2017 Lincoln Continental, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
The 2016 Detroit Auto Show is now well and truly over, at least for the media, so here’s a look at some of the highlights. Starting things off is the 2017 Lincoln Continental, which goes on sale later this year as the replacement for the aging MKS. Though toned down from last year’s Continental concept, the production version still has plenty of presence and an interior built better than any Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] product we’ve seen in a long time. We’re glad to report that Lincoln finally appears serious about its comeback.
2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class – 2016 Detroit Auto Show live photos
Lincoln’s comeback won’t be an easy road, especially with though competitors like the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which also made its debut in Detroit. The tech-loaded Teutonic sedan is the most advanced offering in the Mercedes lineup and has an interior that wouldn’t look out of place in cars costing double or even triple what the E-Class retails for. Our only gripe is that the exterior styling is a bit too derivative.
2017 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
It wouldn’t be a proper Detroit Auto Show without some awesome pickups and this year’s event didn’t disappoint in this regard. One of the favorites was the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew. Like all SuperCrew versions of the latest F-150, the Raptor SuperCrew features four full-size doors and generous space for rear-seat passengers. This one also packs a V-6 EcoBoost engine powerful enough to outshine some V-8s.
Nissan Titan Warrior Concept, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
Another popular pickup was the Nissan Titan Warrior. The wild concept is based on the diesel-powered Titan XD and hints at what a Nissan rival to the F-150 Raptor above could be like. Will a production version happen? Only time will tell.
2018 Lexus LC 500, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
If you were looking for the car that stole the show, then your search is over. The 2018 Lexus LC impressed almost all with its concept car looks and impeccable interior. The car is the production version of 2012’s LF-LC concept and right now there’s just one variant, the LC 500, which packs a 467-horsepower V-8. An LC 500h hybrid and high-performance LC F are rumored to be in the works, though.
2017 Infiniti Q60, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
The Lexus LC wasn’t the only coupe from a Japanese firm that made its debut in Detroit. Infiniti had its new Q60, which will come onto the market late in the summer with three powertrain choices. The most potent is a twin-turbocharged V-6 good for 400 hp.
VLF Automotive Force 1 – 2016 Detroit Auto Show live photos
One of the big surprises in Detroit was the VLF Force 1. Danish designer Henrik Fisker recently teamed up with Bob Lutz and Gilbert Villarreal over at VL Automotive (now VLF) and together the trio came up with this striking supercar. The car is based on a donor Dodge Viper chassis and is due to go into production in April.
Acura Precision Concept, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
Acura’s Precision concept turned out to be another big surprise of the show. We had a chance to sit down with the concept’s lead designer Michelle Christensen to find out how exactly it relates to Acura’s upcoming products.
Buick Avista Concept, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
When it comes to beautiful cars in Detroit, it’s hard to look past Buick’s Avista concept. The sporty coupe is based on the bones of the Cadillac ATS Coupe and Chevrolet Camaro. Will it be built? Buick won’t say, though the automaker did state that the design will influence future products.
Production-Intent Ford GT, 2016 Detroit Auto Show
Finally, Ford had a new version of its GT supercar on show in Detroit and this one is much closer to the production version due out later this year than any of the cars we’ve seen yet. This one had a number of modifications added to make it ready for the street, and we also got to see the car’s race mode being activated.
