Vacanze low cost e last minute: i siti per prenotare voli, pacchetti e alloggi

Scegliere la tariffa aerea meno costosa fissando solo l’aeroporto di partenza, scambiare casa o scegliere un divano per non pagare un albergo e confrontarsi con gli altri utenti sulle community online. Ecco come fare

Siti, offerte, last minute.

Today consumers are faced with more choices than ever, especially when it comes to their insurance needs. Choosing the right company and coverage can seem like an overwhelming task, with hundreds of insurance companies offering thousands of products, each with its own rates, fees, terms and conditions. So, if you are tired of paying too much money on auto insurance and want to cut your auto insurance bill by up to 70%, enter your zip code above and get free quotes from one or more of the companies that provides the cheapest rates in your area.

The fact is, unless you shop around for better rates, most insurance companies keep raising rates every year on their existing customers even if they have a perfect driving record. Below are some of the easy ways you can reduce auto insurance rates.

Raise Deductible Choosing higher deductibles for your comprehensive and collision coverage will reduce your car insurance premiums quite a bit. For vehicles that are more than five years old and/or are worth only few thousand dollars, you may want to drop the comprehensive and collision coverage altogether and keep only the minimum state liability requirements.

Check Credit People with good credit scores usually get the best insurance rates. Over time, paying your bills on time and keeping your credit balances low will improve your credit ratings. Also be sure you check your credit scores regularly so you can identify and correct any errors.

Get Discounts One of the most easiest ways to reduce your rates is to take advantage of discounts offered by insurance companies. For example, you may get a discount if you park your car on a driveway or garage instead of street parking, if you have taken a defensive driving class, if you are a good student who receives good grades, have short commute to work or school, or if you have anti-theft devices installed on your vehicle.

How Much Does it Cost to Paint a Car?

The Process

A good paint job for a car requires extensive preparation, pricey materials and specialized skills. For this reason, the first factor in the price of painting a car will be the quality of work and the amount of time a garage puts into the job. First, the vehicle will be washed, the original paints will be sanded down and the chrome and windows will be covered. After the preparation has been completed, a thick primer is applied to smooth the body panels and provide some material for final sanding and smoothing. Next comes one or more layers of colored paint, often topped by a clear coat that adds some protection and depth of shine. Sometimes the clear coat is tinted with pigment, or contains additives for various finishes. Different paint shops may treat each stage differently. Some may run through preparation quickly, while others will take the time to do detailed work. The quality of work depends on what a consumer is willing to pay for the job.

Materials

Besides the cost of labor, several materials are included in the cost of painting a car. Someone who decides to paint his own car should expect to purchase some specialized tools such as a spray gun and covers for windows and chrome. Those who go to a garage will still be paying for primer, paint and the clear coatings. Because several layers of each paint are required, a full complement of decent materials can fall in the range of $1,000 to $1,500. But like everything else, these prices can change dramatically based upon quality. Top-of-the-line paints that change colors, or contain metallic, pearlescent or iridescent additives can cost more than $5,000, while the most basic varieties can be found for only a few hundred dollars. Some colors, especially reds, can also cost more. Vehicle size is an obvious if often overlooked consideration, because it takes three times as much paint to cover a Hummer as a Geo Metro.

Labor

Labor costs vary greatly in different areas. While quick paint jobs can be found for under $500, preparation is usually nonexistent and the application of paint tends to be uneven and sloppy. Most garages will complete the entire process from preparation to finish for $2,000 to $3,000 in labor. The cost of labor will also rise and fall with the size of a vehicle, largely because of the preparation process. Many garages include minor body work such as the removal of scratches and small dents during a paint job, but the best will take the time to sculpt a vehicle’s panels into dead-straight canvases for the thin paint to lie on. Often, it’s this preparation that makes the difference between a bargain re-spray and a stunning showpiece. Upper-end labor costs can reach $50,000 or more, but these prices tend to be reserved for vehicles that require lots of body preparation, or get specialized paint jobs like fades, two-tones, stripes or pinstriping, or candy colors that require very experienced painters.

Final Prices

With the combination of labor and materials, a typical decent paint job will be in the range of $3,000 to $4,500. It’s also worth bearing in mind that changing the color of a vehicle’s paint from stock can add 25 percent or more to the price, because the painters have to paint under the hood, inside the door jambs, under the trunk lid, and anywhere else the factory paint will show. The labor costs alone for a full color change can add up quickly, as all of these difficult-to-reach areas must be stripped, sanded, masked and primed like any other.

Saving Money

Certainly, you can save a lot of money spraying the vehicle yourself — but that isn’t usually practical given the buy-in cost of tools and materials, and the expertise required to lay down a good paint job. The reality is that very few first paint jobs end up as cheap as expected, or look like anything you’d want your friends to see; so it’s probably best to leave the spraying itself to professionals. But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck paying full shop prices. Prep work is something most moderately adept people can do at home, and the materials to do it are generally cheap and readily available. Putting in some elbow grease beforehand, and showing up at the paint shop with your car on a trailer, already smoothed, sanded and masked can easily cut thousands off the price of the total job. And you should get your car back in a few days, instead of a few weeks or even months.

Two of the most comprehensive websites for car-repair costs are AutoMD and RepairPal, which are both free to use. Launched in 2010, AutoMD is owned by US Auto Parts, an online auto parts retailer. It is staffed of a team of automotive data specialists and certified auto mechanics, using data based on average labor costs by ZIP code, time to repair and real-time pricing data on parts. RepairPal was founded in 2007 by a group of auto enthusiasts and entrepreneurs. It creates its estimates based on real-world data, including actual car-repair invoices, labor rates and parts costs.

Both AutoMD and RepairPal offer repair cost estimates based on ZIP code for regular maintenance as well as car repairs, with pricing estimates at a dealership or an independent mechanic. AutoMD also adds cost estimates for do-it-yourselfers.

Testing with sample repairs on each site showed that the estimates were in the same range on both sites. RepairPal’s estimate provides a range for the overall cost as well as breaks down ranges for labor and parts. The AutoMD repair estimate is more comprehensive, also containing the exact time estimate for the car repair as well as the labor rate and parts costs at a dealer and an independent mechanic. As a result, it makes it easier for the consumer to make adjustments if the labor rate at a shop is higher or lower.

Consumers can easily print out the estimate to show to a mechanic. For those who are in need of a mechanic, both sites provide a comprehensive list of shops based on the ZIP code entered. RepairPal’s list shows the shops on a map and provides shop details such as hours, specialties and reviews. AutoMD’s list takes things a step further, showing how many AutoMD users have requested quotes from the business and the type of quotes, and it shows the number of mechanics. It also specifies whether the shop uses Mitchell or Chilton labor standards and if it installs parts shipped by AutoMD partners.

While these sites help arm consumers with solid information to help ensure they are not getting taken advantage of, consumers still need to decide between using a dealer or an independent shop and whether it makes sense to save a few dollars by using aftermarket parts instead of original equipment parts.

The Truth About Dealer Cost

Looking to buy a new car or truck at the lowest possible price? Then you need to know the true dealer cost of the new vehicle you re looking to buy. True dealer cost is definitely not the sticker price, or even the factory invoice price. The true dealer cost is the real price, the actual price, the dealer paid for the new vehicle you want!

Let s start from the beginning new car dealers must keep well-stocked showrooms and lots, to allow consumers to view and test drive new vehicles. The cost of this inventory is paid for by the dealership. To recuperate this cost, the dealer must sell the new vehicle. To assist dealerships, car manufactures provide what is called the dealer holdback.

The dealer holdback is a percentage of a new vehicle s value that is paid back to the dealer by the manufacturer. This amount is to help the dealership cover various sales expenses such as advertising, commissions, and stocking their show rooms. The longer a new car sits on the lot, the more it costs the dealer, cutting into holdback profits.

The secret is, armed with the true dealer cost of the vehicle you want you can easily negotiate a great low price. This basic understanding of new car pricing will put you on a level playing field with the dealer. Thanks to this hidden potential profit, dealerships don t have to sell at MSRP or sticker price they don t even have to sell at factory invoice.

Simply put, dealerships have plenty of room to negotiate. It s also in their best interest to sell inventory quickly to make the most out of dealer holdback. By shopping at pre-qualified dealerships that aim to move inventory and are willing to negotiate, you can save thousands.

How Much Do Braces Cost for Kids?

Being a parent is expensive. But you always want the best for your children, and that includes finding ways to afford the orthodontic treatment they need, even though it may be difficult. So how much do braces cost for kids? First, it’s necessary to identify the type of braces for your child and the duration of the treatment. This will help you understand your options in providing the very best care for your investment.

According to Jorgensen Orthodontics. children are typically fitted for braces not much later than 12 years of age, after they’ve lost all of their baby teeth and their 12-year molars have erupted. Although the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) recommends that children receive their first orthodontic screening by the age of seven years, braces that are fitted too early can make the treatment take longer than necessary – and cost more.

If your orthodontist identifies an incorrect bite or potential for crowding during the screening exam, he can sometimes take what is called “interceptive” action to prevent the problem from playing out or getting worse. This can include fitting a palatal expander or other appliance to ensure that the permanent teeth erupt in the right position. The exam might also highlight the need to control habits such as thumb-sucking, which can cause damage to a child’s mouth over time.

The braces your orthodontist recommends will depend on your child’s particular problem. Types of braces include:

  • Traditional metal braces – Have steel ties holding the wires between the brackets in place.
  • Damon braces – They do not have steel ties, as the brackets themselves hold the wires in place.
  • Invisalign ® (or other clear or removable aligners) – Fit over the child’s teeth in a way that resembles a mouth guard.

In addition to appliances like an expander, your orthodontist might also recommend the use of headgear or a Forsus or Herbst device to use in conjunction with braces to correct problems affecting your child’s natural bite.

Variations in Treatment Costs

Determining how much braces cost for kids depends mainly on the length of time your child will need to wear them. According to the Consumer Guide for Dentistry. the cost of wearing braces ranges between $3,000 and $7,000 – with respect to the type of braces recommended – for the following reasons:

With traditional braces. the cost is driven by what the orthodontist will charge for the orthodontic treatment for your child’s case which include multiple visits during the time it takes to straighten his teeth over a year to three year period.

Damon braces are typically more expensive initially and can cost up to $8,000, but because the braces are self-ligating, you’ll pay for fewer dental appointments.

With Invisalign ®. your child will receive a number of aligners to use in a specific order, changing every couple of weeks. The cost is determined by the number of aligners needed to achieve the right result.

If your child needs to have teeth extracted or fitted with other appliances, overall cost of the treatment may go up as needed.

The way your child complies with the orthodontist’s instructions matters as well, because repair and replacement affects the overall cost of treatment. Make sure your young one avoids tooth decay while wearing braces by using products such as Colgate ® 2in1 for kids, an anticavity fluoride toothpaste that comes in fun fruit flavors.

For patients without insurance, many orthodontists who distribute Invisalign ® offer flexible payment plans with no down payment and low interest rates. If you have insurance, it might cover a portion of the cost, particularly the dental appointments needed. The treatment is usually eligible for flexible savings account (FSA) reimbursement, too.

If you can handle it without financial aid, however, pay in advance for some or all of the treatment, which typically qualifies you for a discount. It’s not just about asking, “how much do braces cost for kids?” It’s about getting the right orthodontic treatment for your child, and at the right time.

Life Insurance Cost

The first two questions most people ask when they look into life insurance coverage are very often: “How much will it cost?” and “How much do I need?” Life insurance costs can be a challenge to calculate because there are several types of life insurance, including whole life, universal life and term life insurance. The cost of life insurance is unique to each individual and depends on the type of policy you choose, the amount of coverage you want, and factors such as your age and overall health.

Comparing online life insurance rates can be a good way to get an idea of what you might pay in premiums. But to get a customized plan that fully meets your needs and budget, it is a good idea to work directly with an agent. For detailed answers and a review of your situation, contact an independent agent in the Trusted Choice ® network who specializes in life insurance. An local member agent in your area can help you evaluate your options and provide a customized quote.

Factors That Affect Your Life Insurance Costs

  • Age: Overall, life insurance rates increase as you age.
  • Health profile: Do you have any chronic conditions? Do you smoke?
  • Gender: Women live longer, statistically, and typically pay lower life insurance costs.
  • Occupation: Receptionist? Machine operator? Sky diving instructor? Yes, it matters.
  • Exams: “No exam” life insurance quotes are available, but are typically more expensive.

To look at some average life insurance rates, we will review several scenarios. Why? Because the average cost of life insurance for a 30 year old male who smokes is very different from the average cost for a 30 year old female with a clean bill of health. To illustrate the range of costs associated with life insurance, the following section will give some hypothetical scenarios for you to think about before you buy a plan.

The Average Cost of Whole Life Insurance

The following average costs were calculated using the following assumptions:

  1. The individuals are a healthy weight and do not live a hazardous lifestyle.
  2. They want $500,000 worth of life insurance.
  3. They want monthly “level pay” (same payments for the duration of the policy).

The average costs will differ when any of the variables change. For example, a 35 year old female nonsmoker would pay an average of $731.57 if she wanted 1,000,000 worth of whole life insurance or about $188.36 for $250,000 worth of whole life insurance.

The Average Cost of Term Life Insurance

The following average costs were calculated using these assumptions:

  1. The individuals are a healthy weight and do not live a hazardous lifestyle.
  2. They want $500,000 worth of life insurance.
  3. They want to pay monthly for a 20-year term policy.

Again, the average costs will differ when any of these variables change. For example, a 35 year-old female nonsmoker would pay an average of $61 per month for $1,000,000 worth of life insurance with a 20-year term, and $23.90 per month for $250,000 worth of life insurance with a 20-year term.

Does Life Insurance Cost More in Certain Regions of the U.S.?

There can be some differences in your life insurance costs, depending upon your state and region. Life insurance companies use “mortality tables” to help predict the benefits they are likely to pay in a given year. Why? Because the amount they collect in premiums must be less than what they pay out in benefits, and these actuarial tables ensure that they will not end up in a deficit.

Some factors that may be taken into account to calculate your life insurance costs in your region include:

  • Whether there is a high rate of obesity in your state or region
  • If the area experiences a high rate of deadly natural disasters, such as earthquakes
  • If the region is prone to certain diseases, such as black lung disease typical in miners
  • If the state or region has a high mortality rate due to crime
  • How many policies have been written in that area

Even with these factors taken into consideration, rates do not typically vary significantly from region to region. For example, if you live in an area prone to earthquakes and high crime, your life insurance rates will be affected more by your age and personal health profile than where you choose to live.

How to Lower Your Life Insurance Costs

Because health and lifestyle play a key role in determining your life insurance rates, the key things you can do to lower your payments have to do with improving your health and reducing your risk of chronic conditions like diabetes or cancer. Being a non-smoker is perhaps the most critical choice you can make to reduce your life insurance rates, but there are many more things you can do as well.

  • Maintain a healthy weight to reduce the risk of obesity and related chronic conditions.
    • Get a body mass index (BMI) check done
    • If you have a high BMI, work with a health professional to lose excess weight
  • Maintain your heart health to reduce the risk of hypertension, heart attack and stroke.
    • Get an annual physical
    • Regularly check your blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels
    • Work with a health professional to improve your numbers, if needed
    • Reduce stress, improve your diet and increase exercise
  • Manage your blood sugar to reduce the risk of diabetes.
    • Request a blood sugar test
    • Obtain a diet and exercise plan to help manage blood sugar levels

In addition to assessing your overall health, most life insurance companies will also review your risk of death from a high risk sport or work related accident. For this reason, your career choices and the activities you choose to do for fun can also impact your life insurance rates. If you work at a desk job, versus a career as a skydiving instructor, under-water welder or a rodeo clown, you will find that more insurance companies will be willing to insure you at a more affordable rate.

To get more information on life insurance rates, find an independent agent in the Trusted Choice network today. An agent right in your area can help you evaluate your life insurance options and costs based on your unique circumstances.

The SSAE 18 Reporting Standard SOC 1 SOC 2 SOC 3 Support and Guidance for SSAE18, SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 reporting standards

Some organizations have heard of SAS 70, SSAE 16. and soon to be SSAE 18. but, don t really know WHY they need to pay to have a bunch of auditors trounce through their company for a month or two during the year, especially right after their financial audit just finished.
The answer is simple: Many companies will not even think about using your company to perform services for them without a clean Type II Report in place.
Some benefits of having an SSAE 16 performed :

  • Ability to perform outsourcing services for Public Companies.
    • If performing financially significant duties for a Public Company, they are required to use a SSAE 16 qualified provider as it is the only way to give investors assurance over controls that are not performed by the Company in question.
  • Public and Private companies are more likely to trust your organization with their data.
    • If you were to trust a company with your data, you would want complete assurance it will be handled with the utmost care
  • A year round accessible knowledge source (your auditors).
    • As a service organization, large or small, you will always have questions regarding your business and having a set of auditors in place with access to a wide array of business knowledge, it will allow you to bounce your questions and concerns off of a group of trusted individuals.
  • A third party to review your controls and activities to ensure they are functioning appropriately, and give advice on how to improve upon them.
    • Sometimes your internal audit department is good, but, not always as stringent as they should be. This will help to serve as a check on their work, as well as your staff. Additionally, if there were any findings noted, your auditors are in a great position to give you some tricks and tips to improve to ensure everything functions well the following period.
  • Improving performance of the organization.
    • Just the knowledge that a review is being performed of an employee s work that can have far reaching consequences for the company as a whole. No more, Oh, I didn t realize that reviewing user access was THAT important to do this month, sorry , now, everyone knows that if it s not done, the success or failure of the organization could rest upon them.

Think of the SSAE 16 or SSAE-18 audit as an annual investment into your company, increasing potential new clients. productivity and accountability .

This tip is focused on designing controls that reflect the process being testing, if they don t, a headache of massive proportions will be created once testing begins.
What do you do to make sure you don t screw this up? Have as many meetings as it takes to get it right.
What you need to do is sit down with the auditors, the department lead, the main employees responsible for performing the process, and anyone else whom could either play a role in testing or modifying the control in the future. Once that is done, Management should discuss what they determined the control to be and how it should operate, that is then reviewed by the auditors, and then the employees performing the tasks should be reconsulted to verify that the control still reflects their process accurately.
Many times people try to speed this process up and half-ass it, leaving many open items which upon testing could easily blow up into a huge problem. When the control isn t 100% agreed upon prior to testing and a deviation is noted, it s a tough call between failing the control and the ability to adjust it to accurately reflect the process. The problem is modifying a control after testing has begun is not proper and needs to be avoided at all costs.
Locking the controls locked down early on could save weeks in wrapping up your new SSAE 16 Report.
We have seen issues like this cause delays in issuing of the report to the client and running additional fees, since adjusting controls isn t free. Coming from the perspective of the auditor, we can let you know the pitfalls, consequences and how to best navigate the audit process. If you have any comments or questions please leave them below!

A SOC 1 Report (System and Organization Controls Report ) is a report on Controls at a Service Organization which are relevant to user entities’ internal control over financial reporting. The SOC1 Report is what you would have previously considered to be the standard SAS70, complete with a Type I and Type II reports, but falls under the SSAE 16 guidance (and soon to be SSAE 18 ).

Please see the following articles discussing the SSAE 16 guidance and additional information related to the SOC 1 (Type I and Type II) Reports:

In addition to the SOC 1 report which is restricted to controls relevant to an audit of a user entity’s financial statements, the SOC 2 and SOC 3 reports have been created to address controls relevant to operations and compliance and will be discussed in further detail in the future.

Please see the SOC 1 Reporting Guide page for additional information.

SSAE 16 is an enhancement to the current standard for Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization, the SAS70. The changes made to the standard will bring your company, and the rest of the companies in the US, up to date with new international service organization reporting standards, the ISAE 3402. The adjustments made from SAS 70 to SSAE 16 will help you and your counterparts in the US compete on an international level; allowing companies around the world to give you their business with complete confidence .

SSAE16 is now effective as of June 15, 2011, and if you have not made the necessary adjustments required, now is the time to find a quality provider to discuss the proper steps. All organizations are now required to issue their Service Auditor Reports under the SSAE 16 standards in an SOC 1 Report.

The soon to be effective, SSAE-18. is expected to follow a similar reporting structure to the SSAE-16 within a SOC 1 report.

Who Needs an SSAE 16 (SOC 1 ) Audit?

If your Company (the Service Organization ) performs outsourced services that affect the financial statements of another Company (the User Organization ), you will more than likely be asked to provide an SSAE16 Type II Report, especially if the User Organization is publicly traded.
Some example industries include:

  • Payroll Processing
  • Loan Servicing
  • Data Center /Co-Location/Network Monitoring Services
  • Software as a Service (SaaS )
  • Medical Claims Processors

What you Need to Know:

Before starting the SSAE 16 process, there are a number of considerations one must take into account that can save considerable time, effort, and money in the long run. Use the following items as a mini checklist for yourself:

  • Does my Company need an SSAE16, or, are we doing it just because someone asked?
  • Reports on the low end can run at least $15,000 a year, will the business lost be less of a burden than the cost of the report itself?
  • Does your company have defined Business Process and IT controls in place, or, will you need assistance developing and implementing them (readiness assessment)?
  • Have you determined the controls in place which affect the outsourced services being provided?
  • Have key stakeholders been defined and included in discussions?

There are many other issues to consider before engaging a CPA firm to help with your SSAE 16, for a more detailed checklist please see The SSAE 16 Checklist

You may have heard SSAE-18 is on the horizon for reports issued as of May 1, 2017. There are some important updates discussed in here: SSAE-18 An Update to SSAE-16 .

As the standard is formalized and the date approaches we will continue to provide more information to help you prepare for these changes.

Compressors are the most expensive component in an A/c, but even still they are not that expensive. A 3-3 1/2 ton, 12 SEER compressor costs a repair person [who buys wholesale] about $350-$450 (typical 3 ton COPELAND compressor used by most AC units). You often replace the dryer on the unit too (the big round tube soldered in on the line), that’s another $50-$80, and usually the thing that causes your compressor to go bad is the condensor fan is not cooling the unit properly. that’s another $50 – $100.

The controller boards and caps usually aren’t replaced during a compressor replacement, but the sales person will talk you into it. Don’t do it until they can prove those components are bad.

I’m not an HVAC person but I have replaced my own compressor, fans, caps, etc. The compressor requires freon which means you’ll be REQUIRED to get a qualified HVAC guy to cycle your lines (3 times) after the compressor is installed.

Installing a compressor yourself:

Buy the same brand compressor, makes life a lot easier with the wiring and copper tube connections.

Use MAP gas and 50% silver solder, do not use flux. The soldering technique is the same for copper water pipes, no different.

Total cost to replacement pump, fan, and drier: $723. Average cost of a quote I received: $1900. THe unit cost $2600 and is 7 years old. Stupid, huh? If you want a higher SEER A/c, simple. SEER is rated at the PUMP, not the coil. so, install a better pump with a higher SEER! Ta-da.

Best tip anyone can give you when it comes to an A/c unit: Change your condensor fan every 5 years no matter what. They are cheap motors and take about 30 minute to install. You can also just take them apart and clean the insides. all of them are brushless, they tend to go bad because dust and grim get in them. 4 screws hold it together, remove them, pull the spindle out, wipe it off, put a little grease on it, put back together. you’re good for another 5 years. If you can pump gas in your car, you can replace the condenser motor AND replace the capacitors. they are, in reality, no brainers.

I have been in the industry for more than 15 years on the Gulf coast and i totally disagree. Not just anyone can replace a compressor. First how do you know it’s the compressor? Second, what caused the failure? Was it a burnout? Why would I need to know if it was a burnout? What must I do if it was a burnout? Not to mention the possibility of electrocuting yourself. Next you use 15% silver solder not 50%. What are the dangers of soldering? What happens with oil residue in the refrigerant lines? What happens when flame is introduced to freon and freon residue in the lines? Ever heard of phosgene gas? What about the Oxygen Depletion Potential of freon? You know suffocating? What about how inhaling freon causes heart arrhythmia? Frost bite? What about refrigerant recovery and disposal? What about evacuating the system? A/C systems, are very susceptible to moisture and other non condensibles. Next freon. What type? How are you going to purchase replacement freon with no EPA certification? What about the life threatening dangers of freon? How much freon do you add? You just can’t go by the factory charge on the nameplate. You have to take into account many factors and then calculate your super heat and subcooling in order to achieve a proper charge.
There are so many things to consider before trying to tackle something like this. If injury or death doesn’t deter you, then the fact that you did it yourself will probably void any warranty that come with your $1000 compressor should. I can look up how to do an appendectomy online and get step by step instructions but I’m pretty sure most people would agree to just get someone who has been properly schooled and trained to do it. This is not like changing a fuse or the oil in your car. You could die or even possibly kill someone else many different ways if you don’t know what you are doing and I would never recommend a compressor change out as a DIY project for a novice.

Actually a license is only required if your system uses R22 freon, which of course most old systems do. If you have or are replacing with system with a R410-A refrigerant, no license is required. So long as your not touching a R22 system, your fine. If your replacing a R22 system with a R410-A system you need a licensed HVAC contractor to recover the R22 refrigerant from the old system before removing it.

If you haven’t mastered the mysteries of the circuit broker or equipment disconnect, you probably shouldn’t be doing anything yourself.

Pretty much anything you touch now a days voids the warranty. I wouldn’t mass with the R22, but I wouldn’t let a little thing like voiding the warranty stop me from working on it.

2017 Nissan Sentra vs. 2017 Toyota Corolla Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
Passengers in the back seat will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Toyota Corolla than the Nissan Sentra, due to its greater head- and legroom. Offering just a little more front head- and legroom than the Toyota Corolla, the Nissan Sentra may be a little roomier and more comfortable for the driver and front seat passengers.

Convenience
You’ll be making about the same number of stops at the gas station with the Nissan Sentra as you will with the Toyota Corolla, as they get the same number of miles per tank of gas.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). When looking only at MSRP, the Nissan Sentra will have less of an impact on your bank account than the Toyota Corolla. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it’s built. The Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla have similar Destination Charges.

Dimensions
The Nissan Sentra is about the same width as the Toyota Corolla. When looking at overall length, the Nissan Sentra takes up about the same amount of space in your garage as the Toyota Corolla.

Drivetrain
With similar torque, the Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla do an equal job of transmitting their engine’s power to their wheels.

Handling
The Nissan Sentra has a smaller turning radius than the Toyota Corolla, allowing you to more easily maneuver in and out of tight spots.

Performance
The Nissan Sentra has less horsepower than the Toyota Corolla, so it will probably be somewhat slower.

Utility
In terms of seating you’ll be able to fit the same number of people in both the Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla. The Nissan Sentra has a roomier cargo area for holding your bags or other items than the Toyota Corolla.

Warranty
The Nissan Sentra comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Toyota Corolla.

PRK Eye Surgery Procedure

WHAT IS PRK EYE SURGERY?

Similar to Custom Wavefront Optimized LASIK. PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) laser eye surgery involves using a laser to reshape the cornea. But instead of creating a flap in the cornea to treat the underlying layers, a thin outer layer of the cornea is polished.

HOW DOES PRK WORK?

PRK surgery may be the best alternative for certain eye conditions, and is often preferred if the cornea is determined to be too thin to safely perform traditional LASIK surgery.

After removing the outermost layer of your cornea (the epithelium), a excimer laser is used to reshape the curve of your cornea. This affects the way light travels through to the back of the eye, so that light rays focus more precisely on it, and vision is improved.

Request a Free LASIK Evaluation

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH PRK?

The PRK laser eye surgery procedure lasts about 15 minutes. Your LASIK surgeon will use anesthetic drops to numb your eyes. A central area of the corneal epithelium is then gently polished away exposing the part of the cornea that needs to be reshaped. The excimer laser, programmed with your exact prescription, is then used to reshape the underlying tissue of the cornea.

A soft contact lens bandage will be placed on the cornea to help protect your eye.

The cost of PRK eye surgery is similar to that of traditional LASIK surgery.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER PRK EYE SURGERY

For some patients, PRK laser eye surgery offers advantages over traditional LASIK for some patients, although they typically have a longer recovery time, and experience more discomfort. Your contact lens bandage will be removed in about 5 days – the time it takes for new epithelial cells to regenerate and cover the surface of the eye. Noticing the improvements in your vision may be more gradual, from a few days up to a couple of weeks. Most PRK surgery patients can drive about 1 to 3 weeks after the procedure, although it may take 3 to 6 months to notice optimum vision.

*Prices based on prescription: up to -1.00 $299, -1.25 to -2.0 $1099, -2.25 and up as well as all hyperopic and/or greater than -0.50 diopter of astigmatism $1799. Individual results will vary. Candidacy determined by an independent doctor located within or adjacent to the LASIK Vision Institute’s (LVI) facility. All procedures performed by an independent surgeon. Punctal plugs, assurance plans and other technologies available at additional cost. This offer may not be combined with other offers. Other conditions may apply. This offer depicts a model who is not an actual patient of LVI. LASIK is a medical procedure. Talk to your eye doctor and consider both the risks and benefits before having your procedure.

Car Alarm Installation Cost

Many new vehicles come with a basic car alarm built-in, but vehicle owners in high-crime areas may want to upgrade to a more comprehensive security system, while owners of older or entry-level vehicles may want add an alarm system.

  • Expect to pay $30-$300 for a basic car alarm that has a siren attached to the vehicle’s existing wiring system, one or two remote controls and a simple controller/brain; models at the higher end of this price range may have a back-up battery and/or more sensors than the lower-priced alarms, or a few features like a remote start or a starter immobilizer to prevent hot wiring. For example, the Viper 350 Plus 1-Way Security System 3105V [1 ] with a controller, two four-button remotes, a six-tone siren, a starter immobilizer and an operating range of up to 1,500′ costs $240 .
  • Installation of a basic car alarm typically costs another $50-$200 or more, depending on the complexity of the system and the ease of access inside the vehicle’s dash, bringing the total cost to $80-$500. For example, Best Buy charges $150 for the Avital 3100L Security System with Geek Squad Installation [2 ] ; this package includes a 6-tone siren, two 3-button remote controls, keyless entry, a 1,500′ range and a warn-away (initial low-level response) feature.
  • It typically costs $300-$850 or more for an advanced vehicle security system that has a greater number and more varied range of sensors, a sophisticated computer controller, a wider range of effectiveness and options such as a camera or a remote ignition starter, or the capacity to disable the ignition starter or cut off the gas supply if an intruder is detected. For example, the top-of-the-line Viper 5904 Responder HD SuperCode SST 2-Way Vehicle Security and Remote Start System [3 ] with a one-mile range, upgraded user interface, mini-USB charging port and keychain remote costs $800 .
  • Installation of an advanced car security system can cost $100-$450 or more, depending on the complexity, the ease of access for the make and model of vehicle, and labor rates (as a general rule, labor costs more on a luxury, high-end vehicle than on a lower-priced standard sedan). Total costs for having an advanced system professionally installed can be $400-$1,300 or more.

What should be included:

  • A basic car alarm has one or more sensors attached to a siren. Most modern car alarms have a variety of sensors — open/close switches on the hood/trunk/doors, pressure sensors and motion/tilt detectors — plus a distinctive siren, a radio receiver for remote control, an extra battery so the alarm works even if the car does not, and a small computer control unit that is the system’s “brain.”
  • Installing a car alarm requires basic electronics knowledge, the right tools (good crimpers and strippers, a soldering iron, a drill and bits, a voltmeter, etc.), the ability to correctly take apart and reassemble the vehicle’s dash, the patience to exactly follow detailed instructions while in uncomfortable positions in tight spaces, and the proper wiring schematic for the vehicle. An advanced security system requires intensive wiring and must be properly integrated with the vehicle’s entire electrical system.

Discounts:

  • Do-it-yourself installation to save labor charges is possible, but can be difficult. For determined do-it-yourselfers, Crutchfield has do-it-yourself instructions [4 ] and Motorz TV provides a video overview [5 ] .

Shopping for car alarm installation:

  • If the goal is to deter break-ins, a basic alarm may be enough. If the objective is to protect items inside the vehicle, it could be better to get a more advanced system designed to monitor all possible points of entry, or one that can be expanded to include additional sensors. An eBay guide explains how to choose a car alarm [6 ] .
  • Car alarm systems are sold and installed by retailers like Best Buy [7 ]. Sears [8 ] or Walmart [9 ] ; or sold by online retailers like Amazon [10 ] .
  • The shop should post all its policies (labor rates, guarantees, payment methods, etc.). Ask if they specialize in this particular type of vehicle, and look for certificates of advanced course work or other training. Check for any complaints with the Better Business Bureau [11 ] .

Shop: Somewhere in patchogue NY

I was quoted for this installation. Did not pay it yet. But I feel like its a hell of a lot. I did the math and came up with these prices from caraudiogiants.com
alarm 189.00
field disturbance sensor 34.00
Voice module (warning stand back) 61.00
Total is 284 without install. That mean labor is almost 500 dollars? He said it’ll take 2 hours. I think its a rip off. I’m willing to pay 600 at most for a perfect installation which means no scratches on any of the interior plastic parts, no wires hanging, etc. I already have a factory alarm which has remote start and gps tracking. It just doesnt go off of you break a window. Only if you open a door. I need to be alerted if anyone goes near my car. Just had 2 center caps stolen the other day.

Replacing Copper Pipes Cost

Copper pipes have long been considered the best option for residential water supply lines because they resist corrosion, have a long life expectancy (about 40-50 years) and can be bent or curved relatively easily. However, in areas with an acidic water supply copper pipes have developed contamination (bitter-tasting water) and pinhole leaks [1 ]. and must be replaced. Typically the house is re-plumbed with plastic pipes or the water is treated to make it less acidic and then the house is re-plumbed with copper. Usually the new pipes will be installed first, the water supply transferred to the new system and then the old pipes will be drained and abandoned in place.

  • Re-piping a house can cost $1,500-$15,000 or more. Re-piping costs are typically based on the number of fixtures, with each sink, bathtub, shower, toilet, dishwasher, water heater, etc. counting as one fixture. Total costs also depend on the size of the house, if the holes in the walls and ceilings are repaired and repainted or just left open, whether it’s one story or two, and ease of access (basement, crawlspace or slab foundation).
  • Re-piping a house with plastic pipes — either PEX (flexible plastic tubing made of cross-link polyethylene) or PVC-CPVC (rigid plastic pipes made of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) — typically costs $1,500 -$8,000 or more, depending on the number of fixtures. Re-piping a small 1-bathroom home with plastic pipes might cost $1,500 -$2,500. and a typical 3-bedroom, 2-1/2-bathroom, two-story home might cost $3,000 -$7,000 or more. Although there are some regional differences — PEX tends to be more common in the West and Southwest, CPVC in the East — in many areas one plumber may prefer PEX and another CPVC.
  • If a home has acidic water, a water treatment [2 ] system to restore the correct pH balance (before installing new copper pipes) can cost $600-$2,000. Re-plumbing with copper pipes can cost $2,500-$15,000 or more, depending on the number of fixtures and the ease of access — and prices may vary significantly over time depending on the price of copper [3 ]. For example, Pete Rodriguez of Atlantic Re-Plumbing [4 ] in Virginia says costs for re-plumbing a 2-1/2-bathroom house with 12-13 fixtures would start at about $4,500, and could cost more. At Repipe1 in California, Danny Zilberberg says re-piping a 2-bathroom house would cost more than $5,000 with copper pipes.
  • Most experts do not recommend re-piping a house as a do-it-yourself project because a single error can result in an expensive and damaging leak. However, for DIY replacement of small sections, building supply stores sell 10′ lengths of 1/2″- to 1″-diameter hard copper pipe for about $10-$60 or more.

Related articles: Replacing a Water Heater. Upgrading an Electrical Panel. PVC or CPVC Pipes. PEX Plumbing Pipes. Replacing Galvanized Pipes. Replacing Polybutylene Pipes

What should be included:

  • Copper pipes come in two types, rigid or flexible, and three classifications — Type M is thin walled, Type L (for most residential plumbing applications) is medium walled and commercial-grade Type K is thick-walled. Flexible copper tubing is typically used for short projects, like leading up to a water heater or for cold water supply in tight spots. Rigid copper pipe is typically used to distribute the water supply.
  • A contractor will typically inspect the house before submitting a bid. Re-piping a house takes 1-5 working days and can require cutting 8-20 or more holes in the walls and ceilings. Usually the water will be turned back on each evening and the homeowners will be able to stay in the house during the re-plumbing. Copper typically takes longer and/or more workers to install than PEX or CPVC pipes. For example, Repipe1 in California typically schedules one day for any re-plumbing project, but uses a three-member crew to install PEX and a five-member or larger crew for copper pipes.

Additional costs:

  • A permit from the local planning or building department is typically required. The city of Hercules, CA, posts its re-piping inspection checklist [5 ] describing common code violations in re-plumbing projects. Permit fees vary, but typically cost $70-$400. This may be included in a contractor’s bid or be an additional charge. The contractor may also charge $50-$150 to be present during required inspections by the local building or planning department.

Shopping for replacing copper pipes:

  • Prices can vary significantly, so get several estimates and ask about re-plumbing experience. Homewownernet.com explains how to hire a plumber [6 ] and ProToolReviews.com lists tips for choosing between CPVC, PEX and copper pipes [7 ] .
  • Ask friends and neighbors for recommendations, or search for local plumbing contractors through the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association [8 ]. Make sure the company is properly bonded, insured and licensed [9 ] ; ask for and check references; and look for complaints with the Better Business Bureau [10 ] .
  • A written contract should include a detailed outline of the work required and materials to be used, whether the company will be doing the work or subcontracting any of the project, and the dates within which the project will be done.

Number of Stories: 2

Bought a foreclosured home from the bank, replace all water lines, hot and cold to the entire apartment on both floors. Replace drain lines to bathroom and kitchen main stack install 2 new hot water tanks and tie them in and install new cut off valves on all the sinks. Hook up for the washer in the basement. With a turnaround of 4 to 5 days with all copper and water supplies included
The water company would not turn the water on because, the line was cut from the water tank, the lines to the kitchen sink, tubs and toilet was cut, they took copper out the walls in the bathroom, The sewer line busted.

How Much Does It Cost To Paint a Car

Whether you just got yourself a second hand car of you have been involved in an auto accident, you may be asking yourself the question how much does it cost to paint a car .

There are many factors to be considered in determining the costs of painting a car. The most significant considerations include quality of materials, level of labor involved, and size of car.

To help you figure out how much painting a car costs, consider the following:

The Car Painting Process

Depending on the quality of work done, the processes will generally start with the washing of the car. This will remove dust particles, mud, and any other foreign bodies from the surface of the car and make it easier to paint.

The original paint will then be sanded down and the garage may repair some of the uneven surfaces and scratches.

After that, the chromes and windows will be covered up or if it is a high end job they may be completely removed.

Once the preparation for painting the car is completed, the colorless primers will be applied to make the paint last longer. It is then that the application of paint will commence using spray guns. This will be followed by the application of a protective cover which is normally transparent.

Some of the cheaper places will not follow all these steps and some of the high end specialty shops will do much more.

Cost of Materials

There are different materials and equipment used in painting a car. The primary cost to focus on is the cost of car paint, the cost of the primer, and the cost of the clear coatings. These can set you back from about $200 for the cheapest quality to over $5,000 for top shelf products.

However, the average costs range at between $1,000 and $1,500 for a decent job .

Different cars require different types of paint and this is also affected by the metallic qualities of the car, type of finish, shades, and patterns.

Depending on your needs and your budget, you may have to use one of the following most commonly used types of car paint.

Enamel Paint

Enamel paints are tougher than lacquer paints because of how they dry into a hard shell though they are not as easy to apply. Many enamel colors tend to require a two-stage process where a clear top coat is applied in addition to the paint.

Nevertheless, there are some enamel paints that only require a single step. Typical prices for a gallon of enamel auto paints are around $50 .

Acrylic Lacquer

Perhaps the cheapest option you will have is the acrylic lacquer auto paints. It is easy to apply though it chips easier.

You may have to apply regular coats due to the chipping and because they are not chemical resistant. They cost between $30 and $40 per gallon.

Urethane-Based Paints

Urethane-based paints have qualities that fall between enamel and acrylic lacquer paints. They are easy to apply and are as strong as enamel paints.

Nevertheless, urethane-based paints have to be used with three other products for a complete finish. These are a reducer, a catalyst, and the color. They cost between $70 and $90 per gallon.

Water-Based Paints

Water-based paints are relatively new in the market though gaining a lot of popularity. They are the most versatile auto paints as they can be used on the existing paintwork, on metal, and on primer.

However, there are not many color choices yet and they are more expensive at around $120 per gallon .

Labor Costs

You can get a garage that charges $300 or less on labor for painting a car.

However, the paintwork will most likely be sloppy and uneven, and preparation will be nonexistent.

For a decent job, most mid range garages will charge between $1,500 and $3,000 for labor. The labor costs are also determined by quality of work, level of preparation, the need for body work, and size of car.

Total Costs

The total costs for painting a car will be determined by cost of labor and materials. It may range from just a few hundreds to many tens of thousands.

Low-End Prices

There are various national chains that offer prices as low as $200 for painting a regular-sized vehicle.

Typical service involves cleaning the surface of the car to remove dirt and old paint, masking some areas to reduce chances of overspray, and providing a heat-cured finish. They typically offer a one year warranty.

Mid Range Prices

Using better materials and more involved preparation and finishing, a mid range car paint may cost anywhere between $1,000 and $5,000 .

It may also involve interior painting and areas near the engine getting re-colored. Typical warranties range from 2 to 5 years though may be more.

High End Prices

High end car paint jobs cost between $4,000 and $10,000 though they may even go up to $80,000 for highly specialized services.

Paints used in this kind of services sell for even hundreds of dollars for one quart.

The preparation in these kinds of jobs involves complete removal of windows, mirrors, headlights, and bumpers before sanding begins.

Buffing and wet-sanding is also done after the paintwork is complete. High end jobs usually come with a lifetime guarantee.

Do-It-Yourself Costs

You can significantly cut down the costs of painting your car by doing it yourself. But you should know that the work is involving, may take very long, and will require a substantial investment in equipment.

For instance, you will need to purchase spray guns which do cost between $200 and $800. Sanding materials will also cost you another $50 to $200 .

The good thing is that you get to choose your material and so you can decide to reduce your carbon footprint and use more environmental-friendly products.

Homeowners Insurance Reviews

Low cost homeowners insurance

Low cost homeowners insurance

Best homeowners insurance

Amica Mutual isn’t a household name, but customers say it should be. The company earns top marks for customer service; fast, fair, low-hassle claims; and going above and beyond by connecting homeowners with contractors that have proven track records. Amica offers a good variety of plans and a wide range of discounts. However, Amica is very picky about who it insures and not all homes and customers may qualify. See our full review »

Low cost homeowners insurance

Regional homeowners insurance

Though its name may indicate otherwise, Auto-Owners Insurance writes policies for homeowners, too. The company scores well in national surveys for its personal, agent-based customer service and fair, low-hassle claims experiences, but its policy and payment options may not be as flexible as those offered by some larger competitors. Potential customers will want to check on availability, as Auto-Owners only does business in 26 states.

Low cost homeowners insurance

Best home insurance for military families

Military members and their families have a top-notch homeowners insurance option in USAA. The company earns raves for solid customer service, smooth claims and flexible policies. Customers say the settlement and repair processes are fair and claims are taken care of quickly. Coverage is available nationwide. However, the insurance is only available to service members (past and present) and members of their families. See our full review »

Low cost homeowners insurance

Best renters insurance company

Renters who want competitive rates, flexible customer service and convenient online tools can find all three in mega-insurer State Farm. Customers can choose to work with local agents or deal with the company directly, and experts say the online quote tool gives renters an easy, accurate snapshot of what they’ll pay. Low cost homeowners insurance

Cheap rental insurance

GEICO does not underwrite its own renters or homeowners insurance, instead acting as a mega-agent for a stable of partner insurance carriers, including many well-known names. It matters not, as GEICO lands at the very top when it comes to customer satisfaction with renters insurance. Low premiums are the big reason why, as its buying power lets GEICO extract deep discounts and to pick and choose among carriers to get the best deals for its customers.

Homeowners insurance protects more than you might think

Your home is your castle and, to push the analogy to the limit, homeowners insurance is the knight who swoops in to protect it in times of distress. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work. You only need to read the many tales of woe on the Internet to learn that things can sometimes go terribly wrong. The best way to keep problems from piling up is to choose your policy and insurance company carefully, and to review both every year to make sure they still meet your needs. Unfortunately, shopping for a homeowners policy can be confusing, time consuming and downright frustrating.

Most home insurance policies cover four things. A standard homeowners policy covers damage to your house and detached structures, such as sheds, from situations like fires and theft. Your personal possessions will be covered up to a specified dollar limit, and most policies include liability coverage to pay for property damage or bodily injury to others. Finally, hotel costs, meals and other incidentals are usually covered if you have to live elsewhere while your house is being repaired.

Different homes, circumstances require different polices. When it comes to home insurance, there’s a spectrum of choices. HO-1 and HO-2 policies are named peril policies — you are only covered if loss is caused by one of a list of perils named in the policy; if anything else goes wrong, you are out of luck. An HO-1 policy names 10 perils, while an HO-2 names 16. These policies can be written to pay the replacement cost of your home and personal property, or its actual cash value — and will deduct for depreciation for age and wear — so the payout will typically be significantly less

The majority of homeowners opt for a policy known as HO-3, or a special policy, which covers any damage to your home unless it is explicitly excluded. However, personal property is only covered for specific named perils, such as fire, smoke, hail damage, vandalism, theft and explosions. In addition, although there are some caveats, coverage for your home is at full replacement value, without depreciation. An HO-5, or comprehensive policy is similar, except that personal property is treated the same as real estate — it’s covered unless specifically excluded.

Some homes, especially older homes that have not been updated, can’t qualify for an HO-3 or HO-5 policy because their replacement cost exceeds their market value. In these cases, an HO-8 policy might be the only alternative. However, the HO-8 policy will pay out only the cash value of the home, less depreciation for age and wear — an amount that’s typically far lower than is the case with HO-3/HO-5 coverage. In addition, as is the case with an HO-1 or HO-2 policy, only a specific list of named perils is covered.

Condo and co-op owners should look into special condominium insurance, known as HO-6. That’s because, while condo/co-op owners have control over their unit, the building’s association usually has control over the structure itself and the grounds. That can make HO-6 insurance less expensive than an HO-3/HO-5 policy, but you still need to be vigilant to be sure that there are no gaps between your insurance and the association’s coverage — including any deductibles in its master policy.

Renters need insurance, too. Rental insurance, also known as HO-4 coverage, protects against many of the same perils as homeowners insurance. Like home insurance, renters insurance provides liability coverage and covers your possessions in the event of situations such as fire or theft. Also, like homeowners policies, renters insurance generally pays for living expenses if your unit becomes uninhabitable. The major difference is that it doesn’t cover the structure itself, which is your landlord’s responsibility.

For many homeowners, smaller companies may be a better bet. Flashy television ads aren’t in the budget for all but the biggest home insurance companies, but bigger does not necessarily equal best. Some of the most highly rated home insurers are smaller. These companies may surprise you with low rates, which they need to offer to stay competitive. They may also offer a more personal business approach, especially if you form a relationship with a local agent. However, while some smaller insurers still have a national reach, many only accept policyholders in certain states. Smaller insurers may also be pickier about their policyholders, accepting only those who they think pose the lowest risk of filing a claim.

Military families have some additional options and considerations. A handful of companies cater exclusively to active-duty military, veterans and their families. Some insurers may offer coverage options and discounts exclusively for servicemen and women. Whatever they choose, military families will want to ensure their policies don’t have a vacancy clause that voids their coverage during deployment, cautions the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Policies will also vary on whether personal property is covered when it’s damaged in a war zone, NAIC says.

Renters may be better off sticking to big insurers. Several surveys show that the majority of renters still skip insurance coverage. Experts say that’s a big mistake, considering how inexpensive most renters’ policies can be. Accordingly, for most renters, price and convenience are the name of the game. Larger insurers tend to offer more sophisticated online quote tools that help renters get a quick snapshot of what they’ll have to pay. They may also offer convenient bonuses such as mobile apps, and they don’t rely on an agent-driven sales model — probably best for transient renters who would prefer to do business directly with company representatives online or over the phone.

Best Car Insurance After a DUI

Expect your car insurance rates to go up after getting caught drinking and driving. But don’t let embarrassment stop you from shopping around for the best car insurance after a DUI.

Even if the DUI was the result of one dumb mistake that will never happen again, you’re going to be marked as a high-risk driver in the eyes of insurers for at least a few years.

That’s not a moral judgment, but rather a conclusion based on statistics. Alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal crashes were six times more likely to have a prior DUI conviction than drivers with no alcohol in their blood, according to an analysis of 2013 data by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As a result of the perceived risk you now present, your current car insurance company might drop you at renewal time. At the very least your insurer will increase your rates when you renew the policy. And the rates offered by other companies will be higher after the DUI than they would have been if you still had a clean record.

Nonetheless, insurers vary greatly in how they price policies, so it s best to shop around.

Tickets? You might be able to get a better deal by comparing auto insurance quotes through NerdWallet’s comparison tool.

Best car insurance after a DUI

Because car insurance rates vary widely by company and location, the only way to find the cheapest rate is to get quotes from several companies.

NerdWallet compared car insurance rates in three states for men and women drivers with one DUI conviction. In each of those states, we averaged rates from 10 ZIP codes for the 10 biggest insurers doing business there.

Average quotes varied dramatically. In New York, for instance, the average annual rate among major carriers ranged from $1,206 to $3,882. That’s a difference of $2,676. The rates below are for policies with relatively low liability limits and no collision and comprehensive coverage. The cost of insurance will be higher if you buy better coverage than the bare minimum.

  • Average annual rate: $1,005
Specialty insurance companies for risky drivers. Methodology: We compared rates among the 10 biggest insurers in California, Florida and New York for 30-year-old men and women with one DUI conviction insuring a 2012 Toyota Camry. We ran rates in 10 ZIP codes in each of the states for a policy that includes liability coverage of $25,000 for injuries per person, $50,000 for injuries per accident, and $20,000 for property damage, plus $50,000 in PIP and uninsured motorist coverage. Your rates will be different.

Many big-name insurance companies have special subsidiaries that serve high-risk drivers, and some smaller companies cater especially to this market, known as “nonstandard” in the insurance world. It’s a good idea to get rates from these specialty carriers as well as from the big guys.

To determine which company is best for high-risk drivers, NerdWallet looked at financial strength ratings for 14 of these companies as well as the ratio of upheld complaints to the number of customers, using data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Those with the lowest ratio of upheld complaints and the best financial strength ratings ranked highest:

  • No. 1: Geico Casualty, a subsidiary for high-risk drivers of insurance giant Geico.
  • No. 2: Dairyland Auto, a part of the Sentry Insurance Group.
  • No. 3: Titan Insurance, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance for high-risk drivers.

(Dairyland and Titan were not included in our rate comparison because they are too small to be among the top 10 carriers in each of the states we surveyed.)

Car insurance plus an SR-22

Many states require drivers with a DUI conviction to have a special form filed on their behalf by an insurer with the Department of Motor Vehicles. In most states the form is called an SR-22. Florida and Virginia sometimes require a form called an FR-44 for drivers who are ordered by the court to purchase more than the state-mandated minimum of liability insurance.

The form is a certificate of financial responsibility that proves you have purchased at least the minimum amount of auto insurance required by your state.

Not all insurers will file this form for their customers, so if you are required to have an SR-22 or FR-44 form, you’ll need to ask the insurance company whether it provides this service. You’ll know if you need an SR-22 or FR-44 form — the court will make that clear.

Moving forward

You’ll have to endure higher car insurance rates after a DUI for at least a few years. States vary in how long they require DUI offenses to stay on your driving record. In California, for instance, a DUI stays on your record for 10 years. During that time you will not be able to earn a good driver discount.

A DUI is a low point, but the financial stigma doesn’t last forever. By shopping around for the most affordable coverage, you’re taking the first steps upward. You can get started with NerdWallet’s car insurance comparison tool .

Dental Insurance: Plan Comparison and Coverage Guide

Dental insurance is intended to help offset the costs associated with dental care. The mere thought of out-of-pocket expenses prevents many Americans from receiving routine and necessary dental treatment.

Today’s dental treatments range in cost from $300 per year for regular dental hygiene visits, to $25,000 or more for restorative dental procedures or cosmetic dentistry. Additionally, when compared with medical insurance coverage, dental insurance plans generally offer fewer benefits.

Dental Insurance Plans: What’s Available?

Various dental insurance plans are available for individuals in the U.S. and are designed to help offset the costs associated with necessary dental care. Plans have limitations on the number of dental visits, radiographs (X-rays) and treatments that are covered, and other services may be excluded. Some plans only reimburse patients when the least expensive treatment alternative is selected; other plans do not provide coverage for necessary treatments of pre-existing conditions.

You may not be aware that you have flexible spending account options available through your employer for dental or medical needs. Check with your employer to see if a flexible spending account is an option for you.

The types of dental insurance plans available include the following:

Dental Insurance Plan Choices:

  • Indemnity Plan: An indemnity dental insurance plan allows you to select your own dentist. These plans are considered fee-for-service and come with limitations and co-payment options. This means that you pay a flat fee for the dental visit, but you have an annual limit on coverage for dental spending, and specific coverage limits may apply to individual dental procedures.
  • Self-Insurance Plan: Self-insurance dental plans may be similar in nature to indemnity plans, but you might not be able to select your own dentist.
  • Closed Panel Plan: Closed panel dental plans limit you to using a specific group of facilities and the number of dentists available to you.
  • Capitation Plan: Capitation dental plans designate specific dentists for intervals of treatment. These dentists have a contract indicating that they will be paid a fee regardless of whether dental treatment was required.
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): PPO dental plans are limited to a group of dentists who are available to provide dental care at a reduced cost.
  • Direct Reimbursement Plan: Direct reimbursement dental plans allow employers to directly reimburse employees for dental services they receive.
  • Dental Care Service Plan: Dental care service plans use a group of dentists who form a non-profit organization to provide dental services at set fees.

What’s Covered by Dental Insurance?

If you have dental insurance, familiarize yourself with your plan so you know what is covered and how. For example, if you require a dental filling and would prefer a composite material, evaluate the benefits allocated in your plan for composite fillings. Many insurance companies will only reimburse composite filling costs at a rate equal to that of an amalgam filling. You would be required to pay the remaining balance as an out-of-pocket expense.

Cosmetic dental procedures are not typically covered by dental insurance. However, if you have insurance and require veneers for restorative purposes, ask your dentist about the possibility of filing for reimbursement for a percentage of the costs. Also, if you are undergoing a smile makeover that will involve multiple necessary treatments as prerequisites (e.g. root canals or orthodontic bite adjustments), some of those costs may be covered by insurance.

More often than not, the cost of cosmetic dentistry will not be offset by insurance.

It is important to ask the dentist’s finance manager about dental treatment costs prior to agreeing to and receiving treatment. Dental insurance plans differ in the level of reimbursement offered for certain procedures and in annual dental spending caps. Some plans limit the waiting period before certain dental treatments are rendered. Additionally, plans typically have exclusions, meaning that costs for certain dental procedures will not be reimbursed. Dental finance managers can call your insurance provider to pre-determine the out-of-pocket costs associated with your planned procedure.

Usual, Customary, and Reasonable (UCR) Fees

The most common term used by dental insurance companies on their Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement to identify the fee for dental treatment is called Usual, Customary and Reasonable (UCR). UCR fees are determined by insurance providers based on the typical costs associated with various dental procedures.

For example, if your procedure costs $90, your dental insurance provider may have a UCR for the procedure of $60. You would therefore be responsible for paying the $30 difference as an out-of-pocket expense.

Used Car Engines for Sale Now Shipped for No Cost by Got Engines #auto #donation

Used car engines for sale are now shipped for no customer cost by the http://gotengines.com company. This new removal of the freight cost is applied to all in stock Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Plymouth, Honda and other import engines that are shipped in the 48 continental U.S. states.

Quality usually applies to the amount of mileage that is on the actual block and the age of the motor.

San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) January 30, 2013

Buying standard retail products online happens everyday in North America. It is not uncommon for offers of no cost shipping to be provided by retailers. In the automotive world, engines weigh hundreds of pounds and can cost hundreds of dollars to ship. The Got Engines company has applied a freight incentive to all of its used car engines for sale. A freigh-free policy is now in place for domestic and foreign brands. This is one method now used to lower the replacement cost of an engine in a secondary market vehicle. More information can be found at http://www.gotengines.com/blog/used-engine-engines/used-car-engines-for-sale.

A vehicle engine can be purchased in several different ways by car owners. While each method has its own benefits, quality is the most important aspect that buyers research before making an actual purchase. Quality usually applies to the amount of mileage that is on the actual block and the age of the motor.

Both domestic and import engines are frequently sold online and quality can vary from dealer to dealer. The new motors that are now sent without freight charges are purchased with lower mileage compared to standard junkyard or salvage company inventories.

The size of a motor can often affect the maintenance that must be performed during ownership. Gasoline editions that are used in almost all passenger cars can range in size from I4 to V8. More technologies are typically used for the larger V8 sizes compared with the standard I4 editions. The new review processes that are in use by the Got Engines company ensures that all parts and components are professionally inspected before a complete unit is sold to the public. Instead of being an intermediary, this company now purchases all inventory and houses it in a single location for customer shipment.

A price reduction program was announced earlier this year to help promote new lower pricing for the company inventory. These reductions in price have helped to provide more opportunity for this company to purchase more hard to find motors for customers. Motors in age of up to 25 years can now be purchased entirely online or by phone at the new discount prices.

These measures are one example of how this retailer is working toward the betterment of the preowned automotive industry. The news announcement made earlier this month for the reduction in price can be found online at http://www.prweb.com/releases/used-engines-for-sale/preowned-motors-on-sale/prweb10281047.htm.

About Got Engines

The Got Engines company has remained a top seller since its online inception in 2007. This company houses one of the largest secondary market motor inventories in North America. The automakers like Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota and Mercury represent a portion of the company stock that is sent to customers around the world. Through low prices and other discounts, the Got Engines company has helped to build a solid company reputation while selling its preowned motors to the public and auto industry. By including a warranty with all sales, this company is able to offer higher level of assurances when buyers purchase inventory.

11 Car-Rental Cost-Cutting Secrets

11 Car-Rental Cost-Cutting Secrets

Go Opaque for Deep Discounts

William Shatner is right about one thing: booking through opaque travel websites like Hotwire and Priceline —where you pay upfront without knowing the specific hotel or car- rental agency you’re booking with—can ensure significant discounts. “As far as I’m concerned, one car rental is like another; it’s very much of an interchangeable commodity,” explains Ed Perkins, a contributing editor to SmarterTravel .

Another alternative is to turn to smaller players like CarRentalExpress. which offers discounted car rentals from lesser-known firms. (A sample search in Fort Lauderdale turned up All American Car Rentals, Orlicar, and Quality Car and Van Rental.) The company says its average daily rates are 25 percent lower than those offered by the megabrands; average weekly rates are 15 percent lower. CarRentals. a New Jersey–based website recently purchased by Expedia, Inc. also has discounted rentals through independent agencies.

With gas prices at $4 per gallon and climbing, even a weekend road trip can be an expensive proposition—especially when you throw in the cost of a rental car. And while cost is on everyone’s mind right now, it shouldn’t be the only factor in determining which car company and model to choose. A successful car-rental experience is one that brings together price, model, service, and timing—and it can prove frustratingly elusive, even for the savviest travelers.

“I almost never know what to expect when I rent a car,” says Stephen Bearden, a world-traveling auto-industry executive who rents an average of 75 times a year. “There are days it feels like a total crapshoot—everything varies so much from city to city, company to company, car to car.”

So how do you guarantee yourself a good price on your next car rental without going through a shady company?Actually, there’s plenty you can do to make the rental-car stars align and end up with a lower bill. One reason that car-rental experiences have been inconsistent is the industry itself, which has been consolidating: Avis and Budget joined forces in 2002, and Enterprise snapped up National and Alamo in 2007, leaving fewer big players in the U.S. market. At the same time, drivers are facing rising taxes and fees, such as the local and state surcharges applied to airport rentals—which can increase the cost of an average rental by as much as 25 percent. And anyone who’s returned a car with less than a full tank (and without a prepaid plan) knows the result: exorbitant fuel charges.

And let’s not forget about those complicated insurance questions, which still bewilder travelers at home and abroad. Knowing your coverage—whether through a personal auto insurance policy or that of your preferred credit card—is the best way to ensure peace of mind and avoid overpaying at the counter.

But some industry changes are for the better, like increased competition from independent companies like rent-by-the-hour Zipcar, and a larger number of deal-finding tools online. International Web sites of U.S. rental agencies, for example, often have better rates for travel abroad than their U.S. counterparts. And aggregator Web sites Kayak.com and Sidestep.com allow travelers to easily search and compare many quotes at once, then bypass extra fees by linking directly to the rental agency.

But one of the most positive changes is coming from the rental-car companies themselves: they’re offering more hybrid vehicles, which not only minimize your carbon footprint but also save you money on fuel. A gas/electric vehicle can help you save as much as a day’s worth of rental fees on a weeklong trip, says David Morris, author of Driving Our Way to Energy Independence. The popular Toyota Prius, for instance, averages 46 miles per gallon—a 35 to 40 percent improvement over a comparably sized standard car.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car plans to double its inventory of 5,000 hybrids by 2009. For now, the company is concentrating its models in the most traffic-troubled areas. Four new “Green Branches” are located in the most densely populated parts of Atlanta. “We don’t yet have as many of these vehicles as we would like, so we’re starting to put them where the most customers are asking for them,” says Patrick Farrell, Enterprise’s vice president of corporate responsibility and communications. Sixty-three percent of Avis Budget Group’s vehicles are certified by the EPA’s SmartWay Transport program, and 2,500 of them are hybrids. Major West Coast airport locations are your best bet for reserving one; the cars are also available in select cities including Chicago. Dallas. New York. and Washington, D.C..

Hertz has more than 4,000 hybrids that can be reserved upon request in major cities and at many airports in the United States and Europe. The company’s Manhattan outposts have 100 Priuses.

Drivers in the western United States can also check out EV Rental Cars (evrental.com ), the country’s only “all-environmental” rental company. The group’s 350-car fleet is available at six major California airports, as well as at locations in Phoenix and, new this summer, Seattle. If you can’t find a hybrid. Morris recommends passing up any attractive upgrades. “Stick with the most fuel-efficient subcompacts,” he says.

Ultimately, of course, renting a car is about enjoying the road trip. but it’s always nice to save a few bucks along the way.

If you thought driving on the left was the biggest challenge out there, consider these unusual foreign traffic laws when renting overseas.

Europe

Denmark If you are the last car in stopped traffic on a highway, you must turn on your hazard lights.

France Drivers are required to keep a reflective safety vest on the passenger side of the car and a triangular reflector in the trunk (both are provided with rentals). If the vehicle breaks down, the reflector must be placed 100 meters (328 feet) behind the car.

Germany A child under age 13 can sit in the front seat (in a child seat) only if the air bag has been deactivated.

Asia

South Korea Don’t try to grease any palms if you get pulled over here. Traffic police are required to report all bribes offered by motorists.

im sure you all have experienced extremely high pricing for transfers. in my area ive seen them as low as $65 and as high as $200. i called a local shop today and asked them how much to transfer a rifle from an online purchase, the first thing the guy asked me was how much was the gun. i told him and then he gave me a price of $80. what in the heck does the price of the gun matter with what they charge? just wondering what it actually costs the FFL to register a gun and if some of these guys would rather turn down business by outpricing themslves or is their ego just too big, if i was running a store i wouldnt care if a customer got a fantastic deal online. i would dros him for a reasonable fee and he’ll be a repeat customer, the lights, insurance and rent still have to get paid.

12-29-2008, 1:32 PM

DROS should be $25. A face to face purchase is max $30 by CA law. Now if you purchase and they bring it in they can charge whatever they want.

What they charge above the $25 is up to the dealer. It is fair to charge above as they are not making money on the gun itself. With that said charging $150 would seem kinda high. $60 seems avergae and fair these days

12-29-2008, 1:33 PM

For one out-of-state purchase (doesn’t matter what type of firearm/rifle), my local FFL charges a flat fee of $50 for the transfer plus $25 to do the DROS. Also add state tax (7.5%) and it’s $78 out the door.

Max is actually $35 under CA law for FTF PPT transaction.

I used a guy in orange county who charged 55 for the first gun on the dros and 20 for each after that.

although Wes over at 10 % has a really neat policy if you buy a gun from him. regarding other rifles you can put on the dros.

Actually, I believe for a face to face ‘transfer’ a FFL can charge no more than $10 for himself, and then of course the $25 DROS fee. So $35 is the legal limit.

To the OP, if you are running a shop, especially in this economy (panic buying and all), it’s an inconvenience to receive, store, DROS, and hold your weapon – that you didn’t even buy from the store – for 10 more days..and potentially have to deal with returning it if your DROS fails. Not to mention the time somebody has to take to help you keep them from making sales.

So for that, it seems reasonable that a FFL would charge you based on the weapon you’re buying and having him receive/transfer for you. One good thing though, if you pay the FFL a transfer fee like that (aside of the DROS fee which goes to the DOJ for no reason at all), you don’t have to feel guilty about not spending a dime in his store. on the other hand, maybe ask the FFL to wave the fee and spend a good $100 or so in his store and see if he’s good with that.

In short, put yourself in his shoes.

Central Air Conditioning Cost Guide

Central air conditioning systems use a series of ducts and vents located throughout a home to circulate cool air equally throughout each room. These units are known for being more energy efficient than alternatives like window air conditioning units. They are generally able to better maintain a uniform temperature throughout a home.

The Costs

  • The maximum cost reported for central AC installation is $5,000.
  • The minimum reported cost of central AC installation is $2,500.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Various Central Air Conditioning Systems

Homeowners considering the option of a central air conditioning system should start by determining which type of system is best for their needs. Each system has its pros and cons, which are also important to take into consideration. There are two common types of central AC units:

The split system is the most common option among homeowners. Most people are used to seeing this type in the backyards of homes. With split system units, most of the components are housed in a metal box on the outside of the home. However, there are some internal components as well. These can include the evaporator and heat pump. Split systems are ideal for cooling multiple rooms at once, but are not very energy efficient. Therefore, one pro homeowners can enjoy the benefit of not having loud equipment in their homes. At the same time, the con would be that those who use this may spend more money on cooling costs in the long run because of the lower energy efficiency.

A packaged unit, usually installed on the roof, is most commonly used on commercial buildings, but it is also an option for homeowners to consider. Often times, these units contain not only the air conditioning unit itself but also a furnace. A pro for this type of unit is great for those looking to save money on the installation of a new heating and cooling system separately, since the unit is combined. However, a con for these units are typically only available for larger homes due to their high power and capacity. Additionally, while they can be a good way to save money on a complete HVAC system, they are still significantly more expensive than buying just a cooling system. Therefore, this may not be the best option for homeowners looking for short-term savings or those with smaller budgets.

Considerations for Purchasing A Central AC Unit

It is important for homeowners to keep some specific considerations in mind before making a purchase. For starters, it is a good idea to think about energy efficiency. By choosing a central AC unit that has as high of an efficiency rating as possible, homeowners can reduce their carbon footprint and save money in the long run. Often times, efficiency ratings are posted at appliance stores so that homeowners can compare their options. Going with an Energy Star rated appliance is a great way for homeowners to enjoy additional peace of mind.

Aside from the unit’s efficiency, there are some other factors that should also be considered before making a decision. These include:

Most homeowners do not realize the importance of an AC unit’s size. A unit that is too large will have an easy time keeping the home cool, but will have a more difficult time removing humidity from the air. On the other hand, a unit that is too small will not be able to properly cool the home on hot days. Seeking help from a professional HVAC technician can help homeowners to find the size that is right for them.

Many AC units come with a number of special features that can further improve performance and efficiency. For example, homeowners may want to look for one that comes with a built-in filter light that will alert the user when the air filter needs to be changed. Another popular feature to look for is a fan-only switch, which homeowners can kick on at night to reduce energy costs even more.

One of the greatest benefits of having a central AC unit installed is the lower noise levels compared to that of a window unit. As not all central units are made equally, homeowners should read reviews of various units to determine which ones have the best sound ratings, especially if the unit will be located close to a bedroom.

Cost Variations for Central AC Installation

There are many factors that can influence the overall cost of central air conditioning installation. One of the main factors is which components of the unit need to be installed. For example, a home with an existing central air system may already have the necessary duct work done and only a new outdoor central unit will need to be installed. On the other hand, if this will be the home’s first time having a central air unit installed, then more ductwork may be required and the cost will therefore be higher.

Installation and material costs can have a great impact on the overall cost of the installation. For example, the units themselves typically cost around $2,000, but because of the level of work involved in installing and insulating a new unit, homeowners can expect to spend between $500 and $3,000 on labor and materials costs. However, it is always recommended that homeowners rely on a professional to install a new central AC unit, as this is not recommended as a do-it-yourself project.

Homeowners feeling uncomfortable about the costs associated with central AC installation can benefit from shopping around to find the best deals. Comparing quotes among local HVAC companies can help to cut costs. Furthermore, requesting a quote during a non-peak time of year, the fall or winter, can also help homeowners to save money. In most regions of the country, HVAC companies are able to charge more during the months of spring and summer due to high demand.

Before hiring anybody to install a central AC unit, it is always a good idea to read some online reviews of the company or contractor. This can help homeowners to ensure that the company is reputable and will get the job done correctly.

Car Insurance Calculator: Determine the Cost of Insuring Your Car

If you are casually shopping around online for automotive insurance, a car insurance calculator can be a great asset to your search. The purpose of a car insurance calculator is to gather a rough estimate of what an insurance plan is going to cost you. Obviously, prices may change with different insurance companies, but you will be able to get a rough estimate.

Get Free Car Insurance Quotes

You can easily find a coverage calculator online, which can help you decide on the minimum requirements of being insured, or a more comprehensive plan. One useful calculator can be found at carinsurance.com. You will be asked a series of basic questions, including marital status, children and whether or not you rent or own a home. It gathers more personal information, such as education obtained, age and if you have health insurance. Obviously, you will be asked to fill out information about the car that you are trying to insure as well.

Need Car Insurance? ZIP

The whole process doesn’t take much more than ten minutes, and can save you time in the long run. When you obtain a free quote from individual insurance companies, you are essentially using a car insurance calculator. Some of the questions may be slightly different and you will probably be asked to create a profile with your email address. Also, you often have to input personal identification information, such as your social security number and address. If you are skittish about giving out your personal contact information, or like to do so as little as possible, it’s probably a better idea to use a car insurance calculator on an independent website.

Calculating Premiums without a Car Insurance Premium Calculator

If you are unable to make use of a premium calculator but still need to keep within a budget, it is useful to know what aspects you need to take into account to calculate the premium.

  1. Previous Premiums. When you do not have use of a car insurance premium calculator, the ideal starting point is the figures for previous premiums. This will be the basis from which you can calculate what adjustments are likely to be made. If you do not have any figures for previous premiums, use an online quote form and input approximate details to obtain a quote figure.
  2. Claims. Be aware that any claim that you make will put you more at risk of getting high risk car insurance rates at renewal. Accordingly, take into account the number and types of claims that you have been paid over the course of the previous year as part of the car insurance premium calculator. The higher the payouts, the higher the renewal premium is likely to be. However, even a single claim is likely to increase the premium by a small amount.
  3. Market Conditions. A car insurance premium calculator must take into account market conditions. Pay attention to the financial news for any stories about the insurance industry and well as crime figures. Low car insurance rates will be scarce if insurers have paid out significant sums due to an increase in car crime.

Motor Efficiency, Power Factor, and Load

How to improve system performance and generate cost savings on the plant floor

By developing a greater understanding regarding electric motor efficiency and operating characteristics, you can realize some serious electric energy cost savings. An often overlooked and widely misunderstood characteristic of electric motors is power factor (PF). Proper electric motor application and efficiency are important things to know when applying or replacing a motor, although PF can be equally important when operating costs are considered.

Recent studies indicate the level of knowledge and implementation of motor system energy-efficiency measures is low. A plethora of information on motor system design, best practices, purchasing, and management is widely available, but few companies have embraced it. Training opportunities and tools to deepen the knowledge base of end-users is necessary to apply motor and motor system efficiency measures at the plant level.

Most electric motor purchase and maintenance decisions affecting efficiency are made at the plant level. In addition, there has been limited training at this level regarding motor efficiency and motor system optimization. Studies have also shown that a low percentage of facility managers have implemented motor purchasing and maintenance specifications. These factors can be attributed to adoption of plant-level motor system efficiency improvements.

Motor efficiency

The Energy Policy Act (EPAct) became effective in 1997. EPAct requires 1-hp to 200-hp general-purpose motors sold in the United States to meet minimum efficiency levels, referred to as EPAct levels. The U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), effective December 2010, updated EPAct efficiency levels for 1-hp to 200-hp motors and established minimum efficiency levels for most 201-hp to 500-hp motors.

Motor efficiency is the ratio between the amount of mechanical work the motor performs and the electrical power it consumes to do the work, represented by a percentage. A higher percentage represents a more efficient motor. Electric motor efficiency is dependent on (but not limited to) design, materials, construction, rating, load, power quality, and operating conditions.

Power factor basics

PF, often discussed as an energy cost reduction measure, is not a true energy savings measure. Improving PF can reduce energy costs if the end-user is subject to utility PF charges. Users with electric utility rates based on energy use only, no demand charges (such as residential and small commercial users), will typically not benefit from PF correction measures. End-user PF correction is primarily applied to avoid electric utility charges for low PF and to reduce demand on end-user transformers and generators to free up capacity. Electric utilities, in order to reduce their system losses, encourage energy users to consume energy efficiently by defining their charges based on certain parameters. A common electric utility charge is for low PF.

Best described and understood by reviewing the components of an electrical system, PF is the ratio between kilowatts (kW) and kilovolt-amps (kVA). Total electrical power kVA has two components: real power kW and reactive power kilovolt-amps reactive (kVAR) mathematically described as:

kVA2 = kW2 + kVAR2

Power factor = kW kVA

Many commercial and industrial facility loads are motors, inductive loads requiring inductive reactive power. Capacitors provide reactive power electrically in the opposite direction of the inductive reactive power. Inductive kVAR can be reduced or canceled by adding capacitive kVAR. Unity PF, or 100% PF, is when kVA = kW. A lagging PF is any PF that is less than 100%, inductive kVAR, and is typical in commercial and industrial facilities. Leading PF, capacitive kVAR, is any PF that is greater than 100%. Leading PF is typically an undesirable electric condition for a variety of reasons. The variation in the reactive power component has no effect on the real power required by the load. Reactive power does have an effect on the kVA supplying the load and can make the load on the generator larger than necessary. Fixed capacitors on the main electric service are a common method to correct lagging PF. Facilities with large motors may also locate capacitors at motors, helping reduce conductor and transformer current load up to the motor.

Power factor and motor efficiency

Since reactive power does not perform any work, PF indicates the percentage of useful energy from the total energy and is best when it s as close to unity as possible. Low PF can contribute to low efficiency, higher losses, and unnecessary electric utility charges.

Induction motors require both real and reactive power to operate. The real power (kW) produces work and heat. The reactive power (kVAR) establishes the magnetic field in the motor that enables it to operate.

The PF of a motor is lower when the motor is under-loaded and is significantly reduced when the motor load is less than 70%. Closely matching the motor to the load is the best way to keep the PF close to the motor design rating, which is typically 80% to 85% PF.

Motor system power factor improvement project

I recently conducted a motor system, PF improvement project at a small industrial process plant with a significant amount of large motor load. At the time of the study, the aggregate plant peak demand was 480kW with an 85% PF, resulting in a $276 average monthly electric utility PF charge.

The objective of the project was to identify motors contributing to the less-than-desirable PF and improve the plant PF to avoid future PF charges. A process line, consisting of five induction motors (75 hp, 150 hp, 200 hp, and two at 125 hp) was identified to monitor the power use and PF of each motor in the process during a normal production cycle. A power monitor collected the data, and its associated software package was used to analyze the data. The Table shows a summary of the monitoring findings.

The power monitor measurements indicated all of the motors were under-loaded, which was driving the motor PF on M1 and M2 significantly below the nameplate rating. The findings also suggested the entire process line is oversized based on normal production. Under-loaded motors operate below nameplate PF, as seen in the Figure .

System improvement measures

To avoid electric utility PF charges, the plant needed to be at or above 90% PF. After careful analysis, discussion, and consideration, it was decided to reconfigure the process in a way that would allow 75-hp motor M1 to be removed. M1 was only 41% loaded and using inductive kVAR at 63% PF. There would also be some diversified kW demand reduction and possible energy savings by removing M1. Although demand and energy savings were difficult to calculate because the work that M1 was performing was transferred to motor M4 in the process, M4 had capacity to absorb the load from M1. There was also potential to improve the efficiency and PF of M4 with the load addition, effectively reducing the inductive kVAR contribution of M4.

Another improvement to the motor system was analyzed and determined to be a cost-effective measure to implement. It was decided to add 50 kVAR of capacitance at 200-hp motor M2. Based on the loading and PF measurements of M2, adding the capacitive kVAR would not correct the M2 PF above 90% but would provide enough capacitive kVAR, along with the M1 and M4 improvements, to bring the overall plant to 90% PF.

The results

The improvement measures implemented resulted in a plant PF of 93%, eliminating the $276 monthly PF charges. The measures also resulted in an average monthly plant peak demand reduction of 10kW a $90 monthly savings. The project payback was less than 18 months. Note: The plant had an existing, functioning 200 kVAR fixed capacitor in place at the main electric service entrance for PF support before this project began. This capacitor remains in place.

Considerations

There is a wide range of barriers that affect the implementation of motor system efficiency measures, including operating issues that affect decisions regarding allocation of resources. Motor system improvement results support the need to create plant level knowledge and tools necessary to improve motor systems. Decision leaders reviewing motor management practices need to decide their adequacy in satisfying improved effectiveness and cost savings goals that most leaders are faced with. Improvements to motor system management, purchasing, and training can lead to significant, sustainable savings. Considering the initial price of a motor only represents approximately 2% of its life-time operating cost, enormous savings potential exists.

What does it cost to insure a sports car?

Here’s what you need to know.

  • Luxury sports cars are expensive to purchase
  • Car insurance on sports cars is also expensive
  • Comparing car insurance rates will help you pay the best price for your premiums

Read through this review of sports car insurance costs to see just how much your sports car auto insurance rates may end up being.

It’s one thing to be riding first class in a snazzy vehicle, but most people forget that along with the atrocious cost of buying a mega-luxury sports car comes the car insurance .

Expensive vehicles have pricey parts that are harder to find, and when there is an accident, the likelihood of repair is not as good as regular cars you see on the street.

From Porsches to Beemers, here’s what you can expect to pay in auto insurance on these ultra-luxury vehicles.

Nissan GT-R

MSRP: $84,060
Engine: 3.8L V6 485HP
Average Annual Nissan GT-R Car Insurance Cost: $2,533.00

The GT-R has a cult following that may have something to do with the fact that it recently made its debut in North America. Prior to its introduction here, it was only available in Japan and on video games.

It seems clear that the insurance industry has taken note, and expects there to be some dramatic crashes of this vehicle. until buyers realize that the car is now real .

Porsche 911 Turbo

MSRP: $132,800
Engine: 3.8L H6 500HP
Average Annual Porsche 911 Turbo Car Insurance Cost: $2,706.04

Ever since Ferry Porsche designed his first sports car, they have been coveted by auto enthusiasts. Even so, you can expect to pay almost $3,000 per year for insurance just to own one of these.

And while it could be your daily driver, it would be hard to get all of the weekly groceries into this fine German machine.

Jaguar XKR

MSRP: $95,150
Engine: 5.0L V8 510HP
Average Annual Jaguar XKR Car Insurance Cost: $2,533.48

Jaguar has been a symbol of British luxury for years.

You might be surprised to know that the brand is now owned by an Indian company called Tata Motors, but judging by the European announcer on their commercials, they probably don’t want you to know that.

Audi R8

MSRP: $114,200
Engine: 4.2L V8 420HP
Average Annual Audi R8 Car Insurance Cost: $2,751.55

When the R8 was first unveiled, it was lauded for its unique design and form factor. To be sure, Audi had not made a striking vehicle in some time.

What’s also striking is the amount you’ll be paying to keep this vehicle insured: on average, R8 owners must shell out $229.25 per month for their policy. For that amount, you could finance a Honda!

Dodge Viper SRT10

MSRP: $90,362
Engine: 8.4L V10 600HP
Average Annual Dodge Viper SRT10 Car Insurance Cost: $2,815.90

Nothing says American might like the Dodge Viper. Nothing says fire-breathing power at the pedal when you’re dealing with six hundred horses.

And nothing says you’ve got a bunch of money to blow than by paying over $2,800 in order to legally drive this beast –er –reptile on the mean streets.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

MSRP: $66,650
Engine: 5.4L V8 355HP
Average Annual Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG Car Insurance Cost: $2,653.53

The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG probably wins the award here for the least expensive car, but in relation to the amount of insurance you have to pay, it’s still a raw deal.

Much of what makes it so expensive is the hard convertible top, which would cost a fortune to replace.

BMW 760Li

MSRP: $137,000
Engine: 6.0L V12 535HP
Average Annual BMW 760Li Car Insurance Cost: $2,565.59

They call BMW s, “The Ultimate Driving Machine,” and for good reason because ultimate machines are definitely sedans that need twelve cylinders with over five hundred horsepower.

Do most people really need ultimate machines to get to the gym? Probably not, but the reality is that it makes the insurance industry very happy.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class

MSRP: $105,750
Engine: 5.5L V8 382HP
Average Annual Mercedes Benz G Class Car Insurance Cost: $2,088.00

Honestly, this thing looks like an upscale Jeep that’s ready to tip over at any minute. But to each their own. And for their own ridiculousness, they can expect to pay as much in insurance as a sports car.

That may be why you almost never see these vehicles on the road, and it’s even less likely you would see them off-road, either.

Ford Mustang GT500

MSRP: $48,645
Engine: 5.4L V8 550HP
Average Annual Ford Mustang GT500 Car Insurance Cost: $2,186.00

The GT500 ’s list price is reasonable in relation to the amount of power under the hood. But unlike some other cars on this list, the Mustang really only has one purpose: smoky burnouts .

Sometimes, however, smoky burnouts lead to accidents. Thus, owners can expect to pay a premium for their smoky burnout hobby.

Porsche Panamera S

MSRP: $89,800
Engine: 4.8L V8 400HP
Average Annual Porsche Panamera S Car Insurance Cost: $2,744.78

Did you know that Porsche made a four door sedan? The famed roadster manufacturer breaks into the suburban market with this vehicle, guaranteeing that with the Panamera. you’re able to get the family wherever you need to, really fast .

Diode Laser Hair Removal

The Most Effective Treatments with the Newest, Fastest Laser in the World:

Contrary to popular belief, laser hair removal technologies are not all the same and are continuously evolving, just like any other technology. What was the best laser technology a couple of years ago may now be outdated, and many clinics are still using older lasers in order to amortise their investment on them, and some other low cost franchises are using second hand lasers in order to reduce their costs.

Our laser technology is the newest and used by the largest laser clinics in Europe and worldwide, and now is available exclusively at UNIQUE LASER clinics. Not all lasers and treatments are the same, more effective and faster treatments means you will save money and time overall.

1. Why we provide the Most Effective Treatments:

The effectiveness of a laser for hair removal depends on two main parametres:
1) The Wavelength and 2) The Fluence of energy to eliminate the hair.
1) The Diode laser wavelength has been scientifically proven to be the optimal for all skin types, including dark and tanned skin, unlike other wavelengths such as Alexandrite that can t treat tanned or dark skin; or the ND:Yag which is good for dark skin but less effective in white skin.

2) In terms of Fluence of energy our lasers are unbeatable. Facts: our lasers can provide up to 30 Joules in a large 21mm spot size, whereas others such as Candela alexandrite lasers can only provide 20 Joules in 18mm spot size (over 33% less).

2. Why we provide the Fastest Treatments:

Our lasers are the fastest in the world. Facts: our lasers deliver 4 pulses per second of 30 Joules in a large 21mm spot size, whereas others such as Candela alexandrite can only provide 2 pulses per second of 20 Joules in a 18mm spot size (50% less pulses, 33% less energy and smaller spot). This means that our treatments are faster and more effective as they provide the double of laser pulses in the same amount of time in a larger spot size.

3. We provide a Free patch test prior to your first treatment:

As every person is different our laser experts include a previous free patch test with your treatments in order to optimise your settings for your first session and get the best results –not just apply the same settings for everyone, like many other clinics do.

4. We are an award winning laser clinic:

Our team of laser experts and superior technology have been trusted by thousands because we provide the best results see why clients keep on referring us. Getting the best results means that you will save money and time overall with our treatments, and this is our commitment to our clients. Don t make the mistake of just looking at single session prices.

Property Survey Cost

A property or land survey determines the boundary lines and accurate measurements of a specific parcel, lot or acreage. The process typically involves researching official records and doing field work on the property. A land survey may be required or desired when buying or selling property, building a fence or a house addition, subdividing a property, splitting a lot, or obtaining or refinancing a mortgage. Many local building or fence permits require a boundary survey, and many lending institutions require a current detailed land survey to reveal any problems with boundary lines, easements and encroachments.

  • Many surveyors charge $50-$220 or more an hour, depending on the type of work performed and the qualifications of the person doing the work. For example, Homestead Land Surveying [1 ] in California charges $55 an hour for the services of a junior survey technician, $95 an hour for a senior technician, $135 an hour for the principal land surveyor, $150 an hour for a two-person field crew and $220 an hour for a three-person field crew. GJB Engineering [2 ] in Virginia charges $50 an hour for administrative work, $85 an hour for a surveying draftsman, $100 an hour for a technician, $150 an hour for a professional surveyor and $140 an hour for a two-person surveying crew.
  • Total costs depend on the type and complexity of survey. A developer building new houses might have surveys done of the entire development then sell a copy of a specific parcel survey to the buyer of that lot for $300-$500. A typical residential lot survey might cost $300-$1,000 depending on local rates and the size and type of parcel; placing permanent stone or metal boundary markers may be optional at $100-$300 each. For example, Texas Land Title Surveyors [3 ] estimates a residential land title survey including staking property corners at $350, and a topographic survey for beach front construction at $450. Ramsey Surveying [4 ] in Arkansas estimates a typical lot survey for less than a half acre at $500 in subdivisions newer than 1970 and $750 for subdivisions older than 1950, with boundary surveys on up to 10 acres starting at $750-$850, and 10-20 acre parcels at $1,750 or more.
  • The cost of a land survey is based on several factors, including the parcel size and accessibility (distance to site and difficulty surveying all lines and corners); availability of information and records; existing evidence on the property (markers from previous surveys); time of year and weather conditions; complexity (a property described as part of a one-mile section may legally require surveying the entire section); improvements like houses, garages, fences or pavement; and more. LandSurveyor.us lists factors affecting the cost of a land survey.

Related articles: Building a Custom Home. Home Addition. Family Room Addition. Fence

What should be included:

  • Provide as much information as possible, including legal documents or plans for the property, any available details on boundary line and corner locations, and any disputes about these lines or corners. Typically, the final product will be a signed, sealed and certified map of the property surveyed, showing what was surveyed and, depending on the type of survey, information like which corners were found or marked, improvements on the property and any encroachments across the boundaries. Link Field Services in Texas provides an overview.
  • There are many different land surveys. A subdivision survey is needed when subdividing a property and must follow local government regulations. A boundary survey locates the corners, lines and easements for a given parcel. LandSurveyor.us describes types of land surveys and lists common misconceptions and myths.
  • In addition to traditional transit and tape, modern surveyors also use electronic distance and angle measuring equipment, including GPS for greater accuracy and efficiency on some types of surveys. Often a surveyor spends more time researching records than viewing and measuring the property. Link Field Services in Texas gives step-by-step examples of the tasks and manpower needed for an average boundary survey of 20 rural acres and an average residential subdivision lot survey.
  • A land surveyor must be licensed by the state; most states require a four-year degree in surveying or a related science, plus 4-8 years working under the direct supervision of a licensed surveyor.

Discounts:

  • If a previous survey was done recently and the same surveyor is available, that surveyor might recertify the original survey 25%-50% of the cost of doing a new land survey.

Shopping for a property survey:

  • Prices vary significantly; get several estimates. The state associations [5 ] of the National Association of Professional Surveyors typically provide referrals.
  • The surveyor should provide a written agreement or contract detailing what will be surveyed, the type of survey, the agreed-upon fee and when the final survey will be delivered.

Type of Survey: Residential – 1940s

The cost of the survey really depends upon how old the lot is, what types of land markers are still visible, and what county/cities plans are available they may or may not dispute the lines. We lived in a home that was built in the 1940s and the clerk’s office had varied plans that did not make any sense concerning our boundaries between our two neighbors. We were lucky that we had two boundary marks cites in pervious plans. Basically, the surveyor not only maps your area but there can be a lot of research behind the scenes that also need to be done. That can also take several hours. Remember- you want to pay to have it done right the first time!!

How To: Refinance Your Mortgage Without Paying Closing Costs

by Alex Stenback on September 22, 2011

Refinancing can be expensive. But it does not have to be.

That s because, with a little bit of creative thinking, or if you are working with a lender that knows what they are doing (and probably does not work under the thumb of a major national bank,) your lender will pay your costs for you.

This means: No closing costs. Zero. Nothing added to the loan or paid outright.

Sounds like the best deal ever, right?

Why doesn t everyone refinance this way?

To understand why, and how this works, we need to wade briefly – into the topic of how mortgage interest rates are offered, or priced.

Stay with me here.

Repeat After Me: There s No Such thing as Today s Rate

What s the 30 year rate today?

Whether I am at a cocktail party (confession: I don t think I have ever been to a cocktail party ) or picking up the phone, it is a question I hear all the time.

It echoes in my head, and will probably be engraved on my tombstone.

And it is the wrong question.

That s because there simply is no rate issued each day by the powers that be. There is a schedule, or stack of rates each with a corresponding price.

Here s a grossly (laughably) oversimplified version of what lenders see every day when rates are released:

Actual rate sheets are a good deal more complicated than what you see here – many more decimals and adjustments to price based on myriad factors, but the central point to be made is this:

On any given day, no matter the overall interest rate levels,

– Lower rates are more expensive than higher rates and require a borrower to pay points.

– You can also receive, or bepaid points for a higher rate.

The No-Cost Refinance, Explained

Once you undertsand the concept that there is no rate but rates, and you can both pay or be paid points, understanding the no-cost refinance is straightforward.

By accepting a higher rate (but still much lower than your current rate, of course) the lender will use the premium paid for that rate (sometimes called yield spread premium ) to pay your costs.

This is why no-cost refinancing can make so much sense. In the simplest of terms: You lower your mortgage rate, and pay nothing to do so.

For instance: If you are starting at a rate of 5.5%, and you can a) refinance to 4% without paying closing costs, or b) refinance to 3.75% and pay thousands. Which do you choose?

It is awfully hard to build a case for ever paying closing costs unless you know that you will own the home and have the mortgage for the very, very long term.

Bottom line: The additional savings at the incrementally lower full cost rate rarely justifies the expense.

*With a No-Cost, even if you are wrong, you are right

The other great thing about the no-cost refinance? You never need to time the market. You need never hope that you guessed right or beat yourself up if rates fall again.

Because you have paid zero costs, there is zero risk. If rates keep falling, you just do another no cost. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Bottom-Bottom Line: If you are disciplined about doing a no-cost refinance every time rates drop, you effectively guarantee that no matter what happens to interest rates, you will always be within 1/2 point of the lowest mortgage rates ever get, and will never pay a dime to do so.

Finally, despite my erudite clumsy attempt to explain a no-cost refinance above, sometimes it just does not click until you see the no-cost numbers run out against your own loan there s got to be a hook, or a catch somewhere, right?

Anyway, if the idea intrigues you, but you are unsure how this might work in your particular situation (or worried about the hook!) drop me a line and I d be happy to personally run-out the numbers for you.

Becuase when it does click, you will say the same thing as everyone else: Why doesn t everybody do it this way

*A Few Cautionary Notes:

Before you run off seeking a no-cost refinance, it is important to understand a few nuances, and that a no-cost refinance will not work for everyone.

If you are escrowed for taxes and insurance. you will be required to establish an escrow account on the new loan this will normally mean a cash outlay at closing (assume about 6 months taxes and 6 months insurance, but it varies based on the time of year and what state you are in.) This generally works out a wash your current escrow balance will be a refund within 30 days of closing, and you ll skip your regularly scheduled mortgage payment the first of the month following the refinance.

If you are really pressed for cash, most lenders will allow you to add escrow amounts to the loan.

Appraisals matter. Unless you are refinancing an FHA mortgage, you will need an appraisal to refinance, and despite the expanded rules of the Home Affordable Refinance Program, many in-the-money refinances that should happen, won t, due to lack of equity.

Loan Amounts matter. As a general rule, the bigger the loan (up to the conforming limit of $417,000 in MN) the easier it is to do a no-cost. That s because the premium paid for the higher rate is paid as a percentage of the loan amount. 1% of $50,000 is $500.00. 1% of 300,000 is $3,000, which goes a lot further to cover closing costs, many of which are fixed, no matter the loan size.

Steer clear of major national banks that also service mortgages. N0-costs are mostly considered kryptonite by these banks. This is because they also have an interest in the servicing of the loan, and can actually lose money by doing too many no-costs. As a result, they often will do everything they can to talk you out of these, and generally offer weak premiums for above market rates.

Thinking about refinancing? Need a no-cost rate quote?

Whether a no-cost, or not, drop me a line with a few bullet points about what you are looking to do and I will personally reply in short order with some solid numbers.

2017 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2017 Toyota Tundra Review

Comparison Review

Comfort
Due to its greater head- and legroom, passengers in the extended cab will be able to stretch out a lot more in the Toyota Tundra than in the Toyota Tacoma. As far as headroom and legroom go, there’s not much difference between the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tundra.

Convenience
You’ll be making about the same number of stops at the gas station with the Toyota Tacoma as you will with the Toyota Tundra, as they can travel a similar number of miles on a tank of gas.

Cost
There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). Clearly, the Toyota Tacoma is a better financial choice over the Toyota Tundra, when considering MSRP. Another consideration is the Destination Charge, which is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle to the dealer from where it’s built. The Toyota Tacoma carries a much lower Destination Charge than the Toyota Tundra.

Dimensions
Since the Toyota Tacoma is much slimmer than the Toyota Tundra, it’ll be much easier to find a wide enough space in a crowded parking lot. If you go with the Toyota Tacoma, you’ll have a much easier time finding a large enough space to park than you will with the Toyota Tundra.

Drivetrain
With its lower torque engine, the Toyota Tacoma doesn’t do as good a job transmitting horsepower to its wheels as the Toyota Tundra.

Handling
The Toyota Tacoma has a smaller turning radius than the Toyota Tundra, allowing you to more easily get in and out of tight spots.

Performance
If you’ve got something you need to tow, the Toyota Tacoma will do just as well as the Toyota Tundra, since they have about the same towing capacity. The Toyota Tacoma has a little less horsepower than the Toyota Tundra.

Utility
The Toyota Tacoma has less seating than the Toyota Tundra, making the Toyota Tundra the better choice if you often have passengers.

Warranty
The Toyota Tacoma comes with essentially the same basic warranty as the Toyota Tundra.

Compare the 2017 Toyota Tacoma and the 2017 Toyota Tundra.

Hello Nkoli,
These bad schools are still running their programs with the problems they have. I was lucky to find out early before paying any money to them. Right now i am schooling in a community college. One of the schools is on Fairground street in cobb county, can’t remember the name, the other is World Outreach. with 2 branches, one in Atlanta and the other on Austell rd, cobb county. Maybe they have fixed whatever the problems were but i am not ready for risks.

I asked my friend. we know about the school on fairground street. it’s bad. we haven’t heard of world outreach. The school my friend is thinking about going to says tht clinicals are done in jamaica. have you heard of any schools like that in atl? my friend says she found out about the school from her cousin in decatur. it just seems really wierd that someone would study here and then go all way to jamaica for clincial. anyway, let me know if you know of any of those schools.

World Outreach Medical Institute is affiliated to a school in Jamaica, another one in downtown Atlanta is also affiliated to a school in Jamaica. I have concluded that it is better to go to a regular school and do all the pre-reqs and get an admission for Nursing. I am doing the pre-reqs and they are not as bad as i thought, i am actually acing them, tell your friend to give it a try instead of losing money with such private schools.

Websites give free cost estimates for car repairs

By Gitte Laasby of the Journal Sentinel

Updated Nov. 14, 2013

Consumers who need a car repair but are worried about getting ripped off by a mechanic can get free guidance online.

RepairPal gives free estimates of how much it will cost to get a specific problem with a specific vehicle fixed at a mechanic where you live. The calculator lets you pick a make, model and vehicle year and a zip code.

The website will respond with a price range for the repair. The site features everything from maintenance services, such as oil changes and transmission fluid changes, to problems with the engine, brakes, suspension and steering, exhaust and emissions, electrical and lights, heating and air conditioning. It also lists how much a diagnosis will run you.

The site will also make notes about potential repair costs, such as warnings if other parts may need to be replaced as part of the repair.

RepairPal uses information from technicians and analysts who spent 75,000 hours analyzing the cost of labor and parts for various repairs in zip codes. The system also relies on proprietary data not previously available to consumers, according to the site.

The site was founded in 2007 by a group of car enthusiasts and entrepreneurs who were frustrated by the expensive and tedious process of fixing and maintaining their vehicles.

They created RepairPal to provide deivers with the most accurate, unbiased and useful car ownership information available, the website states. Unlike any other online resource, RepairPal provides impartial, fair price estimates, the most comprehensive auto shop directory, and expert insights and advice from certified mechanics.

RepairPal is not owned by any car manufacturer, dealership or auto repair facility, but it does partner with such entities as Consumer Reports, U.S. News Automotive, AOL Autos, AARP, Cars.com, CarQuest Auto Parts, the Bosch Service Network and the Automotive Service Association.

Some other car repair estimators online: Napa and AOL Autos license RepairPal’s data, so they produce the same results, according to MSN Money. AutoMD will also compare dealer prices with independent repair shop prices and do-it-yourself costs. Other resources, including Consumer Reports, will give you estimates, too, but you need to be a subscriber.

Have any good tips for how your fellow readers can make sure they get a reasonable price on their car repairs? Feel free to share by commenting below.

Refinance Calculator – Traditional, Low Cash Out & No Cost Options

We’ve been asked thousands of times: “Is it better to pay closing costs out of pocket, finance them into the loan amount, or trade them for a higher interest rate?” There’s no one simple answer, since each refinance choice has its own benefits and total costs over time. One may be more or less expensive depending upon how long you’ll hold onto the mortgage.

The TriRefi calculator allows you to run the numbers for a Traditional Refinance. a Low-Cash-Out Refinance and a No-Cost Refinance so you can determine which is best for you. Fill in the information once and instantly compare the costs and savings.

The Traditional Refinance calculator assumes you pay the closing costs out of pocket today. While you get the benefit of the lower interest rate, you have to overcome your outlay today before you realize any benefit. This is your breakeven point, and in order to get any real savings, you’ll need to stay in the new mortgage beyond this point. We assume that the fee for refinancing will be approximately 2 points (2 percent of the loan amount) but if it is different, you can change it; just type the expected dollar amount into the yellow box.

You pay the fees once, and then they are gone.

The “Low-Cash-Out Refinance” calculation (LCOR) uses the Estimated Costs you plugged into the Traditional Calculator. However, instead of you paying them today out-of-pocket, it adds them into the loan amount you are borrowing. This is a popular choice for homeowners who have some equity available and don’t want to (or can’t) come up with the cash needed to get a new mortgage.

Since you are financing the costs, you’ll not only pay them but also interest on them. However, you are only paying them a little at a time, and depending upon how long you remain in the mortgage, they may cost you more or less than if you paid them right up front, as you would have in a traditional refinance.

A “No-Cost” refinance might be your best bet if you don’t have cash to spend or equity to use for your refinance. You can still refinance, but you won’t get today’s rock-bottom interest rate, but instead something slightly above the market. As such, your interest rate and payment differential will be smaller, possibly making your refinance less valuable. We assume that the interest rate available for a “no-cost” refinance will be a half-percentage point higher than if you had paid the fees. If it is different, you can change the information in the yellow box.

In effect, since the whole amount of your loan will be exposed to this “higher-than-market” interest rate, your savings over time will be smaller than if you could use one of the other options.

Below the initial calculations, we’ve provided some examples of your costs over time, including the interest cost and the remaining loan balance after a given period of time. This way, you can see what those costs will be at varying intervals. You might find, for example, that relative to your time frame, incorporating the fees into the interest rate might mean they cost you less in interest over a given period than the amount you might have paid out-of-pocket up front.

Tip: Check current mortgage rates to make sure you are getting the best deal on your mortgage. To learn more about refinancing and refinancing options, visit our library .

Before you add in your actual numbers, we suggest that you use an example of an existing loan which is three years old, with a $100,000 loan amount for 30 years and a 6% interest rate, and use a 4% rate for refinancing. It will make it easier to follow the discussion of savings comparisons below.

The Blue. Green and Orange displays here will allow you to see if paying or financing the costs of your refinance works out for you over given time horizons. When you pay the fees up front, your interest charges will of course be lower; however, you must overcome what you spent today before savings start to happen.

Let’s say that after a year, your traditional refinance has seen you spend a total of $3813 in interest cost. Over the same time, the LCOR’s interest cost is $3889, while the “no cost” option has seen you pay $4292.

If you should suddenly sell your home after a year, your actual cost for the traditional refinance would include the $3813 plus an additional $1922 in closing costs for a total of $5735, while the other choices would have cost $3889 and $4292 respectively, so you would have been better off with one of them.

Factoring in the differences in remaining loan balances does change the equation, though. At the end of the 12-month period you still owe $1755 more on the LCOR than the traditional refinance, bringing the total of your LCO refinance to $3955, just slightly better than the paid-up-front choice.

However, building those costs into the interest rate means your “no-cost” refinance has seen you spend $4292 in interest, plus the $142 differential in remaining balance – so the total cost after 12 months is only $4434, a clear winner. over this very short time horizon.

These relationships change over time, however. After 10 years, you’ve spent a lot more in interest charges in the “no-cost” refinance than you would have if you chose to pay costs or build them into the loan amount.

All this said, in order to determine what your best choice will be over time, you’ll need to compare both interest costs and remaining balances among the various methods.

Whatever the method you choose for your refinance, you’ll still want to know how much money you’ll save relative to your existing loan – your costs if you never refinanced in the first place. The tables and charts below compare the interest costs of your new loan versus old over comparable time periods. As in the example above, this would compare the interest you’ll pay in the first twelve months of your new loan versus the interest you would have paid in the period from 37-48 months, and so on.

Refinancing may mean restarting your loan all over again. If you had been in your home for three years, and refinanced to a new 30-year term, you’ll pay for your loan for as long as 33 total years. The tables and charts below will let you see how the outstanding balance on your original loan would have fared relative to the new mortgage. Since the new mortgage is restarted all over again, even a significantly lower interest rate may not be able to overcome (or overcome quickly) the benefits of being further along in your amortization schedule, where the principal portion of your payment has grown while the interest component continues to shrink.

State-run treatment centers allocate funds for treatment and pass the funding for rehab down to county-funded treatment centers. This allows for those that need help finding free drug rehab centers the ability to enter into a program for their addiction with no monetary exchange.

Government sponsored rehab centers for addiction are not that much different from the top rated rehab centers. The main difference between a state or county funded drug rehab is the amenities that are offered. Most state-run treatment facilities will have 2-4 people per room depending on the size of the rooms in their inpatient rehab center. The location of state-run treatment programs for addiction are usually in more heavily populated cities throughout the state, whereas private drug and alcohol treatment centers are usually in more secluded locations, with private rooms, on the water, or in the mountains. Private Drug Rehab Centers have a bit better staff to client ratio but that does not always dictate a better program.

This question will cross the minds of most people who have decided that they need to seek some sort of treatment for their addiction. Although outpatient treatment at a state-run treatment program can work for some people; we more often times, will recommend going into a treatment center that is inpatient for at least 21 days followed up by outpatient services.

To be successful in a government-funded outpatient treatment program you will need to be very self-motivated and have a great support system at home for it to be successful. Pressures from home and our old friends can make the journey more difficult, for some people there can still be access to drugs or alcohol making recovery even harder.

The Cost Of House Alarm Systems

House alarm systems have become a common security feature for many homes in the 21st century, yet some homes still haven t installed them.

Why? For a lot of people it s the cost that puts them off. Times have changed though, and so have the prices.

So what does it cost to get a house alarm system in 2016?

First off, the best thing you can do is think of the return you ll get from a security alarm.

  • Your insurance premium will be cheaper
  • Your family can sleep soundly
  • Your possessions will be secure
  • You re much less likely to suffer the mental side effects of burglary
  • Your family will be safe

Now, add up in your head how much you think that s worth. Your family s safety and their mental well being . A lot, right?

Not to mention that, following a burglary, families are far more likely to move home due to the stresses associated with it.

How much should House Alarm Systems cost?

Thankfully, burglar alarms aren t priced at what they re actually worth, though you have a choice in how much you wish to invest. A choice that could mean the difference between suffering a home invasion, or not.

These days you can pick up a cheap, DIY burglar alarm system for less than £100. While a professionally installed system can start at around £700, increasing the larger and more advanced the system becomes.

Why do prices differ so much for House Alarm Systems?

Well, some alarm systems offer many more features than others, your cheap DIY system for example, won t necessarily be able to do everything you need it to. Or perform as accurately as you need it to.

Of course the professional engineer costs more because you will be paying for the labour costs that you save with the DIY system. Though in reality, you might still need somebody to install the system for you and if you think hiring a professional is expensive, try hiring an amateur .

Cheaper systems won t have the benefit of being installed by a NSI Gold accredited security company. The accreditation, which we have, proves both competence in installation and reliability in action as it ensures your alarms are in the optimal places, providing maximum protection and coverage for your home. Something that reduces false alarm rates and sleepless nights!

Some of the cost from the professionally installed systems can also be put down to monitoring services, whereby house alarm systems can be set up to call the police if triggered.

When your alarm goes off and there is a burglar in or around your home, do you want to be left to fend on your own, or would you like the reassurance that a police car will be on its way ASAP?

You won t get that with your home installed alarm and this can make the difference for a lot of people between cheap and professional installations.

What is the Average Cost to Paint a Car

The average cost to paint a car has a number of it depends factors attached to it.

Special Offers

If you get your car repainted during special offers, then the average cost goes down by 20-30%. For example, MAACO offers a weekend special price during many weekends. Just like MAACO, during the President s Day Weekend, the Nationwide Auto Painting Chain offers, at least offered through a specific date, a $299.95 special to repaint your old, dull-looking car into a new vibrant-looking vehicle.

Body Work

If your entire vehicle needs only a simple tire removal, masking and spray paint, you will find that the job will cost between $400- $500, plus tax, if your state charges a service tax.

The cost to repaint a car depends on other factors, such as repair work. If your car is in a condition where the mechanic needs to work on the body to bring it back to good condition, it could raise the cost of the repainting significantly. For example, if your car requires stripping the old layer, removing dents and then repainting the car, then the cost of repainting will be between $1,500-$4,500.

In general, it can cost anywhere from $3,000 to as much as $10,000 or more to repaint a vehicle from a garage. The process itself involves sanding the vehicle to bare metal and then masking the car with any bright and window work, as well as the wheels. Once this is done you must then wash the old metal to clean it thoroughly. Once done, the mechanic applies longevity, enhancing primer to your vehicle s metal. Surface color is reapplied properly, followed by Clearcoat. You can look at spending anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000 to have this work performed correctly.

Do it Yourself

If you have the knowledge and wish to repaint the car yourself, then you can save a few bucks. But it is recommended to take this job oneself, if you have complete know-how of the project. For repainting the car yourself, you will need various tools such as covers, spray gun, paints etc. Now the cost of the paint can range anywhere from $100 to $1,000, as you will need to apply several layers of the paint, if you want the paint last for long time. If you are looking for best brands in paints, then it can cost up to $6,000.

Wide Range of Restoration

So, depending on the size of the vehicle, you may find you can have the work done for as little as $500 or as much as $50,000. In many cases, you will also find that your restoration facility will also wet-sand the vehicle to remove dings and scratches, and that they will charge you from $2,000 to $3,000 for the completed work.

At the very most, you will likely find your cost will be in the $3,000 to $4,000 range, but remember you must have the work done correctly and also have the body prepared correctly, or the job won t be to your credit at all.
