Philadelphia sales events are also excellent outlets for used car owners who are looking to make quick, profitable sales of their vehicles.

All consignment sales are conducted with the assistance of Capital Auto Auction’s team of seasoned professionals who take charge of all aspects of the consignments; including advertising and negotiating the sales of used vehicles. As a service to its Philadelphia area consignment sellers, Capital’s staff of experienced sales pros takes the work out of selling a used car. They handle all of the phone calls, make arrangements for sales, and even handle any problems or disputes that may arise with a consignment sale. Selling on consignment through Capital Auto Auction is an attractive alternative to traditional used car sales because vehicles are advertised and displayed on Capital’s website, so no strangers call or come to the seller’s home.

All used car consignment vehicles must be free of any liens and be titled in the names of their sellers. Capital Auto Auction accepts consignment vehicles on a first come/first served basis with a limited number of consignment slots for each auction. Private parties interested in live/drive and online used car consignment sales can make all arrangements to have their vehicles marketed by Capital Auto Auction by connecting to capitalautoauction.com or by phoning (215) 332-2515. Inquiries can also be made by fax at (215) 332-2534 or by sending an email to pa(at)capitalautoauction(dot)com.

Admission and participation for all Capital Auto Auction live/drive and online auction events are always free. All buyers are required to complete a registration questionnaire, which can be filled out in advance online to expedite the closing of their purchases on auction days. Prospective Internet auction buyers are required complete the mandatory registration questionnaire prior to participating in bidding for used vehicles.

Prospective Philadelphia live/drive auction bidders can inspect vehicles for sale in person up to one hour before bidding starts. Capital Auto Auction requires payment by cash, certified bank checks, Visa, or Master Charge. Winning bidders are permitted to post a minimum deposit of $200 to $500 (depending upon the purchase price) to hold vehicles for one business day. The remaining balance must be paid in full when cars are picked up the following business day. All buyers are required to provide proof of being 18 or older, and anyone driving or removing a vehicle from the Philadelphia car auction site must present a valid U.S.-issued driver’s license.

A penetration test is done to evaluate the security of a computer system or network by simulating an attack by a malicious user / hacker. The process involves active exploitation of security vulnerabilities that may be present due to poor or improper system configuration, known and / or unknown hardware or software flaws, or operational weaknesses in process or design.

This analysis is carried out from the position of a potential attacker, to determine feasibility of an attack and the resulting business impact of a successful exploit. Usually this is presented with recommendations for mitigation or a technical solution.

    About this workshop

This workshop gives an in-depth perspective of penetration testing approach and methodology that covers all modern infrastructure, operating systems and application environments.

This workshop is designed to teach security professionals the tools and techniques required to perform comprehensive information security assessment.

Participants will learn how to design, secure and test networks to protect their organization from the threats hackers and crackers pose. This workshop will help participants to effectively identify and mitigate risks to the security of their organization s infrastructure.

This 40 hour highly interactive workshop will help participants have hands on understanding and experience in Security Assessment.

A proper understanding of Security Assessment is an important requirement to analyze the integrity of the IT infrastructure.

Over the past 5 years I ‘ve had purchase three cars( Volvo,Mercedes ML, Niss Altima) from philly auction.I still have all of the cars,as I have large family and a couple of teens who’ve

These guys are thieves, Stay Away. This business is very suspicious. They have no auction paddles. Just a piece of paper. The auctioneer and one of the owners bangs a piece of rubber on a wood counter upfront to make it seem like someone bids on a vehicle when nobody bids. For instance with my car that I purchased, the auctioneer said 6500.00 and then the guy who I think is the owner up front bangs the piece of rubber to make it seem like someone bids on the vehicle and then they said 6800.00. I thought someone bid and then some people who were with me and other people at the auction informed me that nobody bid. This is extremely deceptive.

Also, when they drove up the vehicle there were no engine light warnings on. We could not even get the milage on the vehicle and the auctioneer and owner said 101,000 miles were on the vehicle.

Wednesday night 04/13/2011 we bid on the car and Friday 04/15/2011 after noon we went to pick up and pay the balance on the car. There the girl asks me if for 2000.00 I wanted transmission or engine insurance for 3 days. I said, Why is something wrong with the transmission or engine? Everything was really weird. There were big men standing all around like guards, only one person could go into the room. They would not allow my wife to go in the room to look over paperwork with me. We got at the auction at 12 noon and the owner said that it would take a couple hours to get the title. We went and got something to eat. Around 2:45 in the after noon 15 minutes before the business closed. They said we could pick it up. We went in. They gave us a piece of paper to go across the street into a open fenced gate. We had to give the guy inside the gate the paper and he drove the car out of the lot. My friend got in the car to follow me back to the Pocono’s in Pennsylvania. My friend called me on my cell phone to inform me, the car was not shifting out of first gear and something was wrong with the transmission. I phoned the auctioneer immediately. The receptionists answered, put me on hold and then nobody picked up the phone. I called again and they would not answer. I turned around because we were a couple of minutes away from the auction business and nobody opened or answered the door. I called a friend and took the vehicle to Superior Auto Care,Inc. 215-271-1439. The owner Peter Cundo hooked the vehicle up to a diagnostic machine and he informed me that the auction company used a scanner to clear any engine light codes that would have come on and warned us that their was something wrong with the engine. Also the vehicle had 125,000 not 101,000 miles, like we were told.

They have covered up the facts that this car has engine and transmission problems. Then they have cleared the codes with a scanner. Doing this is extremely deceitful. Although the auction says, as is we would not have purchased a vehicle with engine light warnings illuminating. To replace the transmission is 8000.00. The purchase price was 6800.00 plus 12.25% buyers premium which is 833.00, 108.00 auction fee and 115.00 tag fee, totaling 7857.00. My wife is so upset and sick she can not function. because now having four children she has no vehicle. There is no way for her to take our kids to their practices, games and lessons after school. Our daughters couldn’t goto gymnastics class because we couldn’t get them there. Our older daughter is in a competition and will not be as prepared as she should be because of missed lessons. We can not ask anyone to take her over an hour each way, several times a week. She too us very upset.

I do not want anybody else to go through this horrible, disgusting, deceitful, dishonest experience. This company should be put out of business. Send people there undercover and you will not beleive what you will

    Public Repo Auction

Public buyers are welcome to participate in our repossession sale (public repo auction). The public repo auction offers a large selection of repossessed cars that belong to area banks, credit unions, finance companies, and other lenders. Not all the vehicles in the auction will be in good working order, so if you want to get a nice car for a great price you will need to do some homework.

Plan arriving early on auction day to allow time to inspect the cars. We require a valid ID and $500 cash deposit in order to receive a bid badge. If you do not successfully bid on a vehicle, your deposit is refunded to you.

Thank you for showing interest in abc Cincinnati. Hope to see you at our next public repo auction.

    Public Car Auctions Cheap Cars?

Public Car Auctions for Cheap Cars

Is it possible to get good deals at public car auctions?

Yes. It is very possible to get good deals on used cars at public car auctions. But you have to know where to find them and how to participate.

    Types of public car auctions

A great many car auctions allow only licensed car dealers to buy. However, other auctions are also open to the public and can be a source of good cars at good prices.

The most common type of car auction are those conducted by professional auction companies. Some are large with locations around the country, such as Manheim and ADESA. Others are small local or regional companies. Some are conducted by local towing companies. Other auctions are conducted by police departments or other local and national government agencies, such as the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

Auctions can vary in terms of the type of vehicles and source of vehicles. A specific auction might be only for high-end exotic cars, or heavy trucks, or repossessed vehicles, or unclaimed vehicles, or police seized vehicles, or government vehicles.

How do I find public car auctions?

Many of the larger auctions companies, such as Manheim. have web sites on which they announce upcoming public auctions in locations across the country. Regional and local auctions are usually advertised in newspapers or local TV ads. Federal and local government auctions are usually announced in local or national newspapers. If there are a number of local newspapers, the announcements will only be in one of those papers. Announcements typically appear on a specific schedule, such as on a particular Friday each month.

Some auction announcements may provide a detailed inventory list, including vehicle descriptions and VIN numbers. Others are less detailed, or provide no detail at all.

See the newest wheel styles for your car at Tire Rack. !

To find public auto auctions, you should search the web, check your local telephone Yellow Pages, call your local newspapers to get auction announcement schedules, contact your local government agencies, and call local tow companies. It takes a little legwork but the effort can pay off if you find some great bargains.

    Get a directory of auctions

Although you can do the work and find auctions on your own, there are online services that offer directories of auctions for a fee. Some specialize in public government auctions, but others are more general.

You ll find these services advertised on the Internet. Some have good up-to-date data, and others do not. If you decide to try one or more of the services, make sure they have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How do I participate in public car auctions?

Most auctions have a procedure for inspecting vehicles before the auction date or time. Although you won t be able to drive the vehicles, you may be able to start them and look them over carefully. If you don t have the skill to do inspections yourself, you should bring someone with you who can do them for you, and give you advice.

Bring a used-car value guidebook, such as those from Kelley Blue Book and NADA Guides. available in book stores and newsstands — or use a smartphone, laptop or tablet computer to access such sources online. NADA Guides has a section of its site that is specifically designed for the iPhone (iphone.nadaguides.com). You should know what the cars are worth so that you don t overbid.

Also check out the car with an AutoCheck® or Carfax  vehicle history report to find out if it has been wrecked, flooded, or has a salvage title. The small cost of a report can easily save you from making an expensive mistake. Access your report at an auction by using a laptop or smartphone. Be sure to set your account ahead of time.

Make sure you understand the rules and procedures of the auction. If the company has a web site, the rules may be posted there. You should attend a couple of auctions just to get familiar with the process and how it works before you come back to actively participate.

If you plan to bid, make sure you have the finances arranged to pay for your winning bids. Many auctions require that you have financial proof in the form of cash, cashiers check, or line-of-credit confirmation. You can get pre-approved for a loan at a bank or at an online auto loan company such as Auto Credit Express . Most auctions require pre-registration, which could require a fee. Some may also charge a buyer s premium on the sale price.

Find Cheap Cars at Government Auto Auctions from Gov-Auctions.org .

    Protect yourself

When buying a used car at an auto auction, you are taking a chance that the car has problems that won t show up until later. A relatively small investment in an extended auto warranty from a company such as Endurance Auto Warranty  will cover you when those problems appear..

    Public Auto Auction

    Towing Company Public Auto Auctions

In Georgia, when a vehicle is impounded, the owner of the vehicle is required to pay certain fees in order to reclaim a towed vehicle. The fee for the towing service is mandatory and there may be fees for administrative costs and vehicle storage. The vehicle storage fees are accrued for each day the vehicle is stored beyond the first 24 hours after the car was towed and impounded. Any vehicle not claimed within 30 days of being towed may be sold at auction. We have monthly auto auctions in Marietta GA .

Types of Vehicles Sold At Auction

We are a towing company and auction abandoned vehicles to cover expenses incurred from towing and impounding vehicles. The types of vehicles that we present at our public auto auctions depend solely upon what vehicles we have towed and are unclaimed. Look here for pictures of cars to be auctioned.

K O Towing is not a used car dealer or otherwise in the business of seeking to provide motor vehicles of any particular condition or value. The types of vehicles sold at our auction typically includes older model cars and trucks; however we do sometimes have motorcycles or late model vehicles.

    Auto Auction Consumer Advisement

All vehicles sold at our auctions are deemed "abandoned vehicles " and have not been inspected, tested or serviced by our company. Our company does not have any knowledge on the vehicle’s condition or service history. We strongly recommend that prior to bidding on any vehicle to be auctioned you take time to view and inspect the vehicle(s) in which you have an interest. All vehicles sold at auction are presented and sold "AS IS" and without any implied, expressed or formal warranty. Anyone purchasing a vehicle at our auctions assumes all risks and responsibilities associated with owning a motor vehicle in Georgia.

Buyers of any vehicle sold at auction will be given a Bill of Sale. and may request a copy of a Court Order or similar paperwork needed to request a vehicle title from the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles. We do not provide administrative or legal services for obtaining motor vehicle titles or car insurance.
