INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOWS

Toronto Auto Show

A s an offically endorsed international auto show since 2004, the Candian International Auto Show has a lot to live up to when comparing it to the larger North American counterparts (Detroit, New York, Chicago, and LA). Held annually in Toronto, Ontario at the Rogers Centre and Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Canadian automobile exhibition is a more intimate event with just under three hundred thousand visitors in 2007. With over a thousand vehicles on display and many automakers introducing new models to the Canadian market at this show, the Toronto auto show is a popular event which draws both national and international visitors every year.

The 2008 exhibition will be held from February 15 through to February 24 and will feature current models, concept cars, classic cars, sport compacts and everything in between to bring an integrated and comprehensive automotive experience for all who attend this excitiing event.

With many international auto manufacturers represented at this show, the diversity in products and nameplates is as interesting as any other international auto exhibition. Car andmotor enthusiasts hoping to get up and personal with the luxury brands like Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maybach and Rolls Royce will not be disappointed. The show will also appeal to those with more modest tastes that are looking for candidates for their next daily driver purchase, with makes like Toyota, Honda, Ford, and others having displays at the Canadian International Auto show.

Perhaps not the spectacle of the other shows on teh international auto exhibition circuit the Canadian international auto show held every year in Toronto will satisfy most car aficionados.

Get the Best Priced Toyota Parts

Toyota Body Parts

Fender-benders aren’t necessarily a tragedy, but they can certainly be a hassle. Among other issues is the expense of repairs – and with deductibles and the fact that your insurer is probably going to raise your premiums, instead of filing a claim, a lot of people find it cheaper and easier to simply log on to PartsGeek.com, where they can buy replacement Toyota auto body parts at discounts of up to 80%.

The fact is that nowadays, most Toyota body parts – whether side panel, a door, a Toyota fender, trunk lid or hood or anything else – is cheaper and easier to replace than to repair. And they’re really cheaper to replace when you buy them through PartsGeek.com!

Most people understand that body and fender repairs these days aren’t particularly cheap. Even something as seemingly simple as Toyota bumpers can easily cost you three figures. Toyota interior parts like door handles and shift knobs can really add up as well. Unfortunately, your local Toyota dealer or auto parts outlet has a whole lot of overhead that he needs to cover – so most of the time, he won’t be able to afford to offer any real deals on the Toyota parts you need. Instead, in order to cover the costs of maintaining his real world operation with all its operating expenses (lease payments, payroll, taxes, utilities and more), he has to pass those costs on to you in the form of higher prices.

On the other hand, PartsGeek.com has been selling Toyota parts to a nationwide clientele over the World Wide Web since 2002. Being an Internet-based retail operation, we are spared most of the overhead expenses that brick-and-mortar retailers have to deal with. This means real savings for us, which we are able to pass on to you in the form of discounts of up to 80% on the Toyota auto body parts you need. From Toyota bumpers to Toyota fenders, hoods and other components, we’re confident that you will not find a better deal anywhere when it comes to body part replacements.

The other thing to know about PartsGeek.com is that we offer a superior level of customer service. First of all, you won’t have to guess when ordering parts from our online inventory, because it’s automatically updated as parts come and go. If you see it, that means we really have it – and we ship most orders within 24 hours.

You also have several shipping options. There is our standard delivery as well as overnight and second-day for those times when something is needed ASAP. At PartsGeek.com, you pay only actual shipping charges – you’re not going to get stuck paying extra for “handling fees” just so we can make an extra buck.

All of our parts are covered by a one-year warranty. If you ever have a problem with any purchase from PartsGeek, call our U.S.-based customer service between 9AM and 6PM EST department for quick, courteous and efficient resolution.

The Top 15 Cheapest New Cars of 2011

Update: I’ve also put together a list of this year’s cheapest new cars. in addition to 2014. 2013. and 2012. What follows is for the 2011 model year.

Thinking of buying a new car? If you re frugal, the thought of doing some research to find the cheapest new car has probably crossed your mind. Good news. I did the dirty work to find the least expensive new vehicles of 2011.

My 2010 cheapest cars report covered the top 10 low-cost vehicles. This year, I bumped it to 15, because a few of my favorites didn t quite make the top 10. ALL of the vehicles you will find on the list have automatic transmission. I don t drive a stick myself, and I m sure many of you don t either. However, if you are interested in manual trans, all of these vehicles have a version, and they generally run about $1,000 less than the MSRP s I quoted.

The New Car Caveat

Before we get started, I ll once again give the caveat that I am not an advocate of buying new cars, however, I do believe that if you buy a cheap new car and drive it into the ground, there is a good chance that it could comparatively save you money versus buying used. Want the best of both worlds? The 3-year resale value of these vehicles is usually around 55-60% and the 5-year resale value is often around 40%.

You ll notice I also listed dealership costs, which should give you an idea of how much room you have to haggle. The Honda Civic and Hyundai Accent should have a lot of wiggle room, with over $2,000 in difference between dealer cost and MSRP. The Mazda 2 and Kia Rio, on the other hand, are actually both priced below dealer cost, making them loss leaders for the dealership. Wiggle room will be tight.

Current incentives were not factored into the prices, and a few models actually did have up to $1,000 cash back incentives at the moment.

Fuel, Maintenance, Insurance Costs on Cheap Cars

Other than the price itself, cheap cars tend to have much lower total ownership costs than their more expensive brethren. Small and cheap tend to go hand-in-hand, and so do small and fuel efficient. Most of the vehicles on this list have an average EPA estimated MPG of over 30. The one year fuel cost estimates were based on 45% highway driving, 55% city driving, 15,000 annual miles, and $3.07 for a gallon of regular gasoline (source: fueleconomy.gov).

Maintenance costs are usually cheaper as well. The goal of auto manufacturers is to produce these vehicles as inexpensively as possible. Therefore, their parts are cheap. And so are their replacement parts. And because these vehicles tend to be popular, their parts are easy to find, reducing scarcity and lowering prices.

Insurance costs on these cars are usually lower as well because insurance costs are derived from the market value of the vehicle. The lower the cost of vehicle, generally, the lower the cost of insurance for it.

Once Again, Foreign Automakers Dominate the List of Cheapest Vehicles

All but two of the vehicles to make this year s list were from foreign automakers. The two that did? The underwhelming Chevy Aveo and the brand new Ford Fiesta. Disappointing, but I have no doubts that you ll see U.S. automakers continue to make the shift to smaller, cheaper cars in the very near future.

My Picks for the Best Cheapest Car of 2011

It s a toss-up. I m a huge fan of functionality, so hatchbacks and utility are big wins in my book. Also, if I m going to buy a new vehicle, it s not going to be ugly. I m going to go with the Fiesta. It s stylish, and excluding the only golf cart to make the list (ForTwo), the most fuel efficient. The hatchback also gives it functionality. The Soul and Fit come in a close second.

Base Automatic Transmission model: Scion XB 2.4L

Consumer Complaints Reviews

Most recently, I bought two batteries for my truck. The batteries are dead in just one year. My employee took the truck to AutoZone to swap the batteries under warranty. They insisted on having a phone number. I said “you acknowledge it’s your battery, right? and you see the date on the batteries are just from a year ago right?” He said it didn’t matter and he needed the phone number. I wasn’t there so I was rattling off all of the phone numbers we have for the store, my cell, my home, our pseudo number, etc. none of them was coming up. Before my employee left, but was in the parking lot, he said, “was Tim working for you then?” so he went back in and tried an old employee’s phone number. Still no luck. So they basically say “** you, we know it’s our bad battery but if you can’t come up with a receipt or phone number, we won’t honor it.”

In a separate incident several years ago my friend and I were working on his brakes. He took his rotors in to have them turned and we went to eat lunch. When we got back an hour later, they hadn’t done and it and said “we can’t turn them because they’re too thin.” I asked him “what’s the specs? let me see how you measured it.” He gets the micrometer out and shows me the thickness. I said, “that’s not how you read that thing.” He didn’t know he was talking to two engineers. So either he was totally incompetent or he was scamming everyone. It’s possibly a company policy, but he sure was confident in his scam. And he was completely embarrassed when I showed him how to read the micrometer. We took the rotors to Oreilly down the road.

Consumer Complaints Reviews

Horrible customer service. I recently rented from National Rental car at Dawson Creek Airport located in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. My car rental was for 2 days at $39.00 per day and after taxes and fees the total came to roughly $139.00. I later found that they had charged me $605 for the rental. After calling the Dawson Creek location, the lady referred me to Danny in Grand Prairie, who apparently deals with price discrepancy for the Dawson Creek location. I then learned from him that the reservation didn’t include mileage. I was very shocked that this reservation didn’t include mileage.

I have rented over 250 cars over the past 10 years and have never once been charged mileage. This was entirely my fault for not reading the rental agreement. My beef is with the customer service rep Danny. After pleading my case that yes the rental agreement does say $1.00 per Kilometer but it isn’t reasonable to charge $600 for a two day rental. I fully understand that it is my responsibility to read the rental agreement fully but I also feel like this is an honest mistake. Danny was not willing to budge or acknowledge that this could happen to anyone. I was very upset that he wouldn’t even agree that $1.00 per Kilometer is excessive and agree that no other rental car company charges per Kilometer.

After cursing, which I shouldn’t have done, I told him I would find all social media outlets possible and tell my experience and tell people to watch out for the no free mileage. After we spoke, Danny wrote me an email threatening me and my business that if I said anything on social media he would do the same to me and my business. This is after we got off the phone with him. He went out of his way to send me this email:

“Jason, attached is the revised invoice. In regards to your comments on the phone about slander on social media, do what you feel you need to do. We are not the ones that neglected to pay close attention to the rates. I have googled the company you work for. Should I hear about any slander etc. about our company, I am sure they would love to hear about your behavior and telephone conversations. Have a great day!”

Have a great day. Is that not antagonistic? Is this not threatening? I have never written a comment about customer service in my life and I have had some rough experiences, especially with air travel. I have never written a comment. Danny changed this as he was extremely rude, antagonistic repeatedly calling me “Buddy,” and won’t budge on at least giving some of my money back. Regardless, watch out for all Northern British Columbia and Northern Alberta non-corporately run National Car Rental locations.

Express Credit Auto

By lerin.tilleyyy488 – 11/07/2014

Rating: 1 / 5 1

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA — In September 2013, I had a car repossessed due to bad choices on my part. Knowing full and well I couldn’t finance another car through a reputable source, I went to ECA and purchased a 2007 Toyota Yaris for $9,996.00. My payment was $300.00 a month ($149.00/biweekly), and I was told that the reason the car was so high in price was due to the warranty.

After having my car for less than 30 days, the blower in the AC/heat went out. The warranty department fixed it for free, but dealing with the warranty department was a huge pain. You have to drop off your vehicle and be without a car for at least a day, which is terrible if you only have one car in the family. I had belt problems that always squealed when the weather was cool or moist, and I took it to ECA Warranty three separate times to have it fixed. I also had a mechanism in the fuel system leave me stranded on the side of the road once, and had to pay the $100.00 deductible to have it fixed through their warranty.

They put a GPS tracker in the vehicle, along with a kill switch. I was dedicated to never being behind on my car payments, so they were always withdrawn the same day I got paid so the money would always be there. One day, I stepped out of work to go to lunch and my car was dead. Originally I thought it was the battery, but I called ECA anyway to see if it had been shut off on their end. When I talked to her, I asked if, for some reason, my last payment hadn’t gone through (even though it showed up on my bank statement) and she said, “Yeah, but we just had a glitch so it shut down your car.”

I asked why I hadn’t been notified earlier about the glitch, and she said, “Well, you know now.” So basically, even though I’d made every payment and never been at all late, my car was deactivated. I called back later and asked to speak to the manager, and I was rebuffed and told that I had no reason to complain because my car was back on.

I talked to my bank and they agreed to refinance my auto loan at a much lower rate (I went from 23% to 8.49, which is wonderful for someone with a discharged Ch. 7). I called and asked for a payout, which was faxed to me. I was sick that week, so I never made it to the bank and another car payment went through. The next week, I called again requesting an updated 10 day payout. He started to verbally tell me the payout, and when I asked for a written payout, he rudely refused. I said, “I have a payout that was faxed to me two weeks ago, I don’t understand why I can’t get an updated payout,” and he said, “Whoever sent you that shouldn’t have, I can’t send you another one.”

I asked how I was supposed to give my bank the information when they needed it in written form, and he said, “Uh, you just use the old one?” in a very condescending manner. I told him the old one was no longer accurate in terms of my balance, and he said that wasn’t his problem. So I got frustrated and hung up. He called me back shortly and told me that even though it wasn’t his problem, he would email me my payout “just this once”. Finally, I got the stupid thing in writing.

Today, I called their finance office to see about dropping off the check for the full amount. They told me to drop it off at the branch from which I bought the car. My loan manager at my bank then did so at 11:30 a.m. I called ECA at 1:00 p.m. to make sure the check had been received, and was told that the check was supposed to be dropped off at their headquarters, which is across town.

No one told me this information before that phone call. I have a car payment scheduled to be auto withdrawn this Saturday, and I was told it would take 3 days to cancel the auto withdrawal feature. I asked them if I would receive a refund for the $149.00, since that payment would technically be an overpayment once the bank’s check is processed, and she said, “Maybe.”

Overall, I knew what I was getting into when buying a car from them. They Target a very shady demographic of people that are bad with money, so it makes sense to overcharge so they aren’t losing money. That being said, I had a naive thought that they would treat me with respect because I pay my bill on time, I keep insurance on my car, and I give them no issues. Never have I been late on a payment, never have I let my insurance lapse, and never have I done anything to warrant being treated with a lack of respect.

Despite all of this, I still got to experience having my car deactivated due to a “glitch”. Imagine trying your hardest to pay all your bills on time and be a perfect consumer and being punished by your car not turning on. I was at work, my car wouldn’t start, and I was horrified people would think it was because I was irresponsible. There is no reason for ECA to have such terrible customer service. There is no reason why people that are following the rules should be made to feel so small and humiliated.

If you are in the terrible position of buying a car from them, hear me now: finance with them, then try your hardest to get the loan refinanced somewhere else. They will treat you like crap once they realize you won’t be giving them that 18-23% anymore, but you will be free.

Top 10 Cheapest Used Cars to Insure

Ten vehicles were compared for insurance premium costs. Many factors went into the creation of the Cheapest Cars to Insure list. However, if you consider the list, you ll realize most of the vehicles are small to mid-sized cars. These are the most loved by US insurance companies.

In order to compare vehicle insurance costs, we went to the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) for accurate research material. For their information the HLDI considers insurance coverage in six different areas. These include property damage liability, comprehensive personal injury protection, medical payment, collision, and bodily injury. Insurance companies, of course, do look at other elements when they determine what your vehicle insurance costs will be. Some of the other factors that they consider include, your driving record, your area of residence, and the amount of miles driven each year, age, gender and your credit history can all have an impact.

1. Cheapest Used Car to Insure: Buick Lucerne

When it came to evaluating insurance costs, the 2008 Buick Lucerne came out on top. It s quite the norm for the larger more boring cars to have lower insurance premiums. For a good reason they aren t race cars, they don t have extra parts that are incredibly expensive to replace, and they aren t souped up performance cars that are going to hit the insurance companies hard if the vehicle is in an accident.

Top 10 Car Loan Payment Calculators

If you are never on financial resource sites, this top 10 list of car loan payment calculators should be very helpful.

Standard information you will need to know to calculate your car loan payment :

  • Auto loan amount
  • Length of the loan
  • Interest Rate
  • Start date of the loan
  1. OnlineLoanCalculator.org – This is a standalone site which offers the cleanest interface. It allows you to factor in your current vehicle’s trade-in value and the new vehicle s sales tax. This site has you enter the length of the loan in years instead of months. It shows an annual amortization schedule which is handy to determine what you will still owe year after year. The total amount you pay for the vehicle over the term of the loan is also displayed. Beware of a couple of well integrated advertisements close to calculator.
  1. Bankrate.com – Probably one of the most popular financial calculators is Bankrate’s. It lets you figure in extra payments, shows the payoff date, and an amortization schedule. The extra payment feature is nice because it shows how just a little extra money each month can really cut the length of your loan.
  2. Cars.com – If you have not gotten hard numbers from a car salesman Cars.com has a helpful calculator. It lets you enter in your vehicle s trade-in value and sales tax separately. You can subtract your trade in value from the cost of your new vehicle and add in sales tax to calculate the amount you are financing or list them separately, it is up to you.

Car Battery Charger Review

Car Battery Chargers: What to Look For

Not all car battery chargers offer the same functions, compatibility or charging rates. Look for a unit that can handle your battery type and allows you to safely charge your battery in the time frame you desire. If you don’t want to worry about plugging in the charger, look for a battery booster or jump-starter you can take with you on the road. You may need a charger that can handle lower-voltage batteries commonly used in riding lawn mowers or ATVs. Use our criteria below to find the best car battery charger to suit your needs.

Many battery boosters include helpful battery and alternator testing functions, as well as cooling fans to reduce strain from too much heat. Look for a charger with solid cold-cranking amps, at least 100 amps. A good CCA rating can get your battery going quicker when you jump-start your vehicle. Some battery boosters can function as a short-term power supply and include an LED work light and power outlets you can plug other devices into, such as cell phones, tablets or power tools.

They showed up with a packed truck, resulting in items (recliner, nightstand, boxes) being taken off the truck, and transported by my wife and I, with no reduction in price. The drivers lost the slip with my credit card information on it, and I was contacted by Mr. ** who offered no apology, only a refund of the deposit, because he considered a refund of the $40 of the card transaction sufficient for my troubles.

Top Online Business Ideas: Automobile Spare Parts

slide 1 of 7

Product

An automobile spare parts business, as the name suggests involves selling spares and accessories to vehicle owners. Not all vehicle owners have the time or inclination to travel all the way to the dealer to purchase spares, and the dealer themselves would prefer making fresh vehicle sales rather than earn peanuts selling spares. This raises the scope for an automobile spare parts business, and an online venture, where the customer can order to specifications and ensure the product reaches home rather than search for that particular spare in different shops is a good business idea.

One good idea is to concentrate on the most popular and fast-moving items, but avoiding parts that cutthroat competition has caused a reduction to profit margins to a bare minimum. Undertake extensive research, and talk to people in the automobile parts industry. Some exposure in the automobile parts industry, even as a trainee in a spare parts shop for a few weeks, helps in a big way.

Tips to Sell Your Car Fast – The Car Connection

Tips to Sell Your Car Fast

Eventually, and for any of many reasons, you will probably need to sell your car fast. You might sacrifice some money in exchange for a fast sale, but such is the price of quick results. Whatever the circumstances, we have some tips to help get that car out of your driveway.

Get yourself set. You can t sell it if you can t show it. Be available for people to see the car, and if you can t always do it, ask a friend or family member to jump in. Make sure you check local regulations regarding the sale of a car so you don t encounter problems after the deal is done. Have the title in hand, as well as any paperwork confirming the loan payoff if applicable.

Figure out your price. Compare your car honestly with others like it for sale near you. Look up the private party value online–not to be confused with the retail price values you d expect at a dealer. Set a price that will make your car stand out from the others, and even still, be open to the idea that people will still try to knock down the price regardless.

Get the car ready. When you re trying to sell fast, extensive detailing might not be in the cards. Give it a good wash and wax at least, and give the interior a good once-over. If you don t have time or funds to correct all maintenance or mechanical bugs, at least list the items.

Put it out there. Take some good photos outside and in, and post them with your ad. Free classifieds are the go-to websites for fast sales, but don t rule out paid sites like eBay. Have a For Sale sign in the window whenever the car is parked, even at work or while shopping. A Facebook post, Tweet or YouTube video might net a buyer who wouldn t have seen your car for sale elsewhere. Asking friends to spread the word can also work well.

Roll with it. Be flexible and creative, since motivation doesn t have to mean desperation. Consider partial trades if your situation allows it. Don t get offended when someone inevitably throws out a ridiculous offer. Watch out for offers to pay in installments or by personal check as these are often red flags for problems. Just don t get so caught up that you forget to check an interested person s license and ride along for the test drive.

Try a dealer. Local dealers are often on the lookout for fresh inventory, and now online and national dealers are doing it, too. You might be offered a price in the neighborhood of trade-in value, but that s the reality of sacrificing dollars for the convenience of a fast sale.

Consider donation. Here is a different kind of compromise. You get rid of the car quickly and can get a decent figure for it, but that figure will appear when you file your income tax return. If you simply need the extra space fast and can wait on the cash, you can skip the hassle of selling and donate your car to charity as a tax-deductible contribution.

Corvette Z06

The Corvette has been many things since it hit the market in 1953 – boulevard cruiser, V-8 phallic symbol, teenage fantasy, etc. Never mind all that. The seventh-generation Corvette (known as the C7) is brilliant, and Z06 is its |ultimate iteration. The ZO6 uses the same hydro-formed aluminum chassis as the standard C7, but adds bigger brakes, track-worthy suspension, and a low-profile supercharger that pushed the V-8 up to 650 horsepower. The Z06 competes with Porsches and Ferraris for a fraction of the price.

Acura NSX

This is the production version of the NSX show car, which first surfaced in 2012. The NSX resurrects a legendary sports car brand, but with a modern twist. Like the first NSX, which debuted in 1990, the new car has its engine in the middle. But that’s where the resemblance ends: beneath the 2015 car’s curvaceous skin is a high-tech hybrid power train that includes an internal combustion V-6 and three electric motors.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

The affordable, mid-engine sports car has been an oxymoron for some time now. The Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Huracan may be beautiful, but they cost as much as a decent house. Ditto for the McLaren 12C and P1. Even the Porsche Cayman and Lotus Evora can run to more than $100,000. But now there’s the Alfa 4C – it starts at $61,995. The 4C brings the traditional benefits of the mid-engine layout (optimized weight distribution and quick-turning response) in a compact, high-tech package. The chassis features a carbon central tub with bolt-on aluminum sub-frames. It’s an Italian exotic, but in a less expensive package.

The trouble with car title loans is NOT people losing their cars

A title loan store in Nashville, Tenn. (Joe Howell/Vanderbilt)

The standard knock against car title loans is a toothless assertion that the transaction leads to people losing their cars and then their jobs because they have no transportation to get to work, say three researchers led by Vanderbilt’s Paige Marta Skiba.

“Repossession affects few borrowers, and our evidence indicates that most borrowers will not lose their only way to work because of repossession,” said Skiba, associate professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School. “Thus, prohibitions on title loans based on the premise that borrowers are frequently losing their vehicles are misguided.”

Title loans are high-cost, short-term small loans secured by a vehicle that the borrower usually owns outright. Such loans, along with payday loans, are used by many people who are shut out from the mainstream banking system. The most common term for title loans is one month, and the interest rate is usually around 300 percent – when expressed as an annual percentage rate.

If the borrower defaults on the loan, the lender can repossess the borrower’s vehicle.

Skiba, Vanderbilt economics Ph.D. student Kathryn Fritzdixon and Jim Hawkins, assistant professor of law at the University of Houston Law Center, surveyed 400 title loan customers in three states (Georgia, Idaho and Texas) in partnership with a title lending firm in November and December 2012. The three states have distinct approaches to regulating title loans, but enough similarities to allow meaningful comparisons.

Their study, Dude, Where’s My Car Title. The Law, Behavior and Economics of Title Lending Markets. can be read at http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2224247. It will be published this year in the University of Illinois Law Review.

Paige Marta Skiba (Vanderbilt Law School)

The study showed that less than 10 percent of vehicles involved in title loans ended up being repossessed. Moreover, less than 15 percent of borrowers said they had no other way to get to work if their car were repossessed.

“While not insignificant, this small percentage suggests that the dire consequences that critics predict are unlikely to occur for the vast majority of title borrowers,” Skiba said. “Rough calculations would place the percentage of title borrowers who lose their jobs as a result of title lending at 1.5 percent.”

Regulators could be of some help to title loan consumers, Skiba said. The research shows that most title loan customers are overly optimistic that they will pay back their loans on time, which means the loan ends up costing them much more than they believe it will when they first receive it.

“Policymakers should require that title lending companies post information about how people actually use title loans: information about the number of times people roll over their loan, the amount of money those rollovers cost in total, the number and amount of late fees and other fees people pay, and the likelihood of defaulting on the loan,” the study reads. “Research has demonstrated in real world markets that disclosure rules can be used to inform people about how others use the loans, which can change their expectations about their own use of the product.”

The Top Car selling Websites in Kenya

Share and Enjoy

The business of selling cars and parts has grown in complexity beyond layman’s understanding. Technology has taken over most business transactions and the auto sales segment is not an exception. Sale of both used and new vehicles has found a ‘new home’ on the internet platform, and what a display shelf for the websites and blogs!

In Kenya, a sea of websites and blogs top the category of outstanding online auto sellers. Most are however similar in the layout and the general business model and flow of transactions, only minimal differences exist (apart from the names) that distinguish the sites. The best blogs will give you new and used vehicle buying ideas, travel tips for Kenya, car maintenance, driving tips, car repair, engine tuning, where to buy cars, import duty for new and used cars and the best car customization garages in Kenya. Basically, a  car blog should be very educative to the reader.

Some of the tools to look for in a car website

Search facility

All the top performing auto selling websites tend to have similar specific areas of target. For instance, they all have an active search engine to enable their visitors to search through the database of the cars they stock. This can be seen on blogs like Kenyacarbazaar.com/blog/. autobazaar.co.ke. and Mottiz.com which operates in the wider East Africa. The searches are based on pricing, makes and models, and possibly the year of manufacture.

Importers and vehicle buyers

There is a facility designed to help people seeking to import vehicles into the country. Importers can select the specific vehicles they wish to purchase after running another secondary search. Again, this tool is available in most sites like kenyacarbazaar.com/blog /, Mottiz.com. Cheki.co.ke .

Similarly, buyers can buy the already imported and second-hand/used vehicles. The used vehicles are obtained through yet another facility, the sellers segment.

Import guide

Insurance schemes for customers

A new trend with these online car marketers is the advice or be it marketing they do on the insurance policies provided by the major insurance firms. An example is cheki.co.ke which offers this invaluable insurance advisory service   as well as the spare parts sale.

Rich catalogs

For those seeking prior information about the vehicles available before committing to the transaction, a wealth of this in form of pictures and text is available in the catalogs. Each of these websites provides informative catalogs for the benefit of customers and visitors.

The truth about extended warranties

#auto extended warranty

The truth about extended warranties

If you buy a new smartphone, tablet, computer, TV or even car stereo, it’s very likely the sales person will try to sell you an extended warranty. You never know when something terrible might happen to your gadget, after all.

It’s no secret that extended warranties are a money-maker for stores, otherwise they wouldn’t push them so hard. But does that mean that they’re a bad deal for you? It depends on a number of factors that we’ll look at. There are also some alternatives to in-store extended warranties you should know.

Alternatives

Before you even consider any extended warranty, check with your credit card company. It might give you an extended warranty or extra benefits automatically when you buy with certain cards. Some cards will extend the manufacturer’s warranty another full year.

You also might want to shop around for the item you want. Some stores will throw in an extended warranty or extend the factory warranty for free when you buy from them. It’s a good way to get extra protection without paying.

Family Vacation: America s Best-Selling Minivans Duke It Out for Our Big Test Crown

Family Vacation: America s Best-Selling Minivans Duke It Out for Our Big Test Crown

Share this article in:

Growing up, I had a lot of fun in our family s minivans. Our family s first car was a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that my dad used to shuttle me to early-morning hockey practice. (My little brothers would hide half-eaten bagels in the seats.)

When it wasn t schlepping hockey gear and old bagels around, our family used it for our annual summer vacation from Brooklyn to Bethany Beach, Delaware. Filled with boogie boards, Game Boys, and what felt like everything my mom owned, our forest-green Grand Caravan became everything from an Army helicopter to a karaoke room as my brothers and I entertained ourselves on the journey.

To my 9-year-old self, nothing was cooler than that van and the fun-filled vacations it promised.

For most minivan buyers there’s no driving trait more important than ride and handling.

Sometime between the time our family s second minivan caught fire in 2002 (long story) and the end of the decade, the popularity of the minivan plummeted. The market went from more than 11 models at its peak to just eight or so, depending on who s counting. The meat of the market is covered by the five Big Test competitors you see here: the 2014 Chrysler Town Country S, 2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite, 2015 Kia Sedona SXL, 2014 Nissan Quest LE, and the 2015 Toyota Sienna SE.

Ride Handling

Although going fast can be nice, for most minivan buyers there s no driving trait more important than ride and handling—after all, poor ride and handling characteristics can result in carsick children stuck in the third row. (Ask me how I know.) To test each van s ride and handling abilities, we devised a drive loop in Los Angeles ritzy Palos Verdes area. This diverse loop included stop-and-go suburban traffic, bits of highway speeds, and a rough section of road.

The Best Used Car Deals Online

The Best Used Car Deals Online

June 9, 2014

Buying a used car can be difficult, and searching for the best used car deals you can find can be even more challenging. You want to make sure that you are getting a good price, that it is easy on gas and that it is safe. The last thing that you want is to be stuck with a bad car. The Internet provides an excellent opportunity to find great pre-owned cars.

Start your search for a used car

Research Used Car Information

Before buying a pre-owned car, it is always a good idea to conduct some research on your own. Organizations like Edmonds and Consumer Reports provide information on every car on the market today, including information about safety, performance and repairs. Also, you can find information about resale values and associated costs of ownership.

Set a Budget

You may have quite a bit of money set aside, but you need to make sure that you have enough room for haggling. By deciding on a set amount, you will be less likely to go over that when you are looking at a used car to buy. This is especially important if you are buying a used car that you will have to make payments on. When you have a set amount for a down payment, you will be able to pick a car that is within your monthly allowance, while still staying at or under the amount you have set aside.

Search Online Resources for Used Car Deals

There are a number of online sources for used cars, including both large dealerships and individuals. Websites like AutoTrader and AutoMart have extensive databases of cars that are being sold across the country. You can conduct a search with specific parameters, including make, model, year, mileage and distance from your location. One of the advantages of using a large site like one of these is that many car dealerships list pre-owned vehicles, which have been inspected and certified by a professional mechanic.

Another online source for used cars are companies like CarMax. These companies have both online search features as well as physical car dealerships where you can personally inspect vehicles and even arrange financing for a purchase. In many cases, vehicles at dealerships like these are either lease returns or cars that have been turned in as a trade-in for a new car purchase. Lease returns can be an especially great deal because they usually have low miles and are well maintained. Also, companies like CarMax have their own certified inspection process, and often offer a short term vehicle guarantee as part of the purchase contract.

Companies like CarsDirect combine both new and used cars on their websites. This can be an excellent way to compare prices and characteristics of both types of cars and decide if you are truly finding a bargain or if you should continue refining your search until you find a vehicle that meets your needs and finances.

Start your search for a used car

Finally, there are online auction sites like eBay. If you know precisely what you are looking for and are willing to sort through all of the ads, it is definitely possible to find a bargain through eBay Motors. However, be especially careful of purchasing cars from individuals through auction sites, since you may have no recourse if there is a problem with the vehicle after you have completed the purchase.

Order a Car History Report

Before buying any car online, ask for the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and run a car history report. Companies like AutoCheck and Carfax provide complete car histories, including original purchase date, claims history, accident history and repairs. If a seller is reluctant to give you the VIN or discourages you from researching the vehicle, be wary and willing to walk away from the sale. This can be an indication of potentially large problems with the vehicle in question.

Take a Test Drive

You need to make sure that the car drives well, and that the motor and transmission work the way they should. Make sure that the dealership you visit allows you to take a rather extensive test drive because sometimes problems do not show up until the car has had a chance to warm up. Obviously, this may not be possible if the car you want is at a distant location. Take this into account when deciding if the car is worth the price, however low it may be.

Get an Inspection

After you have done the research and taken the car for a test drive, it’s time to bring in a mechanic to examine the car thoroughly. The mechanic can point out any issues with the car, including fluid leaks and other problem areas. Make sure that the dealership is going to allow your mechanic to test drive the car as well. As with the test drive, this may be difficult if the car is far away. Still, you should be able to find an independent mechanic near the car who can conduct an inspection for a small fee.

The Impact of the Automobile on the 20th Century

#automobil

Starting in the late 1700’s, European engineers began tinkering with motor powered vehicles. Steam, combustion, and electrical motors had all been attempted by the mid 1800’s. By the 1900’s, it was uncertain which type of engine would power the automobile. At first, the electric car was the most popular, but at the time a battery did not exist that would allow a car to move with much speed or over a long distance. Even though some of the earlier speed records were set by electric cars, they did not stay in production past the first decade of the 20th century. The steam-driven automobile lasted into 1920’s. However, the price on steam powered engines, either to build or maintain was incomparable to the gas powered engines. Not only was the price a problem, but the risk of a boiler explosion also kept the steam engine from becoming popular. The combustion engine continually beat out the competition, and the early American automobile pioneers like Ransom E. Olds and Henry Ford built reliable combustion engines, rejecting the ideas of steam or electrical power from the start.

Automotive production on a commercial scale started in France in 1890. Commercial production in the United States began at the beginning of the 1900’s and was equal to that of Europe’s. In those days, the European industry consisted of small independent firms that would turn out a few cars by means of precise engineering and handicraft methods. The American automobile plants were assembly line operations, which meant using parts made by independent suppliers and putting them together at the plant. In the early 1900’s, the United States had about 2,000 firms producing one or more cars. By 1920 the number of firms had decreased to about 100 and by 1929 to 44. In 1976 the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association had only 11 members. The same situation occurred in Europe and Japan.

The first automobile produced for the masses in the US was the three-horsepower, curved-dash Oldsmobile; 425 of them were sold in 1901 and 5,000 in 1904–this model is still prized by collectors. The firm prospered, and it was noted by others, and, from 1904 to 1908, 241 automobile-manufacturing firms went into business in the United States. One of these was the Ford Motor Company which was organized in June 1903, and sold its first car on the following July 23. The company produced 1,700 cars during its first full year of business. Henry Ford produced the Model T to be an economical car for the average American. By 1920 Ford sold over a million cars.

At the beginning of the century the automobile entered the transportation market as a toy for the rich. However, it became increasingly popular among the general population because it gave travelers the freedom to travel when they wanted to and where they wanted. As a result, in North America and Europe the automobile became cheaper and more accessible to the middle class. This was facilitated by Henry Ford who did two important things. First he priced his car to be as affordable as possible and second, he paid his workers enough to be able to purchase the cars they were manufacturing. This helped push wages and auto sales upward. The convenience of the automobile freed people from the need to live near rail lines or stations; they could choose locations almost anywhere in an urban area, as long as roads were available to connect them to other places. Many states in the US established motor fuel taxes that were used only to build and maintain highways helping the auto highway system become self-supporting.

Popularity of the automobile has consistently moved with the state of the economy, growing during the boom period after World War I and dropping abruptly during the Great Depression, when unemployment was high. World War II saw a large increase in mass transit because employment was high and automobiles were scarce. The rapid growth of car owners after World War II, particularly in the United States and Western Europe demonstrated the population’s favor towards automobiles. During the war, automobile motors, fuel, and tires were in short supply. There was an unsatisfied demand when the war ended and plenty of production capacity as factories turned off the war machine. Many people had saved money because there was little to buy, beyond necessities, in the war years. Workers relied heavily on mass transportation during the war and longed for the freedom and flexibility of the automobile.

A historian has said that Henry Ford freed common people from the limitations of their geography. The automobile created mobility on a scale never known before, and the total effect on living habits and social customs is endless. In the days of horse-drawn transportation, the practical limit of wagon travel was 10 to 15 miles, so that meant any community or individual farm more than 15 miles from a city, a railroad, or a navigable waterway was isolated from the mainstream of economic and social life. Motor vehicles and paved roads have narrowed the gap between rural and urban life. Farmers can ship easily and economically by truck and can drive to town when it is convenient. In addition, such institutions as regional schools and hospitals are now accessible by bus and car.

Yet, the effect on city life has been, if anything, more prominent than the effect on the farms. The automobile has radically changed city life by accelerating the outward expansion of population into the suburbs. The suburban trend is emphasized by the fact that highway transportation encourages business and industry to move outward to sites where land is cheaper, where access by car and truck is easier than in crowded cities, and where space is available for their one or two story structures. Better roads were constructed, which further increased travel throughout the nation. As with other automobile-related phenomena, the trend is most noticeable in the United States but is rapidly appearing elsewhere in the world.

Before the automobile, people both lived in the city and worked in the city, or lived in the country and worked on a farm. Because of the automobile, the growth of suburbs has allowed people to live on the outskirts of the city and be able to work in the city by commuting. New jobs due to the impact of the automobile such as fast food, city/highway construction, state patrol/police, convenience stores, gas stations, auto repair shops, auto shops, etc. allow more employment for the world’s growing population.

While a couple of states like California and Washington are attempting to impose laws and regulations that will make basic car insurance more affordable for low-income drivers and families, the programs have not been in place long enough to have a considerable effect on premium prices. Moreover, because only a couple of states are enacting this type of legislation, the majority of low-income drivers across the country are either uninsured or underinsured.

Driving without car insurance is not only against the law – it is very unwise. If you’re involved in a car accident and have no car insurance, you can be sued or even go to jail. So even though car insurance is expensive, you’ll need to make sure that you maintain the legally required minimum levels of coverage for your state. Knowing where to find the most affordable car insurance policies can offer a little relief.

Choose Low Income Insurance Specialists

While you can purchase basic car insurance coverage from any car insurance company, there are some that specialize in policies for low-income drivers. Companies that specialize in low income car insurance policies provide only the most minimal amounts of coverage, but do attempt to make policy rates more affordable. They often require smaller down payments and may require direct debit payments from your checking or savings account in exchange for offering low rates. Here is a list of some of the most popular low income car insurance companies.

  • Eastwood Insurance
  • Progressive
  • GMAC
  • Infinity
  • Bristol West
  • Western General
  • Western United

Other Ways to Save on Low Income Car Insurance

Just as with any other type of car insurance, the amount of money you pay for low income car insurance will depend upon your personal driving record and the type of car you need to ensure. So, by making sure that you always follow the law and traffic regulations when driving your vehicle, you can avoid costly traffic tickets that will not only cost you money in fines and penalties, but will also increase your car insurance rates.

Many insurance companies can offer low rates for the most basic types of car insurance coverage; so, you might also want to consider visiting independent car insurance agencies in your area and asking the agent about which companies provide minimal level coverage for the lowest prices. There are literally hundreds of smaller insurance companies across the country that can provide low income car insurance. Just be sure to do your research and make sure the one you choose is financially sound, and pays out on claims in the event of an accident. You can use the Internet to search for information on any car insurance company in the country.

The bargain ‘second-hand’ cars with no previous owner

By Theo Leggett Business reporter, BBC News

9 May 2014

Buying a car can be exciting, but it can also be quite a headache.

One of the big choices facing buyers is whether to get something new, or a used model with a few miles on the clock.

It is a shiny silver Renault Megane, registered in 2014, and it has just six miles on the clock.

Is the car going to be right for you – is it going do the job you want it to do? And how much is it going to cost? Ian Crowder, AA Cars

There isn’t a fleck of dirt on it, the interior still has that unique new car smell, and its tyres have barely kissed the tarmac.

Yet as far as the motor trade is concerned, the Renault is a used vehicle, and it has a price tag to match.

It is on the market for £12,999, several thousand pounds less than you’d normally expect to pay for a new model.

Bargains like this can be found quite easily, if you know where to find them – and if you are willing to make certain compromises.

New or used?

Research recently carried out by the AA suggests three-quarters of drivers plan to buy a new set of wheels within the next five years.

For many people, the choice will ultimately boil down to cost.

“A lot of care needs to be taken,” warns Ian Crowder of AA cars.

“Is the car going to be right for you – is it going do the job you want it to do? And how much is it going to cost? It’s important to think about your budget and how you’re going to pay for it.”

“And how long do you plan to keep it? That might dictate whether you go for a new car or a used one,” he says.

There are big advantages to owning a car that has never been driven.

It is less likely to go wrong, and if it does, the manufacturer will sort it out under warranty.

You know its history, and you are unlikely to find any nasty surprises.

There is a catch though. Not only are new cars more expensive to buy, they also lose their value very quickly. In fact they can be worth up to 40% less the moment you drive them away from the dealership.

New ‘in effect’

Yet there are circumstances in which it can cost you less – over time – to buy a new car than a used model.

It may be the case, for example, if you are planning to pay for it on credit.

This is because manufacturers frequently offer low-cost or interest-free loans on new cars, along with other incentives which may not be available for used car sales.

A recent survey by What Car? Magazine suggests that, over a three-year period, new cars bought using a standard hire purchase agreement, or under a Personal Contract Purchase, can end up cheaper than used models about half of the time.

This doesn’t mean that new cars are actually cheaper of course, simply that there are good funding deals to be had, and that credit for used cars is often more expensive.

Nevertheless it is entirely possible to buy a car that is, in effect, new, for the price of a second-hand model.

Image caption Motor dealer Lee Arnold says buying “nearly new” can offer huge savings

‘Massive savings’

Which brings me back to that Renault.

The silver Megane is what is known as a “nearly new” or pre-registered car. It was first registered by a franchised dealer, who wanted to boost his sales figures in order to pick up lucrative incentives from the manufacturer.

In effect, the dealer bought the car himself.

“For us, our best customers are people who buy second-hand or nearly new vehicles”, says Lee Arnold, general manager of Motorpoint in Peterborough.

“If you don’t mind being the second owner of the vehicle, you can have massive savings off the retail price,” he says.

There is a catch of course. When you buy a pre-registered car, as Mr Arnold points out, you will be listed on the registration document as the second owner, which could affect the value when you come to sell it.

If it is a few months old, the warranty will be that bit shorter as well.

There is also less choice; you have to accept what is available, and may not be able to get the precise model you want.

But if you are not worried about the colour or the number of cup-holders, there are some good deals to be had.

The key, when you’re thinking about buying a car, is always to do your research first. That way you could end up driving off with a bargain – and avoid any nasty surprises.

The Best Extended Car Warranty of 2016

Extended Car Warranty Services Review

Many cars’ auto manufacturer warranties expire around 60,000 to 100,000 miles. The need for repairs sometimes kicks in right around the time that the manufacturer s warranty runs out. An extended car warranty can potentially save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars on repair costs, giving you peace of mind.

Extended Car Warranty: What to Look For

With all of the options for extended warranty plans out there, it can be tricky to find the right warranty to cover your automobile. Not all extended car warranties provide the same coverage or options, and you will want to choose carefully. The following are the main criteria we used to evaluate the best extended car warranty services.

You should ask yourself what parts on your car you need covered. Many warranties let you customize what you want covered to an extent. For example, you might just want to cover the powertrain, which consists of the engine, transmission, drive shaft, suspension and wheels, or you might want additional coverage for the electrical systems of the car. You can also opt to for a bumper-to-bumper warranty that covers almost all of the car’s systems. Most companies have various packages to choose from that will cover cars of different ages with odometer readings of up to around 150,000 miles. Generally, the more comprehensive the plan, the more restrictions imposed on the car s age and mileage.

Whatever you are looking for, be sure to pay special attention to what your contract will and won’t cover. For example, often a warranty will cover a certain type of damage like mechanical failure but not incidental damage caused by overheating. It is also important to consider how long the policy will last, if it is available in every state and if the warranty will cover roadside assistance or rental car reimbursement. You will also want to watch for mileage limitations and if the warranty will cover a towing service if you end up stranded somewhere.

Claim Services

Providing great service is what really sets an auto warranty company apart from the competition. Look for a warranty provider that gives you online and phone quotes on your vehicle. The best extended warranty companies let you spread out the cost of the payment plan instead of demanding the whole sum all at once. They also offer a variety of packages ranging in coverage and affordability. Many companies will also offer a money-back guarantee in case you decide a plan you choose isn t right for you.

Some of the best companies are direct providers, so that you can deal directly with that company when you make a claim, as opposed to dealing with an outsourced company. While an outsourced company can still provide good service, dealing directly with the company is an advantage because the same company will handle your claim every step of the way.

You will want to make sure that your warranty is transferrable as well. This can be a big perk if you sell your car since many buyers look for a warranty to give them confidence in their purchase. The best warranties allow you to choose your own repair shop and do not require you to pay upfront. This is handy, especially if you have problems while you are away from home.

Help Support

The best extended car warranties come with excellent service and support. Most companies can be reached during normal business hours, but not all can be reached in the middle of the night. You’ll want to look for warranties that include 24/7 service by telephone, live chat or email. Also, you will want to be sure the company provides adequate information about its warranties and policies upfront on its website. It is especially important to see the contract documentation beforehand and receive answers to your questions before you sign for an extended car warranty to help you make the choice that benefits you the most.

Not knowing when you will have to pay for a major car repair can be nerve-wracking, but finding the right extended car warranty can help give you peace of mind. It doesn’t have to be a hassle to find the right company, especially if you use our matrix and extended car warranty reviews to find the policy that gives you the best coverage, claim services and support.

The Age of the Automobile

46a. The Age of the Automobile

Cruising in automobiles such as the Duesenberg pictured above was popular in America, but this typically Sunday afternoon family past time was largely discontinued during the depression.

Perhaps no invention affected American everyday life in the 20th century more than the automobile.

Although the technology for the automobile existed in the 19th century, it took Henry Ford to make the useful gadget accessible to the American public. Ford used the idea of the assembly line for automobile manufacturing. He paid his workers an unprecedented $5 a day when most laborers were bringing home two, hoping that it would increase their productivity. Furthermore, they might use their higher earnings to purchase a new car.

Ford reduced options, even stating that the public could choose whatever color car they wanted so long as it was black. The Model T sold for $490 in 1914, about one quarter the cost of the previous decade. By 1920, there were over 8 million registrations. The 1920s saw tremendous growth in automobile ownership, with the number of registered drivers almost tripling to 23 million by the end of the decade.

Economic Spin-offs

The growth of the automobile industry caused an economic revolution across the United States. Dozens of spin-off industries blossomed. Of course the demand for vulcanized rubber skyrocketed. Road construction created thousands of new jobs, as state and local governments began funding highway design.

Motorsports Hall of Fame

The famous ‘Ford 999’ racer from 1902. Although it is not the first race car ever built, it is certainly the first car to rise to the status of legend.

Even the federal government became involved with the Federal Highway Act of 1921. Gas stations began to dot the land, and mechanics began to earn a living fixing the inevitable problems. Oil and steel were two well-established industries that received a serious boost by the demand for automobiles. Travelers on the road needed shelter on long trips, so motels began to line the major long-distance routes.

Even cuisine was transformed by the automobile. The quintessential American foods hamburgers, french fries, milk shakes, and apple pies were hallmarks of the new roadside diner. Drivers wanted cheap, relatively fast food so they could be on their way in a hurry. Unfortunately, as new businesses flourished, old ones decayed. When America opted for the automobile, the nation’s rails began to be neglected. As European nations were strengthening mass transit systems, individualistic Americans invested in the automobile infrastructure.

Effects of the Automobile

The social effects of the automobile were as great. Freedom of choice encouraged many family vacations to places previously impossible. Urban dwellers had the opportunity to rediscover pristine landscapes, just as rural dwellers were able to shop in towns and cities. Teenagers gained more and more independence with driving freedom. Dating couples found a portable place to be alone as the automobile helped to facilitate relaxed sexual attitudes.

Americans experienced traffic jams for the first time, as well as traffic accidents and fatalities. Soon demands were made for licensure and safety regulation on the state level. Despite the drawbacks, Americans loved their cars. As more and more were purchased, drivers saw their worlds grow much larger.

This place is awesome!  Clean waiting room with wifi, phone chargers, coffee a cool fish tank.

A couple of months ago my wife had a check engine light on and I was on my way out of town.  I have heard ads on the radio that certain large chain place does free check engine light readings.  I really wanted to make sure before I went out of town that my wife s car would be safe to drive until I could get back to resolve the light.  We stopped in to the other guys in Lake Forest and the place was filthy. Okay I m in a hurry we are here and it is free so whatever. I thought.  The guy said he could check it but we would have to leave it for a day, that the process takes 4 hours minimum and they would need the car over night.  I told him that would not work, and I know that it takes all of 5 minutes to plug the reader in and see what the codes say which was all I needed.   Nope he said, four hours, over night at best.

We left.  Right away we called The Auto Shop.  We had discovered this place after an ad for an oil change and it was a great experience.  At this point I was willing to pay if needed just for the piece of mind.   Do you guys do check engine lights? We asked.   Sure do . Was the reply.   Is there any way you can read my code today? I asked.   No problem, how soon can you get here? They said.

We were 15 minutes away so we drove right over Shawn took care of us and 10 minutes later told us what the code was and that it was okay to drive until we could get it fixed.  He did that free of charge.

Today we brought the car in for a different problem.  Scott spent a good 30 minutes or more making sure that he fully understood the problem.  He asked my wife all the right questions and made a ton of detailed notes for the tech.  Really top notch service.

I have full faith that they will get her car back on the road in no time.

These guys are friendly honest.  The place is clean and they really seem to care about you.  I highly recommend them.

The 11 Best Used Car Websites and Resources for Car Buying

One of the biggest ways that the digital age has revolutionized the auto sales market is the ability to browse used cars inventories from the comfort of your home. Instead of driving from lot to lot, you can find exactly what you’re looking for at a used car sales website.

With over 1.5 million used car listings, CarsDirect is a great place to start your search. There are lots of ways to find the right car. If you know exactly what you want, start with location, make and model, then refine by year, color and features that are most important to you. It’s just as easy if you don’t have a specific make or model in mind — in that case, you might begin your search with a body style and a price range. Start your used car search now.

You can supplement your research with helpful information and listings at sites like these:

  • NADAguides.com. The official website of the National Automotive Dealers Association. While it is mainly dealer cars, they also allow private party ads. You can search by make, model and body style as well as price. They also have research tools and a new car search. The site is easy to navigate and has a lot of information.
  • Autobytel.com. Autobytel was one of the first automotive websites but has lost a bit of its luster in recent years. It is no longer the dominant website but still has a large selection of vehicles to choose from and a lot of research options.
  • Cars.com. This site is owned by a conglomerate of various newspaper groups. It has all the standard features of top notch used car website as well as a lot of research and car reviews.
  • CarSoup.com. CarSoup started in the Minnesota market but has expanded to almost all 50 states, though it tends to serve smaller cities. Its quirky style and Carsoup radio make it a site worth visiting.
  • Local dealer groups. Often some of the best websites to check for a good used car are your local dealers’ websites. All the cars you see will be nearby and they often offer financing options that may be specific to your market.
  • Autotrader.com. Autotrader is currently the largest and most popular automotive website. Their listings are often linked to other sites. It has one of the largest inventories of private party vehicles.
  • CarMax.com. CarMax is a little different. It pulls its inventory from its 140+ stores across the country, so it is in essence a very large national dealer group. It also has a “no haggle price” and every car gets a 125-point inspection.
  • eBay.com/motors. On eBay you can search for a car locally or nationally. They offer dealer cars and probably have the largest selection of private party ads on the web. You can even buy a car through an auction, which is what eBay does best.
  • KBB.com. KBB.com is Kelley Blue Book’s website, so you know it is full of researching options and the latest pricing info on most vehicles. They also have a large selection of used and new cars. It is well laid out and easy to use.
  • AuctionDirectUSA.com. Though they do have three physical locations, Auctiondirectusa.com is intended for those who are looking to buy a car online or sell cars online. You can even trade your car in with them for another, or trade in your old vehicle for cash. They also make it very easy to order a car and ship one to wherever you live.
  • Look for used cars near you

How to Find the Perfect Used Car Online

Purchasing from used car listings can be a challenging experience and some buyers may end up with a vehicle that doesn’t match their requirements. Researching various online car listings is important — buyers should be well informed about the prices offered by auto websites. Buyers can purchase the perfect car, provided they research minute details and do their homework before making a payment. Here are a few tips to bear in mind before making an online used car purchase.

  • Determine the type of car. Avoid making impulsive decisions and purchasing cars that don’t match your lifestyle. Make a list of your routine driving needs and select a car that best matches those needs.
  • Define your budget. Consider the maximum monthly payment that you can afford and look at used car listings with this price in mind.
  • Define the features you need. Just as optional features increase the cost of a new car, they can make a used car more expensive. If you won’t use a navigation system, for instance, it might be cheaper to choose a used car without one.
  • Factor in additional costs. Apart from the car’s selling price, you should also budget for taxes and other fees that often add 10%. Once the total cost of the car is determined, look at your financing options to obtain the best deal available.
  • Cross-reference various online used car listings. To get a quality car for a good price, putting in the extra time to comparison shop is a must. Buyers should also research Kelley Blue Book to determine the actual worth of used cars.
  • Run a vehicle history check. Before selecting any used car online, it’s advisable to run a vehicle history check to find out if the car has been in accidents. A vehicle’s history report also provides information on the number of times the car was previously sold.
  • Use different search criteria. Most used car websites allow buyers to search online listings according to various search parameters. Buyers may research used cars based on vehicle type, vehicle size and mileage. This helps narrow a list to cars that closely match specific requirements. It’s best to shop around for a while before making a final decision.
  • Stay informed about scams and deals. In addition to looking up car listings, many used car websites provide up-to-date news about scams to avoid and certified dealers to buy from. A few good resources for used car listings online include CarsDirect, UsedCars.com and CarMax.
  • Read car reviews. It’s advisable to read reviews for the specific type of used car you intend to purchase. ConsumerReports.org is an unbiased resource for reliability. Several websites such as Kelley Blue Book and VEHIX provide information on car features and specifications.
  • Start your search for a used car here

Once you find the ideal car, it’s important to research insurance rates offered by major insurance companies. Since used cars with a history of theft or damage require higher premium payments, buyers should bear these aspects in mind before selecting a used vehicle.

The Best Antique Car Insurance Companies

So, if you are looking to insure an antique automobile, all you have to do is find the best company.  How do you do that?

The Specialists

Specialized insurers are a great place to start.  There are a number of large, reputable insurers out there that specialize in antique, classic and vintage autos.  They’ve been in the business a long time and understand the special requirements of antique car owners.  They know, for example, that real antique vehicles should always be insured at a negotiated “agreed value” rate as opposed to the “actual cash” or “stated” value.

The following are three names that often come up when owners talk about antique car insurance companies:

Now owned and operated by Philadelphia Insurance Companies, Grundy Worldwide has been in the business of insuring classic and antique vehicles since the mid-1940’s.  Founded by James Grundy Sr. Grundy claims to be the first company to write an antique auto policy as well as to be the originators of the agreed value endorsement.  Grundy is the preferred insurance company of the Classic Car Club of America.

Based in Traverse City, Michigan, Hagerty Insurance was established around forty years ago as a general insurer.  Aware of the growing need for specialized coverage, Hagerty began writing agreed value policies on classic wooden boats in 1983 and classic cars in 1991.  Since that time, Hagerty has become a leader in classic and antique vehicle protection.  Hagerty also offers membership in the Hagerty Collector Network, an organization with over 225,000 members.

  • Heacock Classic Car Collector Insurance

Another insurer of note is Heacock Classic Car Collector Insurance.  Heacock Classic is owned by the Heacock Insurance Group, a full-service insurance agency founded in 1922 and based in Sebring, Florida.  The Heacock family has been intimately involved in Sebring’s racing community since the 1950’s and in the creation of both the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association and Vintage Motorsport magazine.  Heacock Classic is now recognized nationally in the car collector insurance business.

In addition to insurers who specialize in antique vehicle insurance, there are a number of major companies that write classic and antique car policies along with their more conventional offerings.  The Hartford. Farmers. Allstate and Geico are just a few of the majors out there that will insure your antique vehicle.  If you already have insurance on your regular cars with a major company, check with them to see if they offer policies for antiques and classics.  You may be able to save by insuring all of your vehicles under one roof.  Just make sure that your agent fully understands the unique needs of insuring antique automobiles and that you are covered for your car’s agreed value.

The bottom line is this: The best antique car insurance company is the one with a policy that works best for you.    Determine how you intend to use your antique vehicle and then contact several companies.  The more you have to choose from, the better.  If you are really into antique, classic and vintage automobiles, then you probably belong to a local club or organization.  Ask other owners who they insure with and how the experience has been.  There’s no better recommendation than the one that comes from word-of-mouth.  Just remember that if you put in the time and effort at the beginning of your search, you will more likely save money on your premiums and less likely be disappointed if you ever need to make a claim.  As long as you do your homework and deal with a reputable company, you’ll be fine.

Made In America By Americans – The American Automobile

Greetings From Detroit

Let us go back more than 100 years and stand on a main street of an American town. Since Detroit, Michigan has many links to the American Automobile, let us imagine that we are there. In the late 1800s Detroit was more like a small country town without skyscrapers, large buildings, factories, masses of people and automobiles.

Only bicycles, horse drawn streetcars, buggies and wagons are found on the streets. In the distance comes the call of a railroad train and on the river a steamboat whistles. In the late 1800s these were the only forms of transportation.

More than one hundred years ago there were no Chevrolet, Ford, Buick, Chrysler or Cadillac. Also absent were the National Sextet, Franklin, Hudson, Cole, Maxwell, The Moon plus 100s of other small American Automobile manufactures located all across this country.

More than one hundred years ago a trip of ten miles to town and back took a day. The country was settled along rail and water transportation routes. The American Automobile was to become the instrument for changing this situation.

At American Automobiles we not only pay tribute to Chevrolet, Chrysler and Ford but also the hundred’s of small American Automobile Manufactures all across this nation.

Long before the late 1800s men dreamed of the automobile. An engine run by steam power was the first step toward a motor driven vehicle. Unfortunately, early inventors had enemies in the railroads and the horse-and-carriage trade, both feared the horseless carriage as a competitors.

In 1860 a French engineer, Jean Joseph Lenoir developed the first 2 cycle gasoline engine. However, at first it didn’t work very well but Lenoir improved his engine and by 1862 put it on a vehicle. Soon after a four cycle motor was invented by the Germans and by the late 1870s complete motor vehicles were built in Europe by Otto, Daimler and Benz. If the Germans must be given credit for inventing a gasoline carriage, then the French must be applauded for making it more workable, popular and stylish. The French gave the horseless carriage a name, “Automobile” (self-moving) and by 1898 was accepted even in America.

The First American Automobile

1893 Duryea

In the early 1890s the Americans entered the automobile scene after some experimenting with steam and gas propelled boats and wagons. Naturally, they learned something from the Germans and French, but they also made contributions of their own.

The first successful American Automobile was constructed by tool and die maker, Frank Duryea and financed by his brother Charles Duryea. On or about September 20, 1893, he successfully drove the first American horseless carriage on the streets of Springfield, Massachusetts. It was certainly better that Daimler’s or Benz’s early productions.

Frank Duryea saw that this first American Automobile could be immensely improved and began to rebuild it. It was completed in 1894 and made the Duryea Brothers famous.

Auto Loans in The Volunteer State

Tennessee Car Loans for Any Credit

Trusted Lenders, Trusted Loans – Same Day Service!

How Our Process Works

Here s the way it works, step-by-step.

  • Apply Online for Financing. You can apply in 3 minutes, and no down payment is required. Our system accounts for where you live, as well as your income and credit score. There is no minimum credit score required, as we have lenders who deal with each of the different credit tiers.
  • Speak with Your Tennessee Car Loan Professional. You will be contacted by a consultant to go over your options. They should be able to provide you with an APR quote at this point, as well as the options as far as vehicles and lending terms. You may need to provide some additional documentation to finalize your approval.
  • Select a Vehicle from a Dealer In Your Town. Now that you re approved, you can select your new or used vehicle from a dealership locally. A pre-arranged loan will serve to streamline the process of buying your vehicle, and possibly improve your bargaining leverage with your dealer.

The Advantages of Pre-Approved Loans

Ever more Tennessee car shoppers are choosing to pre-arrange their financing. You can concentrate exclusively on the vehicle you want, rather than worrying about your credit approval. If you re approved through a third-party lender, then it s like a cash purchase. If you were approved through the dealer, you will be taken a lot more seriously, because the salesperson will realize you re all set to drive home in a new car. Basically, it improves the entire process, removing one of the main hassles of buying a new car.

Tennessee Auto Loan Rates

The cost of financing a vehicle is significant, particularly when you have subprime credit. Of course, your FICO score is the most important factor for the rate of interest you ll be offered. Have you checked your score lately? We highly recommend that you do so.

It also allows you to:

  • See what lenders see when assessing your credit history.
  • Determine what APR rate should be expected.
  • Get unlimited access to your credit scores.

Policy Coverage

Liability insurance is required by law in many states. Bodily injury coverage protects you if you injure another person in an accident while property damage covers costs for repairing or replacing property. Additional coverages include personal injury protection, uninsured motorist coverage, and rental car coverage. Ameriprise Financial and The Hartford offer all major coverage options, except pet injury protection. State Farm is missing this as well as the option to stack your uninsured motorist coverage limits on multiple vehicles in the same household.

Vehicle Coverage

Collision and comprehensive coverage make up the core of the vehicle coverage category. Collision coverage protects your car in the event of a crash while comprehensive coverage pays for any expense caused by fire, vandalism, or other non-collision-related accidents.

Certain companies also offer GAP insurance, new car replacement, and mechanical breakdown coverage to those who want it, though typically these cost extra. There is no clear winner in this category. Ameriprise and State Farm both offer GAP insurance, but The Hartford is the only one of the three to provide mechanical breakdown coverage. Ultimately, you have to choose what types of coverage are most important to you.

Additional Benefits

Additional benefits are the extras the auto insurance company offers, beyond the basic personal liability and vehicle protections. This includes medical payment coverage, reimbursement for rental cars, roadside assistance, and coverage for towing and labor expenses. All three insurance providers listed above offer these benefits.

Texas Auto Insurance

Requirements for Acquiring Auto Insurance

SafeAuto wants to help you get the lowest possible auto insurance rates. Being familiar with your state’s financial responsibility requirements is an easy way to start. Here is the most recent information for Texas:

To ensure drivers continue to meet the Financial Responsibility requirements, Texas requires insurance companies to provide a weekly report to the TexasSure vehicle identification system, listing the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of each vehicle insured under an active policy.

Penalty for failure to comply with Texas Financial Responsibility requirements:

Failure to maintain proper insurance could lead to the suspension of your driver’s license and fines. Under the Texas Driver Responsibility Program, drivers who are convicted of failure to maintain insurance are required to pay a flat surcharge of $250.00 per year. This surcharge is in addition to any other costs associated with the driving offenses and must be paid yearly for three (3) years. You may also be required to file an SR-22 or SR-22A.

Certificate of Financial Responsibility (SR-22 or SR-22A):

An SR-22 or SR-22A is a certificate of Financial Responsibility issued by your insurance company to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) providing proof that you purchased liability insurance. Drivers who are convicted of one or more of the following offenses may be required to purchase an SR-22 or SR-22A to reinstate their license:

Texas Car Insurance Quotes – Online Auto Insurance

Obtain Texas auto insurance quotes online:

OnlineAutoInsurance.com provides online car insurance quotes in TX. For those looking to save money on automobile coverage, the best way to do so is to compare multiple quotations from various companies. The good news is that the quote form provided above allows motorists to compare rates and coverage from insurers such Progressive, Infinity, AIG and more. Texas auto insurance quotes are determined by a few factors, including driving record, garaging address, the type of vehicle to be insured, accident and claims history, the driver s age, the type of use for the automobile-such as use during work or just to commute-along with other factors. The price that one can expect to pay for a policy is based on the risk that the applicant poses which is determined by the above items. The industry consensus is that the more violations on a person s driving record, the more likely he or she is to have an accident, which is why coverage can be more expensive when tickets or accidents are reflected on a policyholder s driving record.

How to find cheap online auto insurance quotes in Texas

Having no violations-such as tickets or accidents-on a driving record will be a great benefit when searching for inexpensive rates in the Lone Star State. If motorists have a clean driving history, they are viewed as less of a risk to insurers and are therefore rewarded with cheaper premiums.

Comparing multiple rates from various providers is an effective way to finding savings and cheap TX car insurance policies. Now, drivers can complete this task with one simple process and a few clicks of the mouse. By completing a brief questionnaire, consumers will be provided with numerous quotations from reputable insurers to compare from and save.

If in the market for comprehensive and collision coverage, which is commonly referred to as full coverage, one can consider high deductibles, such as $1,000, in order to reduce premiums. In most cases, the higher the deductible, the lower the premium. However, one should keep in mind that the amount chosen as a deductible is the amount that would have to be paid before receiving compensation after filing a claim.

Many companies have discounts available that may or may not be offered to a particular driver. Prior to buying Texas auto insurance policies, be sure to ask for any discount that one might qualify for such as driving a low number of miles, having anti-theft devices, safety features equipped, good grades and more. For more information, see the articles, frequently asked questions and news section provided below to help answer questions one may have during the comparison-shopping process.

Texas Auto Insurance Laws

Texas law requires that motorists maintain at least the following minimum liability coverage:

  • $30,000 for bodily injuries to one person.
  • $60,000 for bodily injuries to two or more people per accident.
  • $25,000 liability coverage for property damage. For example, this would cover damages to the other party s vehicle.

This coverage is commonly abbreviated as 30/60/25. Keep in mind that this coverage does not cover the insured s vehicle in case of an accident.

Questions About Texas Auto Insurance

In order for tornado-related vehicle damage to be covered, the insured must have carried comprehensive coverage at the time of the loss. Motorists who do have this included in a policy and have had their vehicles damaged in the Dallas-Fort Worth area should.

To determine a resident’s risk of being involved in an accident or filing a claim, coverage providers often take into consideration many different details. Often this information can range from personal information about a specific motorist, to the type of vehicle they drive and their.

Where to Find Auto Paint Supplies.

Where to Find Auto Paint Supplies

Auto paint supplies are easy to find. You can find them on the Internet, at traditional hardware stores, at car dealerships and at specialty shops such as AutoZone or Pep Boys, or catalog sales sites such as JC Whitney. There are several places you can can find auto paint supplies, which are listed below:

Internet

You can find auto paint supply stores such as www.paintforcars.com. which lists just about every product you will need to handle a repaint job properly. For example, if you are looking for a gallon of specialized urethane paint, this site will provide you with the color you need and suggestions on how to use it. To save money, try to buy auto paint during a sale period.

Even the big box stores such as The Home Depot or Wal-Mart and Sears can provide you with all of the paint materials you will need, including sanders, spray paint machines, sanding materials, specialized paints and sealers, airbrushes, steel wool and polymer sealers and other protectants. Neighborhood hardware stores can easily provide this material, plus various wax and protectant products such as Armor All, Meguiars wax and protectants, and NuFinish and NuVinyl.

Car Dealerships

Car dealers also act as auto paint suppliers. Although the dealership will try to sell you the work, it is their business to try to sell you everything from tires to headlights, so you can simply go to the parts counter and order the needed items. Be aware, though, that while they will have the exact part numbers you need, you will be paying a premium for them.

Specialty Stores and Catalog Sites

You will likely find your best pricing on these sites as they are mass-marketing warehouse sites that are geared to sell as inexpensively as possible. Therefore, you will probably find some of the following prices:

  • Sander: $500 to $750
  • Specialty Sandpapers: 80-grit or 00-grit for cleanup, $10 to $15
  • Spray Painter: $500 to $750
  • Proper Primer: $32 to $48, depending on the trucking charges and availability. Some hard-to-find paints can cost as much as $90, even at a warehouse store.
  • Proper Paint Products, Standard or Urethane: $32 to $90, depending on trucking fees and the product
  • Proper Finishing Equipment and Sealers. $20 to $30

Getting the Best Prices

Getting all the supplies you will need for an auto paint job can be expensive, so it s important that you get the best products for the best price. Try to look for an auto paint sale at your local paint suppliers. If you know the people in your paint store well, then it is highly recommended that you ask them to inform you of any upcoming sales or you can ask them when they usually have sales.

Generally, auto paint suppliers provide a much better rate than small auto paint shops. This is because they often obtain paints in wholesale.

    Suzuki Parts Superstore

When your item ships, our system automatically emails you with tracking information. Save piles of cash by buying your Suzuki auto parts from us. Our customer service is second to none in the auto parts industry. AutohausAZ is dedicated to helping the do-it-yourselfer. As unbelievable as it sounds, we will cover the shipping costs for your Suzuki parts order if it is over $75. Our pricing on Suzuki parts is so low, many people think we must be some sort of Suzuki auto parts secret. Our Suzuki web parts store is open every second of every minute of every hour of every day.

The Suzuki Company was founded in 1909 for manufacturing weaving looms, since the Japanese silk industry was booming at the time. They started getting involved in the manufacture of engines in the early 1950’s, when the people of Japan needed cheap, reliable transportation. From small gasoline engines designed to “clip on” to bicycles, the company moved on to motorcycles, for which they are still well-known.

Whether your Suzuki is a motorcycle or a four-wheeled auto, chances are good that you know the value of maintaining it with quality Suzuki parts. Japanese cars are known for their quality, reliability and economy, but they are mechanical things with parts and components that wear out over the course of normal use. Sometimes, it’s possible to extend the life of many Suzuki parts by developing good driving habits. For example, by avoiding hard application of the brakes (i.e. sudden stops), anticipating stops well in advance and using the engine compression to slow the vehicle by downshifting when appropriate, you can extend the life of your brake linings substantially. Avoiding pot holes and reducing speed over rough roads can also save wear and tear on Suzuki parts that make up your vehicle’s suspension system. In addition, there are many discount Suzuki parts you may wish to carry in your road emergency kit, such as radiator hoses, belts, and a spare fuel injector or two. Plan ahead, have some quality Suzuki parts on hand for those maintenance and minor repair jobs, and you’ll avoid some of those major repairs.
