2017 Nissan Sentra vs. 2017 Toyota Corolla Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
Passengers in the back seat will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Toyota Corolla than the Nissan Sentra, due to its greater head- and legroom. Offering just a little more front head- and legroom than the Toyota Corolla, the Nissan Sentra may be a little roomier and more comfortable for the driver and front seat passengers.

Convenience
You’ll be making about the same number of stops at the gas station with the Nissan Sentra as you will with the Toyota Corolla, as they get the same number of miles per tank of gas.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). When looking only at MSRP, the Nissan Sentra will have less of an impact on your bank account than the Toyota Corolla. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it’s built. The Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla have similar Destination Charges.

Dimensions
The Nissan Sentra is about the same width as the Toyota Corolla. When looking at overall length, the Nissan Sentra takes up about the same amount of space in your garage as the Toyota Corolla.

Drivetrain
With similar torque, the Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla do an equal job of transmitting their engine’s power to their wheels.

Handling
The Nissan Sentra has a smaller turning radius than the Toyota Corolla, allowing you to more easily maneuver in and out of tight spots.

Performance
The Nissan Sentra has less horsepower than the Toyota Corolla, so it will probably be somewhat slower.

Utility
In terms of seating you’ll be able to fit the same number of people in both the Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla. The Nissan Sentra has a roomier cargo area for holding your bags or other items than the Toyota Corolla.

Warranty
The Nissan Sentra comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Toyota Corolla.

Michael Iovanna, the president of the auto dealership group based in Lynn, Massachusetts, died in a fatal crash that killed one other male victim in Middleton, friends of the victim told NECN. (Published Monday, Oct. 20, 2014)

Middleton Police Chief James DiGianvittorio said fire shot as high as 30 feet in the air after the crash near the intersection of Peabody Street and Bow Street, near Iovanna’s Mill Street home.

A neighbor described hearing a rocket-like sound before a loud crash. When he ran outside his house, he said the car was on fire.

One of the homeowners called us to let us know that the accident happened, said DiGianvittorio. It appears that it went off the road, spun out and burst into flames.

Police did not know how fast the Ferrari was traveling, but the speed limit on the road is 25 miles per hour.

The investigation is ongoing.

NECN will have more as this story develops.

Tracy Morgan sues Walmart over deadly crash; comic released from rehab center

Story highlights

  • Morgan released from rehab center, to continue recovery at home, his rep says
  • “We’re committed to doing the right thing for all involved,” says Walmart statement
  • Crash injured Morgan and killed his friend
  • Lawsuit is by Morgan and three others, and was filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey

Comedian Tracy Morgan is suing Walmart over a deadly limo bus crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that left him critically injured.

The complaint was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court in New Jersey.

Morgan, 45, suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg in the crash in the early morning hours of June 7. His friend and fellow comedian James McNair was killed and others were injured.

Morgan has been released from a rehabilitation center and will “continue his recovery at home with an aggressive outpatient program,” his representative, Lewis Kay, said Saturday.

“He asked me to pass along his sincerest gratitude to everyone who has helped him get to this point,” Kay said. “He would also appreciate some privacy during this crucial point in his recovery.”

The Walmart truck that rear-ended Morgan’s limo was traveling 20 mph over the speed limit and its driver was almost at his drive time limit, according to a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Photos: Tracy Morgan s comedy career

Morgan has stirred up controversy with some of his comments in his comedy acts. “I hurt people with this, so from the bottom of my heart I apologize to everybody who I offended with my words on stage,” he said in 2011 after an anti-gay rant in one of his shows. Standup comedy should “heal people, not hurt.”

Tracy Morgan promotes his book “I Am The New Black” at Barnes Noble Union Square on October 22, 2009, in New York.

According to the complaint filed by lawyers acting for Morgan and three others, the truck driven by Walmart employee Kevin Roper collided with the rear end of Morgan’s vehicle.

“The defendants’ negligence was a substantial contributing factor in causing plaintiffs’ injuries,” the complaint states.

In a statement, Walmart said the crash had been a “terrible tragedy” and that it wished full recoveries to Morgan and two others injured with him, comedian Ardley Fuqua and Morgan’s personal assistant Jeffrey Millea. The fourth plaintiff in the lawsuit is Millea’s wife, Krista.

“Our thoughts continue to go out to them, their families and friends, as well as to the families and friends of everyone involved, including Mr. McNair who lost his life,” the Walmart statement said.

“We are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved. As we’ve said, we’re cooperating fully in the ongoing investigation. We know it will take some time to resolve all of the remaining issues as a result of the accident, but we’re committed to doing the right thing for all involved.”

Roper, from Jonesboro, Georgia, pleaded not guilty last month to criminal charges that include vehicular homicide and assault by auto.

Kay said that Morgan didn’t have any comment on the lawsuit. He referred all other questions to Morgan’s lawyer, Benedict Morelli.

Morgan was a regular on “Saturday Night Live” for seven years and later received an Emmy nomination for his role in the comedy series “30 Rock.”

The New York City native made his reputation with over-the-top characters and impressions of celebrities such as Mike Tyson and Oprah Winfrey.

Anton Yelchin, actor in ‘Star Trek’ films, dies in freak car accident at age 27

Actor Anton Yelchin, perhaps best known for his role in the new “Star Trek” films, died early Sunday after his vehicle rolled down his Studio City driveway and trapped the actor against a brick post, authorities confirmed.

Friends went to the 27-year-old actor’s gated hillside home shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. when he didn’t show up for a rehearsal as expected, L.A. police Officer Jenny Houser told The Times.

Authorities believe Yelchin’s vehicle rolled backward down the steep driveway, Houser said, pinning him against a brick column and security gate.

Investigators with the Los Angeles County coroner’s office concluded that Yelchin’s death was an accident caused by blunt traumatic asphyxia, Lt. Larry Dietz said. It appeared that Yelchin had not properly put his car in park, Dietz added.

Selena Barros, an investigator with the coroner’s office, said there were “no obvious suspicious circumstances involved.”

Former classmates and local media gathered Sunday afternoon outside Yelchin’s English-style three-bedroom home, which is partly shielded by mature trees and tucked below a winding hillside street above Ventura Boulevard.

The black metal gate that blocked the home’s sloping driveway appeared bent and damaged.

The publicist Jennifer Allen also confirmed Yelchin’s death and said the actor’s family has asked for privacy.

Yelchin was born March 11, 1989, in Russia, the only son of Viktor Yelchin and Irina Korina. His parents were celebrity figure skaters in the former Soviet Union, but when their son was six months old, they fled to the U.S. and settled in Los Angeles.

We were afraid for our son, Viktor Yelchin told The Times in 1989. It is a very bad situation over there. I would get angry, too–I’d say, ‘Why should we have to buy things on the black market? Why should we have to stand in line?’

Yelchin’s parents initially shared an apartment with family but later moved to West Hollywood, an enclave of Russian emigres. His mother’s remarks in 1989 about her young son’s future proved prescient.

Everyone here wants to make movies, Irina Korina said. A woman came up, saw Anton, and said, ‘He’s beautiful. He will be actor.’

Yelchin began acting as a child, picking up roles on television shows and independent films. He starred in the 2007 crime thriller “Alpha Dog” and was in the teen comedy “Charlie Bartlett.”

But his biggest role to date was in the rebooted Star Trek films as the character Chekov. The third installment in the series, Star Trek Beyond, comes out in July.

While pursuing an acting career, he also attended a public magnet school in the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies, from 4th through 12th grade, according to two former classmates who paid tribute Sunday afternoon outside Yelchin’s home.

“He didn’t really like the business, but he loved acting,” said the former classmate who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Yelchin, he said, admired global cinema and valued intellectually stimulating discussions on politics and philosophy.

“It was not about celebrity. He was about acting,” the friend said.

Drake Doremus, who directed Yelchin in the 2011 film “Like Crazy,” praised the late actor for his humor and charm and offered condolences to his family.

“Anton was one of a kind. Such an old soul who was one of the most sincere but also funniest people I have ever met,” Doremus said in a statement. “He taught me what being a humble and hard working artist is all about.”

Doremus added: “His laugh was the best sound in the world, it was so contagious and comforting. He was always up to something to make you laugh especially if you were getting frustrated or being too serious.”

Justin Lin, director of the “Star Trek Beyond,” due out next month, tweeted: “Still in shock. Rest in peace, Anton. Your passion and enthusiasm will live on with everyone that had the pleasure of knowing you.”

J.J. Abrams. who directed Yelchin in 2009’s “Star Trek” and 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness,” tweeted a photo of a handwritten note that reads: “You were brilliant. You were kind. You were funny as hell. And you weren’t here nearly long enough. Missing you, JJ.”

2017 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2017 Toyota Tundra Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
Due to its greater head- and legroom, passengers in the extended cab will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Toyota Tundra than in the Toyota Tacoma. As far as headroom and legroom go, there’s not much difference between the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tundra.

Convenience
You’ll be making about the same number of stops at the gas station with the Toyota Tacoma as you will with the Toyota Tundra, as they can travel a similar number of miles on a tank of gas.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Clearly, the Toyota Tacoma is a better financial choice over the Toyota Tundra, when considering MSRP. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it’s built. The Toyota Tacoma carries a much lower Destination Charge than the Toyota Tundra.

Dimensions
Since the Toyota Tacoma is much slimmer than the Toyota Tundra, it’ll be much easier to find a wide enough space in a crowded parking lot. If you go with the Toyota Tacoma, you’ll have a much easier time finding a large enough space to park than you will with the Toyota Tundra.

Drivetrain
With its lower torque engine, the Toyota Tacoma doesn’t do as good a job transmitting horsepower to its wheels as the Toyota Tundra.

Handling
The Toyota Tacoma has a smaller turning radius than the Toyota Tundra, allowing you to more easily get in and out of tight spots.

Performance
If you’ve got something you need to tow, the Toyota Tacoma will do just as well as the Toyota Tundra, since they have about the same towing capacity. The Toyota Tacoma has a little less horsepower than the Toyota Tundra.

Utility
The Toyota Tacoma has less seating than the Toyota Tundra, making the Toyota Tundra the better choice if you often have passengers.

Warranty
The Toyota Tacoma comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Toyota Tundra.

How to File an Auto Insurance Claim

Knowing what to do when you have an auto insurance claim can help you avoid some of the headaches, heartache and red tape involved in tackling the process. It can also help you get better value for your insurance dollars. If your car is involved in an accident, if it is damaged by fire, flood or vandalism, or if it is stolen, put your insurance to work for you by following these steps in filing your claim:

Phone your insurance agent or a local company representative. Do it as soon as possible even if you’re far from home and even if someone else caused the accident. Ask your agent how to proceed and what forms or documents will be needed to support your claim. Your company may require a “proof of loss” form, as well as documents relating to your claim, such as medical and auto repair bills and a copy of the police report.

  • Insurance consumers make their own choice when selecting an auto body repair shop to fix their car. Many states, including Colorado, have laws that prohibit steering to specific repair shops.
    • Make sure you hire an auto body shop that provides guarantees and specific timelines on repairs. Your insurance policy has certain limits and deductibles, so find out settlement amounts before you sign off on repair costs. If you don’t know where to take your vehicle to be fixed, most insurance companies will provide you with a list of repair shops that are backed by repair and labor guarantees. Also visit: Colorado Auto Body Repair Poll
    • Supply the information your insurer needs. Cooperate with your insurance company in its investigation, settlement or defense of any claim, and turn over to the company immediately copies of any legal papers you receive in connection with your loss. Your insurer will represent you if a claim is brought against you and defend you if you are sued as the result of an accident.

Keep records of your expenses. Expenses you incur as a result of an automobile accident may be reimbursed under your policy. Remember, for example, that your no-fault insurer usually will pay your medical and hospital expenses, and possibly such other costs as lost wages and at least part of your costs if you have to hire a temporary housekeeper.

Keep copies of your paper work. Store copies of all paper work in your own files. You may need to refer to it later.

Talk things over with your agent or an adjuster if you are dissatisfied with the settlement offer. Check your policy to see what settlement steps it outlines.

What NOT to do after a car crash:

      • Move any injured persons.
      • Apologize for the crash.
      • Tell any party how much insurance you carry.
      • Accept any money. If you do, you forfeit your right to file a claim.
      • Agree to forget about the accident. Later on, the other person may file a lawsuit against you.

Questions to ask your agent or company representative:

      • Am I covered for these losses?
      • What is my deductible?
      • How long will it take to process my claim?
      • Does my policy have a time limit on filing a claim?
      • Is there a time limit during which claims must be resolved after they are filed?
      • What are those time limits?

So, I’ve filed my claim. How is it processed?

First of all, the insurance company must confirm that your policy is in effect and that the accident is covered. After that is determined, your claim may be assigned to a claims adjuster. The adjuster will look at the damages to your car, evaluate the loss and figure out how much you can claim under your policy. This figure will be the insurance company’s estimate of what they will pay to repair your car the total claim payment.

You can often save money by going to a mechanic recommended by your insurance company or using generic auto parts for repairs. However, if you feel uncomfortable with their recommendations, remember that it’s your option to get an estimate from another mechanic. In fact insurance companies can’t make you go to just one place for repairs, but they can ask that you get more than one estimate to make sure that they don’t pay an inflated repair bill.

      Special Claim Problems & Questions

      Q. What if I’m sued for more than my policy limit?

      A. Your insurance company will defend you if you are sued, however they may recommend that you get a lawyer. Why? Remember that your insurance company is only at risk for its policy limit. You are responsible for any remaining amount. For example, if you are sued for $1 million and your policy limit is only $300,000, you are responsible for $700,000.

      Q. What if I am a passenger involved in an accident?

      A. Like the driver, collect all important information names, addresses, license numbers, policy numbers, etc. How much you will collect for damages depends on how well insured the other drivers are. As a passenger, you can collect for damages from one of two ways: 1) under your driver’s medical payments coverage or 2) filing a claim against the at-fault driver’s liability coverage.

      Q. Can I accept a cash advance to have repair done on my car without forfeiting my right for additional money for repairs?

      A. Yes, unless you sign an agreement that releases the insurance company from paying you additional money.

      Q. What if my car is declared a total loss?

      A. If your car is declared a total loss, your insurance company will pay you for its value by using references such as the “blue book” and/or by consulting car dealers. Be aware that the specific condition of your vehicle, including mileage or the tires, influences how much your vehicle is worth. If you feel you deserve more, consult your agent or company.

      Q. What if I don’t report an accident to my insurance company?

      A. You should report all accidents even if you don’t end up filing a claim. If you don’t report it, you run the risk of being sued by the other persons involved in the accident and your insurance company will be at a disadvantage in defending you.

      Q. What if I loan my car to a friend who causes an accident, is he or she covered?

      A. Under most circumstances, someone using your car with your permission is covered by your insurance. In most cases, your insurance will treat it just as if you were the driver.

      Q. Will my rates go up or will I lose my insurance if I get into an accident or get a ticket?

      A. If you are not at fault in the crash, your insurance is usually not affected. If you are at fault, get a ticket for a serious violation (i.e. drunk driving) or are involved in a costly property damage claim (i.e. crash into a tree), your rates may increase at the time of policy renewal because you will be categorized into a higher risk group of people. The same rule generally applies if you get three traffic tickets within three to five years.

    Auto Crash Parts

Things changed in the 1970’s and 1980’s. More and more after market auto crash part manufacturers entered the market. This change occurred primarily due to two reasons:

Unreasonable and irrational pricing policies of the car manufacturers as far as auto crash parts were concerned. Improvements in technology that made it easier for others to manufacture auto crash parts of the same specifications as that of the original equipment manufacturer.

Auto crash parts are automobile parts that are fitted on the outside of the vehicle.

Why these parts are called crash parts or collision parts? Since these parts are fitted to the outside of the vehicle, these parts bear the brunt of damage in the event of any accident or crash. Further, an auto crash part is rarely replaced unless a.The car owner wants to redesign the car to make it look different. Or b.The automobile has been involved in an accident which has made it imperative that the external part be replaced Until the 1970’s, these crash parts were manufactured by the car makers themselves. At that point of time, it was felt that only the manufacturer of the automobile would be in a position to provide replacements as well. This was in sync with all other industries and products. The manufacturer who makes the entire product is invariably trusted to manufacture the spares as well.

The car makers had a virtual monopoly in the industry as far as auto crash parts were concerned. This meant that the car makers had no incentive to improvise and innovate. They priced the parts as they pleased and sought outrageous profit margins on these products. The end result was that car owners often felt short changed by the policies of the car makers.

Secondly, when the after market manufacturers entered the market, the public realized that they were being charged in excess of 40-50% on these parts. Further, the public got much better service from these crash auto parts makers as compared to the car manufacturers. The combination of cheaper products combined with better service made these part manufacturers seem like a much better option as compared to the original car makers. The earliest cars used wooden auto crash parts. The cars were treated as an extension to the buggy carriage. However, the first major event in the manufacture of auto crash parts took place when makers shifted from wood to metal. Iron was used first. Then, the car makers moved on to steel and aluminum. Emphasis was on keeping these body parts as light as possible without compromising on strength. This was because these body parts would bear the first impact of any crash. Strong auto crash parts are essential to safeguard the occupants of the car. Check out auto crash parts manufactured by numerous makers at autocrashparts.com
