Chevy Auto Body Parts

A name as synonymous with America as apple pie and baseball, Chevy remains one of the unquestioned leaders of the automotive industry. Founded by William Durant and French racecar driver Louis Chevrolet in 1911, Chevy has been around for more than a century. Durant was let go by GM before meeting Chevrolet when the vision to begin a new company took hold. Right from the beginning, Chevy experienced enormous success, allowing Durant to buy enough shares of GM to take control. Since that time, Chevy has been responsible for designing and developing a wide variety of vehicles and parts for drivers from every walk of life. Trucks, sedans, and SUVs in every size and style are featured in the Chevy lineup. From the Silverado and the Camaro to the Tahoe and Impala, Chevy’s tale is one of perseverance, dedication, and excellence.

The golden age of the 50’s saw Chevy bound ahead of the competition. Power brakes, seats, and windows became available for the first time. The Corvette made its debut in 1953 as Chevy’s first modern sports car, instantly becoming a pinup classic along with the Bel Air. This was an exciting time but the sixties proved to be even more influential. The Corvair, which premiered in 1959, featured an air-cooled engine and a “compact” body – one of the first of its kind. Of course, the late sixties saw the advent of the Camaro, a sleekly-styled roadster that would go on to become an American classic. By the seventies, however, it became apparent that another one of Chevy’s greatest strengths was in its line of trucks. Despite the acclaim cars such as the Vega and Chevette received, Chevy’s CK Pickup was one of the most popular in its class, leaving the brand with the confidence to pursue the emerging market of trucks and SUVs.

The Blazer and the Suburban reinforced Chevy’s place when it came to SUVs, giving the brand two strong competitors in what was at the time a growing segment. The eighties saw Chevy showcase successful models in every class: the Monte Carlo, Nova, Caprice, and Camaro for sedans; the Blazer and Suburban for SUVs; and the CK Pickup held down the truck segment until the arrival of the Silverado at the end of the nineties. Today, Chevy is stronger than ever before. With models like the Impala, Avalanche, Colorado, Trailblazer, Kodiak, and Corvette, there is a Chevy out there for everyone. And thanks to the recent fleet of hybrid vehicles, the brand has even shown the ability to lead the charge in the “go green” effort that has become vital to the auto industry.

When it comes to Chevrolet, the one word that probably comes to mind is dominance. And if not, then it should, because Chevy has kept a firm grip on the American auto industry ever since their first models rolled off the line. Drivers from every background depend on Chevy to give them what they need, from NASCAR champions to the everyday person who craves performance and dependability. Street-minded sedans, SUVs, crossovers, and trucks have all contributed to the patriotic success story that has made this brand so special. Maybe that’s one reason why Chevrolet owners treat their rides like members of the family. With that in mind, treating your own model correctly means finding the right Chevy Accessories and Parts that represent you the best way possible. After all, that is what it’s all about.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the bowtie brand’s full-size, light-duty pickup truck. It’s a perennial best-seller, and a relative of the GMC Sierra.

Competition for the Silverado includes the Ram 1500, Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan.

Like any good pickup, the Silverado is available in a number of styles and trim levels that range from work trucks to more luxurious options such as the High Country model. As of its redesign for the 2014 model year, the Silverado is stronger, more efficient, and more pleasant to be in and drive than ever.

The 2017 variant’s biggest change is the availability of automatic emergency braking on top-tier models.

The new Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Chevy Silverado was extensively refreshed for 2014, with an upright, chiseled look inside and out; a stronger yet more fuel-efficient lineup of engines; quieter, more refined cabins; and a noteworthy set of safety and infotainment technology. The beefier visage nods to the looks of Chevy’s HD trucks while adding a luxury-car feature set to the top of the lineup.

Under the hood, the Silverado has been fitted with a new generation of GM V-6 and V-8 engines, all with a common architecture, direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing. Gas mileage, power, and torque are all improved. The base engine is a 285-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-6, the mid-level is a 5.3-liter V-8 good for 355 hp, and the top choice is a 6.2-liter V-8 making 420 hp. All used 6-speed transmissions at the beginning, though the 6.2-liter was upgraded to a new 8-speed auto for 2015, and high-line versions of the 5.3-liter V-8 got it in 2016. The new trucks are truly modern and very competitive with their domestic counterparts.

Chevy has added several active-safety features as options on the latest Silverado, including lane-departure warning and collision warning. For 2016, it also got IntelliBeam headlights and active lane keep. The infotainment system uses Chevy’s latest MyLink software, which can stream audio from Pandora, connect to Bluetooth phones, and accept voice commands or inputs through its 8.0-inch touchscreen. The processor has been upgraded for 2016, and a version with a 7.0-inch touchscreen has been added for lower line models. The extended-cab trucks have switched to front-hinged short doors, with longer doors available and tied to more rear-seat room on crew-cab models. The tailgate is damped for a soft landing when opened, there are lights in the cargo bed, and the rear bumper has small steps integrated into its corners for easier access to cargo.

Updates were few for 2015. In addition to the new transmission, they included available LTE connectivity for OnStar, which could also be used as a wi-fi hotspot. Chevy also offered a Black Out package for WT (work truck) models, which did exactly what you’d expect to the trim and wheels. The Silverado Custom was also added as an LS double cab with 20-inch wheels, chrome bumpers, chrome mirror caps, and a few other dress-up items, creating what can be referred to as a special-value package.

Other 2016 changes include the addition of wireless phone charging for models with front bucket seats, new power-articulating side steps for the High Country, and an available remote locking tailgate.

For 2017, automatic emergency braking was added to top trim levels, and a teen driver safety feature was added to all trims that can notify parents if teens are speeding, driving too far, or triggering automatic safety systems.

The Silverado has been on sale since 1999, when General Motors gave the name to its C/K pickup trucks developed under the code name GMT800. In that first generation, the Silverado carried on with the rugged look and capability that GM’s trucks used to battle the Ford F-150, their sales arch-rival. From the 1999 to the 2006 model year, the Silverado was sold in hundreds of configurations—nearly all of them powered by a V-8 engine teamed to a four-speed automatic transmission. A 5-speed automatic came later, as did GM’s first hybrid—which in this case was a very “mild” hybrid which simply stored some recouped energy to feed electrical systems, including a power point in its pickup bed.

In 2007, GM introduced the first of the “GMT900” trucks—the project was accelerated as GM hoped strong sales would lift it back into profitability. While that didn’t quite pan out, the GMT900s were an instant success, receiving good reviews for their more upscale styling, rich interiors, and improved drivetrains. The Silverado remained one of the best full-size trucks for its seemingly endless variety of configurations: three body styles that offered seating for up to six in front of a bed that came in short and long variants.

This Silverado shared its running gear with many vehicles across the GM brands. The Chevrolet Silverado, Avalanche, Suburban, and Tahoe all were related, as were the heavy-duty versions of the Silverado and Suburban. GMC’s Sierra, Suburban, and Yukon were almost identical to them, spun from the same architecture, as was the Cadillac Escalade. The Hummer H2 was also a distant cousin of these trucks and sport-utility vehicles.

This Silverado also offered a plainer and a quite nice interior design; a choice of four gas engines and a Two-Mode Hybrid model; and rear- or four-wheel drive. The most powerful, 403-hp V-8 Silverado had fuel economy of 12 mpg city, 19 highway, but the Hybrid edition earned ratings of 20 mpg city, 23 highway, according to the EPA. Towing topped out at more than 10,700 pounds. While the Silverado’s rear seats were a little too vertical, the interior was as comfortable as the competitors’, save for the Ram 1500. Advanced features ranged from a trailer-sway mode in the stability-control system, to dealer-installed wireless internet access.

Changes were minimal going through 2013. Powertrain Grade Braking—to improve stability on hills, when towing—was included for 2013 in all models with the 6-speed automatic.

Overall I’m pleased with the truck. Having owned it for sever months I’ve come to find the stiff suspension is a bit punishing over bad pavement but otherwise smooth on average to good pavement. The 8 speed. Overall I’m pleased with the truck. Having owned it for sever months I’ve come to find the stiff suspension is a bit punishing over bad pavement but otherwise smooth on average to good pavement. The 8 speed transmission can prove quirky at times as well as the AFM but relative to the good gas mileage it routinely gets I feel it’s tolerable. So far no problems in the first 12 months. + More

I was not a fan of the following generation, but with GM’s introduction of the redesigned Silverado’s, they’ve completely knocked it out of the park. I previously owned a 2007 Silverado Classic and loved it. I was not a fan of the following generation, but with GM’s introduction of the redesigned Silverado’s, they’ve completely knocked it out of the park with look and performance. My 2016 Silverado is performs like a dream!

In my opinion, people tend to overreact to the F150’s aluminum body and twin turbo V6 package, claiming that it is lighter and more fuel efficient. What people don’t realize is the truck will now be required to run premium gas to meet the standards they “say” they put out, making it now less cost-effective. Further, insurance premiums and cost will rise as well due to the cost of maintenance to the aluminum body.

In conclusion, the F150 does not compare to the Silverado at all. + More

It sounds like a belt noise. I have had it at my selling dealer 4 times in 21 thousand miles for normal service and have told the service writer each time about it. They say they don’t hear anything. The problem with that is they don’t log my complaint in to the records. I figure they will hear the noise after the warranty runs out and the water pump or alt craps out. Otherwise I am very satisfied. The truck has the 5.3 engine with 3.23 gears and is a 4×4 extended cab. In over 23000 miles my truck has given me an average of 18 mpg. Might not sound like much but I have a heavy foot and I don’t baby my truck (I don,t beat it either) I use it as it is intended,On long trips it gets good mileage and is very comfortable + More

Announcing the most comprehensive reference ever compiled on production totals
for the 1968-1972 Chevrolet intermediate series cars

Monte Carlo, Chevelle, Malibu, SS, 300 Deluxe, Heavy Chevy, Concours, Greenbrier, Nomad, El Camino, GMC Sprint

After years of research, some light is finally being shed on the mysteries of Chevrolet A-body production totals. Daniel Carr has designed a new print showing detailed production tables for all Chevelle models including 2-door sedans, 2-door coupes, 2-door convertibles, 4-door sedans, station wagons, and sedan pickups. Included are detailed production totals for the Chevelle s cousin – the Monte Carlo, as well as the El Camino s cousin – the GMC Sprint. Data on US-built and Canadian-built cars is also presented.

The print also shows images of 25 selected vehicles in vivid color. Anyone who appreciates these cars will find it to be a very impressive work of art for display in any office, den, or garage. It is printed on heavy 80# paper stock, and has the look and feel of fine art prints. At 42 by 32 inches, it is very large. The large size was necessary for displaying all the relevant information. A person could literally spend hours pouring over all the details presented.

Every piece of available information was utilized to compile the data, including model totals, option totals, and engine totals. Production totals are given for every model and engine combination. And on big blocks, the production totals are even broken down by manual and automatic transmissions for every model. Where there is missing data, the holes have been filled in using statistical techniques (interpolation) to generate unbiased estimates. The data charts are color coded, so it is obvious which totals are estimates, and which totals are derived directly from Chevrolet reports.

The often-asked questions, such as how many 1969 Chevelle SS-396 4-speed convertibles did they build , have finally been answered with some degree of confidence. It is interesting to see that many well-known models may not be quite as rare as previously thought, while many lesser-known varieties are indeed very unusual.

The 25 vehicles pictured on the print cover a wide variety of models, including many of the rarest and most desirable versions.

The fleet of performance cars that came out of the 60s and 70s with the famous Chevy bowtie stamped on them is virtually endless. From meaty muscle cars like the Camaro to streamline sports cars like the Corvette, the choices were abundant. But when it came to the meatier performance cars that went above and beyond the rest of those in the muscle car market, nothing screamed Chevy performance quite like the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6. A single-year option, this bowtie beast is so exclusive, in fact, that many enthusiasts still dream of owning one today.

The Chevrolet Chevelle made its debut just as the muscle car era was getting started. Introduced to compete with the Ford Fairlane, the Chevelle, however, still carried with it some odes to the past just like many early muscle cars, like the 115-inch wheelbase found previously on the famed Chevy Tri-Fives. But Chevy s entrance into the muscle car world was not futile and the Chevelle quickly transformed from a bulky under-powered family car in early 1964 to a more sporty muscle machine starting just half a year later, thanks to the introduction of optional engines with more cubic inches.

By 1970. the Chevelle had seen the Malibu nameplate move to only certain models, undergone a couple of serious design overhauls and gained transmission and engine options to include 2, 3 and 4-speed gearboxes, as well as powerplants like the Chevy 350, 396, 400 and 402.

In 1970, Chevy was also offering its exclusive 454ci big block as an option on the Chevelle.

Available in sport coupe, sport sedan, four-door sedan, convertible, wagon and the El Camino “coupe utility” models, the 1970 Chevelles stood apart even from their previous model year siblings. This was thanks to sheet metal revisions that brought a more squared style to the muscle car s body. While base models were certainly sold by the hundreds, performance enthusiasts flocked to the SS options, available only on the Malibu sport coupes, Malibu convertibles, El Caminos and wagons. Those opting for the SS upgrade could choose from two SS options- the RPO Z25 SS option with a beefed up 402ci engine (marketed as a 396 still), or the RPO Z15 SS option with Chevy s 454ci big block. It was under the $503.45 RPO Z15 SS option that real performance connoisseurs could get the 454ci LS6 engine option.

What is known for sure, unlike exact power numbers, is that the LS6 option brought with it a 4.25-inch bore and a 4.0-inch stroke (same as the LS5 engine), solid valve lifters, a high-performance camshaft, 4-barrel Holley carburetor, and a 11.25:1 compression ratio. The performance on the LS6 was upped even further with specialty heads, in contrast with the LS5 s cast-iron heads borrowed from the other 396ci engine, using 1.88-inch exhaust valves and 2.19-inch intake valves.

In addition to the added power and torque that the LS6 brought, all Z15-upgraded SS models (including those with the 360hp Turbo-Jet 454ci V8) received a heavy-duty suspension system complete with IFS and a live rear axle with a 4-link setup, dual exhaust with chrome tips, power front disc brakes, wheel arch moldings, a chrome rear bumper with black inserts and a black grille. This was on top of the quad headlamps, squared off headlight bezels, rectangular taillights and two-part grille design that was standard SS equipment, from the 396ci variety up.

An open 12-bolt rearend was standard on the 454ci SS cars, as were 3.31 rearend gears, although a Posi-traction rearend with the same gears was a factory option and a Posi-traction with 4.10 rearend gears a dealer upgrade. In addition to the standard Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed closed-ratio manual transmission, 454 SS models could also be purchased with options like a heavy-duty clutch or a 3-speed automatic transmission.

For an even more performance oriented Chevelle SS, the $147.45 ZL2 package was also available in 1970 as an upgrade to SS models, which included a cowl induction hood with vacuum actuated hood opening and functional hood pins, as well as hood and rear deck striping. It is this package that gave the Chevelle SS models their famed racing stripes and aggressive hood design.

Whether you wanted your Chevelle SS 454 LS6 to pop or be more on the sleeper side, Chevy offered many factory options to make your muscle car s personality match your own! Of course, there was nothing really sleeper about the LS6 muscle car, but minor changes in appearance options made each and every car unique.

Factory standard Chevelle SS 454 LS6 models were reported to be able to accelerate from zero to 60mph in just over 6 seconds. Even today, they continue to break the 12 and 13-second quarter mile marks on tracks all across the country.

The LS6 engine option was intended to continue on as an option in 1971, but was dropped prior to being put in any 1971 Chevelle models. Reports state that the LS6 option was available on 1971 models but was canceled in May of that year, with just 14 LS6 engines having been produced for the Chevelle that never made it into factory cars. It is because of this that the 1970 LS6-equipped cars are that much more intriguing and collectible still to this day.

Documented as one of the greatest Chevelles ever produced, the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 model was the highest powered Chevelle manufactured in the model s lifetime, which ran from 1964 through 1977, and was the only GM car at the time to have ever topped the horsepower rating of the Corvette.

Even with up to a reported 4,475 LS6 models said to have left the factory floor for the 1970 model year (reported production numbers are inconsistent at best), LS6 Chevelles remain highly sought-after collectors items. Even those that are undocumented LS6 models have been known to sell for over $150,000 like the convertible sold this year at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction for $178,200. Others that sold at Barrett-Jackson auctions in 2013 ranged in price from $88,000 to $258,500. Even clones can go for big money, with some selling well within the $80,000 to $90,000 range at premiere events.

We can go on and on about what any particular car brings to the table compared to its competition, but when it comes to performance Chevys born in the muscle car era, the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 is definitely at the top of the influential list. Not only did it make history with its power numbers and available options, the car still remains an icon some 40 years later. And if that s not a key to deciding muscle cars you should know, we don t know what is!

Completely restored, this factory-correct 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 with numbers-matching engine and Muncie M22 transmission recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction for just under $150,000 without a reserve.
