    Accelerator Pedal Sensors

The Accelerator Pedal sensor indicates the position of the accelerator on vehicle models with electronic throttle control. The APS is basically a throttle position sensor (TPS) with a pedal attached. A Standard Accelerator Pedal Sensors utilize drive-by-wire technology, consistently been first to market in this category and has the APS line to over 150 SKUs with an emphasis on the import applications. As a basic manufacturer, Standard has complete control of the manufacturing process from componentry to finished product. Standard pedal sensors maintain specific installed outputs to match OE rather than adjustable consolidated designs.

Each sensor undergoes rigorous end-of-line testing with thousands of data points to validate output voltages for optimum performance and trouble-free operation.

    Anti-Lock (ABS) Sensors

The anti-lock braking system uses an ABS or wheel sensor to monitor the wheel speed and send this information to the ABS computer. The ABS computer uses this information to prevent the brakes from locking during an emergency stop. If wheel speeds are not equal the computer modulates the anti-lock feature until the speeds are equalized. The ABS sensor is typically located in each wheel hub/rotor on a four channel ABS system. Some rear wheel drive applications have the sensor mounted in the rear differential. A failing sensor can illuminate the vehicle warning light or ABS warning lamp, and may cause failure of the anti-lock braking system to operate safely and properly.

As a basic manufacturer, Standard has complete control of the manufacturing process from componentry to finished product. The Standard ABS sensor line has complete coverage for domestic and import applications.

    Brake Pad Wear Sensors

The Brake Pad Wear sensor, or brake wear indicator, is an added safety feature on many vehicles used to warn a vehicle’s driver if their brake pad’s life becomes too low. Brake Pad Wear sensors are designed to “fail” as brake pads wear. They should be changed whenever the pads are replaced or when the vehicle’s warning light indicates.

Offered in our Intermotor brand, we have the most complete Brake Pad Wear Sensor line in the industry. These are direct OE replacements with perfect fit, finish and function for flawless operation. As a basic manufacturer, Intermotor has complete control of the manufacturing process from componentry to finished product.

    DIS Control Module

A distributorless ignition system (DIS) control module controls current flow to the coils. The DIS module processes sensor inputs about crankshaft position and engine speed to establish ignition timing and sequence.

Standard’s modules undergo extensive testing ensuring better quality, increased confidence, enhanced performance, and improved durability. Standard DIS modules are engineered with flip Chips to provide the best connections and are matched to the thermal expansion properties of our ceramic substrate eliminating failure due to broken connections between the chip and the board. We use double wire bonds to make better connections for greater dependability and longer life, despite intense vibration and other harsh conditions. All Standard DIS modules contain a copper slug heat sink that provides better heat dissipation to prevent damage to the module. The electronic suppression diode (ESD) protects the unit from voltage spikes that could destroy it. Standard’s comprehensive coverage provides the perfect form, fit and function demanded by today’s top technicians.

    Distributor Caps

A premium quality distributor cap could be the component your car needs. Standard distributor caps fit many vehicle makes and models and are equal to or better than the original. Standard caps are made of high dielectric strength, glass/mineral reinforced polyester resin for less carbon tracking, greater resistance to electrical breakdown, and superior performance. Solid brass terminals make better connections and greater resistance to electrical pitting and corrosion. Standard caps simply last longer and perform better. Our Standard distributor caps exhibit superior finishes and provide better ignition system performance. We offer high-quality distributor caps for your automotive needs.

    Used Cars In My Area

If you are in the market for a new or newer vehicle then you have so many options available. No matter if you favor domestic or imported models of vehicles, there is a vast amount of resources to obtain information about vehicles and where you can purchase them. For some consumers, purchasing a brand new vehicle is strictly out of the question either due to financial restraints or even their location; so inevitably, used cars are the next best thing to purchasing a newer vehicle.

There can be many advantages to purchasing a used car over a brand new vehicle. You will have to do your research in order to obtain the very best deal around when you are in the market for a newer vehicle. Benefits such as the manufacturer’s or purchasing an extended warranty, as well as additional options that are not included in the base models can help you make your final decision when browsing for a newer vehicle.

One of the most common choices that a consumer makes when searching for a used vehicle is examining the 3-year lease end models at the local dealership in their area. Having a 3-year lease gives the consumer a chance to see if they wish to purchase the vehicle permanently and if they don’t, they can return it to the dealership to try a newer model or something entirely different. Typically these lease buy-back vehicles have been used as either fleet vehicles, for rental cars or even for someone who has decided not to purchase their brand new vehicle after their lease has terminated.

When you are deciding on a used car, be sure to take a look at the extended warranty options that are available to you. Most used vehicles will not have much time left on their original manufacturer’s warranty and you may wish to purchase an extended warranty for your own security. For many used cars you will have an individualized warranty that guarantees your purchase from any large defects in the near future, but when looking for long-term security, obtaining an extended warranty may be your best bet.

If you find that time is against you and it is hard for you to travel from dealership to individual sellers, you can utilize the Internet as your largest resource for seeking out the used vehicle that you need. Being able to browse many websites such as local dealerships or even Ebay for your newer vehicle can help cut down the time you would spend running around in search of the vehicle you want.

Ebay has been dealing with online vehicle sales for quite some time now, and with fantastic success. Although just as anything you would purchase online, making a large vehicle purchase should be carefully considered. You can obtain information about vehicles both in your area as well as outside your local residence during your search. Depending on how you wish to proceed with the sale, for some, finding a vehicle close to home is the better choice in order to have a mechanical inspection conducted and all the necessary paperwork completed. No matter how you search for and purchase your vehicle, whether you use the Internet or just your local newspaper, be sure to check out all the available options for the best used car for you. Find a “used car in my area” here.

So how can you be sure that you are buying a quality used car? At RAC, we work hard to look after the best interests of our customers and we go to great lengths to make sure that the cars we list are of a high standard:

    • RAC Dealers provide a complimentary 3-month warranty and breakdown cover, while RAC Approved Dealers also prepare all of their vehicles to our specialised 82-point standard and provide a full history check
    • Our franchised dealers are associated with their respective manufacturers and maintain cars to franchise standards. There are also independent dealers who can be privately owned and may offer benefits such as warranties, breakdown cover and multi-point checks, so make sure you review this before you buy a new second hand car
    • RAC Cars also helps motorists connect to each other using our free private listings. To help provide additional confidence to buyers, we’ve also introduced the RAC Passport for sellers, which provides a history check of the car along with any significant warning, MOT details and service history, as well as an independent What Car? Review. Look out for private car listings that provide access to their Car Passport for added confidence about the car

Vehicle Inspection and car history checks

When you’re looking to buy a second hand car, it’s important to make sure there are no nasty surprises waiting for you after the sale, which is why doing a thorough vehicle inspection and checking the history of the car is so important. The RAC Car Passport is the most comprehensive vehicle check in the uk and will help you discover any discrepancies that might be hidden beneath the surface of the car’s history. it will tell you whether or not there’s any outstanding finance, if it’s been scrapped, written off, stolen or if we have found any mileage discrepancies.

In addition to the history of the car, you also need to make sure everything is in working order on the vehicle with a comprehensive inspection. It can be easy to be fooled into buying a faulty car if you’re not aware of the ways in which problems can be disguised. To help you when you’re looking at used cars, we’ve provided a little guidance below on things you can look for yourself, but if you need help in the process you can call on the RAC’s vehicle inspection service.

Start with the exterior. Check paintwork for consistency, as this can be a sign of repainting; bubbling also indicates rust. Check that all doors and windows open smoothly, and that tyres aren’t worn down on one side (possibly an uneven suspension).

On the inside of the car, you should check for signs of wear – this will probably go hand-in-hand with a high mileage, which might also show on the odometer. Test the car’s functionality, such as the seatbelts and all the electronics. Check to make sure that all of the warning lights work when you turn the engine on and that all of the lights work properly.

You can also check the fluid levels in the engine for oil, coolant, brakes and clutch. If they’re not topped up at the right level, you might want to ask yourself how long this has been the case and what damage might have been done as a result. You should also check to see if there are any leaks from the engine or gearbox.

It also important to weigh up some of the other options when choosing to buy a car too – such as how you are going to pay for it. There are a great deal of choices, like car loans and paying back in instalments, trading in your old vehicle for a discount, or temporary hire. you might also want to verify the going rate of a car before you buy it with the RAC Cars car valuation tool.

Not only do we now have access to a seemingly endless library of information on the subject, but there s also a variety online tools that make it easy to pinpoint the best deals on car insurance. Automobile insurance calculation programs, like the one on 4AutoInsuranceQuote.com, are one such tool.

What is a car insurance calculator?

The best way to explain how these babies work is to show you firsthand. Right at the top of this page is a tool you can use to calculate your insurance costs and to compare insurance quotes. You can try it out right now if you d like, and it only takes a few minutes. However if you aren t that adventurous, let me explain further, before you give it a test run.

Automobile insurance calculators are used to help consumers, like you, determine how much auto coverage you need. and what features are most appropriate for you. Better yet, you ll be connected with multiple car insurance providers, offering their most competitive rates.

    How Do They Work?

Insurance calculators were designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind so that everyone could use them. Within moments you ll end up a handful of highly qualified insurance providers to choose from, but first you need to tell the calculator what to look for.

1.Fill Out Our Short Form You ll then be asked to provide some very basic details about yourself, and it starts by entering your zip code above (five digits in the United States). This information will be used to determine state insurance requirements. and to match you with auto insurance companies, but local and national.

2.Compare Quotes – The insurance tool begins by creating an auto coverage package that fits your unique style and needs. With the best of the best to choose from, making a decision on auto insurance is stress-free.  After all, you can t go wrong if every insurance company you are comparing is both affordable and reputable!

3.Start Saving – You ll finally be presented with a handful of quotes. Special discounts, special features, and other savings will automatically figured into the price. With our car insurance calculator, it isn t unusual for drivers to save 30% or more on their auto insurance premiums.  You just have to test it out!

When car insurance companies have no choice but to offer you their best rates, you will save a lot of money.

    Recycled Auto Parts

The average automobile can have over 14,000 parts in it. Whenever a vehicle has reached the end of its useful life, either due to an accident or no longer being cost effective to maintain, the automobile will be taken to a salvage yard where it will be broke down and disassembled into its various parts.

Some used auto parts that have too much wear can be melted down and eventually made into new parts. However most parts are recycled and sold as used Factory Original Equipment manufactured OEM parts. The average part is designed from the factory to last for hundreds of thousands of miles before they reach the end of their life.

Many vehicles are wrecked and totaled early in their life cycle, leaving behind perfectly good OEM factory parts that can have years of service left in them. The best reason to purchase a recycled OEM part is that you are getting a part that was designed from the factory to fit and perform on your vehicle perfectly for pennies on the dollar compared to purchasing a new OEM part!

    Customer Service

Currently, I m trying to deal with this company. They have twice refused to pay my claim even though their insured driver ran into me. Also, they have only returned one of my numerous phone calls to them. I took my car to the nearest body shop affiliated with this company to have my car inspected as they directed me too. It was a 41 mile round trip. They took pictures of my car and determined that I had been struck in the right front side. However, this insurance company now claims they have a witness that states I ran into their insured driver. The police report clearly does not list the name of any witness or any witness statement. The law requires any witness s to an accident to identify themselves to the officers at the scene and give their statement.

My car has the passenger side door and fender completely caved in. It was so bad that I could only open my passenger side door about 8 to 10 inches. My passenger side front tire had the top Toe setting knocked -0.11 degrees off of what it should be (0.00 to 0.20 degrees is what it should be.) Also, there is a blue scrape across the tire indicating where it was struck. And, there is a blue scrape or scratch running the entire length of my passenger side fender and a dent in the top of my bumper where it was struck by his vehicle. It pushed my bumper down and into the tire so I could not drive my car until I pulled the bumper away from the tire.

The problem is that this accident happened as I was leaving a parking lot, so no tickets could be issued because we were on privet property. However, one of the officers at the scene told the other driver he was clearly at fault because the blue stripe running down the length of my fender clearly indicated he ran into me. Also, there was no damage to the front of my vehicle so I couldn t have possibly run into him as he stated.

They refuse to accept any of the physical evidence and still claim their witness verifies their insured driver s statement. This company has no morals, a complete disregard for the law, and lacks any ethical standards. I guess I have no recourse except to pursue legal options because they will not live up to their responsibilities.

    Minivan buying guide

    Getting started

As a category, minivans provide the most spacious, versatile, and cost-effective solution for families on the go, but the rise of car-based crossover vehicles has caused the minivan market to shrink in recent years. Many models have been discontinued, some have been redesigned and re-imagined, and those that march on are either quite traditional in design or are daring to be different in order to attract minivan-adverse customers. Minivans continue to improve in overall refinement while introducing clever packaging features and leading-edge entertainment solutions.

    Why buy a minivan?

    Key things to consider

    What you’ll spend

    Engines and fuel economy

    Seating

    Cargo

The versatile seating configurations of a minivan mean that nearly all of the space behind the front seats can be used for cargo, if needed. This is done with second- and third-row seats that are either removable or fold down into the floor. The most convenient type of third-row seat is one with a split design, so that one section can be folded down while allowing someone to sit in the other section. Some models have seats that fold electrically.

When comparing models, try removing and folding the various seats to see which designs are easier to lower, raise, and/or remove. In our testing, we find that there is a significant difference, and some seats may be too heavy or cumbersome for smaller adults to remove without assistance. Minivans also typically have wide rear openings and lower floors than SUVs, which make loading easier. They usually have maximum weight loads of 1,100 pounds or more, which is more than most SUVs have.

    Express Credit Auto

    By lerin.tilleyyy488 – 11/07/2014

    Rating: 1 / 5 1

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA — In September 2013, I had a car repossessed due to bad choices on my part. Knowing full and well I couldn’t finance another car through a reputable source, I went to ECA and purchased a 2007 Toyota Yaris for $9,996.00. My payment was $300.00 a month ($149.00/biweekly), and I was told that the reason the car was so high in price was due to the warranty.

After having my car for less than 30 days, the blower in the AC/heat went out. The warranty department fixed it for free, but dealing with the warranty department was a huge pain. You have to drop off your vehicle and be without a car for at least a day, which is terrible if you only have one car in the family. I had belt problems that always squealed when the weather was cool or moist, and I took it to ECA Warranty three separate times to have it fixed. I also had a mechanism in the fuel system leave me stranded on the side of the road once, and had to pay the $100.00 deductible to have it fixed through their warranty.

They put a GPS tracker in the vehicle, along with a kill switch. I was dedicated to never being behind on my car payments, so they were always withdrawn the same day I got paid so the money would always be there. One day, I stepped out of work to go to lunch and my car was dead. Originally I thought it was the battery, but I called ECA anyway to see if it had been shut off on their end. When I talked to her, I asked if, for some reason, my last payment hadn’t gone through (even though it showed up on my bank statement) and she said, “Yeah, but we just had a glitch so it shut down your car.”

I asked why I hadn’t been notified earlier about the glitch, and she said, “Well, you know now.” So basically, even though I’d made every payment and never been at all late, my car was deactivated. I called back later and asked to speak to the manager, and I was rebuffed and told that I had no reason to complain because my car was back on.

I talked to my bank and they agreed to refinance my auto loan at a much lower rate (I went from 23% to 8.49, which is wonderful for someone with a discharged Ch. 7). I called and asked for a payout, which was faxed to me. I was sick that week, so I never made it to the bank and another car payment went through. The next week, I called again requesting an updated 10 day payout. He started to verbally tell me the payout, and when I asked for a written payout, he rudely refused. I said, “I have a payout that was faxed to me two weeks ago, I don’t understand why I can’t get an updated payout,” and he said, “Whoever sent you that shouldn’t have, I can’t send you another one.”

I asked how I was supposed to give my bank the information when they needed it in written form, and he said, “Uh, you just use the old one?” in a very condescending manner. I told him the old one was no longer accurate in terms of my balance, and he said that wasn’t his problem. So I got frustrated and hung up. He called me back shortly and told me that even though it wasn’t his problem, he would email me my payout “just this once”. Finally, I got the stupid thing in writing.

Today, I called their finance office to see about dropping off the check for the full amount. They told me to drop it off at the branch from which I bought the car. My loan manager at my bank then did so at 11:30 a.m. I called ECA at 1:00 p.m. to make sure the check had been received, and was told that the check was supposed to be dropped off at their headquarters, which is across town.

No one told me this information before that phone call. I have a car payment scheduled to be auto withdrawn this Saturday, and I was told it would take 3 days to cancel the auto withdrawal feature. I asked them if I would receive a refund for the $149.00, since that payment would technically be an overpayment once the bank’s check is processed, and she said, “Maybe.”

Overall, I knew what I was getting into when buying a car from them. They Target a very shady demographic of people that are bad with money, so it makes sense to overcharge so they aren’t losing money. That being said, I had a naive thought that they would treat me with respect because I pay my bill on time, I keep insurance on my car, and I give them no issues. Never have I been late on a payment, never have I let my insurance lapse, and never have I done anything to warrant being treated with a lack of respect.

Despite all of this, I still got to experience having my car deactivated due to a “glitch”. Imagine trying your hardest to pay all your bills on time and be a perfect consumer and being punished by your car not turning on. I was at work, my car wouldn’t start, and I was horrified people would think it was because I was irresponsible. There is no reason for ECA to have such terrible customer service. There is no reason why people that are following the rules should be made to feel so small and humiliated.

If you are in the terrible position of buying a car from them, hear me now: finance with them, then try your hardest to get the loan refinanced somewhere else. They will treat you like crap once they realize you won’t be giving them that 18-23% anymore, but you will be free.

    Consumer Complaints Reviews

Most recently, I bought two batteries for my truck. The batteries are dead in just one year. My employee took the truck to AutoZone to swap the batteries under warranty. They insisted on having a phone number. I said “you acknowledge it’s your battery, right? and you see the date on the batteries are just from a year ago right?” He said it didn’t matter and he needed the phone number. I wasn’t there so I was rattling off all of the phone numbers we have for the store, my cell, my home, our pseudo number, etc. none of them was coming up. Before my employee left, but was in the parking lot, he said, “was Tim working for you then?” so he went back in and tried an old employee’s phone number. Still no luck. So they basically say “** you, we know it’s our bad battery but if you can’t come up with a receipt or phone number, we won’t honor it.”

In a separate incident several years ago my friend and I were working on his brakes. He took his rotors in to have them turned and we went to eat lunch. When we got back an hour later, they hadn’t done and it and said “we can’t turn them because they’re too thin.” I asked him “what’s the specs? let me see how you measured it.” He gets the micrometer out and shows me the thickness. I said, “that’s not how you read that thing.” He didn’t know he was talking to two engineers. So either he was totally incompetent or he was scamming everyone. It’s possibly a company policy, but he sure was confident in his scam. And he was completely embarrassed when I showed him how to read the micrometer. We took the rotors to Oreilly down the road.

Where to find a used car in Germany

by Christina Geyer on February 10, 2008 14 comments

I am in no way an expert on purchasing a car, so all I m doing is giving you some tips on locating used cars that are for sale. First, if you require an automatic, your pickings will be much slimmer, and with larger cars, generally limited to the luxury models. This was my experience when we were looking for a station wagon. Most Germans drive cars with manual transmissions. It s that whole Fahrvergnügen-joy of driving thing. I wasn t able to learn to drive stick, but maybe you can, so try, then try another time just to be sure.

    1. Check your local newspaper s website. There is generally a section called Auto or Gebrauchtwagen that is searchable. Here s Mittelbayrisches Zeitung s site as an example. Also try the second-hand paper for your area. You ll find the biggest bargains in these, since most private sellers will only advertise here.
    2. Try one of the major Internet auto search engines: AutoScout24.de (Europe-wide) and Auto.de. Mobile.de. or Pkw.de (Germany-wide). There are a few private individuals selling their cars on these sites, but it s mostly dealers.
    3. Check car manufacturer websites. They often list the used cars available at their dealerships. You re looking for Gebrauchtwagen or Gebrauchtwagenbörse. Here s Renault s site as an example. You ll want to search all the different car makers that are in your area, since these are cars that have been traded in and will be of all different makes, models, and years.
    4. Last, and possibly least, is to make the trek to all the dealerships in your area and check out what they have on their lots. They don t always list everything on the websites, and sometimes you ll luck out and find a car that was just brought in. Also, you can tell them your criteria and have them call you if something comes in that fits it. Make sure you check the opening hours of the dealerships. Many close at 6pm on weekdays and are only open in the mornings on Saturdays.

In the end, it s a very time consuming process. CarMax type used car lots haven t really caught on here, although I ve heard rumor that there are a few popping up in the former East and in the very north. So if you live in those areas, you might want to check the Gelbe Seiten (German Yellow Pages) for Gebrauchtwagen in your area.

Anyone else have a tip I ve missed?

Tips on Finding the Best Auto Loan Rates

How to Find the Best Car Loan Rates

Finding the best auto loan rates hasn t been easier than it is today, especially if you have excellent credit. An October, 2012 report by Automotive News said that banks are charging U.S. buyers the lowest interest rates on new-car loans since the Federal Reserve began surveying them in 1971. Additionally, Comerica Bank s Q2 2012 Auto Affordability Index shows that new vehicles are more affordable for the average American household than they ve been since the early 1980s.

These trends, my friends, indicate a buyer s market. Quite literally, there hasn t been a better time to buy a new car. truck, or SUV since I was in junior high school.

As favorable as market conditions might be, getting the best car loan rates still requires some effort on the buyer s part, unless, of course, you re taking advantage of a 0% financing opportunity. Rates don t get any lower than that.

If your credit isn t perfect, or the vehicle you want to buy isn t available with zero-interest financing, you ll need to shop around for the best auto loan rates. On the pages that follow, we ll provide useful tips on finding the best auto loan rates.

    Know Your Credit Score

Tip #1: Know Your Credit Score

Before you shop for the best auto loan rates, it s helpful to know exactly what s on your credit report, and what your credit score is. There are three primary credit-reporting agencies in U.S. Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union and they are required by law to provide consumers with one free credit report each year.

To obtain your free credit reports, it isn t necessary to contact each credit-reporting agency individually. Simply visit AnnualCreditReport.com and you can make a single request for all three reports.

When your credit reports arrive in the mail, be sure to review them closely. If you find errors, be sure to file an individual dispute for every error discovered, and do this as soon as is possible. According to federal law, the credit reporting agencies have 30 days to verify whether the information on your report is accurate, or they must remove it from your record.

Now that you know what your credit report contains, and what your credit score is, you re ready to try our tips for finding the best auto loan rates.

Shopping Lenders for the Best Auto Loan Rates

Tip #2: Shop a Network of Lenders

Rather than approach financial institutions individually to discern the best car loan rates, try shopping for the best auto loan rates through a network of lenders, such as Lending Tree. With a company like Lending Tree, consumers can submit a request for a car loan and obtain the best car loan rates from several financial institutions.

Approaching the task in this fashion saves time, and can quickly help a consumer find a competitive rate that serves as a benchmark for further competitive shopping.

Tip #3: Shop Your Current Bank or Credit Union

Once you know what the best auto loan rates are through a lending network, its worthwhile to visit the local branch of your existing bank or credit union to see if they can offer you a better rate. Be sure to take the best existing offer you have along for the visit, and ask your financial institution if they can beat your best deal.

Oftentimes, because they re more familiar with your finances and bill-paying history, your existing bank can work with you to provide the best auto loan rates.

Shopping Dealers for the Best Auto Loan Rates

    Tip #4: Shop the Dealer

Car dealers have access to a wide variety of finance options, and can often provide you with the best auto loan rates. However, your chances of getting a great interest rate are improved if you walk through the door pre-approved with a loan because the dealer and its network of financial institutions will know that you re credit-worthy, and they ll know what rate they need to beat to win your business.

And if they can t, don t worry about it. If you ve followed our tips on finding the best auto loan rates, you ve arrived at the dealership with a pre-approved loan that already meets your requirements.

Quality Canadian Service for Classic GM Auto Parts, Worldwide

The idea of collecting classic GM parts & accessories for resale was conceived in the fall of 1979. That’s when Dave and his wife, Jan, first set foot on Vancouver Island after a 3500 mile move from Kitchener, Ontario. Dave had to sell his restored ’66 Beaumont and leave it behind in order to drive his overpacked ’62 Dodge panel show truck across the country.

It was a long drive for Dave because all he could think about was his ’66 Beaumont. I shouldn’t have sold it , I’ll never find another one , Old cars are impossible to find . Well, within 7 days of arriving in Victoria, B.C. (before Dave even found a home to move into) Dave had already purchased a ’67 Beaumont, ’60 Impala and a ’64 Malibu.

Cool old cars were just sitting around everywhere, and Dave just had to do something about that. At first he bought classic GM cars that needed a little TLC, fixed them, detailed them, then sold them. It was always nice to have a ‘few’ parts cars in the yard to pillage from, but he noticed that more and more people were coming to see him for a fender or a radio or a 327, and that’s when the light went on!

    100% Satisfaction Guarantee

Guys like classic cars, guys buy classic cars, guys need classic car parts and now, 30 years later, nothing has changed. Dave still sells fenders and radios and 327’s and a whole bunch more, but with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Customer satisfaction is crucial. That’s why with every part inquiry, the condition of that part is explained to the customer in exact accurate detail BEFORE it’s sent so there are no surprises. It’s hassle free and guaranteed. That’s why we’re still Canada’s car enthusiast #1 choice for all their classic GM restoration needs.

The History of the Automobile – Steam Cars #denver #auto #auction

    Inventors

The automobile as we know it was not invented in a single day by a single inventor. The history of the automobile reflects an evolution that took place worldwide. It is estimated that over 100,000 patents created the modern automobile. However, we can point to the many firsts that occurred along the way. Starting with the first theoretical plans for a motor vehicle that had been drawn up by both Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton.

In 1769, the very first self-propelled road vehicle was a military tractor invented by French engineer and mechanic, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot (1725 – 1804). Cugnot used a steam engine to power his vehicle, built under his instructions at the Paris Arsenal by mechanic Brezin. It was used by the French Army to haul artillery at a whopping speed of 2 1/2 mph on only three wheels. The vehicle had to stop every ten to fifteen minutes to build up steam power. The steam engine and boiler were separate from the rest of the vehicle and placed in the front (see engraving above). The following year (1770), Cugnot built a steam-powered tricycle that carried four passengers.

In 1771, Cugnot drove one of his road vehicles into a stone wall, making Cugnot the first person to get into a motor vehicle accident. This was the beginning of bad luck for the inventor. After one of Cugnot’s patrons died and the other was exiled, the money for Cugnot’s road vehicle experiments ended.

Steam engines powered cars by burning fuel that heated water in a boiler, creating steam that expanded and pushed pistons that turned the crankshaft, which then turned the wheels. During the early history of self-propelled vehicles – both road and railroad vehicles were being developed with steam engines. (Cugnot also designed two steam locomotives with engines that never worked well.) Steam engines added so much weight to a vehicle that they proved a poor design for road vehicles; however, steam engines were very successfully used in locomotives. Historians, who accept that early steam-powered road vehicles were automobiles, feel that Nicolas Cugnot was the inventor of the first automobile.

After Cugnot Several Other Inventors Designed Steam-Powered Road Vehicles

    • Cugnot’s vehicle was improved by Frenchman, Onesiphore Pecqueur, who also invented the first differential gear.
    • In 1789, the first U.S. patent for a steam-powered land vehicle was granted to Oliver Evans .
    • In 1801, Richard Trevithick built a road carriage powered by steam – the first in Great Britain.
    • In Britain, from 1820 to 1840, steam-powered stagecoaches were in regular service. These were later banned from public roads and Britain’s railroad system developed as a result.
    • Steam-driven road tractors (built by Charles Deitz) pulled passenger carriages around Paris and Bordeaux up to 1850.
    • In the United States, numerous steam coaches were built from 1860 to 1880. Inventors included: Harrison Dyer, Joseph Dixon, Rufus Porter, and William T. James.
    • Amedee Bollee Sr. built advanced steam cars from 1873 to 1883. The “La Mancelle” built in 1878, had a front-mounted engine, shaft drive to the differential, chain drive to the rear wheels, steering wheel on a vertical shaft and driver’s seat behind the engine. The boiler was carried behind the passenger compartment.
    • In 1871, Dr. J. W. Carhart, professor of physics at Wisconsin State University, and the J. I. Case Company built a working steam car that won a 200-mile race.

    Early Electric Cars

Steam engines were not the only engines used in early automobiles. Vehicles with electrical engines were also invented. Between 1832 and 1839 (the exact year is uncertain), Robert Anderson of Scotland invented the first electric carriage. E lectric cars used rechargeable batteries that powered a small electric motor. The vehicles were heavy, slow, expensive, and needed to stop for recharging frequently. Both steam and electric road vehicles were abandoned in favor of gas-powered vehicles. Electricity found greater success in tramways and streetcars. where a constant supply of electricity was possible.

    The truth about extended warranties

If you buy a new smartphone, tablet, computer, TV or even car stereo, it’s very likely the sales person will try to sell you an extended warranty. You never know when something terrible might happen to your gadget, after all.

It’s no secret that extended warranties are a money-maker for stores, otherwise they wouldn’t push them so hard. But does that mean that they’re a bad deal for you? It depends on a number of factors that we’ll look at. There are also some alternatives to in-store extended warranties you should know.

    Alternatives

Before you even consider any extended warranty, check with your credit card company. It might give you an extended warranty or extra benefits automatically when you buy with certain cards. Some cards will extend the manufacturer’s warranty another full year.

You also might want to shop around for the item you want. Some stores will throw in an extended warranty or extend the factory warranty for free when you buy from them. It’s a good way to get extra protection without paying.

Autos.com editors have compiled the most extensive rating database on the internet, drawing upon $20 million of automotive research from CarsDirect and Autodata, and summarizing expert opinion from an extensive group of the leading third party sources. Here is a brief overview of how we do it:

Professional Reviews Ranking: Autos.com editors analyze car reviews from a range of magazines and websites, distill each down to a quantifiable ranking and then average those rankings to arrive at the Professional Review Rank.

Other Rankings: Autos.com also ranks vehicles based on criteria such as fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and comfort and convenience features. You can see some of the data that we have used to rate each vehicle in any given category by expanding the category header on the vehicle detail page. For example, click on the arrow next to “Passenger Space” on the Honda Civic detail page to see the actual measurements for that vehicle’s interior. These measurements were stacked up against the interior measurements of all the other vehicles in the compact car segment in order to calculate the Honda Civic’s rating in the Passenger Space category. That rating is then used to determine the Honda Civic’s overall ranking in the compact car category.

    The Best Car Diagnostic Tool

    Promoted by

    Car MD

Car MD has some good features to offer in the way of auto diagnostics. Trouble codes can be uploaded to a personal computer through the Car MD website. This website reads the codes and provides recommendations, lists of parts needed, and an estimated cost of labor and repair.

Car MD could be a shady used car salesman’s worst nightmare. It can be plugged into any vehicle that was made in 1996 or later. Run a diagnostic test on a used car before buying.

Prices are always subject to change but right now the Car MD website is offering this product for around $100 (CarMD.com, 2009).

Reports by the nonprofit agency ConsumerReports.org reveal that while this tool does work as promised and is a value at the price, consumers will get more out of similar but more expensive diagnostic tools (ConsumerReports.org, 2007).

    Pocket Scan

The Pocket Scan CP9125 made by Actron is at present a bit more expensive than Car MD but according to ConsumerReports.org it is a better diagnostic tool. Its superiority comes from the fact that, in addition to running diagnostic tests and making the results understandable for a novice, it is also capable of resetting the “check engine” light. Car MD does not offer this feature. This tool is on the smaller side which makes it easier to fit into place on some vehicles.

    Innova 3130

The Innova 3130 scan tool is at the high end of the price scale. This is a volatile and fairly new business model, so prices could change radically in the future, particularly given the current car market, but the creator of this tool is currently selling it for around $300 (Equus.com, 2009). One of the features that makes this device worth the price is the all-in-one display screen. The manual is available for online viewing prior to purchase and it comes with an instructional DVD. This unit can be updated through a personal computer.

The bargain ‘second-hand’ cars with no previous owner

By Theo Leggett Business reporter, BBC News

    9 May 2014

Buying a car can be exciting, but it can also be quite a headache.

One of the big choices facing buyers is whether to get something new, or a used model with a few miles on the clock.

It is a shiny silver Renault Megane, registered in 2014, and it has just six miles on the clock.

Is the car going to be right for you – is it going do the job you want it to do? And how much is it going to cost? Ian Crowder, AA Cars

There isn’t a fleck of dirt on it, the interior still has that unique new car smell, and its tyres have barely kissed the tarmac.

Yet as far as the motor trade is concerned, the Renault is a used vehicle, and it has a price tag to match.

It is on the market for £12,999, several thousand pounds less than you’d normally expect to pay for a new model.

Bargains like this can be found quite easily, if you know where to find them – and if you are willing to make certain compromises.

    New or used?

Research recently carried out by the AA suggests three-quarters of drivers plan to buy a new set of wheels within the next five years.

For many people, the choice will ultimately boil down to cost.

“A lot of care needs to be taken,” warns Ian Crowder of AA cars.

“Is the car going to be right for you – is it going do the job you want it to do? And how much is it going to cost? It’s important to think about your budget and how you’re going to pay for it.”

“And how long do you plan to keep it? That might dictate whether you go for a new car or a used one,” he says.

There are big advantages to owning a car that has never been driven.

It is less likely to go wrong, and if it does, the manufacturer will sort it out under warranty.

You know its history, and you are unlikely to find any nasty surprises.

There is a catch though. Not only are new cars more expensive to buy, they also lose their value very quickly. In fact they can be worth up to 40% less the moment you drive them away from the dealership.

    New ‘in effect’

Yet there are circumstances in which it can cost you less – over time – to buy a new car than a used model.

It may be the case, for example, if you are planning to pay for it on credit.

This is because manufacturers frequently offer low-cost or interest-free loans on new cars, along with other incentives which may not be available for used car sales.

A recent survey by What Car? Magazine suggests that, over a three-year period, new cars bought using a standard hire purchase agreement, or under a Personal Contract Purchase, can end up cheaper than used models about half of the time.

This doesn’t mean that new cars are actually cheaper of course, simply that there are good funding deals to be had, and that credit for used cars is often more expensive.

Nevertheless it is entirely possible to buy a car that is, in effect, new, for the price of a second-hand model.

Image caption Motor dealer Lee Arnold says buying “nearly new” can offer huge savings

    ‘Massive savings’

Which brings me back to that Renault.

The silver Megane is what is known as a “nearly new” or pre-registered car. It was first registered by a franchised dealer, who wanted to boost his sales figures in order to pick up lucrative incentives from the manufacturer.

In effect, the dealer bought the car himself.

“For us, our best customers are people who buy second-hand or nearly new vehicles”, says Lee Arnold, general manager of Motorpoint in Peterborough.

“If you don’t mind being the second owner of the vehicle, you can have massive savings off the retail price,” he says.

There is a catch of course. When you buy a pre-registered car, as Mr Arnold points out, you will be listed on the registration document as the second owner, which could affect the value when you come to sell it.

If it is a few months old, the warranty will be that bit shorter as well.

There is also less choice; you have to accept what is available, and may not be able to get the precise model you want.

But if you are not worried about the colour or the number of cup-holders, there are some good deals to be had.

The key, when you’re thinking about buying a car, is always to do your research first. That way you could end up driving off with a bargain – and avoid any nasty surprises.

Thai auto insurance startup Claim Di pulls in US$2M Series A funding e27 Thursday, 26 November, 2015

Malaysia, South Korea and Japan among its primary expansion targets; aims tenfold revenue growth to US$5.6 million in a year

Claim Di. a Thai startup whose eponymous mobile app facilitates drivers’ insurance claims and communication between them and their insurance companies, has secured US$2 million in Series A funding, according to an official release today.

The dtac Accelerate 2014 winner held a press conference on Tuesday announcing the news.

The round was led by CyberAgent Ventures. Other investors included Golden Gate Ventures. 500 Startups. and dtac Accelerate. It is the largest-ever Series A funding by a Thai startup.

But with GGV’s seven-digit figure (exact amount undisclosed) Series B investment into Thailand-based online payment gateway company Omise.co last month. it might not actually be the largest funding round by a Thai startup as claimed.

Kittinan Anuphan, the CEO of Anywhere 2 Go (Claim Di’s developer), said that the funding will be used for software development, marketing, and launching new services to drive domestic and global expansion.

“Claim Di has all the qualities that investors want to see in startups: a simple but effective product, being in the right industry at the right time with a significant growth potential, and world-class innovation,” said Thanachat Tangsriwong, Thailand Investment Manager of CyberAgent Ventures.

The three new services that Claim Di will be launching are Claim Di Assist (a roadside assistance service for drivers), Claim Di Call (an outsourced call service for insurance companies), and Claim Di Bike (a car-accident survey service under and individual-model basis, to facilitate accident surveyors in terms of payment and benefits for policy-holder claimants).

Claim Di is eyeing to penetrate the markets of Malaysia, Laos, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Japan. Malaysia and South Korea or Japan are “primary foreign targets” because of the similarity of the size of their auto insurance markets to Thailand while being “among the largest in Asia”.

If Claim Di’s expansion takes after the quick and easy nature of the “Shake and Go” feature on their app — allowing two parties in an auto accident to make an insurance claim without waiting for a surveyor from their respective insurance companies to arrive at the scene — then it might not be too long before unfortunate drivers in the region who meet with accidents can save themselves some inconvenience with Claim Di’s services.

Anywhere 2 Go reportedly expects the funding to help Claim Di achieve ten-fold revenue growth from this year’s estimated US$560,000 to US$5.6 million in 2016.

46a. The Age of the Automobile

Cruising in automobiles such as the Duesenberg pictured above was popular in America, but this typically Sunday afternoon family past time was largely discontinued during the depression.

Perhaps no invention affected American everyday life in the 20th century more than the automobile.

Although the technology for the automobile existed in the 19th century, it took Henry Ford to make the useful gadget accessible to the American public. Ford used the idea of the assembly line for automobile manufacturing. He paid his workers an unprecedented $5 a day when most laborers were bringing home two, hoping that it would increase their productivity. Furthermore, they might use their higher earnings to purchase a new car.

Ford reduced options, even stating that the public could choose whatever color car they wanted so long as it was black. The Model T sold for $490 in 1914, about one quarter the cost of the previous decade. By 1920, there were over 8 million registrations. The 1920s saw tremendous growth in automobile ownership, with the number of registered drivers almost tripling to 23 million by the end of the decade.

    Economic Spin-offs

The growth of the automobile industry caused an economic revolution across the United States. Dozens of spin-off industries blossomed. Of course the demand for vulcanized rubber skyrocketed. Road construction created thousands of new jobs, as state and local governments began funding highway design.

    Motorsports Hall of Fame

The famous ‘Ford 999’ racer from 1902. Although it is not the first race car ever built, it is certainly the first car to rise to the status of legend.

Even the federal government became involved with the Federal Highway Act of 1921. Gas stations began to dot the land, and mechanics began to earn a living fixing the inevitable problems. Oil and steel were two well-established industries that received a serious boost by the demand for automobiles. Travelers on the road needed shelter on long trips, so motels began to line the major long-distance routes.

Even cuisine was transformed by the automobile. The quintessential American foods hamburgers, french fries, milk shakes, and apple pies were hallmarks of the new roadside diner. Drivers wanted cheap, relatively fast food so they could be on their way in a hurry. Unfortunately, as new businesses flourished, old ones decayed. When America opted for the automobile, the nation’s rails began to be neglected. As European nations were strengthening mass transit systems, individualistic Americans invested in the automobile infrastructure.

    Effects of the Automobile

The social effects of the automobile were as great. Freedom of choice encouraged many family vacations to places previously impossible. Urban dwellers had the opportunity to rediscover pristine landscapes, just as rural dwellers were able to shop in towns and cities. Teenagers gained more and more independence with driving freedom. Dating couples found a portable place to be alone as the automobile helped to facilitate relaxed sexual attitudes.

Americans experienced traffic jams for the first time, as well as traffic accidents and fatalities. Soon demands were made for licensure and safety regulation on the state level. Despite the drawbacks, Americans loved their cars. As more and more were purchased, drivers saw their worlds grow much larger.

    Suzuki Cars

Suzuki was established in 1909 by Michio Suzuki as Suzuki Loom Works, producing looms and weaving machines for the Japanese silk industry. While Suzuki had a highly successful business, he knew that the company would have to diversify if it was to continue. He decided that he would enter the automobile market, and in 1937, began the development of his first prototype vehicles.

    Suzuki After World War II

World War II put a halt to all major civilian car production as the Japanese government deemed them to be non-essential commodities. This stopped Suzuki’s plans until after the war and the company went back to producing looms full time. When the cotton market collapsed in 1951, Suzuki turned his thoughts back to motor vehicles, both motorcycles and lightweight cars. In 1954, the company changed its name to the Suzuki Motor Company, Ltd. in line with its change in industry focus.

For several years, Suzuki successfully produced motorcycles before launching its first car, the Suzuki Suzulight. This car was sold only in Japan and was produced from 1955 until 1969. In 1963, Suzuki opened a sales subsidiary in Los Angeles under the company name, U.S. Suzuki Motor Corporation. As this was a direct sales subsidiary of the parent company, any Suzuki vehicles sold in America were imported and not built in the U.S.

    Suzuki in America

In 1985, the Suzuki of America Automotive Corporation was established. With the formation of this company, Suzuki launched the Samurai, the first vehicle officially marketed by Suzuki in the U.S. While this was a new car in the U.S. market, Suzuki was producing them since 1968. The Samurai, or the SJ413 as it was known in other markets, was classed as a mini SUV. It had seating for two and came in a convertible or hardtop version. This vehicle was extremely popular due to its excellent off-road performance and reliability. The Samurai was withdrawn from American and Canadian markets in 1995 and replaced by the Suzuki Sidekick.

In 1986, the American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) was created through the merger of Suzuki of America Automotive Corporation and the U.S. Suzuki Motor Corporation. Prior to the official launch of the Samurai, Suzuki had been selling a version of its Cultus model as the Chevrolet Sprint through an agreement with General Motors in 1985. It was a three-door hatchback and was the smallest model available from Chevrolet. The ASMC released the second generation of the Cultus as the Suzuki Swift in 1989.

    Suzuki Models

The Swift was launched in 1990 as a three- or five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan version. The Cultus was replaced by the first generation of Suzuki Swifts in 2000. Both three- and five-door hatchback versions were available with automatic or manual transmission. The Swift was launched at the same time as the Suzuki Sidekick, which had a two-door convertible or hardtop off-road vehicle. In 1991, a four-door version was also released. The Sidekick underwent a facelift in 1996 and a Sport version was launched at this time. The Sidekick Sport was short lived and replaced by the Grand Vitara in 1999, which is currently in its third generation.

The Suzuki Esteem was launched by the ASMC in 1995 to replace the Swift four-door sedan. In 1996, a station wagon version of the Esteem was introduced to the market. These were short-lived vehicles as they were replaced in 2002 by the Aerio that had a four-door sedan and a five-door crossover SUV variation with all-wheel drive. In 2001, the Swift was dropped from the North American market. The launch of the SX4 ended production of the Aerio.

    Suzuki Products and Technologies

The current models available from Suzuki include the Kizashi, SX4, Grand Vitara and Equator. The Kizashi is a midsize four-door sedan that has been available since 2010. In Japanese, Kizashi means warning or omen, so it is thought that this name was used as a means of suggesting that great things are coming from Suzuki. It is currently the company’s flagship sedan.

The Suzuki SX4 is available in three different versions: the sedan, sportback and all-wheel drive crossover. Originally developed as a compact car, the SX4 was first released as a five-door hatchback. The SX4 sedan has a more aerodynamic shape, compared to the sportback and crossover version. The other two versions are five-door hatchbacks. The sportback version went through cosmetic changes, as well as being lower on its suspension than the all-wheel drive version.

The Equator is a midsized pickup truck that is sold by Suzuki, but assembled by Nissan. It is available as a two-door or four-door crew cab version and has been on the market since 2009.

    Suzuki Air Traiser

Minivans are not often thought of as being particularly cool. The result has been a decline in sales as the many image-conscious parents out there flock to crossovers instead. As a result, minivan concept vehicles are often completely bonkers, as carmakers clearly hope that going so far in the other direction will inspire buyers to reconsider the segment. It never really seems to work but it s hugely entertaining to watch, and the new Air Triser concept from Suzuki exemplifies everything that makes wacky minivan concepts so great.

The concept is being unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, as a part of the “Suzuki Next 100” theme for the carmaker s booth. Since Suzuki s 100th anniversary is coming up in 2020, it is using this opportunity to show off a bit of what is said to make up the lineup for the outset of the next 100 years. The concepts are therefore wild and futuristic, although they are simultaneously retro in their design. This is seen especially in the front fascia of the Air Triser. But unlike the Mighty Deck concept, which is clearly just an updated version of the Mighty Boy kei car, the Air Triser isn t made to look like anything specific from Suzuki s past.

    2015 Suzuki Mighty Deck Concept

The Tokyo Motor Show is one of the more entertaining in the automotive world. The show concentrates primarily on the Japanese domestic market, so although the cars shown there might not be especially relevant to the rest of the world, they are a great way to see something different from the kinds of concepts that we ll be seeing, say, at the Detroit Auto Show. We also get to see some cars from manufacturers that sell cars in North America, of which Suzuki is now one. The carmaker will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2020, and it brought a handful of concepts to the Tokyo show what is planned for the next 100 years.

    Read more Suzuki history

Born in Japan, Suzuki is an automaker that has made a name for itself by crafting vehicles that emphasize value and affordability. Through the years, the brand’s lineup has included sedans, wagons and SUVs. However, in late 2012 the company decided to stop selling new vehicles in the United States.

The company was founded by Michio Suzuki in 1909 as Suzuki Loom Works. By the 1950s, its focus had expanded beyond just loom machines to include both motorcycles and automobiles. In 1955, it rolled out the Suzulight, a compact car that proved to be a harbinger of a new era of Japanese lightweight vehicles. The automaker expanded its lineup to include a truck in 1961. Like its sibling, the tiny Suzulight Carry pickup distinguished itself with its featherweight specification. By the end of the decade, the Suzuki lineup had grown to include the Fronte passenger car, the subcompact Fronte 800 and the Carry Van full-cab van.

In 1970, Suzuki rolled out the Jimny, a four-wheel-drive sport-utility vehicle that resembled a playful version of the Jeep CJ-5. The automaker’s roster continued to grow throughout this decade, with the addition of the Alto and the subcompact LJ80.

The 1980s saw Suzuki partnering with General Motors when GM acquired a 5 percent stake in the company. GM made this move partially in response to the growing popularity of subcompacts in the U.S. market. After the purchase, Suzuki products were rebadged and sold as GM vehicles on American shores.

In 1985, the carmaker launched an American outpost, and for the first time, Suzuki-branded vehicles became available in the U.S. The company’s first model was the Samurai; available as either a convertible or a hardtop, this compact SUV met with immediate success. However, the Samurai’s glory days were short-lived.

In 1988, Consumer Reports published an article in which it deemed the Samurai unsafe, saying it was more likely than most to roll over during certain maneuvers. Suzuki took the magazine to court (and eventually won) but the bad publicity from the article cast a pall on the Samurai that never quite lifted. Suzuki soldiered on, though. By the end of the decade its total aggregate car production had topped 10 million units, and its line had grown to include the compact Swift and the Sidekick, a compact SUV.

During the ’90s, Suzuki expanded its reach to include territories like Egypt, Vietnam and Hungary, and launched new models like the Cappuccino convertible and the lightweight Wagon R. On U.S. soil, Suzuki rolled out the Esteem, dropped the beleaguered Samurai, introduced the two-seat, T-topped X-90 and replaced the Sidekick with the Vitara and Grand Vitara.

Suzuki and General Motors purchased ailing Daewoo in 2004, and two of that manufacturer’s vehicles were rebadged and given new life as Suzukis. The Suzuki Forenza and Suzuki Verona both had former lives as Daewoo cars.

Through the first decade of the 2000s, Suzuki continued to evolve and improve its models, culminating in the Kizashi, a midsize sedan that was good enough to challenge segment front runners. But with overall sales and consumer interest stuck on a downward trend, Suzuki finally announced bankruptcy and termination of its U.S. vehicle operations in late 2012. The company plans to honor existing warranties, and some Suzuki dealers will continue to provide parts and service.
