    Do not get esurance for your care insurance. About a year ago, I switched from Geico to Esurance. My monthly premium for Geico was $165.00. When I called Esurance for a price quote, I was very excited and happy to get a quote for the same coverage for only $95.00! Well about 5 months down the road, I had a fender bender. I hit a tree and my front was damaged but my car was still drive able. I called and spoke to the Esurance customer service representative and they assured me that if I had claimed this accident that my monthly premium at most should go up a few dollars, if that. Well I just received my new policy and my rate went from $101.00 per month to $270.00. An increase of $170.00 (or 170% increase, if you do the math). I thought this was a joke but after speaking with the manager for more than a half an hour she said that they were sorry and the reason why my rate went up was because of my fender bender. They kept apologizing, of course, but couldn’t reduce my rate. I have been driving since I was 19, I am 35 now, never filed a car insurance claim and because I got a minor accident my rate goes through the roof. I have been a very safe driver for all these years and I can’t believe that they are trying to screw me. This is literally, highway robbery, even the Mafia isn’t this bad! I will never go back to them after all the promises of them saying that they are the best and my rate wouldn’t go up at all. I would understand a few dollars but to go from $101 to $270 is absurd. They make all these promises in the beginning but never follow through. Complete waste of time and money! Never again!

    I made the mistake of changing insurance to save a few dollars. After only 5 months, esurance increased my auto premium by $70, claiming I no longer qualified for the new customer discount . Then when I found another insurer cancelled both my auto homeowners policies, esurance charged me cancellation fees to the tune of $70. Is this how they show all their clients appreciation for their business? My advise: take your business to ANYONE but esurance. They’ll find a way to screw you too!

    Don’t buy Esurance

    I would advise against buying Esurance auto insurance. Esurance was the lowest price initially when we moved to Texas so we went with them. The first renewal period our premium increased 25%. Then we moved down the road 10 miles and even after a multi-policy discount (we added homeowners insurance), our premium went up another 15%. We will be shopping for different auto and homeowners insurance.

    Cancelling after 1 month

    We got esurance for our homeowners because they were much less expensive and had decent reviews but dont be fooled. We received a letter today stating we had a critical repair that needs to be done or our policy would be cancelled. The interesting thing is we had a home inspection AND appraisal done before purchasing this house and both scored the roof as good condition. Esurance will not accept those documents. Also because our foundation is stone our rate increased over $100. why wasnt this an option when we sigmed up? The woman i spoke to said because stone foundations are very rare. really? Every house on my street and probably 50% in my city are stone bevause its a historic town. cancelling them immediately.

    Claim Payment avoidance

    On January 1st of this year, while traveling on Pacific Ave between Forest Grove and Cornelius, a driver entered the highway from a driveway on the north side of the road, entered the center divider while speeding up, and pulled into my vehicle. It happened fast enough that I did not have time to react to avoid the collision. We both pulled to the right shoulder of the road immediately to exchange personal and insurance information. He told me that he didn’t see my vehicle as he sped up to merge. I asked how he couldn’t see a 2007 Chevy Tahoe that has automatic daytime running lights, to which he simply stated again that he did not see my vehicle. Based on the other driver’s insistence that he would insure his insurance company would cover all repairs and his pleading that I not let the police sort the accident out, I felt it best to immediately contact the police and report the accident.

    When the police arrived, he and I both provided a statement (police report is attached). The investigation seemed to take longer than I thought it would. It turns out the reason for the length of the investigation is that his Washington driver’s license came back as being suspended, so he was going to be cited for the accident. Though there was evident body damage, my vehicle seemed to be in good working order, so after the police left, I continued driving the vehicle. I was a little rattled by the suddenness of the accident, so I decided to go find a parking lot and park for a bit to settle down. I also decided that I would forgo the errands I had intended and try to make a little money driving for UBER.

    Immediately upon returning home that evening I completed an accident report for Oregon DMV, and filed a claim online with my insurance company (Esurance). I received an email on January 2nd from Esurance informing me of the claim number and adjuster assigned to the claim. (insufficient room for complete review)

State Auto insurance is sold exclusively through agents, and as a result there is no online quoting and no easy way to obtain a price comparison. The sale of policies through agents means commissions, something that usually equates to higher premium costs.

Online claims reporting is becoming an expected service, although it’s still somewhat unusual to see smaller companies offering it, so it is good to see this service available here.

The online claims service promises a call from a claims associate within the next business day to gather more information about the claim. After the initial contact, the adjuster will begin investigating the claim, reviewing the damage, and determining what benefits are available under the policy. They will then obtain estimates and settle the claim with the policyholder.

State Auto has a network of repair shops that are part of their “Quality Service Guarantee”. While policyholders can choose any repair shop they want, these shops will offer a warranty on their work.

Consumer Research and Complaints

State Auto has been accredited by the BBB since 1941, and currently has an A+ rating. There are a total of 70 complaints in the past three years, with 23 of those closed in the past 12 months. For a company as large as State Auto those numbers are not high.

There are some negative reviews out there, as there are for all insurance companies, but in general the numbers are low. There are enough positive reviews to counter those complaints. It seems as though there is a lot of confusion in the reviews between State Auto and State Farm, so it can be hard to tell to which company the complaint actually refers to.

Overall, there’s nothing of concern in the complaints, either in volume or content.

It s easy to feel like you got your money s worth from a delicious meal or a much-anticipated vacation, but what about when it comes something you don t necessarily want but need like which are the best insurance companies?

Fortunately for you, there are people like us who earn that money by combing through information about insurance companies (and actually really enjoy doing it).

Each year, Insure.com s Best Insurance Companies Survey reveals the 20 best auto insurance companies and the 15 best insurers for health, home and life insurance.

So instead of worrying that you re not getting the best that our hard-earned money can buy, you can enjoy that sweet satisfaction that comes with being a savvy consumer.

Auto, health and home insurers were ranked based on the ratings from surveyed policyholders in the categories of customer service, claims service, value for price, plan to renew, and would recommend. These five weighted categories reflected the priorities customers ranked the highest when considering insurance needs.

Our survey is a great tool in helping alleviate the anxiety of wondering if there s something better out there that you re missing, says Jennifer Shelton, managing editor of Insure.com. You might ask five or six family members for recommendations or spend hours online or on the phone. We ve asked more than 3,700 people, and in one glance, you can make the best determination for your needs.

Best auto insurance companies

Companies rate factors different, so variables — such as road construction, crime rates and accident frequency in your city, which change from year to year — can make a difference in the way a company would quote a policy. One company might rate the area in which you live more favorably than another, so it s always worth comparing quotes at least every couple of years so you can take advantage of best rates available.

For 2017, USAA reclaimed the top spot for auto insurance. The insurer has established reputation for treating its insurance members very well, but maybe that s because not just any John or Jane Doe can sign up. USAA requires military affiliation in order to have an account.

Auto Club of Southern California took second place this year, and while it is a state-specific insurer, the AAA affiliate insures more than six million members. Rounding out the top three is another AAA insurer: CSAA Insurance Group. Don t be fooled by the name; CSAA doesn t just service the state of California. The insurer writes coverage in 23 states plus the District of Columbia.

It shouldn t discourage you that the top three companies are affiliated with organizations. First off, USAA has a number of ways to show military association. And while the Auto Club of Southern California does require a AAA membership, CSAA does not, so anyone can purchase an insurance policy. However, you could also become a member of AAA and reap the additional benefits that come with that, such as road service.

Residents of the Golden State aren t short of choices, but going with an insurer who is completely focused and familiar with one of the most densely populated areas of the country seems to be a good choice.

Best health insurance companies

Health care in the U.S. can be an overwhelming field to navigate, so finding a company with which you can feel satisfied and cared for is like winning the Olympic Gold Medal at Adulting. Whether you have insurance through your employer, the Marketplace, or an individual policy, familiarizing yourself with the players in the game and their plan offerings and can help you make better choices come open enrollment.

Blue Cross Blue Shield affiliates appeared to have done a good job keeping consumer happy this year. Florida Blue and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan took the number one and number two spots, both earning 4.75 stars for customer service — the highest in the health survey.

A New York-based provider, EmblemHealth, received the third spot on our health insurance survey.

Between these three state-specific health insurers, they service over 12 million members of the 289 million Americans with some form of health insurance.

Best home insurance companies

Car insurance commercials constantly urge you to switch and chances are — unless you are an undiscovered superhero you re using your health care benefits a couple of times a year. But homeowners insurance is often not thought of much past the requirement to have it with your mortgage loan or in the unfortunate event of a home disaster. Your home insurance protects what is likely your most valuable asset. Understand your needs or your current policy, then compare the options carefully, and rest a little easier.

After earning the top spot in the auto category, USAA earned its second first-place finish this year with an overall score of 97.5, the highest score of the entire survey.

The distance between first and second place was the widest in the home category with a seven-point difference. Chubb has a reputation as the go-to company for high-end insurance needs, and it s high and consistent scores would indicate its clients are pleased with the result. Currently, the runner-up writes coverage in 31 states.

Allstate came in just a sliver behind Chubb with an overall score of 90.3, despite the nationwide insurer earning a perfect five in claims processing,

Best life insurance companies

Due to the unique nature of life insurance products, claims processing and likelihood of renewal are omitted from the scoring. The categories of customer service, value for price, and would recommend are the weighted factors measured in ranking the best life insurance companies.

In the only category where national and non-state or member companies reigned supreme, Voya Financial, formerly ING, came out on top this year in the life insurance category with a stellar overall score of 97.1 and a perfect five stars in customer service. The multi-line insurer, State Farm, came in second, and John Hancock Life Insurance finishes the top three.

Smaller companies may be keeping customers more satisfied

The overall trend observed is that smaller, leaner companies specializing in their particular line or region seems to be more successful at keeping their customers happier than those that are large enough to spread to every type of coverage and financial product. That said, there were a couple of successful Goliaths.

Penny Gusner, consumer analyst for Insure.com notes, It s remarkable that State Farm and Allstate are able to maintain such high marks in customer service. It s not uncommon to see companies as large and with such diverse products lose the ability to keep customer service at the heart of the company values.

Insure.com commissioned Op4G to survey more than 3,700 insurance customers nationwide in June 2016. The survey collected customer ratings for 20 leading companies in the auto category and 15 leading companies in each of the home, health and life categories. Only current customers of the insurers on our lists were surveyed, and the survey was not open to the general public on the Insure.com website.

Auto, home and health insurers were ranked according to a weighted 5-point measurement of the following factors: customer service, claims processing, value for price, would recommend and would renew. Life insurers were rated on a weighted 5-point measurement on customer service, value for price, and would recommend. Weighted measurements were derived from surveyed policyholders rank of prioritization of these factors.

Job Expectations and Salaries for BMW Mechanics

A BMW mechanic needs to understand the changing technology and processes associated with these German-manufactured vehicles. When a client seeks out a BMW mechanic, they’re doing so because they want a highly trained, highly skilled mechanic. There are greater expectations placed on a BMW mechanic than on a regular ASE-certified mechanic. Those expectations include:

  • Knowing how to diagnose the engine and electrical components
  • How to order the foreign parts in a timely manner
  • Completing the work efficiently with little to no problems.

These expectations come from both the client and the employer. However, with proper BMW training and education, most BMW mechanics don’t disappoint.

The duties of a BMW mechanic don’t differ too greatly from a regular mechanic. The only difference is that a BMW mechanic knows in detail how to repair and maintain all models of BMW. A dealership expects its BMW mechanics to know the computer that runs the car and keeps different components working correctly. While regular repair shops may have mechanics that specialize in transmissions or brakes, BMW mechanics must know all aspects of the vehicle. This doesn’t mean a BMW mechanic can’t focus on one part, but they should still know all aspects of repair on BMS vehicles.

Dealerships may expect mechanics to work an average of 40-hours per week. In some cases, BMW mechanics may work a 50-hour week and on some weekends. High-end or European repair shops may expect the BMW mechanics to become familiar with other European car manufacturers, so the repair shop can boast multi-skilled mechanics when marketing to clients. Employers may also want mechanics who are ASE certified and who may hold at least a two-year degree in automotive technology. The more education a BMW mechanic obtains, the more money they may request from the employer.

Salary ranges differ all over the country. While the average salary range for a general mechanic may be between $11 and $15 an hour, ta BMW mechanic may range between $15 and $20 an hour, depending on location. BMW mechanics who open their own repair shops may average much more because they aren’t losing any money off the hourly billable rate, unlike mechanics with dealerships and private repair shops. Any mechanic who completes repair work on the side may increase their yearly profits by $5,000 to $10,000 a year, depending on the amount of side jobs completed.

Master mechanics are the mechanics with extensive experience and years of dedication to the field. Master mechanics may earn well over $100,000 a year, sometimes up to $120,000 a year. However, these salary ranges aren’t the normal averages and exist only with a small percentage of BMW mechanics. There is a tiered rating system for BMW mechanics. A C-tech is the lowest tier, but may earn up to $40,000 a year. A B-tech may earn anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000 a year. An A-tech, otherwise known as a master mechanic, may earn up to $120,000 a year. A trainee may expect to earn anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000 a year, until the completion of BMW STEP training and certification.
