The survey averaged coverages from six providers per state for a 40-year-old driver with a 12-mile commute to work. The quotes were for a yearly policy with $100,000 coverage for a single person, $300,000 for all injured and $50,000 for property damage.

  50. South Carolina, $1,095
  51. Vermont, $995

Why is there such a difference (255%) between the most and least expensive? According to Insure.com, the reasons are several.

The primary one, however, is uninsured motorists. In states with a lot of uninsured motorists, the insured must kick more money into the pool to cover accidents in which they are involved.

According to 2007 data compiled by the Insurance Research Council. the top states with uninsured motorists were:

  1. New Mexico, 29%
  2. Mississippi, 28%
  3. Alabama, 26%
  4. Oklahoma, 24%
  5. Florida, 23%

The states with the fewest uninsured drivers were:

  1. Massachusetts, 1%
  2. Maine, 4%
  3. North Dakota, 5%
  4. New York, 5%
  5. Vermont, 6%

The leading state in insurance premiums, Michigan, finished 10th with 17%. So why was it No. 1? For one reason, of all the states, only Michigan has no cap on personal injury protection payments to those hurt in a vehicle accident. A separate, not-for-profit, state-originated association picks up payments only after the insurance company has paid out almost half a million dollars in claims, in addition to three years of lost wages and damage replacement costs. Of course, all of these expenses are paid for with insurance premium dollars.

Insure’s report also suggests that the friendly climate for litigation in Louisiana helps drive up its premiums, while violent weather does the same for Oklahoma drivers.

At the other end of the spectrum, Vermont’s low premium is, according to one expert, a function of low traffic volume and “rural sensibilities.”

Concerned about the cost of car insurance? Then you might also consider which car you drive. It can make an even larger difference than where you drive it.

5 Most Popular Car Repair Insurance Providers

June 19, 2013

There are many different car repair insurance providers taking care of customers all over the country. These can be localized insurance companies, or those that are nationwide. Some are very well known because of commercials on television, while others are circulated through word of mouth and reviews on different websites. If you are in the process of looking into buying a car repair insurance policy, but do not know where you should start looking, here is a quick list of the most popular car repair insurance providers.

Get Free Car Insurance Quotes

If you watch late night television, or are addicted to NASCAR, then you will no doubt have heard about the Rusty Wallace endorsed U.S. Fidelis insurance company. One of the more popular companies in the country, they are not without their problems. Several open court cases have been filed against the company that is reeling from the verge of bankruptcy. This company provides limited service policies to comprehensive, bumper-to-bumper coverage. However, their fine print is sometimes too much for their customers.

Another leading provider of short term car repair insurance and limited warranties is called Warranty Direct. This is a financially sound company that has been providing new and used warranty service for many years. One of the pitfalls when working with an insurance company is whether or not they will honor their policies or have a lot of different fine print clauses. Warranty Direct is the leading company in customer satisfaction and honoring each claim that they process.

Dealing with major companies is usually going to provide you with some of the best coverage and experiences. The Allstate Insurance company provides protection against car repairs as well as regular collision insurance. This gives them the financial power to be able to honor their customers by taking care of their claims without a lot of hassle. Their requirements are not as stringent as other smaller companies, and can further help with lower premiums and policy costs.

The CARCHEX Insurance company is also one of the more popular insurance companies that receive the greatest customer satisfaction rewards. They work with each new customer to help tailor a customer insurance policy that will reflect their needs instead of a generic policy. Consistently at the top in their industry, there are few complaints in an industry that generally receive large amounts.

There are other car repair insurance providers in the marketplace today, as well as many different online providers. However, these are the most popular. Start your search with these before moving onto other companies.

Overview and Statistics

Binge eating disorder is a severe, life-threatening and treatable eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food (often very quickly and to the point of discomfort); a feeling of a loss of control during the binge; experiencing shame, distress or guilt afterwards; and not regularly using unhealthy compensatory measures (e.g. purging) to counter the binge eating. It is the most common eating disorder in the United States.

BED is one of the newest eating disorders formally recognized in the DSM5. Before the most recent revision in 2013, BED was listed as a subtype of EDNOS (now referred to as OSFED). The change is important because some insurance companies will not cover eating disorder treatment without a DSM diagnosis. The formal diagnostic criteria are:

  • Recurrent episodes of binge eating. An episode of binge eating is characterized by both of the following:
    • Eating, in a discrete period of time (e.g. within any 2-hour period), an amount of food that is definitely larger than what most people would eat in a similar period of time under similar circumstances.
    • A sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (e.g. a feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating).
  • The binge eating episodes are associated with three (or more) of the following:
    • Eating much more rapidly than normal.
    • Eating until feeling uncomfortably full.
    • Eating large amounts of food when not feeling physically hungry.
    • Eating alone because of feeling embarrassed by how much one is eating.
    • Feeling disgusted with oneself, depressed, or very guilty afterward.
  • Marked distress regarding binge eating is present.
  • The binge eating occurs, on average, at least once a week for 3 months.
  • The binge eating is not associated with the recurrent use of inappropriate compensatory behaviors (e.g. purging) as in bulimia nervosa and does not occur exclusively during the course of bulimia nervosa or anorexia nervosa.

NEDA has gathered data on the prevalence of eating disorders from the US, UK, and Europe to get a better idea of exactly how common eating disorders are. Although BED is not a new disorder, its new formal recognition in the research community has left far more gaps in the data on the incidence and prevalence of BED than for anorexia and bulimia.

  • A 2007 study asked 9,282 English-speaking Americans about a variety of mental health conditions, including eating disorders. The results, published in Biological Psychiatry, found that 3.5% of women and 2.0% of men had binge eating disorder during their life
    • This makes BED more than three times more common than anorexia and bulimia combined.
    • BED is also more common than breast cancer, HIV, and schizophrenia.
  • When researchers followed a group of 496 adolescent girls for 8 years until they were 20, they found:
    • 5.2% of the girls met criteria for DSM5 anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder.
    • When the researchers included nonspecific eating disorder symptoms, a total of 13.2% of the girls had suffered from a DSM-5 eating disorder by age 20.
  • Combining information from several sources, Eric Stice and Cara Bohon found that
    • Between 0.2% and 3.5% of females and 0.9% and 2.0% of males will develop binge eating disorder
    • Subthreshold binge eating disorder occurs in 1.6% of adolescent females
  • Research estimates that
    • 28.4% of people with current BED are receiving treatment for their disorder
    • 43.6% of people with BED at some point in their lives will receive treatment
  • BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s, although it has been reported in both young children and older adults.
  • Approximately 40% of those with binge eating disorder are male.
  • Three out of ten individuals looking for weight loss treatments show signs of BED.

‘World’s most secure’ email service is riddled with security flaws that leave it vulnerable to being hacked

  • Startup Nomx is trying to change the way that emails send to make them safer
  • It claims its email system ‘ensures absolute security and privacy’
  • But a researcher has found a flaw in the system that makes it easy to hack

An email service that claims to offer the ‘world’s most secure communications protocol’ is easily hackable, according to a researcher.

The system, whose creators claim ‘ensures absolute security and privacy’, runs through a device that is riddled with security flaws, the expert said.

Security researcher, Scott Helme, found an easy way for hackers to remotely break into the $199 (£154) device and take control of a user’s email account.

An email service that claims to be the ‘world’s most secure communications protocol’ is easily hackable, according to a researcher. The system, whose creators say ‘ensures absolute security and privacy’, runs through a $199 (£154) device (pictured) that is riddled with flaws

THE NOMX VULNERABILITY

Security researcher Scott Helme decided to explore how the device works by taking it apart.

He found that the box uses outdated software on a basic ‘Raspberry Pi’ computer chip that has several bugs.

Nomx’s code is ‘riddled with bad examples of how to do things,’ Mr Helme wrote in a blog post on his research.

He found that Nomx’s web application had a flaw that allowed anyone to take full control of the device and hence someone’s email account.

All a hacker would need to do is have their victim visit a malicious website link.

‘I could read emails, send emails, and delete emails. I could even create my own email address,’ Mr Helme told Motherboard .

Startup company, Nomx, who designed the service, has denied that there is anything wrong with their hardware.

The company is trying to change the way emails are sent in order to create a safer way to message people.

It sells a device that helps users set up their own email server.

This, the company says, keeps your messages away from mail exchange servers, otherwise known as MX servers – hence ‘Nomx’.

The company claims that these MX servers are inherently ‘vulnerable’ and by avoiding them using their device, users’ emails will be more secure.

Fastest Way to become an RN

Here are some of my questions I need opinions and Former RN’s to help with this:

1) Is it easier to become a CNA then apply to Nursing school and try to get in?

2) Is it easier to become an LPN then apply to a Nursing school and try to be accepted?

3) Whats the most efficient and fast way of becoming a RN?

I was thinking about going for my CNA in Jan. of 2008 and hopefully transfering to a nursing school in Fall of 2008. Or is it better to go and find a school for a 2 year degree in LPN or RN then becoming an RN? Any info would be deeply appreciated.

A typical student who goes for a BSN in nursing will take 3.5-4 years.

My situations is this, I am in a private university, no such things as a wait list, more expensive. I started in April of this year, 2007, and will be completed and ready for my NCLEX by June 2009. This includes ALL my pre reqs. Had I already had my pre reqs, I could complete our program in 18 months. I will have my ASN, associates of science in nursing, and be an RN, after I pass NCLEX. Now at that point I will be 2 years into schooling and be an RN. I will take my BSN classes online, as my school offers this as well, this will take 1 more year. and in 3 years time I will have my BSN in nursing. WAY Faster then traditional method. PLUS the last year I will be working and making money, and gaining experience while getting my BSN.

Good luck in what you decide to do.

In my opinion, it would be a waste of time to become a CNA, (unless you just want to work in the nursing arena). You still have to take your prerequisite classes, such as, English, Algebra, World history, Anatomy Physiology, Microbiology etc. You have to complete these core classes with satisfactory grades before taking the NET or Nurse Entrance Test. None of the credits from a CNA program will transfer, but some credits from the LPN program does transfer, it depends on your school. Also an LPN is not a degree program, it is a licencse to practice nursing in your state, you receive a diploma or certificate. My advice is to aim for the top, become an RN.

I can reply to this message on a more personal level. I graduated from a four year school Dec 2005. Couldn’t get a job in my field to save my life. I first thought I wanted to be a teacher, but after even struggling with that decision, I decided to pursue nursing which is something I wanted to do while in school the first go around. Getting there was the problem. It was the middle of the Fall 2006 semester when I decided to got to nursing school. I couldn’t apply for admission into a new school until Spring of 07. My crazy self decided that I could go to the community college, become a CNA (which is now a requirement before they’ll even accept you into an ADN program) then start my pre reqs over the summer. I took general psyc over the summer since I got a D on it during my first degree and a D won’t transfer. I’m now at this school that offers an Accelerated BSN program for those with a degree in a field other than nursing. The program will take 13 months to complete. Basically, if I were you and was planning on applying to an ADN program, I would become a CNA first, especially if it’s a requirement. If you’re planning on going to a four year school, I wouldn’t worry about the NA certification because they’ll certify you after a few semesters into the program. It does help to be a CNA because you’d have relevent experience. But if you don’t want to waste the time to become certified, you could be a volunteer. I just started working as a CNA after being certified in March. I work at a teaching hospital which is cool. I just learned that they have a CNA program that allows you get certified in 2 WEEKS. The program I enrolled in at the community college took 2 MONTHS. As far as the whole LPN thing goes, I probably wouldn’t even waste my time. I’ve been doing some research and from what I’ve read less and less hospitals are hiring LPN’s but if you plan to work at maybe a prison, or a rest home then go for it.

Wow I really like that method. I wish that was available everywhere.

It really depends on the school you go to.

I have heard others on the board state that their school requires you become a CNA first or give you extra points if you do.

Others schools do not care, won’t even ask that on the application so having it is just a big waste of time. They will not give you extra points or any advantage for doing it.

So pick a school out and work on the requirments that the school you want to go to has.

As far as a LPN it will not help you get into RN school. If you go that route you will have to take pre reqs for the LPN program, and then get accepted, and its tough to get into just like the RN programs. Then once in most take a year, and you will get a certificate. Then you will have to go back to CC and take more pre reqs and reapply to an RN bridge program, get accepted and do that before getting a degree, and sitting for the state exam. Its actually a much longer road.

15 Most Affordable Online Master’s in Educational Leadership Degree Programs

In the fast paced, ever changing environment of education, those seeking to move into leadership positions must have their finger on the pulse of modern movements in the field. Most states require school administrators and principals to have a degree in educational leadership or administration. A good program prepares prospective administrators for both the licensure exams, and the challenges of managing the affairs of schools.

This is a list of the fifteen cheapest graduate degrees in educational leadership and educational administration at institutions that are accredited by major regional or national accrediting bodies. These schools offer both quality programs, and affordable tuition. Many of the public universities on this list offer reduced rates for online students, and the cheapest, offer online students resident tuition rates. All tuition rates are taken directly from the website of each individual university. The rates as we have recorded them are the cost of the full program, divided in two. The assumption is that on average it will take students two years to complete the degrees. Thus the tuition of the full program can be accurately calculated by multiplying the tuition listed here by two.

#15. Emporia State University: M.S. in Education Administration

This 35-hour program starts off our list of the cheapest graduate degrees in education leadership and administration. Even though it’s the most expensive program on our list, it’s still an incredibly cheap program overall. The program is designed to qualify students for licensure as principal, assistant principal, or athletic director.

#14. Sam Houston State University: M.Ed. in Administration

Sam Houston State University offers a program specifically designed to meet the needs of students seeking to work toward a Principal Certification. The program emphasizes general leadership strategies, and covers the fundamental technical knowledge necessary for effective business management, and meeting local and federal regulations.

#13. North Carolina State University: Online Master of School Administration

The Master of School Administration program at N.C. State is both high quality and affordable. The primary focus of the program is to train education leaders to implement strategies that improve the learning environment of their students and improve their performance.

#12. California State University East Bay: M.S. in Educational Leadership

It is very much a sign of the times that even California public universities are starting to offer a standard low rate for online students from out of state. This program has an option to pursue the California Preliminary Administrative Credential, which is an extra 12 credits. With tuition this low, if you are planning on working in California, it’s an easy decision.

#11. Purdue University Calumet: M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership

Purdue University at Calumet offers students a strong educational leadership program. Program graduates have a very high pass rate on the School Leaders Licensure Assessment exam. The Purdue System’s Center administers the program itself for Educational Leadership, which is housed on the Calumet campus.

#10. University of Arkansas: M.Ed. in Educational Leadership

The Educational Leadership program at the University of Arkansas is designed to emphasize summer courses, as this is the period where education professionals tend to have the most flexibility. The program itself is GRE exempt, though students must have a valid teaching license. The program is accredited at the highest level for education programs by NCATE.

#9. West Texas A M University: M.Ed. in Educational Leadership

The Texas A M University system is a very strong system within the greater Texas Public University System. Though WTAMU does charge more for non-residents than residents, the tuition is still incredibly low. Pair that with the quality Educational Leadership program, and students attending this school online can’t lose.

#8. Western Governors University: M.S. in Educational Leadership

19 visionary former governors in the mid-1990s founded this very successful grand experiment and venture, when the Internet was just starting to come into its own. The billing at WGU is semester based, so the faster you get your degree done, the cheaper it is. However, though the billing structure rewards fast completion, the tuition is still incredibly low even for students that take the standard amount of time.

#7. Columbia College: M.Ed. in Educational Leadership

The Educational Leadership at Columbia College features both a School Principalship and an Instructional Leader track. While the principal track does not guarantee students principal certification, the program does qualify and prepare students to pursue principal certification in the state of Missouri.

#6. University of Louisiana Monroe: M.Ed. in Educational Leadership

Electric cars to reach most isolated parts of Scotland

Have your say

SURGE in demand has seen massive investment in setting up additional charging points across region 900k of investment hoped to give drivers more confidence

The geography of the Highlands may not lend itself as a prime location for electric vehicles (EV) – but a surge in demand has seen massive investment in the setting up of additional charging points across isolated parts of the region.

Experts said long distances in the Highlands have traditionally led to “range anxiety” among some potential users.

But with the number of owners of EV’s in Scotland now topping the thousands, and increased interest in the most northern parts of the country, it is hoped a£900,000 investment will give drivers in the Highlands more confidence.

Government agency Transport Scotland has a strategy, supported by Switched on Scotland, to provide facilities at 35 mile intervals – but the logistics in the Highlands make that a difficult target.

However, a spokesman said: “Transport Scotland is working to increase the connectivity and resilience of the ChargePlace network, and as a result they are investing over £900,000 through Highland Council to ensure the key transport corridors through the area are available for use by EV drivers.

“Our support is enabling the Highland Council to install 20 rapid chargers, eight of which have already been commissioned – Inverness, Helmsdale, Portree, Grantown on Spey and Tain – with a further six due to be commissioned by the end of this week.

“The remainder are expected to be commissioned in the coming months.”

He added: “We anticipate that the installation of the rapid chargers will provide greater flexibility for both fleet and private vehicles in the area.”

The last three years have seen a remarkable surge in demand for electric vehicles in the UK – new registrations of plug-in cars increased from 3,500 in 2013 to more than 45,000 by the end of September this year.

Martin Sherring, of Transition Black Isle, said: “Long distances in the Highlands mean that ‘range anxiety’ is a serious barrier to electric vehicle use.

“We hope this project will reduce the barrier by enabling electric vehicle owners to recharge at their destination, ready for the trip home.

“And we aim to tick some other important boxes too, ensuring the electricity used is from renewable sources, re-using batteries which would otherwise become a waste disposal problem, and generating income for local communities.”

Louise Smith, director of Thurso consultancy Caithness Renewables, was seeking the views of Caithness and Sutherland transport users about the current use of electric vehicles and potential future developments.

She said: “The opinions of Caithness and Sutherland residents will fundamentally shape the direction of this project, and we are looking forward to an interesting consultation period.”

Caithness Rural Transport co-ordinator Coreen Campbell, said: “You may currently own an electric car, so we want to develop the project around where you live and work, what trips you currently use the car for and what potential trips you could make if rapid chargers were available.”

She added: “The detail behind this is a series of survey questions including which Highland locations you think might be useful for rapid charging stations. We also want to hear from any organisations – businesses, the public sector or community groups – that would be willing to host a charging point. You should ideally be located near the main road network and have an area where vehicles can pull in and park.”

Felix Wight, head of development at Community Energy Scotland explained: “Combining renewable energy with electric vehicles could be a double win for Highland communities, by allowing new energy generation projects to connect to areas of the grid that have limited capacity, and providing a source of sustainable electric fuel from local resources.”

Electric vehicle owners currently pay no road tax and are cheaper to run at 2p to 3p a mile to power an electric car compared to 16p a mile for the average fossil-fuelled family car. Scottish households that buy an electric vehicle have the added bonus of a 100 percent grant for a home charging point.

Monthly figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that electric car sales in the UK have risen dramatically during the past 12 months.

The 5 Most Popular Criminal Justice Careers

Below we’ve listed the 5 most popular careers in criminal justice. These careers are the most popular based on total number of professionals employed in these fields. However, it doesn’t mean that they’re the most exciting. While Crime Scene Investigator and Forensic Technician are indeed a few of the more exciting and high-profiles careers in criminal justice, they didn’t make our list of most popular CJ careers given the relatively low number of professionals employed in these fields. Once you’ve reviewed our top 5 list below we invite you to explore all the different criminal justice careers available for aspiring students and professionals.

1. Patrol Officer (Police / Sheriff’s Deputy / State Trooper)

Total U.S. workers: 632,000
Growth projection over next 10 years: 14%
Annual salary: $30,920 – $80,750
Entry-level education: Academy training and/or college degree

Not only are patrol officers the most visible of criminal justice professionals, according to a survey published by payscale.com the occupation of patrol officer is also the most popular criminal justice career field. And while the projected growth in new patrol office just is just 14% – the average for all occupations nationwide – patrol officers are always in demand. There are always officers retiring and moving into new lines of work. Given the large number of patrol officer positions through the United States, this means law enforcement agencies are constantly hiring more officers.

Patrol Officers are the first line of defense against crime. They investigate minor crimes, patrol communities, apprehend and arrest suspects, and issue traffic citations. Even though the rank of patrol officer is an entry-level law enforcement position, it requires a substantial amount of education and training. A college degree is often preferred and all candidates are required to complete an extensive police academy training program.

2. Paralegal / Legal Assistant

Total U.S. workers: 256,000
Growth projection over next 10 years: 18%
Annual salary: $29,460 – $74,860
Entry-level education: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree

While not the most glamorous of legal professions, paralegal is one of the most popular. There are nearly 260,000 paralegals employed nationwide – and this number is growing. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, new jobs for paralegals is projected to grow by over 18% (slightly faster than the average) over the next decade. Paralegals perform many of the same functions as attorneys although they’re paid substantially less. Consequently, law firms rely on the services provided by paralegals and a good paralegal is always in high demand. Paralegal is also a good launching pad to a career in law. Many students will pay their way through law school and gain valuable experience working as a paralegal.

As mentioned, paralegals have many of the same responsibilities as the lawyers they work for. They perform research for cases, help prepare cases and investigate claims. However, unlike lawyers, paralegals can’t practice law on their own or argue cases in court.

The median annual pay for paralegals is just under $47,000. However, salaries vary widely depending on location, employer and type of legal work performed. In many parts of the nation on average paralegals will earn anywhere from $50,000 to $60,000 a year – which a few earning even more.

3. Probation / Community Control / Correctional Teatment Specialist

Total U.S. workers: 93,200
Growth projection over next 10 years: 26%
Annual salary: $30,900 – $80,750
Entry-level education: Bachelor’s degree

Third on our list of 5 most popular criminal justice careers is probation officer, community control officer and correctional treatment specialists. While these three occupations all have similar functions within the criminal justice system, they serve slightly different purposes. As their name suggests, probation officers supervise criminals who are on probation following a jail sentence or in lieu of a jail sentence.

Correctional Treatment Specialists on the other hand focus on criminal rehabilitation. Like probation officers, correctional treatment specialists are involved with people who have been released from jail and on are probation. However, they focus almost exclusively on the design and development of rehabilitation plans which are then used by other law enforcement officers, including probation officers, to help reintegrate former convicts back into society.

4. Detective / Criminal Investigator

Total U.S. workers: 109,230
Growth projection over next 10 years: 26%
Annual salary: $39,900 – $122,990
Entry-level education: College degree

Detectives and Criminal Investigators are just a rank hirer than patrol officer. In fact, many patrol officers, after accumulating a few years of work experience, will apply for the position of detective or criminal investigator. Detectives and Criminal Investigators usually focus a specific area of detective work, such as burglary, battery and assault, domestic violence, robbery, white collar crime or forensics. Next to crime scene investigation, detective is one the most glamorized of the criminal justice careers.

Detectives are also among the better paid criminal justice professionals. Detectives just starting out make between $40,000 and $50,000 a year. Veteran detectives can make up to $120,000 a year. This job also comes with a generous retirement package. Many detectives retire after putting in 20 to 25 years of service.

5. Legal Secretary

Total U.S. workers: Approximately 260,000
Growth projection over next 10 years: 18%
Annual salary: $50,000
Entry-level education: College degree

As one would assume, legal secretaries work as secretaries in the legal field. They work primarily for law firms, attorneys and paralegals. They provide clerical assistance, prepare legal documents, motions, subpoenas and complaints. Along with paralegals, legal secretaries often perform research to support case work. While some people might not consider being a legal secretary that glamorous of a career, it’s actually quite exciting. Legal secretaries are involved in many of the same cases that attorneys are involved in but without the stress that attorneys have to deal with. They can also make a very descent living. On average, legal secretaries make around $50,000 a year. However, pay will fluctuate depending on employer (private vs. public) and region.

7 Most Common Collision Repair Tools

There are plenty of auto collision repair tools that are used in the event that your car needs to be fixed. These tools range from being simple and basic, to being highly complex and very expensive. Some tools are used only by the best quality shops, while others are getting creative with the tools they can afford. Here is a quick list of some of the most common collision repair tools available and in use today.

CNC Machine

A Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine is a highly specialized tool that is used in precision cutting and fabricating. Operated by a computer programmer who punches in the dimensions of the cuts, the machine automatically performs many different tasks from milling to lathe operations. This is a major investment, but if you do a lot of fabricating and working from scratch, this is a tool needed for larger shops.

It used to be that if the frame was compromised in any way then the vehicle would be totaled. However, with a frame machine that does not have to be the case anymore. A frame machine is a very advanced piece of machinery that will bend the frame back into place where you could make repairs to it.

There are many types of welders from acetylene torches, to MIG and TIG welders. These can be used for a wide variety of operations, from fabricating a new piece for a vehicle, to cutting away the damaged parts.

This indispensable collision repair tool will help considerably with the amount of time it takes you to complete an auto body repair. For a lot of collision repair large sections of body panels will need to be replaced in order to give a factory finish look. However, this takes a lot of time that is passed onto the customer in billing. With an air flange tool you can easily add a skin to a piece of metal instead of replacing the entire piece.

Painting in auto body is like grease for an auto mechanic. With almost every repair, you are going to have a need to paint something. This is to match the original color, or even to give the entire vehicle a new paint job. The collision repair tools associated with painting are paint spray guns, air compressors, and many different types of nozzles.

Some dents are not easily taken out by replacing a panel. They might be in an older vehicle where you cannot find the parts as readily as you would a newer car. An air hammer will help you coax the metal back into place by working over the entire area. For dents that are creases, instead of simply pushed in, the air hammer moves the metal back into place to smooth out the appearance.

Every collision center will have a full compliment of body shaping tools. For years, instead of replacing body panels, the auto body repair center would basically reshape the body with fiberglass and Bondo. Using sanders, scrapers, and smoothers, a good auto body repairperson could make a smooth, seamless repair.

The 5 Most Common Myths About Rebates

Consumer advocate, former car salesman

Rebates for new cars and trucks are bigger than ever. And unfortunately, so are the confusion and misconceptions about them. To make matters worse, it’s common for some dealerships and car salesmen to purposely mislead you about how rebates work. Well, fear not. Let’s dispel, once and for all, the five common myths about factory-to-customer rebates:

MYTH 1:

Rebates are a bad deal because there is always a catch.

Not true. There is no catch to factory-to-consumer rebates. A rebate is simply free money given to you by the automobile manufacturer as an incentive to buy that particular car. So take the money and smile.

MYTH 2:

Rebates are part of the dealership’s discount.

Despite what an unscrupulous car salesman or Sales Manager may tell you, factory-to-customer rebates are NOT part of the dealership’s discount. Rebates are simply free money given to you by the factory and should not be confused with the negotiated selling price. Be sure that you make clear to the salesman when you are negotiating the price of your new car or truck that the rebate is yours to keep and that the negotiations have nothing to do with the rebate.

MYTH 3:

Rebates are always paid in cold cash.

You have a choice here. You can take the rebate as cash if you wish, in which case the automobile manufacturer will mail you a check. But most folks simply apply the rebate to their down payment and never see the cash. For example, if you applied $1,000 of your own cash plus a $500 rebate to your down payment, your down payment (in most states) would appear in the paperwork as $1,500. In fact, that’s the best option if you plan on financing – and particularly if you don’t have much money to put down. Insiders Tip: If you are short of cash, look for vehicles with big rebates. It’s possible to buy a new car with NO cash simply by using the rebate as your down payment. And there’s sometimes one more option: many automobile manufacturers offer special financing instead of a rebate. That can save you lots of money on financing costs. (See “A Word About Special Financing” below for more info.)

MYTH 4:

Rebates are always subtracted from the negotiated selling price.

Car salesmen (and dealership ads) sometimes infer that the rebate is automatically subtracted from the purchase price “You can buy this $19,000 car for only $18,000 after the $1,000 rebate!” These claims can be misleading. More to the point, they may actually be untrue. In most states, the rebate is considered part of your down payment. If so, the way it works is this: first the dealership adds up the negotiated purchase price, applicable taxes, license fees, doc fees, etc. into a grand total. THEN they subtract the down payment – including the rebate – from that total price. That’s the legal manner in which rebates are handled in most states. NOTE: In some states, the rebate may, indeed, legally be subtracted from the selling price of the vehicle before taxes are added in. Be sure to ask your car salesman about the laws concerning rebates in your state.

MYTH 5:

All rebates are the same nationwide.

Automobile manufacturers can, at any time, access their computers’ databases and instantly know how many vehicles there are “on the ground” (sitting for sale on the dealerships’ lots) across the nation. If there are too many vehicles of a particular model in a particular region, the manufacturer may offer a rebate to consumers as an incentive to buy those cars and get them off the dealerships’ lots. Because the inventory of vehicles varies from region to region and month to month, rebates can also vary from region to region and month to month.

A Word About “Special Financing”

Some auto manufacturers may offer you a choice of taking special low financing (with interest rates sometimes as low as 0%) instead of a rebate. Which is better? If you are short of cash, you’ll probably want to take the rebate and use it for your down payment. If you have ample cash on hand for your down payment, the special financing may be the way to go — you could end up saving hundreds or even thousands of dollars in interest costs over the course of your loan.

  24. Missouri, $1,563
  25. Indiana, $1,518
  26. Colorado, $1,508
  27. Texas, $1,492
  28. Delaware, $1,489

  34. New Hampshire, $1,334
  35. Massachusetts, $1,328
  36. Idaho, $1,325
  37. Alabama, $1,306
  38. Oregon, $1,306
  39. Nevada, $1,300
  40. Illinois, $1,290
  41. Arizona, $1,280

  48. Wisconsin, $1,128
  49. Maine, $1,126

The Most Popular Online Salvage Car Auctions: Bid on a Car Today

An online salvage car auction can be a great way of securing hard to find parts for a car restoration project. When an owner has a totaled car, he’ll often sell or give it to a salvage lot. People looking to buy totaled car parts can inspect the vehicle for any components that may still be viable and ready to sell. An increasing number of these parts are available through online auctions.

Copart USA is one of the best sources for salvage car parts available online. This auction site allows you to search by car make, model, year, part and a number of other factors. Additionally, the wide range of selection that Copart USA offers makes it a great place to find both competitive prices and otherwise hard to find items.

Gov Auctions is a website that sells cars that were previously used and which have been repossessed or claimed by the government. In some cases, these cars are salvage quality and will sell for quite a bit less money than standard cars would. This site has a great selection, but you may have to do some sifting through your options in order to find the salvage car parts that you’re looking for.

Auctions Pass is a third website that provides a great selection of different salvage cars and salvage car parts for your use. With the help of Auctions Pass, you can search through a wide range of locations and sellers to find the best parts and pieces for your needs.

3 Most Dependable Car Transport Companies

One of the most important things that you should keep in mind when moving or purchasing a vehicle from a remote location is that you’ll need a means of dependable car transport in order to transfer your vehicle from one place to another. In some cases it makes sense for you to drive your car between areas; if you’re relocating from one place to another and have to pack up your things into your car, for instance. However, in other cases it is better to use a reliable car shipping service to help transport your car without your needing to be present. If you plan to use a car shipping service, you’ll be best served by reading various car shipping reviews for services in your area in order to determine which companies are the highest rated. Among the highest rated companies are Magic Carpet Auto Transport, AmeriFreight, and Domestic Auto Transport, all of which have brief profiles below.

Magic Carpet Auto Transport

Magic Carpet Auto Transport is based in Washington state, but this highly regarded company provides service throughout the United States and even beyond as well. Magic Carpet Auto Transport has nearly 200 5-star reviews on the comprehensive auto transport ratings site Transport Reviews. This company has consistently been rated amongst the best auto transport services available in the United States by many different customers in a variety of different situations, and it has maintained its status as the number 1 website listed on Transport Reviews for over 2 years now.

Magic Carpet Auto Transport sets itself apart from other similar services by charging no down payment or deposit on the cost of shipping your car. This essentially means that you wait until the car has been shipped in order to pay for the service. Although you negotiate the price beforehand, this gives people the peace of mind necessary to hand their vehicles over to another person or transport company, because they know that the company will have to work that much harder in order to take proper care of their cars.

AmeriFreight

AmeriFreight is a popular choice for auto transport in the United States and abroad. This company is particularly adept at transporting cars from remote locations to the United States or vice versa. If you have purchased or acquired a car or other type of vehicle abroad, or if you’re planning to sell your United States car in a foreign country, AmeriFreight can offer you a safe and reliable transport procedure for a low amount of money. AmeriFreight has an excellent reputation for timeliness and quality of service. Many customers comment on how excellent the overall customer service provided by AmeriFreight is, and the company is also highly rated for protecting cars and transmitting them without damage.

Domestic Auto Transport

Domestic Auto Transport is a company that provides a transparent and easy to use interface to the car transport service industry. This company is both highly rated by customers and by professional clients as well, making it a popular and reliable choice for anyone who needs to ship a car.
