TrueCar’s New CEO Says Top Goal to Be Mending Ties With Dealers

TrueCar Inc.’s new chief executive officer, Internet auto pioneer Chip Perry, said his top priority for the online vehicle pricing and data provider when he takes over for co-founder Scott Painter next month is to repair relations with car dealers.

The company has had contentious relations with dealers, which it charges $300 a car or a subscription fee to provide consumer leads that turn into sales in showrooms. In July, TrueCar and AutoNation Inc. the biggest U.S. new-car retailer, ended their agreement after AutoNation decided not to provide data TrueCar required to charge them for its services.

“Many dealers have had misgivings about working with TrueCar,” Perry said in an interview Monday after his hiring was announced. “My goal is going to be to earn their trust back by listening to them and building their feedback into our future plans.”

Perry, 62, is taking on the TrueCar job amid the company’s loss of two auto-industry veterans. Larry Dominique, a former Nissan Motor Co. executive, is stepping down as an executive vice president next month and John Krafcik, former head of Hyundai Motor Co.’s U.S. operations, left as president in September to lead Google Inc.’s self-driving car project. Painter will step down as CEO on Dec. 15 and will also resign as chairman and a director, after TrueCar said in August that he would keep the chairman post.

Perry was the first employee at AutoTrader.com in 1997 and built it into the world’s largest online vehicle marketplace with $1.5 billion in revenue, TrueCar said in a statement. He resigned from AutoTrader in 2013 after it withdrew a plan for an initial public offering. Since July of this year, he has been CEO of RentPath LLC, parent of ApartmentGuide.com and Rent.com.

“Scott did an amazing job getting TrueCar to this stage and for him to step aside does enable a clean, new chapter to open up,” Perry said. “To be able to signal a clean sheet of paper in terms of how we work with car dealers will be very helpful.”

TrueCar’s shares gained 5.7 percent to $7.83 at 3:42 p.m. New York time. The Santa Monica, California-based company’s stock slid 68 percent this year through Friday, including a 36 percent plunge on July 24 after cutting its 2015 sales forecast.

The company may need “some adjustments to the business model” to get its dealer relations and stock price turned around, Perry said. Six million people a month now visit TrueCar’s website and 10,000 dealers a day interact with the company’s marketing tools, he said.

“We’ll be able to come up with an action plan that works for car dealers and makes TrueCar a friendlier, stronger, better marketing partner,” Perry said.

He said he plans to begin visiting dealer showrooms in his first week on the job, with AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson one of the first he wants to meet.

“I’m hoping we can find a way to work together again,” Perry said. “It will be an important priority to build a bridge that AutoNation would be comfortable crossing.”

The SSAE 18 Reporting Standard SOC 1 SOC 2 SOC 3 Support and Guidance for SSAE18, SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 reporting standards

Some organizations have heard of SAS 70, SSAE 16. and soon to be SSAE 18. but, don t really know WHY they need to pay to have a bunch of auditors trounce through their company for a month or two during the year, especially right after their financial audit just finished.
The answer is simple: Many companies will not even think about using your company to perform services for them without a clean Type II Report in place.
Some benefits of having an SSAE 16 performed :

  • Ability to perform outsourcing services for Public Companies.
    • If performing financially significant duties for a Public Company, they are required to use a SSAE 16 qualified provider as it is the only way to give investors assurance over controls that are not performed by the Company in question.
  • Public and Private companies are more likely to trust your organization with their data.
    • If you were to trust a company with your data, you would want complete assurance it will be handled with the utmost care
  • A year round accessible knowledge source (your auditors).
    • As a service organization, large or small, you will always have questions regarding your business and having a set of auditors in place with access to a wide array of business knowledge, it will allow you to bounce your questions and concerns off of a group of trusted individuals.
  • A third party to review your controls and activities to ensure they are functioning appropriately, and give advice on how to improve upon them.
    • Sometimes your internal audit department is good, but, not always as stringent as they should be. This will help to serve as a check on their work, as well as your staff. Additionally, if there were any findings noted, your auditors are in a great position to give you some tricks and tips to improve to ensure everything functions well the following period.
  • Improving performance of the organization.
    • Just the knowledge that a review is being performed of an employee s work that can have far reaching consequences for the company as a whole. No more, Oh, I didn t realize that reviewing user access was THAT important to do this month, sorry , now, everyone knows that if it s not done, the success or failure of the organization could rest upon them.

Think of the SSAE 16 or SSAE-18 audit as an annual investment into your company, increasing potential new clients. productivity and accountability .

This tip is focused on designing controls that reflect the process being testing, if they don t, a headache of massive proportions will be created once testing begins.
What do you do to make sure you don t screw this up? Have as many meetings as it takes to get it right.
What you need to do is sit down with the auditors, the department lead, the main employees responsible for performing the process, and anyone else whom could either play a role in testing or modifying the control in the future. Once that is done, Management should discuss what they determined the control to be and how it should operate, that is then reviewed by the auditors, and then the employees performing the tasks should be reconsulted to verify that the control still reflects their process accurately.
Many times people try to speed this process up and half-ass it, leaving many open items which upon testing could easily blow up into a huge problem. When the control isn t 100% agreed upon prior to testing and a deviation is noted, it s a tough call between failing the control and the ability to adjust it to accurately reflect the process. The problem is modifying a control after testing has begun is not proper and needs to be avoided at all costs.
Locking the controls locked down early on could save weeks in wrapping up your new SSAE 16 Report.
We have seen issues like this cause delays in issuing of the report to the client and running additional fees, since adjusting controls isn t free. Coming from the perspective of the auditor, we can let you know the pitfalls, consequences and how to best navigate the audit process. If you have any comments or questions please leave them below!

A SOC 1 Report (System and Organization Controls Report ) is a report on Controls at a Service Organization which are relevant to user entities’ internal control over financial reporting. The SOC1 Report is what you would have previously considered to be the standard SAS70, complete with a Type I and Type II reports, but falls under the SSAE 16 guidance (and soon to be SSAE 18 ).

Please see the following articles discussing the SSAE 16 guidance and additional information related to the SOC 1 (Type I and Type II) Reports:

In addition to the SOC 1 report which is restricted to controls relevant to an audit of a user entity’s financial statements, the SOC 2 and SOC 3 reports have been created to address controls relevant to operations and compliance and will be discussed in further detail in the future.

Please see the SOC 1 Reporting Guide page for additional information.

SSAE 16 is an enhancement to the current standard for Reporting on Controls at a Service Organization, the SAS70. The changes made to the standard will bring your company, and the rest of the companies in the US, up to date with new international service organization reporting standards, the ISAE 3402. The adjustments made from SAS 70 to SSAE 16 will help you and your counterparts in the US compete on an international level; allowing companies around the world to give you their business with complete confidence .

SSAE16 is now effective as of June 15, 2011, and if you have not made the necessary adjustments required, now is the time to find a quality provider to discuss the proper steps. All organizations are now required to issue their Service Auditor Reports under the SSAE 16 standards in an SOC 1 Report.

The soon to be effective, SSAE-18. is expected to follow a similar reporting structure to the SSAE-16 within a SOC 1 report.

Who Needs an SSAE 16 (SOC 1 ) Audit?

If your Company (the Service Organization ) performs outsourced services that affect the financial statements of another Company (the User Organization ), you will more than likely be asked to provide an SSAE16 Type II Report, especially if the User Organization is publicly traded.
Some example industries include:

  • Payroll Processing
  • Loan Servicing
  • Data Center /Co-Location/Network Monitoring Services
  • Software as a Service (SaaS )
  • Medical Claims Processors

What you Need to Know:

Before starting the SSAE 16 process, there are a number of considerations one must take into account that can save considerable time, effort, and money in the long run. Use the following items as a mini checklist for yourself:

  • Does my Company need an SSAE16, or, are we doing it just because someone asked?
  • Reports on the low end can run at least $15,000 a year, will the business lost be less of a burden than the cost of the report itself?
  • Does your company have defined Business Process and IT controls in place, or, will you need assistance developing and implementing them (readiness assessment)?
  • Have you determined the controls in place which affect the outsourced services being provided?
  • Have key stakeholders been defined and included in discussions?

There are many other issues to consider before engaging a CPA firm to help with your SSAE 16, for a more detailed checklist please see The SSAE 16 Checklist

You may have heard SSAE-18 is on the horizon for reports issued as of May 1, 2017. There are some important updates discussed in here: SSAE-18 An Update to SSAE-16 .

As the standard is formalized and the date approaches we will continue to provide more information to help you prepare for these changes.

How To Become a Substance Abuse Counselor: Build These Traits

In Jacquelyn Small’s book Becoming Naturally Therapeutic you can find details on what traits a naturally therapeutic person should have. If you have made the decision to become a substance abuse counselor, it may be helpful to take a personal inventory and see if you exhibit these traits:

  • Empathy
  • Genuineness

  • Self-disclosure
  • Warmth
  • Immediacy
  • Concreteness
  • Confrontation
  • Potency
  • Self-actualization

  • Why am I doing this?

  • Just what is my role in all of this?

Assessing your reasons for wanting to become a substance abuse counselor will help you get a clearer idea of where you want to be. After you’ve assessed your personal goals, you’ll need to look into your educational goals. Do you want to further your degree? Just get a job with the minimal amount of education? The Things You Should Know If You – re Interested in Becoming a Psychiatrist #what #degree #do #you #need #to #be #a #psychiatrist

The Things You Should Know If You’re Interested in Becoming a Psychiatrist

A psychiatrist, similar to a psychologist, deals with mental disorders and treating them. However, they have a distinct difference — psychiatrists are more affiliated with medicine. That means they focus more on studying, diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental disorders from a medical standpoint, rather than studying the patient and their behavior due to the disorder. So before you take a step into the world of a psychiatrist, you should make sure it is really what you want to do.

Will I like Psychiatry?

Are you able to listen to other people speaking, genuinely being able to take all the information given to you and respond appropriately? If your answer is no, psychiatry probably isn’t right for you. But if you believe you are capable to listening to a patient for up to an hour at a time without being judgmental, you may have what it takes to be a psychiatrist. And if you enjoy doing it, then that is even better. Here are some questions to ask yourself before getting started in psychiatry:

• Do you like being in one on one situations rather than being in a group?
• Do you like letting other people lead conversations?
• Can you maintain composure under stress or duress?
• Do you like having people place their trust in you?
• Are you a patient person? If not, you may find being a psychiatrist to be one of the harder jobs you will face.
• Are you interested in the human mind and the various affects medication has in restoring or repairing it to its optimum form?
• Are you interested in learning more about mental disorders such as schizophrenia or PTSD?
• Are you good at memorizing? Do you like to diagnose problems?

These are some of the things to keep in mind before you decide to go into psychiatry. And while these introspective questions may not be extensive, they are some key indicators in telling whether you will be interested in the field before you jump right into it.

What does it take to become a Psychiatrist?

The road to becoming a licensed psychiatrist is long one, but if you love the field and want to help people with mental ailments, it is well worth the time and effort needed. First off, you must have your bachelor’s degree. Some students choose to major in psychology, but there are many other social sciences or life sciences that will be equally useful. You could do sociology or health science if you are more interested in the “people” aspect, or you can go into physiology or biology if you are into the medical aspect. However, no matter which one you choose, it is important to get some pre-med experience throughout your journey. Once you are prepared, you can take your MCATs in order to apply for medical school once you obtain your undergraduate degree.

Upon entering medical school, you can expect to find a similar environment from your undergraduate experience – basically just taking science classes in order to expand your knowledge in the field of medicine. However, after two years, you can expect to start shadowing doctors, psychiatrists, or other health care professionals in order to finish your medical school training. This second part of medical school is called rotations. All in all, you can expect medical school to last four years. Before graduating, you will need to apply for residency in some psychiatric facility in order to finalize your psychiatrist licensing.

Your residency will take you an extra four years but will develop your skills using on-the-job training. You will work with mentors and other residents in rotations in order to get hands on experience in all fields of psychiatry, including research and diagnosis. You will also receive clinical training in order to further expand your knowledge of psychiatric medical treatments. Overall, your time in your residency should be a rewarding and enriching experience, if you take it in the right place. Choosing the perfect place to do your residency is another topic of its own, and should be thoroughly researched before committing to one.

Finally, after you go through your undergraduate program, medical school, and residency, you must pass your state’s board exam in order to be licensed. From there you can become certified with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and get started with helping people get their lives in order.

What is being a psychiatrist like at medical center?

If you want to be a psychiatrist at a private practice, then your days are very much like that of a psychologist or a private doctor — it will be a lot of one-on-one interaction with your clients and you will go home in the afternoon. But if you want to practice psychiatry at a medical center or hospital, here is what you should expect:

As a psychiatrist at a medical center or hospital, you can expect to start your days at any given time depending on your rotation. On your shifts, you will have your interns going over the events of the previous shift to catch you up (this is something you should be familiar with my now since you went through your residency). From there, you pick and choose between all the patients, deciding which ones need to stay and get inpatient care, and which ones just need to go home with a prescription. Some may just need a follow up with a different specialist, such as a neurologist.

Your days will be filled with listening to the interpretations of patient stories through the mouths of your interns – in some cases you will listen to the patients if the interns have trouble finding a trigger for a psychiatric break, but know there is something wrong with the patient. During this time, you will also be responsible for training the interns by questioning everything they do, and explaining anything that you do.

If you are interested in becoming a psychiatrist, you now have all the information you need in order to reach your goals. While it may take a long time, it may be worth it if you like to help others improve their lives by conquering their mental demons. As a psychiatrist you will be learning, studying, diagnosing, and treating mental disorders from a medical standpoint in order to enrich the lives of your patients. If that sounds like you, then psychiatry is your calling.

What Are the Requirements to Be a Certified Addiction Counselor?

Certification requirements for addiction counselors differ between certifying bodies, but most will require a certain amount of education and experience before passing an exam. Keep reading to learn more about education, experience and certification requirements in this field. Schools offering Addiction Counseling degrees can also be found in these popular choices.

Career Overview

As a certified addiction counselor, you’ll assist all types of people in handling their addictions, often through individual counseling, group sessions, and family involvement. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS, www.bls.gov ), prospective addiction counselors must meet detailed licensing, education, and experience requirements that vary by state. For example, some states may only require that substance abuse or addiction counselors hold a high school diploma and complete a state-approved exam, while others may require completion of a master’s program, 2,000-4,000 hours of clinical practice and an exam.

Certifications and Requirements

Addiction counselors usually obtain certification voluntarily, rather than by state mandate. There are several organizations that offer addiction counseling certifications, with each one having its own set of requirements. Remember that once you earn a certification, you’ll probably have to maintain your status by fulfilling continuing education or reexamination requirements.

National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC)

The National Certified Addiction Counselor, Level I; National Certified Addiction Counselor, Level II; and Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) are certification options offered by NAADAC. To become certified, you’ll have to pay a certification fee and pass a written exam. You’ll also have to meet specific licensing, training, and education requirements that vary by level. For example, to become a MAC, you’ll need to hold a master’s degree, provide proof of three years of experience in the field, and be licensed as a counselor or other kind of healing arts practitioner in your state.

National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)

You can become a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through NBCC by holding a master’s degree, providing proof of study in predetermined areas, passing the National Counselor Exam, and meeting a minimum of 3,000 hours of experience, 100 of which must be supervised. Once you’ve obtained the NCC designation, you are eligible to earn the Master Addictions Counselor credential, which has similar requirements.

American Academy of Health Care Providers in the Addictive Disorders

The American Academy offers a Certified Addiction Specialist certification. You become eligible for this certification by providing proof of a combination of education and experience, which varies depending on the level of education you’ve completed; submitting at least three professional recommendations; and passing the certification exam.

Licensure

Although certification is typically optional, you may need to be licensed to work as an addiction counselor in your state. The addiction counseling licensing requirements of the state in which you’ll work may be different from the requirements that govern other types of counselors. For more information, you’re encouraged to contact your state’s licensing board for addiction or substance abuse counselors.

Shares of TrueCar Inc. ( TRUE – Snapshot Report ) jumped more than 14% yesterday, a day after changes at the top leadership position were announced. On Nov 23, the company announced that Chip Perry, the former chief executive of AutoTrader.com, will be its new President and CEO, effective Dec 15.

Perry boasts wide experience in online shopping sites having served as the CEO of AutoTrader.com, a pioneering online car-classifieds site, from its inception in 1997 to 2013. Under his leadership, the start-up grew to generate annual revenue of more than $1.5 billion with 3,500 employees, 20,000 dealer customers and 16 million monthly unique visitors.

Since July this year, Perry has been serving as the President and CEO of RentPath LLC, the parent company of ApartmentGuide.com and Rent.com.

Perry will replace co-founder and current Chairman and CEO Scott Painter who will step down by the end of 2015.

Painter decided to hand in his papers in view of the recurring losses and the deteriorating image of the company due to dealer dissatisfaction. The situation worsened when it lost one of its biggest clients and America s largest auto retailer, AutoNation Inc. ( AN – Analyst Report ), following a dispute over sharing consumer transaction data.

AutoNation pulled out 279 stores from TrueCar s network. This led the online car-shopping portal to announce that its second-quarter 2015 earnings will miss estimates by a wide margin.

It should also be noted that the company s president, John Krafcik, left in September to lead Alphabet Inc. s ( GOOGL – Analyst Report ) self-driving car project. Moreover, the current vice president Larry Dominique plans to resign next month. The departure of these well-regarded auto industry personalities will be a massive loss for TrueCar.

Rising dealer dissatisfaction and reporting loss for the past four quarters can be attributed to poor execution by the top management. Therefore, TrueCar needed some leadership changes.

Investors were encouraged by Perry s appointment as the new CEO as well as his positive remarks and approach during an interview post the announcement.

During the interview, Perry said, Many dealers have had misgivings about working with TrueCar. My goal is going to be to earn their trust back by listening to them and building their feedback into our future plans.

He also praised Scott saying Scott did an amazing job getting TrueCar to this stage and for him to step aside does enable a clean, new chapter to open up. To be able to signal a clean sheet of paper in terms of how we work with car dealers will be very helpful.

Perry outlined his plans to meet dealers in the first week after taking office, especially AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson. I am hoping we can find a way to work together again. It will be an important priority to build a bridge that AutoNation would be comfortable crossing , he concluded.

We hope that Perry s vast experience will help TrueCar gain its lost image and win back the dealers trust. However, it will take some time, in our opinion.

Currently, TrueCar carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). A better-ranked stock in the broader technology sector is MeetMe Inc. ( MEET – Snapshot Report ) sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
