Black Belt vs Green Belt

Filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in Illinois: What You Need to Know #northern #district #of #illinois #bankruptcy

#

The Bankruptcy Process in Chicago is Different Than Other Cities

Are you considering filing for bankruptcy in the Chicago area? Don t assume that the process will be little more than filling out some boilerplate forms. Many people mistakenly believe that filing for bankruptcy is the same throughout the country. While there is uniformity to the process based on the fact that the bankruptcy code is federal law, the process can vary greatly by state. Filing for bankruptcy in Illinois is much different than filing in Texas. This is the case because state law has a big impact on the type and amount of property you can keep. Each state. as well as the federal government, has enacted exemption laws that designate certain types of property as off limits to creditors. Creditors cannot take your exempt property regardless of how much you owe them. The same principle applies in bankruptcy. The bankruptcy trustee cannot take your exempt property. In fact, most people who file Chapter 7 bankruptcy are pleasantly surprised to learn that all of their property is exempt.

Illinois Bankruptcy Exemptions

Illinois is what is known as an opt out state, meaning federal exemptions are not available to Illinois debtors. If you re filing bankruptcy in Illinois, you ll need to use Illinois exemptions. Be aware that a recent move can impact the laws that apply to your bankruptcy case. For example, if you ve just moved to Chicago for a job, your previous state s laws may apply. For more information, see this post: Moving and Bankruptcy Law. If you ve lived in Illinois for more than two years, the IL state bankruptcy exemptions will apply to your case. Be prepared, they re not overly generous. Illinois debtors are permitted to protect up to $15,000 of equity in their primary residence. Married couples filing jointly can double the exemption to $30,000. Be aware that homestead exemptions only serve to protect the home where you live, investment property does not qualify. In addition to the homestead exemption, debtors filing bankruptcy in Illinois can protect up to $2,400 of equity in a car. For a complete updated list of the Illinois state bankruptcy exemptions, take a look at www.legalconsumer.com .

Will I Qualify for Bankruptcy in Illinois?

Much has been written about the bankruptcy reforms of 2005. Suffice to say that most bankruptcy lawyers think the legislation, known as the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) is awful. One of their main complaints is the bankruptcy means test. The means test was put in place to make it more difficult for consumers to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If your income is above the median for a household of similar size in your state, you must compare your expenses against the means test. If your disposable income is too high, there is a presumption that you must be in a Chapter 13 plan, where something is paid back to your unsecured creditors, rather than a chapter 7 where nothing is paid back. In Illinois, the average income for a single household is $46,983. If your income, measured over the last six months, is lower than $46,983, you re presumptively entitled to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If your income is higher, you ll need to work through the means test with an attorney to see whether you qualify. For a complete list of current income figures for households of all sizes, visit this site .

How Much Will It Cost to File Bankruptcy in Illinois?

Just as every bankruptcy case is a little different, the cost of bankruptcy in each jurisdiction is different. Obviously, filing a Chapter 7 case in Chicago will be more expensive than filing in a more rural area of southern Illinois. As a general rule, Chapter 7 bankruptcy costs approximately $1,500. Regardless of jurisdiction, the bankruptcy court charges a $306 filing fee. Add to that the cost of a lawyer which can range from $1,000 to $2,000. If you end up filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, the costs are set by the court and are therefore more standardized. $3,000 is the national average to file chapter 13, plus a filing fee of $274. If you re concerned about being able to afford bankruptcy, don t be. Most bankruptcy law firms will work with their clients to establish a payment schedule they can afford.

Where Are The Bankruptcy Courts Located in Illinois?

There are three federal districts in Illinois, the northern, southern and central districts. Within each federal district are divisional courthouses. To better serve local communities, there is typically a bankruptcy court in each federal divisional courthouse. The division you file your case in will determine where your 341 meeting of creditors will be held. We ve listed the locations of the Illinois bankruptcy courts below:

Northern District of Illinois

Locations: Chicago, Joilet North, Aurora, Rockford, Waukegan, Wheaton. The official website for the Northern District of Illinois Bankruptcy Court can be viewed here.

Central District of Illinois

Locations: Bloomington, Dansville Decatur, Galesburg, Kankakee Paris, Peoria Quincy, Rock Island, Springfield. The official website for the Central District of Illinois Bankruptcy Court can be viewed here .

Southern District of Illinois

BlackBerry buys Good, exposing MDM weakness

In a shocker this morning, struggling BlackBerry bought the oldest surviving mobile device management (MDM) company, Good Technology, for $425 million. The move will help BlackBerry obtain sorely needed revenues (about $160 million per year, BlackBerry says).

But it also indicates that BlackBerry’s crown jewel, BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 12, has been flopping in the market. Moreover, the acquisition highlights that the mobile market isn’t so big, given that Good is is the granddaddy of MDM, established in 1996, and remains one of the top three providers along with MobileIron and VMware’s AirWatch.

BlackBerry has been trying for several years to regain relevance. Its BlackBerry 10 smartphones have been rejected by users and IT alike, though they are technically superior to the previous BlackBerry 7 devices .

Seeing the writing on the wall, BlackBerry released BES10. a reinvention its BlackBerry management server to manage non-BlackBerry devices such as those running iOS, Android, and Windows. Last year’s BES12 made the product better.

BlackBerry also opened up its BES APIs to third-party management tools. so they could manage BlackBerry devices, in hopes that BlackBerry device sales might increase as a result of wider support. It agreed to work with Samsung on the Knox technology for secure Android containers. It’s also bought many small mobile security firms, including WatchDox, SecuSmart, and Movirtu.

But BES was the crown jewel of the BlackBerry strategy, meant to be the hub of a suite of cross-platform management and security capabilities that would form the core of BlackBerry’s revenues. By buying Good, BlackBerry has admitted that BES hasn’t taken hold in the market. That certainly coincides with what I hear form analysts and IT managers. Thus, the move makes sense, even if it is out of desperation.

More surprising is that Good was for sale. It’s the original MDM provider and has deep connections to government agencies and large enterprises, especially those in sensitive industries such as defense — a natural fit for BlackBerry’s historic strengths. It used to be that companies had BES for BlackBerrys and Good for anything else, though not so much today.

The low price BlackBerry paid for Good suggests that having those large customers didn’t translate into large revenues, an issue that has implications for the entire mobile management market, not only Good. Not long ago, Good was making moves to expand beyond its technology core, such as its own deal with Samsung over Knox .

A couple years ago, there were about 100 mobile management providers. Many have faded and some have been acquired, with fewer than 10 left that matter: Good, IBM, Microsoft, MobileIron, and VMware for sure — plus maybe Boxtone, CA, Citrix, and Soti.

As desktop management and mobile management merge. that list narrows quickly to Microsoft, MobileIron, and VMware, with BlackBerry, CA, and IBM trying to join their ranks.

Buying Good is a good (ahem) move for BlackBerry. But mobile management remains a treacherous market and BlackBerry will need to do much more to succeed.

Sharepoint Tips And Tricks: Allowing InfoPath forms to redirect to pages in other site collections #sharepoint #intranet #best #practices

#

Allowing InfoPath forms to redirect to pages in other site collections

In InfoPath 2007, when you publish a form as a web form, you have the option to specify several query string parameters. One of those parameters is the “Source” parameter, which is “The location to which the user will be redirected when the form is closed. The URL must be in the same site collection or an error will be returned .”
The error mentioned is “The following location is not accessible, because it is in a different site collection:” and the url you specified.

So it seems that specifying a source from another site collection is impossible. But what if I have a site collection dedicated to forms? lets say “http://forms”, to which I link from the intranet home page or another page, and I want that when the user closes the form, he will be redirected back to the page in the intranet (lets say “http://intranet”) that we started from?

I had to come up with a solution, and a simple one jumped to mind – a redirect page!
The trick is simple. Instead of specifying a link to “http://intranet” as the source parameter (which will cause an error), specify a link to a special page in the layouts folder, and give that page the query string that links to the page you want to return to.

Confused? here is an example:
Instead of linking to the form with this link:

Link to it like this:

http://forms/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=http://forms/myforms/Forms/template.xsn ?>

Donating a Car to Charity

Donating a car is a way to support a charitable organization while still reaping an economic benefit through a tax deduction. All donors should be aware that tax deductions for used automobiles, boats or airplanes are available only to those individuals who donate to a qualified charity and who itemize deductions on their tax returns. Following are some tips to consider when deciding whether to donate your car to charity.

Do make sure that you are donating to an eligible organization. Tax deductions are available for donations made to 501(c)(3) organizations, public charities which the Internal Revenue Service has determined to be tax-exempt. To verify an organization s qualified status, contact the Public Charities Division at (617) 727-2200, ext. 2101; the IRS Tax Exempt/Government Entities Customer Service at 1-877-829-5500; or look for IRS Publication 78 in your local library s reference section or on the IRS website. Churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, and governments are not required to register with the Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division or to apply to the IRS for tax-exempt determination. They may not be listed in Publication 78, but donations to these institutions are tax deductible.

Do ask the charity plenty of questions. Find out what the organization s mission is and how your donation will help it. Ask if your donation can go to a particular program or service that interests you or whether it must go only into the charity s general fund. Do not donate to an organization that avoids talking about its charitable purpose or refuses to send you information.

Do ask what the charity will do with your car. Some charities refurbish cars and give them to people in need. Some technical schools use cars in their auto shop programs. Other organizations simply resell the car or sell its parts and use the proceeds for their charitable purposes.

Do ask if the charity handles all aspects of your donation. Many charities contract with for-profit companies to handle all the details of motor vehicle donations. If this is the case, ask how the money from your car donation is split between your charity and the for-profit company.

Deduct only the amount allowed by law. Section 884 of the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 added sections 170(f)(12) and 6720 to the Internal Revenue Code and changed the rules for donations of motor vehicles, boats, and airplanes beginning in 2005. There are different rules concerning deductions, depending on the value of the car and on whether the charity will keep and use the car or whether it will sell the car (or its parts). The IRS has published A Donor s Guide to Vehicle Donations (Publication 4303), which details the new rules. You can obtain Publication 4303 from the IRS at your local IRS office, or by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676), or from the IRS website .

Do have your motor vehicle appraised by a qualified professional appraiser if it is worth more than $5,000.

Do make sure you have the title to your vehicle. A charity should not accept your donation without a title. To obtain a duplicate title, visit your local Registry of Motor Vehicles branch or visit the Registry s website .

Do take responsibility for transferring the title at the time of the donation. An assignment of title should be made only to the charity or an authorized private, for-profit agent of the charity. The for-profit agent of the charity should be subject to the charity s oversight in order for the agency to be valid for tax-deductibility purposes. The IRS has published A Charity s Guide to Vehicle Donations (Publication 4302), which details the required terms of the agency relationship. You can obtain Publication 4302 from the IRS at your local IRS office, or by calling 1-800-TAX-FORM (1-800-829-3676), or from IRS website .

On the back side of your title, you should assign the title to the charity or an authorized agent of the charity, enter the correct mileage from the odometer, and sign and date the form. Be sure to make and keep a copy of both sides of your title.

Do maintain a personal record of your donation. Items that should be included in your record include:

  • The written contemporaneous acknowledgment from the charity;
  • The name and address of the organization to which you contributed;
  • The date and place where your vehicle was picked up;
  • A reasonably detailed description of the donated car or a photograph of the car;
  • The fair market value of the car at the time of the contribution and how that value was calculated;
  • A signed copy of the appraisal, if the motor vehicle was appraised;
  • Any terms or conditions attached to the car donation;
  • How you obtained the car (by purchase, gift, inheritance, etc.) and the date; and
  • A copy of your title, registration, and any receipts you are given by the tow company or the charity.

Do contact the Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division of the Attorney General s Office at (617) 727-2200, ext. 2101, if you think that an organization is illegally posing as a charity or using deceptive advertising to solicit donations.

2015 Honda Civic

Over the past month, we helped 97,584 new car buyers find their perfect car!

New/Notable:

  • Sold in coupe or sedan body styles
  • Best-selling compact car in America
  • Carryover with no updates for 2015

The 2015 Honda Civic is the latest version of the popular compact car and carries over unchanged for the 2015 model year.

The last few years have been very busy for the Civic. It got a complete redesign in 2012, a refresh for sedan models in 2013, and a refresh for the coupe and Si in 2014, so Honda s engineers get to take a breath for 2015.

Exterior styling varies by body style, with the sedan offering a more sedate look while the coupe is much more menacing, with sharper lines and a more aggressive front end. The coupe also has a pair of very prominent fog light recesses flanking the lower air intake which give the Civic coupe a distinct look up front. There are no less than six wheel choices, and fog lights and a power moonroof are optional. Sporty Si models get their own visual signatures, with side sills and Si badging, along with unique wheels.

Coupe and Sedan models share a 143-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Last year, the Civic got a new CVT transmission with paddle shifters that replaced the five-speed automatic. It joins a five-speed manual among the transmission options, while the Si gets a six-speed manual. The Civic puts a premium on fuel economy; sedan models return 30/39 mpg city/highway with the CVT (28/36 with the manual), with the coupe achieving similar figures (29/38 on higher trim levels). Under the hood of Si models is a 205-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder.

Since the updates in 2013 and 2014, the Civic cabin has been a personal favorite thanks to its liberal use of high quality materials, backseat room, and comfortable seating. It s a compact car that feels larger and more upscale than its compact price would suggest. Similar to the sporty CR-Z, the center console is slightly canted towards the driver offering easier access to controls for the climate and audio systems. Standard features include a color i-MID display, Bluetooth connectivity, Pandora internet radio, SMS support, and a USB/iPod port, all of which make the Civic one of the most tech friendly out of the box cars around. A navigation system, leather upholstery, and heated front seats are optional.

The 2015 Civic also offers a class-exclusive standard rearview camera, along with antilock brakes, six airbags, and an electronic stability system with traction control. For its performance in crash testing, the Civic got a full five-star overall rating from the NHTSA, their highest designation.
